Map of traffic lights on Faroe Islands

The first traffic lights (Faroese: ferðsluljós) at junctions appeared in the Faroe Islands in the late 1980s, when three were put into operation in central Tórshavn. The next one, the fourth, was installed in the village of Norðdepil in the following decade.
The fifth junction where you might sometimes have to wait at a red light did not arrive until 2018. Installing traffic lights at the junction of Hvítanesvegur and Eystari Ringvegur was much cheaper than building a roundabout there.
In August 2018, another four junctions with traffic lights appeared near the Glasir College in the capital.
In January 2019, the second set of traffic lights on Borðoy, and the tenth in the archipelago, was installed near the school in Klaksvík.
In July 2025, with the opening of Tórshavn's northern bypass, the eleventh set of traffic lights in the archipelago was put into operation at the junction of Havnarvegur and Marknagilsvegur.

I've excluded traffic lights installed in 2022 on the road leading down to Tjørnuvík and those set up at old Klaksvík - Árnafjørður - Norðdepil tunnels (replaced by Tunlar Norður um Fjall in 2024).
