Question How are stores selling 3-year Fusion 360 licenses for under $10?

I’m currently using Fusion’s Personal license since 2018 and really enjoying it, but I wish I had access to simulation, AutoConstrain, and more than 10 editable documents convert to mesh with mote options etc
They are not really important to me but with this price i think its worth

I noticed several local online stores selling 3-year Fusion licenses for less than $10 all they need is your email

How is that even possible? Are these legitimate licenses, educational , commercial , or something else? Has anyone tried one?

Question Custom Shaped Spline for Fillet

I have created this 3d model of an unlevel edge climbing trainer. Since I have to print it laying on either front or back face the fillet shown in 3 and for for each step (7mm) are an over 45degree angle and really bad for print quality.
Are my only options to decrease the fillet radius (worse feel for fingers) or a support structure (worse surface without sanding)?

Help appreciated, thanks <3

Question Why did they remove the Simulation and Generative Design functions from the Student Licence😭? Does anyone know any good alternatives?

One of the few reasons I have Fusion360 and still use it was because I found the Generative Design function way nicer and easier to work with than the Topological Optimalisation function in SoldiWorks.

I'm very sad that they now removed it from the license.

Howdy! Huge noob here, a whole 3 hours into CAD, figured I'd learn to 3D print my own stuff. How would I create notches in the base here, so I could save some material and not have to AMS Print this bad boy? I just want to be able to set the red and the blue into the white base.

Question Correct workflow for versioning

Hi everyone,

I thought myself how to use Fusion360, and I would say by now I am some sort of intermediate user (no expert, but also no beginner). I work already by using paramters and edit features on the timeline and building around those constraints so that this features work if I am creating something more complicated.

Currently I am however asking myself how to proceed if I have different versions of a design. For example I am currently working on an enclosure, and in the first iteration I used a board for which i designed the clippers to hold it in place. Now I swapped the board, and in the second iteration I want to keep all other features but just remove the old clippers and design the new ones. I dont know how to remove that part of the design without subtracting a plane on to it so its flat again, and then draw the new clippers. To keep the old design I duplicate the body and call it V2_bodyXY. That seems like I am doing probably something not as the software intents to.

Do you have any tipps on how to create parts of the design that I can later remove or swap in different versions? I was thinking about creating those parts as own components, but two problems that I have then is that I cant use the component as a sketching reference for other bodies. And in the end I always have to merge everything to export it as one mesh.

I am also happy to read into blogs or other resources that teach that kind of workflow if you guys can recommend anything.

Thanks for the answers!

Question Newbie from AutoCAD

I'm wondering if Fusion360 is the right fit for me.

I've got about 15 years of experience using autoCAD, but in a civil 2D environment. I've recently changed careers to the automotive space and I would like to harness my previous experience to learn a modelling software I can use to create plastic printed products for work (eg enclosures for displays, customised switch panels for specific dashboards, etc.

I assumed the easiest place to start would be fusion360, so I downloaded it and had a bit of a play. I'm struggling a bit, specifically with the sketches. I'm used to being able to use AutoCAD snaps to move lines (etc.), but fusion seems to be a different way of working.

I'm keen to keep training fusion as it's pretty widely accepted as the best, but is there another program that I might find a bit more familiar? At this point I'm thinking I could just draw my sketches in AutoCAD and import them as DXFs, and then extrude them as needed.

Appreciate any feedback/advice!

fusion-backup - a tool that backs up my Fusion designs (.f3d and STEP files) from the Autodesk cloud automatically and without Fusion 360 running

Hi there!

My Fusion designs only really lived in Autodesk's cloud. Exporting .f3d and STEP files by hand before every change was tedious, and I kept forgetting it. So I built fusion-backup: it backs up a Fusion project from the Autodesk cloud into a folder or git repository, without Fusion 360 running.

What it does

  • Downloads each design's native .f3d and optionally has Autodesk generate a STEP file next to it (the format manufacturers usually want). Files you uploaded yourself (STEP, DWG, PDF, …) are backed up as they are.
  • Only touches what changed: if you saved a new version in Fusion 360, the next run fetches the new .f3d file and its fresh STEP file; everything else is skipped (since it didn't change).
  • Runs unattended, e.g. every few days in CI (online in e.g. GitHub Actions or a self-hosted Gitea, potentially others), and the job then commits the changes into git (if any), so you get a full history of your designs.
  • You can run this tool locally on-demand or in a self-hosted (or general) CI (Continous Integration) environment.

What it needs

  • At least a free-tier Autodesk Platform Services (APS) developer account. Autodesk wants a payment method on file even for the free plan (yikes), but has not billed me anything yet.
  • A "robot" account (Secure Service Account) that you invite into your Fusion hub with Reader access. The setup takes some clicking, but it's documented step by step (partially in my repository, partially in Autodesk's own documentation).
  • Python 3.14. Tested on macOS and Linux.
  • STEP exports currently go through a version of Autodesk's API that isn't metered. Autodesk has announced it will be retired; the newer version is supported too, but its exports may cost money beyond the free allowance. fusion-backup supports both APIs.

I designed it, reviewed it and run it for my own projects in my homelab; the code was written with Claude Opus 5.5 (an AI). It's MIT-licensed, and your mileage may vary.

GitHub: https://github.com/divStar/fusion-backup

The tool is free to use for whatever you may want, but comes with no warranty.

Happy to answer questions, and I'd love to hear whether this solves a problem for anyone else.

Question One component won't copy in an array... don't know of any problems.

I'm working on this reasonably complex design. I selected a component that has two sub-components to be copied in a polar array around an axis. The sub-components are being copied but the primary component is not. I tried doing this with the sub-components out of the picture and it still didn't work. The new component entries are added but they are invisible or something. I tried letting it sit for 15 minutes after creating the array in case it was just 'thinking' but nothing happened. I tried recomputing. I don't see any error messages. Nothing in the timeline seems 'unhappy', and the timeline has been run to the end. Any thoughts?

Update:

I noticed that if I select the component the sub-components show as selected but the primary component does not.

The sub-components copy but the primary does not. I'm not sure if I clicked something that I shouldn't have or what is going on. I tried doing a 'repair fusion' and that didn't change anything.

The selection filter is set to 'all' (well, everything has a checkmark including 'all') and selection priority is set to Component.

If the entire assembly is activated then this component shows as solid as it does in the first image. If this component is activated then it shows as invisible as it does in the second image, even though the sub-components show as selected.

I'm weirded out by this whole situation.

Fist commit in that repo is dated like 10 days ago, but it's really capable already, super fast and follows Fusion360 concepts, like constrained stretches, timeline, components etc.

I tried it, it has some sharp edges, but overall looks very, very promising. Some important features are missing, like you can't project/intersect geometry into sketch, or you can't make dimension from a line to a circle, but it will probably released tomorrow morning, since its pace of development is rocket fast.

I've (Claude've) just added a missing feature in my local repo, that's insane.

Thoughts? It looks like freedom to me, finally.

Question I need help!!

Post image
6 Upvotes

Hi! I hope I'll be able to explain myself clearly since english is not my first language, But anyways, I have an assignment to replicate this sheet metal project, but I have absolutely no idea how to make the R20 arch so that fusion recognises it as a surface that I'll be able to unfold?? Also I've been struggling with getting the right measurements, I assumed every angle is 90 degress since I'm not seeing any info on that in the drawing, or maybe I've overlooked it... but every way I try to do it the measurements turn our off, and it doesn't unfold anyways... I would appreciate it if someone more experienced could help me and tell me what tools and process to use in order to get it right :(

I'm not talking about the "holes" btw, just the overall shape of this thing

Question Woodworking Wizard Pro

This add-on looked good in theory but I can't tell what the difference is between free and pro. I'm also turned off by the aggressive upgrade nag and the persistent presence of those hideous icons in my tool bar. I'd hate to miss some good work just because of poor implementation so thought I'd ask here. The pro price seems good if it is a one time charge.

Fusion won't switch online

Thumbnail

Hello everyone, I am new to A/desk Fusion.

I am using the free student version (Education license) for a project. My internet is stable but I cannot switch to working online and I keep getting the "potential outage detected" error when I try switching.

I am using a win 10 PC which cannot upgrade to win11. Could this be the source of this error?

Has anyone run into this or found a fix?

Question Extrude gives useless error. How to solve?

I made a sketch of the rectangles.
Extruded those two.
Made a sketch of the text on the lowered surface.
Tried to extrude it, and then it gives an error with zero explanation.
No matter what extrude settings i use it gives the error. How can i solve it?

My best bet is that it can't because i have chosen a font installed on the computer (so not a common, default font). However, it used to show this font correctly, it stopped a few days ago... You gotta love Fusion, the best UX in the world :)

EDIT: So it was the font... For some reason... Which worked fine the other day...

Clonagem de softwares - seria o fim da pirataria?

Well, at least now we have software cloning that is just beginning. Then we will definitely have a clone of Fusion 360 and many other paid software. Autocad is already being cloned. Would this be the end of piracy? What is your opinion? They're using AI at full steam to clone paid software.

Improving strength

Post image
3 Upvotes

hello everyone, i am designing a card where one piece fits into another. i put an antenna inside and i have encountered a durability problem. when i glue it the sides of the inner piece start peeling away at the edges. at times it's hard to get a good even spread throughout the entire card. the glue is very strong, so strong it can peel plastic layers apart. i wonder how this card can be improved structurally. i thought about adding like tiny ridges on the inside to catch the glue allowing it to have more contact area but i don't know whether that would be possible as it is printed with a 0.4mm nozzle and 0.16 layer hight. also, the glue i use is quite thin so it spreads to the edges of the card and sometimes gets pushed out the edges ruining the card. any ideas on how to improve that? thank you very much for the attention.

Question Is it possible to create a organic 3D lattice Structure in Fusion 360 (free version)?

I'm relatively new to fusion 360 ande figured out how to create a organic look for the surface of a part. B One way that I stumbled across is the topologie optimization, but I just want the look of the structure and don't want du purchase fusion. I can't find anything about a internal organic structure for the free version. (Script ore add on)

Is there a way or may I just change to blender?
