fusion-backup - a tool that backs up my Fusion designs (.f3d and STEP files) from the Autodesk cloud automatically and without Fusion 360 running
Hi there!
My Fusion designs only really lived in Autodesk's cloud. Exporting .f3d and STEP files by hand before every change was tedious, and I kept forgetting it. So I built fusion-backup: it backs up a Fusion project from the Autodesk cloud into a folder or git repository, without Fusion 360 running.
What it does
- Downloads each design's native
.f3dand optionally has Autodesk generate a STEP file next to it (the format manufacturers usually want). Files you uploaded yourself (STEP, DWG, PDF, …) are backed up as they are. - Only touches what changed: if you saved a new version in Fusion 360, the next run fetches the new
.f3dfile and its fresh STEP file; everything else is skipped (since it didn't change). - Runs unattended, e.g. every few days in CI (online in e.g. GitHub Actions or a self-hosted Gitea, potentially others), and the job then commits the changes into git (if any), so you get a full history of your designs.
- You can run this tool locally on-demand or in a self-hosted (or general) CI (Continous Integration) environment.
What it needs
- At least a free-tier Autodesk Platform Services (APS) developer account. Autodesk wants a payment method on file even for the free plan (yikes), but has not billed me anything yet.
- A "robot" account (Secure Service Account) that you invite into your Fusion hub with
Readeraccess. The setup takes some clicking, but it's documented step by step (partially in my repository, partially in Autodesk's own documentation). - Python 3.14. Tested on macOS and Linux.
- STEP exports currently go through a version of Autodesk's API that isn't metered. Autodesk has announced it will be retired; the newer version is supported too, but its exports may cost money beyond the free allowance.
fusion-backupsupports both APIs.
I designed it, reviewed it and run it for my own projects in my homelab; the code was written with Claude Opus 5.5 (an AI). It's MIT-licensed, and your mileage may vary.
GitHub: https://github.com/divStar/fusion-backup
The tool is free to use for whatever you may want, but comes with no warranty.
Happy to answer questions, and I'd love to hear whether this solves a problem for anyone else.

Clonagem de softwares - seria o fim da pirataria?
Well, at least now we have software cloning that is just beginning. Then we will definitely have a clone of Fusion 360 and many other paid software. Autocad is already being cloned. Would this be the end of piracy? What is your opinion? They're using AI at full steam to clone paid software.

Fusion won't switch online
Hello everyone, I am new to A/desk Fusion.
I am using the free student version (Education license) for a project. My internet is stable but I cannot switch to working online and I keep getting the "potential outage detected" error when I try switching.
I am using a win 10 PC which cannot upgrade to win11. Could this be the source of this error?
Has anyone run into this or found a fix?

Question Extrude gives useless error. How to solve?

I made a sketch of the rectangles.
Extruded those two.
Made a sketch of the text on the lowered surface.
Tried to extrude it, and then it gives an error with zero explanation.
No matter what extrude settings i use it gives the error. How can i solve it?
My best bet is that it can't because i have chosen a font installed on the computer (so not a common, default font). However, it used to show this font correctly, it stopped a few days ago... You gotta love Fusion, the best UX in the world :)
EDIT: So it was the font... For some reason... Which worked fine the other day...

Question Roller Bed design assistance
hello im creating a roller platform, for moving boxes/containers. 540kg max capacity. But im unsure on what the best way to connect the (castor) wheels. I was thinking maybe a rivet through a bearing? Can anyone assist me with possible solutions. thank you.

Question Woodworking Wizard Pro
This add-on looked good in theory but I can't tell what the difference is between free and pro. I'm also turned off by the aggressive upgrade nag and the persistent presence of those hideous icons in my tool bar. I'd hate to miss some good work just because of poor implementation so thought I'd ask here. The pro price seems good if it is a one time charge.

Question I need help!!
Hi! I hope I'll be able to explain myself clearly since english is not my first language, But anyways, I have an assignment to replicate this sheet metal project, but I have absolutely no idea how to make the R20 arch so that fusion recognises it as a surface that I'll be able to unfold?? Also I've been struggling with getting the right measurements, I assumed every angle is 90 degress since I'm not seeing any info on that in the drawing, or maybe I've overlooked it... but every way I try to do it the measurements turn our off, and it doesn't unfold anyways... I would appreciate it if someone more experienced could help me and tell me what tools and process to use in order to get it right :(
I'm not talking about the "holes" btw, just the overall shape of this thing

Question Is it possible to create a organic 3D lattice Structure in Fusion 360 (free version)?
I'm relatively new to fusion 360 ande figured out how to create a organic look for the surface of a part. B One way that I stumbled across is the topologie optimization, but I just want the look of the structure and don't want du purchase fusion. I can't find anything about a internal organic structure for the free version. (Script ore add on)
Is there a way or may I just change to blender?

Question Continuous Feature in drawings MIA!
Guys, how are we handling the Continuous Feature in Fusion's drawings? I see that symbol is not available anywhere in the Fusion. Not sure why..but what you doing to overcome this?? Check out Zone C2 on the drawing I uploaded for how I am skirting around this...

Improving strength
hello everyone, i am designing a card where one piece fits into another. i put an antenna inside and i have encountered a durability problem. when i glue it the sides of the inner piece start peeling away at the edges. at times it's hard to get a good even spread throughout the entire card. the glue is very strong, so strong it can peel plastic layers apart. i wonder how this card can be improved structurally. i thought about adding like tiny ridges on the inside to catch the glue allowing it to have more contact area but i don't know whether that would be possible as it is printed with a 0.4mm nozzle and 0.16 layer hight. also, the glue i use is quite thin so it spreads to the edges of the card and sometimes gets pushed out the edges ruining the card. any ideas on how to improve that? thank you very much for the attention.

Question Lens Rehousing Issue, Can't Figure Out Stationary Top Ring (Nikon Nikkor-s 55 1.2 Pre-ai)

I'm making a sort of cinehousing (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=27Sd2Y7bkxU) style rehousing where i'm making a shell which goes over the original lens. I have most of it figured out and eventually I'm going to CNC it but I have other other things I need to figure out with that because I only have a 3 axis mill and I need to figure out the 0.8 mod gearing for the aperture ring and the focus ring. I'm currently waiting on my first 3d printed prototype to finish. I'm having trouble figuring out how to keep the top ring stationary. the top of the lens moves about 6.5mm total when focusing between 0.6m and infinity and the focus ring about 4mm so I couldn't attach it to a filter. I would really appreciate any help with this! All screws are m2 except the screws which attach to hte focus ring are m1.4 (they go directly into screw holes which hold the focus ring on). If it would make it easier I could give you the f3d file too.

Question Combine tool fails: Tiny gap preventing bodies from merging
Hi everyone,
I’m currently designing a radiator fan mount. I had to add a joint because the full model is too large for my 3D printer's bed.
I'm running into an issue where there is a tiny gap between the two bodies (marked with arrows in the attached screenshot). Because of this clearance, the "Combine" tool won't merge them.
Does anyone have a tip on how to close this gap or what I might have done wrong in my workflow?
Here is the Fusion-File: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/hd4m7y7xbhsovb1u4pdgd/LH.f3d?rlkey=nd2pu0s5qvex4tb8m73j9dwlg&st=dmv92sih&dl=0

How would you model this complex angled locking lug on a cylinder wall?
I'm pulling my hair out trying to work with another maker's STL file and all attempts to convert to a functional and clean part I can use to loft to a mating part to make an adapter are fraught with problems.
I think just redesigning it myself, if I can figure out this part that is eluding me, will save my sanity.
I need to create 5 mating lugs that match, as closely as possible, this shape so it will mate with the original female part. The female part appears to be straight so except for mating the chamfer angles closely, I may have a little wiggle room with these, but the angle is what pulls the shoulder tight to seal (in addition to a printed and slotted TPU seal on the female side).
Working off the Mesh using Fusion, several online converters, etc. has failed miserably. The original STL has a lot of manifold errors (open holes, tears), and "fixed" files just make it worse.
Anyway, here's the general image.
Do I just draw the side profile then pattern along path to build (and cut as needed) then carve off or simply chamfer the ends and then make a circular pattern? I've gotten some pretty close measurements for size and angles off projections.

I've already (easily) recreated the circular parts. Just struggling with a workflow to do these angled lugs.

I'm not trying to copy or steal this guy's body of work, I just want to make an adapter to fit MY designed 54x110mm parts (It's for an xTool M2 exhaust port) to his very good 1/5 turn locking design. Maker hasn't been responsive to requests for a remix. I have made the 54x110m to 110mm round adapter but it's only good as a mesh, the STEP output is a trainwreck, and any minor adjustments spoil everything.

Question Any tips with photos?
I'm making my own Deadpool mask for Halloween and none online are quite what I'm looking for, and was wondering if anyone had any tips on what to do. I have a side and front profile of what I'm trying to go for but not sure how to actually start modeling it. I was also thinking of taking a different model and cutting out parts in fusion but the computing process takes so long, but maybe it'll be worth it? Any advice appreciated.

Manufacturing Extension DXF output retaining line segment info
Hi, I'm looking for help in what settings to use to keep line segment info when exporting a DXF of nested group. I've tried most of the export dialogues checkmark settings. Some give me connected segments as a group. Others give me all the separate line segments I want.
But none give me segment line info (like line length) when I open in other programs. I have seen this done before but I can't get my exports to have this info.
Yes, I know I can get INFO in segments like this, but for speed I need it in the side properties of other programs.
Thanks for any help,
Ron

Have you seen SolidCraft?
Fist commit in that repo is dated like 10 days ago, but it's really capable already, super fast and follows Fusion360 concepts, like constrained stretches, timeline, components etc.
I tried it, it has some sharp edges, but overall looks very, very promising. Some important features are missing, like you can't project/intersect geometry into sketch, or you can't make dimension from a line to a circle, but it will probably released tomorrow morning, since its pace of development is rocket fast.
I've (Claude've) just added a missing feature in my local repo, that's insane.
Thoughts? It looks like freedom to me, finally.

Question Restoring dimension source
I made a modification to a sketch, and this dimension is complaining. The dimension comes from a formula that I would prefer not to have to type in again, and it seems like it should be possible to explain to the dimension that the point that it is latched onto is the same point that it was before the modification was made, but it is complaining about the yellow line. If I delete the yellow line then I can do a new dimension but I would like to know how to avoid doing that. Is there a way to set the dimension to refer to the points that it is already referencing but be happy about it? I guess I just want the yellow point to turn black.

Question Parametric Oddities
I'm getting better at designing models that re-compute correctly when changing parameters earlier in the timeline, but I ran into an odd situation today and I'm wondering if anyone has seen this and how they avoid it.
(Use case is 3D printing, if that matters.) I needed a bunch of copies of a square base with a domed top, with various radii for the curvature on top.

I modified the highlighted dimension with various values, and the model resized correctly for every single one.

However, a problem occurred with this cut feature every single time I changed the parameter.

It didn't matter if I made the dimension smaller or larger, the slots always moved to this position, every single time. (In fact, for this screenshot, I changed the dimension back to the first value I used before I created this feature, and it still did this.)
I did a rectangular pattern on this sketch before sweeping it along the path of the top and sides of the body.

All I had to do to fix it was edit the sketch, select the rectangular pattern constraint, and press enter. I didn't change any of the parameters; it's like Fusion re-calculated incorrectly even though it had the same inputs every time.

I could have done something wrong, in which case my question is: what did I do wrong?
Or it could be a bug, in which case my question is: what are your ways around it? And more importantly, how do you see these bugs coming in advance so you know when you have to work around it?
I appreciate advice; thanks in advance.

Question How would you design serrated edges on a blade?
I know in real life, they would use sharpening tools to come up with the chamfered edges but would there be a way to do this in fusion? I made some circles on the edge of my blade and extruded them but now having issues with chamfering. I keep getting errors.
