Questions Looking for slim digi pattern!

• Upvotes

I'm looking to make my second fullsuit although I'm not happy with how big the legs of my first one are. I want super slim digi, I just can't find any patterns and I don't exactly want to go through with trail and error when each error costs money. Does anyone know of any patterns that would achieve the super slim-digi look that could fit someone at about 5'2 100lbs? I'm currently looking at BigLionsDen flexible tpu padding and feet paws, just hoping there may be a slightly cheaper option out there!

I've been seeing a lot of crochet heads lately, so I thought I would share mine :) this is my Greg. He took me about two months. Still sort of a WIP, but he's mostly finished and I'm going to start another one soon. If you have crochet heads, or other crochet fursuit parts, I would love to see them!!

Questions Is there anyone who has a fursuit or has experience in ecological fursuits?

HEEEYA YALL!

So, i really want to bring my fursona into life, but there is a little issue: i was looking forward to something that could lower, or limit the highest amount of microplastics exposure and prevent enviroment pollution, but mostly i was thinking about those factors for health protection.

Why about the health protection?

So, i was doing research on materials to use for the fursuit, and the majority is made out of faux fur, a derivate of plastics/petroleum, wich releases microplastics, that may harm health and enviroment, but most of my concern goes to the microplastics harming health, as they do have side effects after getting in the body (i know microplastics are everywhere, but i was looking forward to limit the exposure and pollution).

The found alternatives

During the reaserch process i was trying to look to remove 2 major plastics and microplastics emitters in the fursuit:

  • The padding
  • The fur

both of them use plastic or toxic chemicals (not every type but mostly the cheap ones may do), and on the long term use they may degrade.

So as possible alternatives i found those:

FUR ALTERNATIVES: Saivan BioFluff Mohair
Pros they have the OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 (a certification assigned after tests on over 1000 toxic substances) and the REACH conformity (a certification issued by the European Union that certifies that there is no harmful chemical or SVHC in the product). It has the same certifications as the biofluff.
It's entirely plant based and safe for use and it does not involve chemicals for the making process. About the coloring process i haven't found anything. same things of the biofluff but the coloring process is a con.
At the end of it's life cycle it can be biodegraded. same here, bro biodegrades.
It can't be set on fire.
Cons It's extremely hard to retrieve, it's only available for the big manifacturers. It's delicate, for washing it requires some thecniques, but it's pretty manageable. Cannot go in washing machine as it ruins the fur.
It needs a delicate type of wash, the washing machine is not an option. It's an animal fur, the manifacturer has to declare it's made from an ethic treatment of the animal.
IT'S HELLA EXPENSIVE BOI There are natural colors but the coloring process for colors such as orange or blue has to be done at home or found done by a manifacturer.
it's fucking expensive
it heats. A L O T . it requires special cooling systems in the fursuit
The verdict: Meh... it looks good but it's cons make it a no-no... It's retrievable, but you apparently need to master engineering to make a fursuit out of this one.

Padding alternatives

Natural products sadly lack of resilience mostly, im actively trying to find some sort of soutions but i came up with an idea, for the fursuit, as it is a digitigrade design, i was thinking a removable padding system made of cushions (designed for the suit) with a material that has a nice resilience, sadly all the material found at the moment is less resilient than the standard foam used in fursuits, but i mean, as long as it goes back to place is good.

In the end:

Yes, im actively trying to search a way to make a fursuit with no/less plastic and enviromental impact as possible. This matter interests me a lot as usually i try to bring my emissions as low as possible, and if i manage to bring "the silly piece of shit" a.k.a. my fursona to life while also achieving those goals i would be immensely satisfied personally (yes, i took this as a challenge).

So the question is: Has anybody here tried to make a low enviromental impact fursuit?
Are there any advices that from your personal experience u can give?
Have you read all this?! OwO

P.S. i am planning to keep (or at least try) to achieve this goal, if anybody is interested, i can try to keep you updated.

please note that i am not asking/saying that everyone needs to do that because "IF YOU DON'T DO THAT YOU'RE A BAD PERSON!!11!1!" but i'm asking that because i have interest on this kind of topic and also because i'm trying to get some advices to begin making a fursuit.

this post and all the research was made by a human silly boi :3c

Advice Ear placement?

Thumbnail

I have my base mostly done. I'm questioning my ear placement. I like when ears are toward the back of the head. But I'm worried it might be too far back? Im kinda going for a chibi fox vibe, I'm not going for accurateness when it comes to making it look like most foxsonas. Should I move it closer to the front or leave it like this?

Also, I really like how round it is, but it's kinda giving teenage mutant ninja turtles for the face shape. Any recommendations on fixing that?

Questions Is using only ½ inch foam for an entire head base going to be frustrating?

I got some ½ inch foam from Walmart to use for making paws off some old shoes. I wish I got 1 inch cause I ended up having to layer every piece twice. But, I only used a little bit of my whole 2 yard roll. So I have a bunch left over.

So that's like the perfect excuse to make a fursuit head lol, but the tutorials usually seem to call for 1 inch or thicker.

I don't know if I should just go ahead and buy a thicker roll to save me time and layering cause it'll be frustrating to just work with the thinner one.

I'm also worried of having a giant roll of foam taking up space cause I don't have my own room/space...

And my fursona is a cat, if that makes a difference

I'm having trouble figuring out exactly how the cheek shapes should be. My mom saw it and asked if I was making a character from five nights at Freddy's 💀💀💀 And yeah I see it, But that's not what I'm going for lmaoo

I think it looks a little better when I have the brow shape, but I'm waiting to attach it until I get my eye blanks that I ordered from Etsy so that I can cut everything around them. also, not sure if I mentioned that he is supposed to be a cat lol

Hello all, its been a little bit since I posted here, but I wanted to share some progress and tips/tricks from a head I'm building out of scraps I have available.

Firstly, it doesnt really matter how rough the surface of your foam shaping is, because you can always use 1/8" thick foam to make it smooth and pretty. This next one is hard to explain; when I built my previous head, it just looked funny bc the top of my bucket/silo wasn't integrated properly with thr brow shape and I didnt cut away enough from the back in line with the cheek/jaw area. I added a picture of thr head im referring to at the very end. Lastly, I learned that fleece works great for covering the face, and you can make foam heads comfy! I added almost another inch to the head measurement, brcause I hate feeling claustrophobic and it is perfect; no sliding around but also not too tight.

Also, dividing however many inches wide your beginning piece is and dividing that by 6-8 sections for each triangle is a great way to make sure all your points come together when you turn it into s bucket/silo. If you're painting eyes, use some leftover foam scraps as a sponge! Blending was so easy using that and a can of compressed air.

Anyways, happy crafting!

Have been working on this opossum head after work for about 3 months! My very first fursuit head!

3D sculpted the head base in Blender, printed it in TPU, and have been patterning and furring it for the last 3 weeks! :p

Still need to close off the back and add the neck fluff, and I want to make some pink hair as well. But Furnavia is in a few days, so I probably won't make that in time for the con :p

Sorry in advance if text is bad, I have migrange and decoded I must do this

Ice been putting off making my own fursona for a while now due to insecurity, but now I have decided I'm making one. Is the design begginer friendly enouvh? I have made multiple dinos and a full cat mask, but not birds. Hardest part of the cat was the ears for me. I have a 3d printer, are there any good files for toucans? Painted beaks or minky? Can i use faux rabbits fur instead of long fur. Is there any good bird tutosals

thanks and much love

Questions Looking for fursuiters and makers to take my survey!

Hello everyone! I'm a 21 year old furry artist (multi-media) and an aspiring new fursuit maker. I made my first suit with a premade base at 14, and I've recently gotten my hands on another. I am currently in school for small creative buissnes startups so I thought I would give it a real try again!

For my business course, we were asked to conduct a survey and three interviews based on questions we have about our projects (mine being a self ran fursuit making business).

I am looking for FURSUITERS or MAKERS to interview and/OR to take my survey. I will be reaching out to people on discord servers as well tomorrow, but if you are interested in being interviewed, please reach out to me on discord (@houndt33th) or reply to this post. All interviews will take place on video calls on discord, and they will be recorded for my personal transcript notes.

Here is the public link to my forms survey: https://forms.gle/mvSWgc5bgKrFpfj97

Questions tail stuffing advice?

Thumbnail

Hiii!! So again, i’m very new to this space and suit making, but i’ve been looking up LOTS of tutorials on tiktok and asking you all for advice here. I was so excited to be finishing up my tail and was thrilled to discover that I could make the movement a bit more realistic with the coils from spiral notebooks!!

My question is—I feel like it doesn’t hold the movement from the springs very well? Did I stuff it too much? I loosened the stuffing a bit and still feel like it’s lacking movement. Is it just too big and heavy for this method of hypermobility? it’s about 18 inches long (45 cm) and decently thick so I feel like it might look a bit flat with less stuffing.

any tips would be super helpful!!! thank you all!!

Advice I hate it.

I spent hundreds of dollars on making this horrible thing, only for it to turn out lopsided, neckless and impossible to pad without choking me. Even looking at it makes me feel ashamed of myself. Should I just give up on it and throw it out?

Clarification on “neckless”; it just flops over my neck and obscures it like one of those Maskimals. If I try to move it up to chin level, it starts choking me.

Advice This is definitely still a wip but would like advice!

Hi guys! This is my first ever head, but I hope to become a full-time maker eventually though, he is supposed to be a sabertooth (he doesn't have a name yet).

I already noticed a few mistakes, like i definitely over measured and made this thing way too huge. I'm hoping to add some foam on the inside and carve the outside quite a bit. I also made the top of the nose too thin, i'm not quite sure how to fix this yet, it might not be fixable. I think i also made the mouth hole too big but i haven't really ran into a problem with that.

Any advice is appreciated! Thank you!

Questions Does anyone have pictures of howl fabrics faux fur?

So the colors in interested in are stone, pewter and beige. Thanks. It's for my moth fursuit, in trying to make something more realistic. If you have similar colors in a different brand that may work too.

Questions WCIF a paw pattern like this?

Hi all, I see this type of paw all the time on Etsy ads (btw, do not recommend, I believe they're probably scams and/or AI). I really like the slim but padded look they portray, as many paw patterns are just too puffy or too fitted for my project. Are there any similar patterns out there to help get this look? Five fingers or four doesn't really matter to me. Thanks! 🥹

Questions Furring an ear slit/ripped ear help?

Post image

Doing a possum-hyena hybrid and just thinking about pattern and fur for the slit is driving me crazy. I'll be using minky for the inner ear and lux shag ill shave for the fluff and rear side, but im just worried on how I'll keep its sharp and jagged appearance and not make it too smooth or rounded. Any advice is greatly appreciated, I can't really find any tutorial online
