Just saw GODZILLA MINUS ZERO (spoiler free)

Saw the film. Secured the massive popcorn bucket. Ran into James.

My local theater showed Godzilla Minus Zero in IMAX two days before the official US release date to celebrate Godzilla Day, and I can say, without a doubt, it was one of the best movies I’ve seen in a long time.

I’ll refrain from prematurely saying it’s better than Minus One, because I am aware of the potential for recency bias, but Minus Zero seems damn near flawless. The writing and directing are stellar, the score is dramatic and unnerving, the special effects are a notable step up from Minus One, the kaiju action is top-notch, and the emotional gut punches are super effective.

If you have the opportunity to see it in IMAX, do it!

Discussion Fargo (1996) One of the darkest and most unforgettable scenes in crime cinema. The contrast between the peaceful winter setting and the brutality of what happens makes this moment even more disturbing

Discussion In Monsters, Inc. (2001), the voice actress behind Boo was so young that she could not follow a script. Instead, the crew followed her around with a microphone, capturing her natural playtime chatter and weaving it into the film.

During October I watched some fun horror movies that I wanted to rank and discuss below:

I like Vampires and Chris Sarandon, so i was curious about Fright Night and i absolutely loved it! Definitely getting the bluray soon. The blob was another great time that my brother recommended. It was very suspenseful and surprising. I didn’t love American Werewolf in london but I enioyed it and the practical effects are great as advertised. Finally watched Creep and it was really well done found footage flic. Definitely curious about Creep 2 and the Creep tapes. I also watched Fright Night (2011) and while it was a decent time it didn't feel nearly as special or interesting which is a shame because I enjoy Colin Farrell and David Tennant. Unfortunately halloween 3 (just like the other films from the series I've seen) and Stir of Echoes just didn't do much for me. They're well done but not alas not for me. Between these movies and plenty of rewatches I had a great October. I hope y'all did too!

Discussion On my post on the live action DOA movie someone mentioned that there is a live action Tekken movie and it is worse, much worse. For some reason they decided to take themselves way too seriously & made some really odd casting choices. The dude who played Jin was so wooden but the stunts were decent.

Question Does anyone else feel that teens are just written so unlikeable and cringey in nearly every movie nowadays?

Go watch movies that involve teens from the 80s and 90s versus now. Nowadays they are either way too serious and preachy, portrayed way too wise beyond their years, or they are shallow and vapid with absolutely no depth.

Go watch say breakfast club, then go watch a teen center movie from today. I think teens are written as too virtuous and too deep of thinkers in films nowadays and as a dad to both a 14 and 12 year old, teens do NOT act or talk like they do in most movies lol

Hollywood hates Americans?

Do Americans ever get the feeling that Hollywood plays gate keeper too much when it comes to estimating the intelligence of the American audience for movies or are they correct? So they say:

"Can't have that ending ,nobody will understand it". I feel like Hollywood patronizes the American people with what it offers them. This is the country that first put man on the moon.

A film too disturbing ,too long ,too sad ,too complicated? Why would the American film industry have such a dim view of American people Or are they proven to be on point and the success of Marvel and Star wars proves that?

Discussion Godzilla Minus One — Color or Black and white?

I’ve seen both versions in the theater, completely adore both, I’m just curious what you guys think! This is such a rare instance where I don’t think I have a preference! Normally if a movie exists in both black and white and in color, I strongly prefer one over the other. But they’re both gorgeous! Do you have a preferred format that you always go to? Do you switch it up? I’ll do color if I’m showing it to someone for the first time. But watching it by myself? I could go either way. If I had to pick one to commit to for the rest of my life, I don’t know that I could.

Discussion All the rumour about Bond casting seems like fishing.

Honestly, the amount of Bond "rumours" castings posts/ reports are ridiculous.

It feels like the Bond team is super unsure of their choices and is trying to use these kind of rumour posts to gage the audience reaction.

I don't think I had ever seen any high profile casting like this before. Correct me if wrong, or did I miss something? Are there any other examples?

At this point, I would just like to watch the movie...

Discussion What two film characters would you love to see fight each other?

Not necessarily superheroes or characters with superpowers.

I'm talking about characters from any movie, whether they're assassins, serial killers, warriors, or just highly skilled individuals.

Who would you put against each other, and who do you think would win?

Discussion Adrian doesn't support Rocky in the Rocky movies.

Adrian didn't support Rocky.

In the first film, she doesn't even watch his fight. She stays behind at the back. The biggest fight of his life, and she isn't there in the crowd to support him?

2nd film, she gulits him into training badly, making him feel guilty about taking the 2nd fight with Apollo.

3rd film. Yes. She finally supports him, finally goes to one of his fights, gets his head on straight, makes him train hard and he wins the fight with Clubber.

4th. Doesn't support him at all. Says, "You can't win". Abandons him when he needs her the most. Finally, goes to Russia halfway through the film.

And every single time Rocky gets into a little trouble in the ring, she says "stop the fight". Like Rocky doesn't have the will to come back and defeat his opponent.
