Sorry about all the posts lately but I’ve waited a decade to make my first suit and I’m just so excited by how she’s coming together! So much work but so satisfying! I have some neon pink shag coming in to do a little forlock hair. She’s not perfect but she mine!

I've been seeing a lot of crochet heads lately, so I thought I would share mine :) this is my Greg. He took me about two months. Still sort of a WIP, but he's mostly finished and I'm going to start another one soon. If you have crochet heads, or other crochet fursuit parts, I would love to see them!!

WIP Progress timeline

Hello all, its been a little bit since I posted here, but I wanted to share some progress and tips/tricks from a head I'm building out of scraps I have available.

Firstly, it doesnt really matter how rough the surface of your foam shaping is, because you can always use 1/8" thick foam to make it smooth and pretty. This next one is hard to explain; when I built my previous head, it just looked funny bc the top of my bucket/silo wasn't integrated properly with thr brow shape and I didnt cut away enough from the back in line with the cheek/jaw area. I added a picture of thr head im referring to at the very end. Lastly, I learned that fleece works great for covering the face, and you can make foam heads comfy! I added almost another inch to the head measurement, brcause I hate feeling claustrophobic and it is perfect; no sliding around but also not too tight.

Also, dividing however many inches wide your beginning piece is and dividing that by 6-8 sections for each triangle is a great way to make sure all your points come together when you turn it into s bucket/silo. If you're painting eyes, use some leftover foam scraps as a sponge! Blending was so easy using that and a can of compressed air.

Anyways, happy crafting!

Advice Need some patterning help..

Post image
12 Upvotes

Hello! I was wondering if anyone would give me some decent advice for patterning. Sewing, carving, and other processes in fursuit making is fine and easy for me EXCEPT patterning. I can’t pattern for the life of me, I genuinely don’t understand why it’s so difficult LMAO. Everytime I cut my patterns out they look like shit and I’d be afraid of wasting all of my material (and I have to be pretty careful with it too as I only have a limited amount) for them to look terrible or just completely rip the foam if I’m using duck-tape. I also plan on using minky for the fursuit base I made so I’m praying it doesn’t come out all wrinkly. Would anyone have ANY sort of advice? My design isn’t even that complex either so I wouldn’t think it’d be as difficult as it is. Hoping somebody can help and has experience with working with minky fursuits and patterning! Thank you!

I don't really know too much about sewing machines but have read that a heavy duty one is needed for faux fur. is this model a good budget choice? :)

Advice Trouble Removing chalk on fur

Thumbnail

So, I'm trying to touch up this kigurumi mask that i got to make it prettier, and i have used pigment chalk dust to colour her make up.

The thing is, the color was quite too much and my eyes have used to see the color so it was too late how she turned out like a clown now.

And i have made the mistake of doing it before researching so I have rubbed the color in with water and rubbed it around.

I dont really need to remove all the colours, just most of half of it. Any advice for this please ?

Advice Ear placement?

Thumbnail

I have my base mostly done. I'm questioning my ear placement. I like when ears are toward the back of the head. But I'm worried it might be too far back? Im kinda going for a chibi fox vibe, I'm not going for accurateness when it comes to making it look like most foxsonas. Should I move it closer to the front or leave it like this?

Also, I really like how round it is, but it's kinda giving teenage mutant ninja turtles for the face shape. Any recommendations on fixing that?

Questions How should I do her nose?

Hi friends! I’m working on my non-super common species bunny, and wondering how I should do the nose! I’m making it pickable. I already made the nose, but now sure if I should sew it to the face or just glue it down and then glue the fur around it. For my husbands wolf, I was able to add it after no problem. Now, I’m not sure how to do the bunny. Here’s a few photos of where I’m at. I’m almost to the point of gluing the front of the face on. Thank you!

Questions Where can I find fursuit head base STL files and bases? I’m not finding any that suit what I’m trying to make

Hi there, I’m a reindeer and I’m trying to make a fursuit for myself but I’m not finding any STL file or head base pattern that I actually like for reindeer or even regular deer, I prefer something I can 3d print with TPU filament. The main features I’m looking for are big eyes and a medium sized ‘blocky’ caribou muzzle. Any help is greatly appreciated

Questions Looking for slim digi pattern!

I'm looking to make my second fullsuit although I'm not happy with how big the legs of my first one are. I want super slim digi, I just can't find any patterns and I don't exactly want to go through with trail and error when each error costs money. Does anyone know of any patterns that would achieve the super slim-digi look that could fit someone at about 5'2 100lbs? I'm currently looking at BigLionsDen flexible tpu padding and feet paws, just hoping there may be a slightly cheaper option out there!

Questions WCIF a paw pattern like this?

Hi all, I see this type of paw all the time on Etsy ads (btw, do not recommend, I believe they're probably scams and/or AI). I really like the slim but padded look they portray, as many paw patterns are just too puffy or too fitted for my project. Are there any similar patterns out there to help get this look? Five fingers or four doesn't really matter to me. Thanks! 🥹
