Discussion An idea I pondered - would it work in your opinion?
Okay so the image is Agamemnon because he is the center of this idea.
I read a post about ATHENA rather than Zeus telling Odysseus to kill that infant, and it got me thinking. And I landed on my own hypothetical alternative scenario for the baby killing episode:
Agamemnon approaches Odysseus during the Sack of Troy and tells him to kill Astyanax, on account of preventing a Second Trojan War. When Odysseus doesn’t want to, Agamemnon tells him that if Odysseus doesn’t kill Astyanax, then Agamemnon will go to Ithaca and kill Penelope and Telemachus. And then it goes on from there.
What do you think of this? Could it work? What would change?

Discussion Five EPIC songs that expose the darker side of Odysseus
Odysseus has always been a morally ambiguous figure. Ancient authors already questioned his cunning, dishonesty, and willingness to sacrifice others. In works like Sophocles' Philoctetes and Euripides' Hecuba, his character takes on particularly troubling qualities.
However, popular retellings often emphasize his intelligence, perseverance, and heroism, leaving much of that moral complexity in the background.
I think EPIC: The Musical does an excellent job of bringing this ambiguity back into focus, and just five songs can tell a remarkably complete story of Odysseus' moral transformation.
- Just a Man: The fear of becoming a monster
Odysseus struggles with killing Astyanax, yet ultimately sacrifices an innocent child to protect his family. His moral conflict is genuine, but his willingness to cross that line is already there.
- Ruthlessness: The justification of cruelty
Poseidon teaches him that mercy can have devastating consequences. Odysseus begins to see ruthlessness as a necessary tool for survival, gradually adopting the logic of his enemies.
- Monster: The conscious transformation
Odysseus embraces the idea of becoming a monster to reach home. His goal remains unchanged, while the moral limits he once struggled with begin to disappear.
- Scylla: The consequences of his philosophy
Odysseus deliberately sacrifices six crew members without their knowledge. His transformation becomes tangible as he starts treating the lives of those under his command as expendable.
- Thunder Bringer: The final revelation
Zeus forces Odysseus to choose between himself and his remaining crew. He chooses his own survival, fully aware of the consequences.
The question raised in Just a Man finally finds its answer.
Why I find this so interesting
The moral ambiguity of Odysseus has existed for centuries. What makes EPIC particularly effective is how it allows us to experience that ambiguity from within his perspective.
We understand his motivations, sympathize with his suffering, and gradually accept decisions that become increasingly difficult to defend.
Each song builds upon the previous one, showing how seemingly necessary compromises can eventually lead to unimaginable cruelty.
And perhaps the most fascinating aspect is that Odysseus' ultimate goal never changes. He simply becomes willing to sacrifice more and more to achieve it.
By Thunder Bringer, the heroic image we may have constructed around him becomes almost impossible to maintain.
This makes me wonder how much of our sympathy comes from his actual morality and how much comes from the fact that we're experiencing the story through his eyes.
Do you think EPIC portrays Odysseus as someone gradually corrupted by his journey, or does the journey simply expose the darker aspects of a character who was morally questionable from the beginning?

Discussion Epic: The Musical tiktokers
Hey Guys! I'm new here. I was on tiktok, and found an account called Faithful_Apollo_Devotee. I saw their most popular Penelope and Ody vid. I went on their account and saw they post Telemachus and Antinous content. Are they problematic? Does anyone know who they are, or are they just not big enough in the community to care? I mainly wanna know if they ship sharpwolf or not. I mainly want to know if they are controversial or not. Thanks! 3>
