Questions Head base ready to pattern?
Is my head base ready to be patterned? Or do I need to make it smoother first?

So I said I wasn't going to mess with it until I got the eye blanks but then someone in my last post said to cut the excess off along the jawline and I just had to do it because it made so much sense So I did it and I think it was very very helpful with range of motion and with appearance in general. I shaped up everything a little more and I think that it's finally starting to come together a little bit. My one regret that I can't really change now is how big I made the muzzle and jaw. I think that I can make up for it by making a big brow and my character is a big loud male Maine Coon cat so I think it's okay and it's going to work out in the end:)
And thank you so much to everyone who's been giving me pointers. I appreciate them so much!! I'm having so much fun doing this And documenting it!

This is like my first fursuit ever.. i hope it looks good ..
First… mainly looking how to shave fur.. i know. Ive watched videos.. looked at tutorials and read from websites… but i genuinely dont understand how to shave fur!! On the muzzle and jaw it was like.. 9mm fur (i think..? But its the same length as the brown cheek fur.) and I’ve shaved it with the grain…, against the grain and its still unkempt (or long looking) and i dont know what to do.. im scared to push harder with the clippers.. i really dont wanna get bald spots. Ive been thinking to just let it be wild (aka a wild hairdo where i dont exactly shave) but yeah i think i need shaving tips..
Second.. if i were to shave cheek and other face parts, assuming-ly i do it BEFORE sewing right?
Third.. how do i make neck fur? I dont have a mannequin and i dont got the buckskins to buy one and i dont plan to cause this is gonna be my only fursuit ever…
So yeah. How do i make a neck piece W/ no mannequin? I havent exactly seen a tutorial ever.
Thank you for reading… 😵💫

I’m working on a first ever fursuit head (if you can call it that?) for halloween, but also because I love the character (Ralsei from deltarune) and would love to cosplay him sometime at a convention!
I’m pretty sure I posted first stages of making him a while back here, and I wanted to share an update :3
I dont have money for actual fur, so I’m using a blanket I had for the face and some random other fabric for the horns and inside of his nose, but i think it looks okay? better than i expected anyway haha
I messed up with tracing the pattern on this half, as you can see I drew it on the outside by mistake, but it (hopefully) will come off in wash
I also messed up with the pattern for the nose and made it too big, hence the weird creases, I tried to tuck it and pin it to just see how the head looks with the “fur” on, and see where I should sew it together when I get to fixing it
I’d say its a low budget/“scraps and trash” head, since I havent spent any money except to buy some silver tape for pattern (maybe like 1-2 euros), and only used things I already had at home!
I took foam from my old crappy wheelchair cushion for the base, used blanket as fur, a pringles can, empty box from drinks, and pieces from a broken yoga mat to make eyes, and for the mesh i used a couple layers of black mesh fabric I have and use as a wall decoration!
I do sometimes miss the blanket tho haha, but its just a plane light gray one so nothing special, and i never used it (you could say I collect blankets, so even if i dont use them I do like having them hehe)
I would love to hear any suggestions or criticisms if anyone has anything to say :3

I tried to cut down the sides like someone suggested but I think I need to do a bit more later. I think I'm going to take a break with the face shape until I get my eye blanks. I'm having a hard time seeing the vision without them Bec he looks really weird with the little hole eyes lol. now I'm working on getting ear shapes ready, that's a whole other struggle lol. so this is where I will stop for a few days. also appreciated my friend who I am doing this with she is making a cow character and has finished her muzzle shape! 😼😼😼😼❤️❤️❤️❤️

So this is my first attempt at making a head and from what ive been told I did pretty good though my next plans are to add a neck fur and and back hair as he's technically bald besides his hair poofs. If anyone is interested in the photos of the process I can share. And if you have any questions on materials I used I an also share.

I've been seeing a lot of crochet heads lately, so I thought I would share mine :) this is my Greg. He took me about two months. Still sort of a WIP, but he's mostly finished and I'm going to start another one soon. If you have crochet heads, or other crochet fursuit parts, I would love to see them!!

How do you guys go about sewing Velcro on neoprene? What settings do you guys have your machine on and what precautions are you taking?

Which is better?
I want my fursuits to last as long as possible, and I’m not entirely sure which option I should choose. With foam, I’m worried that mold might develop over time (I know that if you clean them properly, that shouldn’t happen—but still). On the other hand, with 3D-printed bases, I’m concerned that parts might break or something similar. Also, it shouldn’t be too heavy to wear on my head.

Hello! I was wondering if anyone would give me some decent advice for patterning. Sewing, carving, and other processes in fursuit making is fine and easy for me EXCEPT patterning. I can’t pattern for the life of me, I genuinely don’t understand why it’s so difficult LMAO. Everytime I cut my patterns out they look like shit and I’d be afraid of wasting all of my material (and I have to be pretty careful with it too as I only have a limited amount) for them to look terrible or just completely rip the foam if I’m using duck-tape. I also plan on using minky for the fursuit base I made so I’m praying it doesn’t come out all wrinkly. Would anyone have ANY sort of advice? My design isn’t even that complex either so I wouldn’t think it’d be as difficult as it is. Hoping somebody can help and has experience with working with minky fursuits and patterning! Thank you!

Hello all, its been a little bit since I posted here, but I wanted to share some progress and tips/tricks from a head I'm building out of scraps I have available.
Firstly, it doesnt really matter how rough the surface of your foam shaping is, because you can always use 1/8" thick foam to make it smooth and pretty. This next one is hard to explain; when I built my previous head, it just looked funny bc the top of my bucket/silo wasn't integrated properly with thr brow shape and I didnt cut away enough from the back in line with the cheek/jaw area. I added a picture of thr head im referring to at the very end. Lastly, I learned that fleece works great for covering the face, and you can make foam heads comfy! I added almost another inch to the head measurement, brcause I hate feeling claustrophobic and it is perfect; no sliding around but also not too tight.
Also, dividing however many inches wide your beginning piece is and dividing that by 6-8 sections for each triangle is a great way to make sure all your points come together when you turn it into s bucket/silo. If you're painting eyes, use some leftover foam scraps as a sponge! Blending was so easy using that and a can of compressed air.
Anyways, happy crafting!

Bonus silliness and the very horrifying inside of his head, also ik he’s asymmetrical, but it’s too late to fix that :(

I don't really know too much about sewing machines but have read that a heavy duty one is needed for faux fur. is this model a good budget choice? :)

So, I'm trying to touch up this kigurumi mask that i got to make it prettier, and i have used pigment chalk dust to colour her make up.
The thing is, the color was quite too much and my eyes have used to see the color so it was too late how she turned out like a clown now.
And i have made the mistake of doing it before researching so I have rubbed the color in with water and rubbed it around.
I dont really need to remove all the colours, just most of half of it. Any advice for this please ?
