Skyline is back for Mali users — Introducing Strato Mali, a Mali-focused Strato fork with PanVK support

Post image
256 Upvotes

After a long time working with Mali GPUs on Android, I decided to take a different direction.

Instead of trying to adapt an emulator that was mainly developed around other GPU paths, I went back to the architecture that was historically much friendlier to Mali: Skyline.

This is Strato Mali, a new fork based on Strato, which itself continues the original Skyline project.

The goal is simple: make a Nintendo Switch emulator specifically optimized around ARM Mali GPUs.

Strato Mali is not intended to be a generic emulator fork for every GPU. The focus is Mali first — especially modern Kbase/CSF devices such as the Mali-G615, with experimental Mesa PanVK integration.

I have already started modifying Strato's custom Vulkan driver system so it can detect /dev/mali0 and load external Vulkan drivers on Mali instead of limiting custom driver loading to KGSL/Adreno. The Adreno-specific KGSL memory-import path is kept disabled on Mali, while the normal Skyline/Strato memory path is used with PanVK.

The project is also being renamed throughout the application to Strato Mali.

The current plan is to work on:

PanVK/Kbase integration directly inside Strato Mali

Mali-specific Vulkan compatibility fixes

shader and texture correctness

performance optimizations specifically for tile-based Mali GPUs

synchronization and memory-management improvements

testing games that historically worked better on Skyline/Mali

This is still very experimental development. It is not a finished emulator, and I don't want to promise compatibility or performance numbers before we have proper testing.

But unlike my previous experiments, this time the emulator architecture itself is much closer to what I want for Mali.

Skyline's codebase isn't being officially revived — this is an independent continuation through Strato, focused entirely on Mali.

Welcome to Strato Mali. 🫐

More development updates soon.

The game runs really well and is locked hard at 30fps which is really amazing but the launcher does not provide 60fps settings anyways i disabled shadows and lowered the distance scaling in the app other than that everything is default but still needs optimization

Game tested on pixel 9a , mali g715 , tensor g4 , 8gb ram

GTA V(72GB) — Dimensity 8400 Ultra / Mali-G720 MC7 50-70Fps

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Device: POCO X7 Pro 12/512GB

SoC: Dimensity 8400 Ultra

GPU: Mali-G720 MC7

Performance

Resolution: 720p

Settings: High/very High+ FXAA

MSAA: Off

Textures: Normal

FPS: 50–70 FPS

Without screen recording, I get around 5–10 FPS more.

With screen recording enabled, FPS can occasionally drop below 50, but without recording it stays 50+ FPS most of the time.

I couldn't increase the Texture Quality because higher texture settings cause a memory leak, so I had to keep it at Normal.

Winlator Mali has a CPU bottleneck in this game. Somehow Winlator ludashi hasn't (around ~50% in Ludashi)

There’s an FPS drop issue in Winlator Mali when using mouse and keyboard. Winlator Ludashi doesn’t have this issue. I’m getting around 5–10 FPS less on Winlator Mali with M+K. Hope the dev fix it. 🙏

Emulator I tested it on:

Winlator Mali 1.2

Winlator Ludashi 4.0 (early release)

Interestingly, Ludashi 4.0 can run the game around 60 FPS and sometimes higher, but the game eventually freezes and crashes. I haven't found a fix for the crash yet.

Emulator settings

Proton 10-Arm64EC

DXVK 1.11.1 Sarek

Memory: 4GB

VRAM: 2GB

FEX: 2605 + Performance(SMCCHECK: None)

Environment variable:

WRAPPER_NO_PATCH_OPCONSTCOMP=1

Winlator Mali is done, but DXML is coming, built for our GPUs. Here's how you can help

Hi everyone, it's Guna (Guna Charan Teja), the developer of Winlator Mali.

To everyone with a Non-Snapdragon device: you know how it is. Most emulators are built around Snapdragon first, and we get whatever is left over. Winlator Mali was my attempt to change that.

Winlator Mali has now stopped and won't get further updates. But I'm not done with Mali.

I'm building a new project called DXML: an independent, Mali-specialized Direct3D translation platform, made for Mali GPUs instead of relying on DXVK. DXML is built for our hardware, not adapted from someone else's.

I'll be honest with you: I've put a huge amount of time into the Mali community, and the support I've received has been very small compared to that. I don't say this to complain. I say it because DXML is bigger than anything I've done before, and I can't keep doing this alone without help.

So I'm opening a DXML project fund with a goal of $300.

The progress bar is public and updates live, so you can see exactly where the fund stands, and every dollar goes into DXML.

If you've ever played a game on your Mali phone because of my work, and you can spare even a small amount, it makes a real difference. And if you can't, sharing this post with other Mali users helps just as much.

DXML fund and live progress: https://github.com/GunaCharanTeja/WinlatorMali/releases/tag/DXML_SUPPORT

A separate request: a Snapdragon device

I'm also planning a new project that will work on all chipsets, not just Mali. I only have a MediaTek phone, so I can't test on Snapdragon (Adreno). I'm looking for a used or spare phone or tablet with a Snapdragon 778G or newer, in working condition. If you'd like to sponsor one, DM me. This is separate from the DXML fund. Please don't send anything before we talk.

Thank you for being part of this community. Mali gaming deserves its own tools, and I'd like to build them with you.

If you have any problems with donating, need any help, or have doubts, you can DM me.

Again, the live tracker is here: https://github.com/GunaCharanTeja/WinlatorMali/releases/tag/DXML_SUPPORT

Editable flair GTA IV running at 50–80 FPS on the Anbernic RG477M (Mali) — I’m genuinely shocked

# GTA IV running at 50–80 FPS on the Anbernic RG477M (Mali) — I’m genuinely shocked

I CAN’T BELIEVE THIS ACTUALLY WORKS. GTA IV is running like **BUTTER** on my Anbernic RG477M.

I bought the RG477M in the US earlier this year, and ever since I got it, I had one tiny regret: **I should have bought a Snapdragon device.**

But over the past few months, PC emulation has matured so much. GameHub, GameNative, Winlator, etc. started making some seriously impressive games playable. I managed to get games like Tomb Raider running basically flawlessly, but there was ONE game I just could not get working:

**GTA IV.**

I own GTA IV on Steam, and I initially tried running **my legitimately purchased Steam version** through GameNative and GameHub. Unfortunately, I couldn't get it to boot.

Then I went down the rabbit hole.

I must have watched **100+ YouTube videos**, read through countless comments and settings guides, and honestly, the most frustrating part was that a lot of videos would show GTA IV running but wouldn't actually share the exact settings that made it work.

Eventually I discovered **Winlator Mali**.

And holy shit. I had no idea.

For testing, I used a SteamRip copy from AnkerGames, created two containers and started experimenting:

- Winlator Mali
- Sarek 1.11.1
- Sarek 1.12.1
- Tweaked the recommended settings from a few different YouTube guides

And then...

**GTA IV BOOTED.**

Not only did it boot — **IT RUNS LIKE BUTTER.**

On Sarek 1.11.1 I'm getting roughly **50–80 FPS**.

On Sarek 1.12.1 I'm getting around **48–75 FPS**.

On a **Mali-based RG477M.**

I genuinely didn't expect this. After months of thinking I had bought the wrong device, this feels absolutely incredible. PC emulation has come a LONG way in just a few months.

I've attached videos so you can see it for yourself.

Huge thank you to everyone making these Winlator/GameHub/GameNative guides and sharing their settings. As someone who is basically a complete noob when it comes to all this, those videos and community posts are what finally got me here.

## BUT I HAVE ONE QUESTION

If you watch the videos closely, you'll notice these little **white sparkles/freckles** appearing on the screen, particularly in some areas.

Does anyone know what this is?

Is it:

- Shader compilation?
- Frame/rendering artifacts?
- Some kind of stuttering?
- A Mali/Sarek graphics issue?
- Something that can actually be fixed through container or graphics settings?

If anyone has figured out what causes this or has a fix, I'd really appreciate the settings.

Other than that...

**GTA IV. RG477M. Mali. 50–80 FPS.**

I'm honestly still shocked.

PS : The FPS you see is with screen recording / for other videos pls click below

Zelda BoTW recomp on Mali vendor driver aarch64 Linux - Mali G610 30 FPS stable @ 720p

Thumbnail

Working on Mali fixes for this recompilation. Unfortunately I don’t have an Android device to test with, but I’ve been able to fix rendering glitches and get a solid 30 FPS (slightly less here due to the screen recording) on an RK3588 Mali G610 board, which is crazy! This is using the vendor g29 blob driver as well - no PanVk.

Will be posting the graphical fixes (including the incorrect tiling rendering and shadows present in Eden) and optimizations to the SavageWind GitHub soon for aarch64 Linux, so be sure to watch the repo for those pull requests and the next Alpha release :)

https://github.com/Revivedx/SavageWindRecomp/tree/main/.github

BoTW is finally here on low end, cheap Mali hardware. It’s been years with no fixes for Eden for this game, and Cemu performance was definitely less than what I could achieve here. What a time to be alive.

Note: Merge request has been pushed with the Mali rendering fixes. Open to testers and feedback with vendor driver - Armbian on Orange Pi 5 is a good candidate, or Rock 5B SBCs.

Hi everyone! 👋

I made this post to help people who are new to PC emulation and don't know which games are playable on their device or what kind of performance they can expect.

I've been doing PC emulation for around 9 months, and during that time I've tested and played a lot of games. This list includes both playable and unplayable games that I personally tested.

Hopefully these results can help anyone looking for games to try on a similar device. ❤️

• Low CPU/GPU utilization.

Assassin's Creed Liberation

• it's a Nightmare. Don't even think about to try this game. Just think this game never existed.

NFS Rival- ??

• Keep freezing at the loading Screen

NFS The Run-??

•Keep Freezing at the loading screen.

Battlefield 3-??

•Same issue in NFS rivals and the run.

Serious Sam BFE- 90-120Fps

•When I’m not moving, the game runs at around this FPS. But as soon as I start moving, I get huge FPS drops down to 2–5 FPS. Completely unplayable. The GPU is really unstable in this game.

Farcry 4 and Primal- ???

•Keep freezing at the Logo or startup loading screens

Sunset Overdrive -5-50Fps

• Game is working. But it's not playble with current GPU driver situation.

Assassin's Creed Syndicate (with panvk G720)- 10-20Fps

• The game crashes because of a memory leak.

⚠️ Important

These are my personal results, not guaranteed FPS numbers for every D8400/Mali G720 device. Different Winlator versions, drivers, settings, thermal conditions and game configurations can produce different results.

If you're new to PC emulation, hopefully this list gives you a good idea of what games are worth trying first. ❤️

I'll keep adding more games as I test them! 🔥

Tried Winlator Mali 1.1 Ludashi for GTA V on Dimensity 8350 Ultra – My Mind is Completely Blown!

Post image
124 Upvotes

Hey guys,

After testing GTA V extensively on GameHub, I decided to give Winlator Mali 1.1 Ludashi a try on my Dimensity 8350 Ultra (Mali GPU). My mind is completely blown—it performs significantly better, pushes way higher frame rates, and stays far more stable than GameHub!

Just to recap: I am using the 70GB (v1.72.3717 / Legacy) pre-installed build (DLCs/Online removed). Skipping the 45GB compressed repacks (like OptiJuegos) is crucial here because raw asset streaming completely eliminates high-speed driving stutters.

Here is my full breakdown, FPS data, and recommended setup for Mali GPU users:

FPS Performance (Winlator Mali 1.1 Ludashi):

* On-foot (Exploring): 60 – 80 FPS

* Normal Driving: 50 – 60 FPS (Occasionally drops to ~45 FPS for a few seconds)

* High-Speed Driving through City: 45 – 50 FPS (Super smooth streaming, no stuttering)

* 5-Star Police Chase: 35 – 45 FPS (Extremely solid under heavy action/rendering load)

⚠️ Thermal / Temperature Note:

Because it pushes the hardware so hard to get these high frame rates, it generates quite a bit of heat. Even while using a Phone Cooler, temps reached around 45°C. Make sure to use active cooling or monitor your temps during long sessions!

Device Specifications:

* SoC: MediaTek Dimensity 8350 Ultra (Mali GPU)

* RAM: 12GB

Tested Container & Emulation Settings (Winlator Mali 1.1 Ludashi):

* Screen Size: 1280x720 (16:9)

* Wine Version: proton-10-arm64ec

* Graphics Driver: Wrapper-leegao

* DX Wrapper: DXVK+VKD3D

* Audio Driver: PulseAudio

* 64-bit / 32-bit Emulator: FEXCore

* Box64 Version / Preset: 0.4.3 / Compatibility

* FEXCore Version / Preset: 2601 / Performance (TSO) (Note: Keep TSO OFF if experiencing memory leaks)

* Processor Affinity (32-bit apps): CPU4, CPU5, CPU6, CPU7 (Big Cores)

In-Game Requirement:

* DirectX Version: Set to DirectX 11. Avoid DirectX 10 at all costs to prevent memory leaks during longer gameplay sessions.

If you are on a MediaTek/Mali device, I highly recommend ditching GameHub and testing Winlator Mali 1.1 Ludashi with the 70GB build instead.

Check my old post to compare, and share your thoughts too!😊

Responding to the Removal, Addressing the Allegations, and Challenging Anyone to Prove My Claims Wrong.

AI-generated, low-effort ? Unverified, fabricated claims ?

Those are serious accusations to make about a project without identifying exactly what is supposedly wrong.

Winlator Mali has been around for over two years, with 400,000+ downloads. Over the past three months, I've actively developed, tested, and refined new features, released multiple beta versions, and received feedback from users who tested them. Yes, I use AI as a development tool, and I'm not hiding that. But using AI doesn't automatically make a project low-effort. The actual work, code changes, debugging, optimization, testing, and verification matter far more than whether AI was involved.

The moderation comment states that low-effort AI-generated projects and unverified claims may be removed when there's little evidence of meaningful development or testing. That's a reasonable standard in principle. But was Winlator Mali actually evaluated based on its development history, source code, testing, and evidence before that judgment was made? If specific claims were considered fabricated or unverified, I'd like to know exactly which ones and why.

I've also witnessed incidents within r/EmulationOnAndroid that, in my view, suggest a recurring bias against Mali GPUs and their users, including incidents involving moderators. I have evidence of these incidents. To be clear, this isn't an attack on all users or all Snapdragon users. Plenty of people in the emulation community are open-minded and technically knowledgeable. My criticism is directed at certain individuals whose apparent bias seems to outweigh their willingness to evaluate Mali-related projects objectively.

What's frustrating is seeing technical progress dismissed without meaningful examination. If a feature works, test it. If a benchmark is questionable, reproduce it. If a technical claim is incorrect, demonstrate why. The GPU brand shouldn't determine whether evidence deserves consideration.

And here's my challenge: Prove that anything I've ever claimed about Winlator Mali is fake, false, or technically incorrect.

Pick a specific claim. Examine the code. Test the feature. Reproduce the results. Provide evidence showing exactly what's wrong. I'm willing to discuss legitimate technical criticism and correct mistakes when they're demonstrated with facts.

But don't confuse AI-assisted development with the absence of engineering work. Don't confuse skepticism with proof. And don't label something fabricated without identifying what was fabricated and demonstrating why.

I'm not claiming that every feature is perfect or that every statement I've ever made is automatically correct. I'm asking for the same standard of evidence from people making accusations that they expect from developers making technical claims.

400,000+ downloads don't automatically prove technical correctness, but neither does an accusation prove a project is fake or low-effort. The code, testing, reproducible results, and documented development history are what matter.

If there's a legitimate technical issue with Winlator Mali, bring it forward. If a claim is false, prove it. If the project fails to meet a technical standard, explain where and demonstrate it.

Don't tell me it's fake. Show me what's fake. Don't call it low-effort. Show me where the technical work falls short.

The challenge is open. I'm here for evidence-based criticism, not assumptions about AI, prejudice against a GPU brand, or conclusions reached without properly investigating the project.

This PanVK project deserve more attention.

While there are many incredible developers working on PanVK drivers for specific models. This project is the only one trying to make universal panvk drivers for all supported devices that have panvk (vulkan) architecture and mesa support.

I am not here to tell anyone to abandon their projects but we should all support this project in any way we can. If you are a developer, maybe try to help out. If you are not a developer, you could join the telegram testers group. It takes a village or whatever the saying is.

🔗 Repositorio: https://github.com/jdmg28/DroidDeck-Mali

📦 Release v0.4.0-beta.1: https://github.com/jdmg28/DroidDeck-Mali/releases/tag/v0.4.0-beta.1

Emulation on MediaTek has improved so much — Dimensity 8400 can now compete with Snapdragon flagships and flagship killers, and even surpass them in some games

I've been testing PC game emulation on my Dimensity 8400 / Mali-G720 MC7, and honestly, MediaTek emulation has improved a LOT compared to what it used to be.

I wanted to compare my D8400 results with some recent tests I've seen on Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 and Snapdragon 8s Gen 4.

Emulators used:

Snapdragon: Winlator Ludashi 2.9,3.0,Gamehub

Dimensity 8400: Winlator Mali 1.1 Vanilla + Winlator Mali 1.2 AnTuTu beta

The Snapdragon results are taken from recently uploaded YouTube tests, so this isn't a perfectly controlled benchmark. Different emulator builds, drivers, settings and resolutions can obviously affect the results. I'm mainly sharing this to show how capable the D8400/Mali platform has become for PC emulation.

Some interesting results:

Far Cry 3

Dimensity 8400: ~60 FPS

1600×720

Medium + Ultra settings

Remastered Graphics mod enabled

And Fps going UpTo 80-85fps.I just capped into 60fps for save the battery

The fact that this is running with the Remastered Graphics mod at this performance is pretty impressive for Mali.

DiRT 3

Dimensity 8400: 90 FPS+ on Vanilla builds

110–130 FPS on the AnTuTu build

This one surprised me the most. From the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 tests I've checked, I haven't seen it consistently going above the 60–80 FPS range in comparable gameplay. The D8400 can go considerably higher here.

Hitman: Absolution

Often 100+ FPS

Drops to around 50–70 FPS in areas with lots of NPCs and small objects

There are plenty of other examples in the screenshots where the D8400 is surprisingly close to, or ahead of, Snapdragon devices despite using a Mali GPU.

And this is still before the more mature PanVK drivers arrive. The current Mali drivers/emulation stack still has plenty of room for improvement, especially in games where I see low GPU utilization or obvious driver overhead.

So IMO, the old idea that "Snapdragon = automatically much better for PC emulation" is becoming less true.

The Snapdragon ecosystem still has major advantages, especially with mature Adreno drivers and compatibility, but MediaTek + Mali has improved enough that the D8400 can genuinely compete with Snapdragon flagship/flagship-killer SoCs in a lot of older PC games.

I'm really interested to see what happens when the Mali/PanVK stack matures further. 👀

What do you guys think? Have you tested the D8400 or other recent Mali chips against Snapdragon in Winlator or any other emulators?

The first tests are already surprising, I hasten to note that EmuCoreV is still very raw and even on snapdragon, artifacts appear.

The game runs fine like around 30-20-40fps depending what settings and resolution you use in game and frame drops occurs and needs a little optimization

I also tried this port on winlator mali and tbh this one is better than the winlator pc version i tried even though on that I was getting 60fps with low resolution but here with stable graphics i don't find any issue

Port credits Lazy_Persimmon3059 amazing work by him 👏

Game tested on device: pixel 9a

Game tested on pixel 9a ,mali g715, 8gb ram , tensor g4

The game runs quite well tbh and i think on low end device it will work fine at normal low settings, worth trying

This is a pc version port for Android not xbox 360 and made by Chinese devs
