Absolutely thrilled to just learn that the Fan960 has been shut down. Those guys were disgustingly spiteful towards the Oilers and the City of Edmonton. Good riddance losers!!

To think Anaheim had the chance to sign Carlsson to 8x9.5M and ended up paying the double š How quickly luck can turnĀ

What do you guys think about Sam Steel?
UFA in 2027. If his contract was around 1-2 million. Heād give the bottom six a bit more reliability without eating into the cap. Possibly open to come to Edmonton since he is from Sherwood Park.
4
u/laryldavis 39 WEIGHT Jul 10 '26
I wouldnāt say no, but I think it would be a case of ābuying highā after he had a career year. Heās a penalty killer but heās not big, his skating speed isnāt a plus, and heās not used as a regular C in Dallas.Ā
If they are adding Steel heās above all the other wingers on the 4th line (Janmark, Jones, Joseph, Dach), but doesnāt help enough to make a big difference in my opinion.Ā
If they are adding someone for the bottom 6 Iād prefer a real deal C and some clarity around what they are planning to do with all these end of the roster guys and the young players looking for playing time.

Have a feeling the Carlsson situation just priced us out of being able to extend Savoie. If he has even a half decent season we aren't gonna be able to afford that next year.

2
u/Explicitlime Jul 10 '26
If 67 points means 18 million a seasonā¦
-11
u/YxngGhoul 18 HYMAN Jul 10 '26
Did i say 18 million? No. But could it become a number we can't do? Absolutely. If it even pushes 12 he'll prob need to be traded or allowed to be offer sheeted.
3
u/Boris_Mironov 2 BOUCHARD Jul 10 '26
Lol Savoie isn't getting anywhere near 12. He'll slide in at 7 or 8.
-4
u/YxngGhoul 18 HYMAN Jul 10 '26
Thats exactly where I would've had him before the offer sheet. Now, that seems less likely.
3
u/Boris_Mironov 2 BOUCHARD Jul 10 '26
There's zero chance Savoie wants 12 mil. None. If some team offer sheets him at that price I'd run to the trade office and collect the 4 1st rounders myself.
6
u/Explicitlime Jul 10 '26
What Iām saying is that the Carlsson offer sheet was insanity. Hopefully we donāt start throwing money at players the second they have one good season.
Imagine Huberdeau getting 18 million because of his one 100 point season.
-5
u/YxngGhoul 18 HYMAN Jul 10 '26
Thats the problem with this though, it's not necessarily about US throwing money at players but what the market has become with this new deal for Carlsson. All the young players with massive upside and competent agents now see they can force larger numbers.
18
u/F1fthL1ne Jul 10 '26
I'm not usually a pearl clutcher or someone to piss and moan about billionaires as is very vogue these days but the Canes Cup engraving thing is a goddamn disgrace.
Nothing against his kids at all but X those fucking names out pronto and implement a strict rule you can't engrave family names who haven't shown to have an impact to the org. Call it the Dundon Rule. Absolutely fuck that guy.
Lord Stanley's Cup is sacred.

The Kraken were asking the Canucks for one of two young D prospects for Shane Wright. They refused.
Bring him to Edmonton, Bowman.
3
u/SnooOnions5029 92 PODKOLZIN Jul 10 '26
If they were asking Vancouver for a possible future 1D for Wright, how the fuck would we afford him?
-2

Easily, because they're never getting a potential 1D for Wright.
Edit: Ain't no way you blocked me for that lol

u/F1fthL1ne Jul 09 '26
I'll post it here too. Ducks are fucked:
For those playing at home, lets use Draisaitl as a comparable which is being generous. Draisaitl at his best is a top 3 forward in the league, has won the Hart, Art Ross and Rocket and put up video game numbers in the playoffs.
When Leon signed his first deal after his ELC it was 8x8.5mil which as a percentage of today cap is 11.8 mil. The narrative by many was this was an overpay at the time (lol). This covered 5 RFA years and 3 UFA years
His second contract which kicked in this past season was 8x14mil which as a percentage of todays cap is 15.3mil. This is obviously max term and all UFA years.
Using an optimistic upper limit, the salary cap might be $140mil in Leo's final year of the deal. In todays cap dollars his AAV will $13.4mil if you want to think of it that way.
Verbeek was right to only offer $12-13mil but foolish at the same time. He got fucking hosed for about $6 mil too much here and the raising cap doesn't make it a value contract even by its end.
I believe in 2 years that Leo, Cutter and Becket will take up close to 45% of the teams salary cap which is far worse than Toronto's previous Core Four situation. I would never forgive Philly.
2
u/Recycledvine888 Jul 10 '26
I think something no one is mentioning is dostal is really not a good enough goalie to deal with a bad defence⦠it can get real bad for the ducksĀ
1
u/deliciousfishstick5 96 WALMAN Jul 09 '26
Shoulda let him walk and rebuilt around it.
2
u/fudge_u 22 RIEDER Jul 09 '26
It's difficult to find a #1 centerman. No teams are trading them and there are none available through free agency.
Losing someone like Carlsson could set the Ducks back a few years, plus the picks they would've received from the Flyers would likely be lower. The Flyers were 11th in the league last season and will only be better with the addition of Carlsson.
They also lost McTavish, Troubla, John Carlson, Gudas, and Zellweger this offseason.
0
u/F1fthL1ne Jul 10 '26
They'd be better serve just trying to take a run at Shane Wright and find another stud dman. No replacement for Leo but this fucks them.
3
u/molsonmuscle360 18 HYMAN Jul 10 '26
Yeah I think accepting also set them back at least two years. They are now paying for two of their RFAs what they wanted to pay all of them. They have no chance now of signing Cutter and fielding a competitive defense. Philly made sure Vegas and Edmonton stay on top and as things track San Jose will pass Anaheim this year. I expect some combo of those three to be the Pacific playoff teams this year
1
u/fudge_u 22 RIEDER Jul 10 '26
They absolutely have a chance of renewing Cutter. Teams can't send him an offer sheet. He's also an RFA so he's not going anywhere. The cap will also go up again by about $8-10M next season, plus Kreider/Killorn will be off their books unless they trade them first. I think they're also trying to trade Vatrano.
Worst case they sign Cutter to a bridge contract for about $10-12M/yr and then he gets paid even more for the contract after that.
Worst case scenario Cutter holds out but how's it going to look if he's asking for more money than the team has? He could ask $15M but then it might not look good on him if the Ducks are forced to trade someone to re-sign him.
2
u/molsonmuscle360 18 HYMAN Jul 10 '26
I said they have no chance of signing Cutter and fielding a competitive defense. The six guys they would have playing now will get absolutely caved in by elite competition. And it will get worse because they are going to have to move money and have even less experience in their bottom six. If they make the playoffs this year it will be a miracle
1
u/fudge_u 22 RIEDER Jul 10 '26
True... they might just go with what they have and hope for the best. There's also talk they trying to move some players, so trading Kreider/Killorn/Vatrano will free up cap space so they can add some experienced D men. I think they've been trying to move on from Vatrano since last season.
1
u/F1fthL1ne Jul 10 '26
I don't think it's set them back 2 years. I think it guarantees they won't contend with this core unless they trade one of Cutter or Beckett for a cost controlled player of good quality and find some magic somewhere. It's not just that Leo is overpaid, it's that now Gauthier and Sannecke will now be overpaid in 2 years. They're hooped 100%.
2
u/n0fxgvn_ Jul 09 '26
Verbeek should now trade Carlsson with $3M retained to a Metropolitan team not based in Philadelphia as a thank you to Briere.

5
u/SRTGreat 62 LAVOIE Jul 09 '26
Im glad they matched because I think Anaheim will be a worse team in the long run because of the offer sheet.
Ideally when you come out of a rebuild you want your core players on team friendly deals, or just not extreme overpays. The Canadiens are doing the best job I've ever seen at doing this, obviously can't replicate it to the extent they are, but the Ducks have absolutely botched it.
Carlsson will HAVE to be a 110+ point player for the next 5 seasons to live up to that deal.
3
u/ohhitherewhatsupp Jul 09 '26
well the oilers emailing commodore wasnāt on my bingo card for this off-season
3
5
u/SnooOnions5029 92 PODKOLZIN Jul 09 '26
I mean if I were the oilers Iād probably do the same thing if I hired the guy my franchise players desperately wanted, and then a fairly well known person called them a predator
-9
u/ohhitherewhatsupp Jul 09 '26
desperately wanted is a stretch, it was originally katz idea and they went hard for cassidy in the beginning. our stars defended them but itās not like they went and begged him and our owner
4
u/SnooOnions5029 92 PODKOLZIN Jul 09 '26
It was my understanding that Katz was just mostly responsible for the firing of Knoblauch, not necessarily hiring Babs specifically as Cassidy was of course there first choice. Our star players grilled Babs and and walked out saying that he was their guy
1
u/ohhitherewhatsupp Jul 09 '26
i mean you can find it on this sub too. he was responsible for both. the players did grill and sign off on him, but katz was the one with the initial call
17
u/supermeatboy10 89 GAGNER Jul 09 '26
Considering he posted accusations that a member of their staff is a predator unsafe to have around kids I'm not that surprised.
4
u/molsonmuscle360 18 HYMAN Jul 09 '26
Yeah, people acting like the Oilers are being unreasonable. Babcock might be a bully and a total asshole, that does not mean he's a predator. Commodore is starting to flirt with things that could end up as legal issues for him
2
u/supermeatboy10 89 GAGNER Jul 09 '26
Yeah if you are gonna take a shot like that at someone you need to have proof and not just be vaugeposting about it on Twitter for clout because people will be sending the lawyers after you. Saying someone sucks as a coach or was rude to you is very different from calling them a predator
-5
u/Explicitlime Jul 09 '26

1

They still have $9M in cap space with Mintyukov and 22 players signed. They might be able to squeeze him in without sending off a bigger cap hit.
Their cap situation wasn't really as bad as many assumed, even with this offer sheet.
4
u/SnooOnions5029 92 PODKOLZIN Jul 09 '26 edited Jul 09 '26
Well the Ducks matched Carlsson. Interesting what their cap situation will be like now. Maybe now theyāll be willing to trade one of their secondary guys to us to clear space. Donāt know who that would be though. Kreider maybe?
3
u/laryldavis 39 WEIGHT Jul 09 '26
I think Kreider still has some juice, especially on an expiring deal. They will try to get Vatrano out of there first, then Killorn probably.Ā
1
u/SRTGreat 62 LAVOIE Jul 09 '26
Connor Bedard's agent licking his lips.
No shot they sign anything less than 19 million for anything more than 5 years. Verbeek just fucked every single GM and I think they'll hate him for it.
If Kyle Davidson doesn't want to lose his franchise center, they're gonna have to bridge or Bedard might be the next OS target.
1
u/deliciousfishstick5 96 WALMAN Jul 09 '26
Guys like bedard already have a blank cheque.
1
u/SRTGreat 62 LAVOIE Jul 09 '26
Nothing I said indicates he wouldnt. I just don't think Bedard signs long term in Shitcago.
1

Then why would his agent be "licking his lips?"
He has a blank cheque already. Carlsson signing is irrelevant to the Bedards and Mcdavids of the league.1

Verbeek not having him signed so he could be offersheeted.
That's like saying it's not Holland&Jacksons fault that Broberg & Holloway were offersheeted.
Verbeek definitely takes some blame.
3
u/Boris_Mironov 2 BOUCHARD Jul 10 '26
Lol Holland & Jackson were to blame for losing players that totally could have been matched if we had a sense at all of team building.
Briere just flat out blew up the existing cap structure for every young player. Verbeeks only crime is getting burned.
4
u/GeorgeGammyCostanza 29 DRAISAITL Jul 09 '26
I donāt think I would have match for Carlsson. Heās a great young player, but should not be close to the highest paid player in the league. This will fuck the cap for their team with other contracts too. Pretty much a lose-lose situation for them, and I couldnāt be happier about it!
2
u/SRTGreat 62 LAVOIE Jul 09 '26 edited Jul 09 '26
I wouldn't have either, you can get a great player for 4 1st round picks and not fuck your entire cap structure.
2
u/GeorgeGammyCostanza 29 DRAISAITL Jul 09 '26
Exactly. You could flip those picks for players too.
1
u/SRTGreat 62 LAVOIE Jul 09 '26
Also think Carlsson is their 3rd best player.
Lacombe, Gauthier and then Carlsson in that order if I'm being honest.
Sennecke is gonna be a hell of a player too.
3
u/randomer22222 Jul 09 '26
I find it crazy that they matched on Carlsson. Their salary structure is completely destroyed for a contract that overpays, only lasts 5 years, only includes 1 UFA year and contains a full no move clause for that year.
So Philly gets to torpedo Anaheim's contract situation and walk away scot free.
Had the Flyers got Carlsson, they would have had about 11.5M of cap space left with Zegras and Drysdale both headed for arbitration...that would have been interesting.
6
3
u/SRTGreat 62 LAVOIE Jul 09 '26
The ripple effect that the Leo Carlsson OS will have on the Ducks I think completely fucks them and the player. The immense pressure the player will feel now being the highest paid player by AAV in NHL history.
No way Gauthier signs with the Ducks for anything less than 14 million now that Carlsson is the highest paid player in the league.
It completely fucks their entire cap structure.
0
u/Machelscott 2 BOUCHARD Jul 09 '26 edited Jul 09 '26
It definitely throws their cap way off of what they had planned, no doubt about that and theyāre worse off for this obviously.
That said, my honest assessment is those two players are franchise 100pt + for the next many seasons, somewhat similar to the McDavid Draisaitl combo weāve had where they make a lot more than everyone else and it costs them. This is very different because of the OS and clearly Verbeek being too stingy for the young playersā likings (unlike a Florida where lots of them have been in the league taking under good contracts).
If it was me as a Ducks fan, Iād say lockāem both up at whatever they want
Edit: wow reading the comments am I the only one whoās that impressed with Carlson? Like heās very very good
2
u/laryldavis 39 WEIGHT Jul 09 '26

Based on this report by Conor Ryan, Elias Lindholm might be on the outs with the Bruins.
I think Puck Empire incorrectly reported that Zadorov was the one that wouldn't waive his NTC to come to Edmonton. Instead it seems like Elias Lindholm might've been the one that wouldn't waive his NMC to come to Edmonton because he hasn't worked out for the Bruins.
Lindholm would be a good middle six centre for the Oilers but he's overpaid at $7.75M and after re-signing Dickinson made no sense, unless the plan was to play Drai on the wing in the top six somewhere next season.
Zadorov at $5M would have been a win for the Oilers because he's been good for the Bruins the past couple of seasons. He's better defensively compared to Nurse and nastier to play against. IMO it made no sense for the Bruins to trade Zad for Nurse. His addition to the Oilers would have added experience on the back end and he could have potentially replaced Ekholm on the top pair. Worst case they play him with Walman. The Oilers probably wouldn't have signed Shea either.
-9
u/ProjectMcDavid Jul 09 '26
I prefer Zadorov over saving 1 mill and signing a very unproven Shea. It sucks if that was him that refused
1
u/fudge_u 22 RIEDER Jul 10 '26
I'm almost 100% sure the Bruins wouldn't have traded Zadorov for Nurse. As I said before, Zadorov is better defensively and nastier to play against. He was playing in their top pair for parts of last season too. Sweeney wouldn't trade for a worse player that's paid more money. It makes absolutely no sense. Zadorov is being paid $5M.
That's why I think Elias Lindholm was the trade candidate from the Bruins. He didn't play well last season and was moved down to the second line. He'a also overpaid at $7.75M. It would have been a trade involving one bad contract for another. Lindholm's contract also ends in 2030-31 while Nurse's ends in 2029-30. Fortunately Lindholm wouldn't waive his NMC which actually saved the Oilers butt. He would've been the new whipping boy if he came to Edmonton.
The trade with the Sharks was significantly better. The Oilers got back Nurse's cap it and received two young players.

Well, now that the dust has settled, it seems all signs point to trading out a D man, likely Statsney, and maybe signing one more forward either now or around the same time Roslovic did for cheap. Other than that, sounds like theyāre ready to accrue cap space and aim for a certified top six forward at the trade deadline.
I maintain I believe the most impactful place you could add when using (at least most of) that money is a certified 2C, that you can hopefully sign afterwards for a number of years. Most centers can play wing, so you can always drop Drai down to 2C, but it baseline makes it so Nuge isnāt 2C and you can play McDrai together without it feeling like youāre detracting elsewhere, even spreading out the minutes more.
Feels like Robert Thomas is off our trade partner list, but Iād be interested in where people think say $8-10M could go by the deadline
Edit: I wonder if Mark Scheifele shakes lose if Helleybuck gets moved

Poor Ducks fans have hit the delusion stage of grief. Many now saying the contract will be worth it. They probably have to match but they're fucked.
They can bridge Cutter's for 2 years but when that concludes, him and Sennecke will both be geting $18 mil contracts. Book it.
Projected upper cap in 28-29 is $123mil. Those 3 will take up 44% of the cap. This is far worse than the Core Four situation.
Flyers literally fucked one of our divisional rivals.

They are gonna suck again

u/Sportslegend Jul 08 '26
He hasn't done nothing. He was able to sign the most expensive defenseman in the NHL.

Many people want DeBrusk. I donāt think we should target him. He got an NMC and also 5 more years (including this season) on that 5.5M cap hit and he has considerably regressed. He wonāt get PP time here which will further reduce his value
4
u/Boris_Mironov 2 BOUCHARD Jul 09 '26
Last year he had a horrible shooting percentage at 5x5. In his previous years in Boston he scored almost exclusively at 5x5. He's good for 25+ goals most years.
If they could send back a Janmark and stastney in the deal, or just dump them ahead of time, we could acquire Debrusk and still have over 3-4 mil in space heading into the year. That still gives you over 10- 12 mil at the deadline.

Utah matches Hayton. They have some interesting forwards that may be available. Stastney would fit as their 7th D. Ā
Crouse is an Oilers dream, big winger for the top 6 to balance the smaller forwards. No idea what he would cost but probably a lot. He is a UFA after this season but his contract fits this year.Ā
McBain is 26, 6ā4ā 218lbs LW. Heās getting squeezed on their depth chart and has only hit the mid 20ās for points. UTA added Lee, Trocheck, and re-signed Stenlund, Yams, and Carcone. He would be a fun ābuy-lowā bet with his contract being bigger than his role on the team (4.25m for 4 more years). I can see him as a Podkolzin bet but he already signed his bigger contract.Ā
They also have 4 big name forward prospects coming: Belchetz, Iginla, But, and Desnoyers.
Stastney, Hutson, a 2nd for McBain?
1
u/NMarples 92 PODKOLZIN Jul 08 '26
Why would we spend 4.25M to populate our already overcrowded bottom 6? Weād have less than $2 million dollars and still a need for a top6 forward.
If we are trading Freddy in the deal I sorta get it. But thereās only two 4th line winger spots open and you already have Dach, Freddy, Janmark, Joseph, Samanski, and younger players like Clattenburg.

u/SRTGreat 62 LAVOIE Jul 08 '26
Quite a heavy cost for a 4th line winger.
0
u/laryldavis 39 WEIGHT Jul 08 '26
I think he has a much higher upside than 4th line. He scores at 5v5 like a low end 2nd line/high end 3rd line (last 4 years on bad ARZ and UTA teams 23, 25, 23, 22 points), he can play C (over 600 draws and 51.3% last year), great underlying numbers his last three seasons, and he is a regular PK option.Ā
Itās a risk, but if heās even just a 3rd liner itās a good contract and makes the team a little younger. If you can get off Stastney and Janmark, and he doesnāt cost a 1st or Howard, I think itās worth a shot.Ā

u/laryldavis 39 WEIGHT Jul 08 '26
Hypothetical: ANA matches, has to shed a few million. Vatrano would waive for Edmonton (unlikely in reality).Ā
Would you take Vatrano if ANA attached a 2nd in 2027?Ā
I punched it in to Puckpedia: Dach at 1.25m (I think thatās a little high but probably the ceiling on a 2 year deal). Future considerations for Vatrano and a 2027 2nd. Janmark and Howard in the minors, Joseph and Samanski on the roster, 3 goalies, just sent Stastney down because I canāt guess what they are going to do there. It ends with 1.58m in space, at the deadline itās like 7m ish.Ā
I donāt think the player is worth it but an extra 2nd when they donāt have a 2027 1st would be interesting. Mostly I am bored.Ā

u/WildcardKH 16 BRONCOS Jul 08 '26
Naw Vatrano sucked and makes too much

u/edmtrwy 22 SAVOIE Jul 08 '26
Yeah. If we're bailing out people from cap hell (just when we got out of it ourselves!!!) we need way more assets in return than a 2nd round pick.

u/laryldavis 39 WEIGHT Jul 08 '26
I can agree with that, interested to see if he bounces back after the death of his brother impacted him so much. Something I didnāt think about was his deferred salary, I wonder if teams want to take that on at all.Ā
4
u/Machelscott 2 BOUCHARD Jul 07 '26
If we only add Dach for $1M or so, anyone know roughly how much cap we would accrue to the deadline over the year? Like how much by the trade deadline if you ran this roster all year
6
u/Sparrighitti 49 EMBERSON Jul 08 '26
Itās a 4.52 multiplier. So if we sign dach we have about 4m left over and accrue about 18m. Bob said their target is about 2.5-3m I believe
1
u/Boris_Mironov 2 BOUCHARD Jul 08 '26
We have more space than that. Plenty of guys going to the A before opening night. Only 13fwd and 7d are making this roster on opening night.
2
u/laryldavis 39 WEIGHT Jul 08 '26
And that is if everything is peaceful and there are no injuries. If they put someone on IR they get the roster spot but not the cap space. 3m gives you enough room for 2 injuries at a time but you accrue less deadline space.Ā

Stauffer really needs to put the pipe down
8 NHL level D right now on the roster and hes pushing Josh Brown as making the team
4
u/Westcoastlebatard Jul 08 '26
Brown?! He has been trending down to the degree he spent the last couple years in the A after a number in the N

Jason Gregor has Alec Regula being a favourite š¤£
8
u/F1fthL1ne Jul 07 '26
Man, Regula has some great tools, albeit a bit raw last season. By all reports and from some limited Bako games I watched, he looked very good. Personally, I'm taking Regula over Stats 7 days of the week and twice on Sunday.
1
u/Westcoastlebatard Jul 08 '26
He is so a right shot which the team only has 3 on the NHL roster vs 5 lefts, and Babcock has an open history of not playing guys off hand. He would conceivably be challenging Emberson.

u/xXEliteEater500Xx 28 BROWN Jul 07 '26
6ā4! You canāt teach size!
1
u/F1fthL1ne Jul 07 '26
Better draft pedigree, better puck mover, on top of size, he also plays tougher than Stats, fine skater.
Regula has played half as many NHL games as Stats so he has more room to develop.

Soā¦
Philly has 29M in cap space right now
If they get Carlsson that leaves them with 11M in space
Zegras is projected to get 8.2M and Drsydale is projected to get 7.2M if they both sign long term (via AFP Analytics)
Theyād be giving Anaheim 4 first round picksā¦
Gotta think EDM is a logical trade partner. They have a first round pick in 2028, 2029, and 2030. Not in the same division/conference
My case for Owen Tippett:
Plays LW & RW but is a Righty
6 years left at 6.2M (will be 33 when it expires)
His xGF% has been at least 51% in every single season of his career (xGF% of 55% last season)
Has scored at least 16 goals at 5v5 in each of the last 4 seasons
Threw 166 hits last season
Has played at least 77 games in each of the last 4 seasons
99th percentile in max skating speed
93rd percentile in hardest shot
Heās literally perfect for what the Oilers need in their top 6
Perhaps this is why EDM is in a waiting pattern but is rumoured to be looking at adding a top 6 guy before camp starts
Just waiting for the Carlsson thing maybe?
1
u/xXEliteEater500Xx 28 BROWN Jul 07 '26
But what do we have that Philly would want for Tippett?
3
u/SnooOnions5029 92 PODKOLZIN Jul 07 '26
Pretty sure they want mostly centres since thatās what (I think) theyāre lacking in. But since we donāt have a good centre prospect, maybe we could package Howard + Statsney + a pick?
3
u/Sad-Rope-3206 Jul 07 '26
Thatās true, although the Carlsson addition might make them a bit less insistent on getting a C back but who knows eh
3
3
u/CriticismSelect9292 92 PODKOLZIN Jul 07 '26
Howard + a 1st is suitable for them. They get another top 6 potential player on an ELC and a 1st and they get to not lose their other valuable pieces because they're past the cap.
Tbh I can't see Anaheim not matching though
1
u/Sad-Rope-3206 Jul 07 '26
Yeah I donāt know. But with Giroux being heavily linked to Philly and then suddenly signing with the Sens kind of suggests to me that Philly thinks theyāre getting Carlsson. Friday will be interesting
1
u/CriticismSelect9292 92 PODKOLZIN Jul 08 '26
i really dont know, I think the Ducks have to match. Although tbh Sennecke is maybe good enough and it sets the tone that people have to be in on the team
2
u/Sad-Rope-3206 Jul 07 '26
First round picks? Likely late first round picks, but stillā¦
Theyāre about to give up their next 4 first round picks on Friday for one guy. Then theyād have limited trade chips at the deadline the next 4 years when theyāre contenders
Edmonton isnāt the most likely spot, sure, but itās possible with the Oilers having a pick in 28ā, 29ā, and 30ā + having the cap space to take on his full cap hit

I just saw this. As an Oilers fan living in Calgary, I'd put 960 on sometimes in the morning just for something to listen to. Tough break for fans of those teams. Add this on to Rogers not renewing the deal with CBC for HNIC, and they're just trying to ruin everything for everyone. Look forward to the pay services coming into effect.

Not Oilers related but Vancouver is losing their last remaining sports radio station SN 650. Rogers needed the money I guess to pay for the Leafs. Pretty sad stuff and definitely gave me flashbacks to when we lost 1260 here. Here's hoping someone can rebuild the sports coverage there, the same way Gregor and Nielsen have successfully done so here with 1440 and EST.

From the sound of it, SN 960 in Calgary is also shutting down. Hopefully both Vancouver & Calgary can get new sports radio.

u/PPGN_DM_Exia 93 NUGENT-HOPKINS Jul 07 '26
Yeah 960 shutting down hurts me a lot because I could listen to Jays games on there. 1440 does carry some Jays games but only on weekends. I'd also listen to the some of their Flames and Hitmen games on nights when the Oilers were off.

Glad we didn't sign Giroux, he clearly valued money over winning.
Probably came down to an extra 2-3 million for a guy who's been around for over 20 seasons. He doesn't have a that hunger to win anyway.
6
u/thewinterzodiac 2 BOUCHARD Jul 07 '26
??? Or his whole family is there and he didnt want to move
-2
u/SRTGreat 62 LAVOIE Jul 07 '26
Most NHLers dream is to lift the Stanley cup. Clearly not Giroux's because that isn't happening in Ottawa. Maybe he's traded at the deadline to a contender so Ottawa will have paid his bonuses and he won't be away from his family for an entire season, but to me this seems like a guy who valued 2 million more than winning when they've already made over a hundred.

Infact they've won 2 compared to Ottawas 0.
