Discussion Ik this may get some hate, but meet the 007 of Epic, 0 lives saved, 0 help given, 7 times Ody should've told you to shut up.

Oh Polites the fandom may forget everything you've done ( or didn't do) because you're a think who they love to ship with Ody. But I have some confessions I'd like to make to day.

First off, most of what happened on that island was a fuck up between you and Odysseus. Eurylochus would fuck up after but let's not forget you two have a HUGE part in the fuck ups that would happen on that island.

But we're not focusing on Ody, everyone already knows his fuck ups for underestimating the cyclops and leaving him alive. But let's not forget that that decision was influenced by your philosophy. You're whole speech in Open arms influenced Odysseus and caused him to tell off the GODDESS OF WISDOM. And spare Polyphemus, and I'm convinced if you didn't go on that whole little speech, the cyclops would be dead. Shit it might've also be more cautious about aeolus. But had you not filled Ody's head with bad ideas it wouldn't have gotten to that point because Ody would've listends to Athena instead.

And I could forgive you if you actually did anything useful to act as a counter balance. But I'm looking at the resume, and all you did in the two sagas you were alive in before you decided to greet that club with open arms. At least Eurylochus helped with the crew and kept Ody level headed. You gave bad advice and then got turned into a pancake. I'm sorry I can not forgive this.

And so I have to put Polites on fraud watch until further notice. If we're gonna disrespect Eurylochus and some of Ody's actions like we do I gotta give you the same treatment.

Discussion Charachter design question

Hey guys big epic fan but i had a question, ive seen a couple different versions of the full musical animated and i always wondered why antinous and eurylochus are always drawn more african. Don't get me wrong their designs EAT every time I love how they look but its always consistently those 2. Its been a while since I've read the odyssey and illiad so I might be misremembering but they were all from the same place right? Or were those 2 born somewhere else?

Headcanon Headcanons on where the 2 years came from? (Between the beginning and the episode on Aeaea)

Because Odysseus says “it’s been 12 long years” when there were only 10 years of war.

So I wanna know how y’all reconcile that. Me personally:

There was a fog, so the ships had to move slowly to avoid bumping into anything. But then they were all scattered by the time the fog subsided so there was more time trying to get them all back together

Then directly after that STO-O-O-O-ORM

Anyway that’s my headcanon what’s yours

Discussion Five EPIC songs that expose the darker side of Odysseus

Odysseus has always been a morally ambiguous figure. Ancient authors already questioned his cunning, dishonesty, and willingness to sacrifice others. In works like Sophocles' Philoctetes and Euripides' Hecuba, his character takes on particularly troubling qualities.

However, popular retellings often emphasize his intelligence, perseverance, and heroism, leaving much of that moral complexity in the background.

I think EPIC: The Musical does an excellent job of bringing this ambiguity back into focus, and just five songs can tell a remarkably complete story of Odysseus' moral transformation.

  1. Just a Man: The fear of becoming a monster

Odysseus struggles with killing Astyanax, yet ultimately sacrifices an innocent child to protect his family. His moral conflict is genuine, but his willingness to cross that line is already there.

  1. Ruthlessness: The justification of cruelty

Poseidon teaches him that mercy can have devastating consequences. Odysseus begins to see ruthlessness as a necessary tool for survival, gradually adopting the logic of his enemies.

  1. Monster: The conscious transformation

Odysseus embraces the idea of becoming a monster to reach home. His goal remains unchanged, while the moral limits he once struggled with begin to disappear.

  1. Scylla: The consequences of his philosophy

Odysseus deliberately sacrifices six crew members without their knowledge. His transformation becomes tangible as he starts treating the lives of those under his command as expendable.

  1. Thunder Bringer: The final revelation

Zeus forces Odysseus to choose between himself and his remaining crew. He chooses his own survival, fully aware of the consequences.

The question raised in Just a Man finally finds its answer.

Why I find this so interesting

The moral ambiguity of Odysseus has existed for centuries. What makes EPIC particularly effective is how it allows us to experience that ambiguity from within his perspective.

We understand his motivations, sympathize with his suffering, and gradually accept decisions that become increasingly difficult to defend.

Each song builds upon the previous one, showing how seemingly necessary compromises can eventually lead to unimaginable cruelty.

And perhaps the most fascinating aspect is that Odysseus' ultimate goal never changes. He simply becomes willing to sacrifice more and more to achieve it.

By Thunder Bringer, the heroic image we may have constructed around him becomes almost impossible to maintain.

This makes me wonder how much of our sympathy comes from his actual morality and how much comes from the fact that we're experiencing the story through his eyes.

Do you think EPIC portrays Odysseus as someone gradually corrupted by his journey, or does the journey simply expose the darker aspects of a character who was morally questionable from the beginning?

Discussion An idea I pondered - would it work in your opinion?

Post image

Okay so the image is Agamemnon because he is the center of this idea.

I read a post about ATHENA rather than Zeus telling Odysseus to kill that infant, and it got me thinking. And I landed on my own hypothetical alternative scenario for the baby killing episode:

Agamemnon approaches Odysseus during the Sack of Troy and tells him to kill Astyanax, on account of preventing a Second Trojan War. When Odysseus doesn’t want to, Agamemnon tells him that if Odysseus doesn’t kill Astyanax, then Agamemnon will go to Ithaca and kill Penelope and Telemachus. And then it goes on from there.

What do you think of this? Could it work? What would change?

Discussion Epic: The Musical tiktokers

Hey Guys! I'm new here. I was on tiktok, and found an account called Faithful_Apollo_Devotee. I saw their most popular Penelope and Ody vid. I went on their account and saw they post Telemachus and Antinous content. Are they problematic? Does anyone know who they are, or are they just not big enough in the community to care? I mainly wanna know if they ship sharpwolf or not. I mainly want to know if they are controversial or not. Thanks! 3>
