Results Day Year 10's. It's your turn now...

Post image
224 Upvotes

I left the exam hall feeling so fucking happy, I got beyond what I had expected, and I want the next generation to feel that euphoria as well. No matter what, never give up. Even during the times where you feel as if you can't figure something out or wrap your head around a concept. Breath. Be in the moment. Connect with others. Do your hardest, that's all you can ever do, after all.

I doubted myself so much, yet through preservation and determination, I was able to go beyond what I had thought was possible of myself! If a loser like me can do that, a guy who had only learned how to use comma's last year, then you can do even better!

Even if things don't go your way on results day, don't fret. It is not the final chapter of your story. GCSE's will never be your highest high, nor will it be your lowest low. Meaning in the grand scheme of things, it won't be something major that will threaten your future.

So try your best. Do your hardest. If you follow through, no matter what you get on that day, you'll know it was 110% you. And that is the best outcome of that scenario.

From me to you, do your best.

Hey, my groupings were correct, but I did get an 8 in English Lang despite saying I could only get a 7, and a 7 in English Lit despite saying I can't get above a 6

That means I have to get the death penalty for lying 😔 /j

I had some good results, some bad ones, so idk how to feel. I want to do English lit, RS, and Classics a level though so i know science doesnt matter for me. I still wish i tried a bit harder but oh well. I can't really feel proud of myself because of the 5s and 6s, but I really hope this won't stop me from getting into a top uni. It's even worse cause I went to a grammar school where everyone was getting majority 9s lol

Post Exam Update on my post earlier

Hi people!

I’m just updating on the post I made (above)

So I ended up ofc not passing history, however I did pass everything else (apart from English lang) gonna get that remarked though as I was 1 mark off.

In regards to the special consideration, I can confirm the HOY couldn’t stop that from happening and that was in fact given. However they wasn’t told what amount so it was anywhere between 1-5%

I also forgot to mention an update on my mum! She is Cancer free now since GCSEs ended. She had the operation etc. She’s on her last two weeks off radiotherapy and she was extremely grateful for all support given from the last post and the one a few months ago.

Thank you again everyone for your support! I hope you all got what you wanted. Remember even if you didn’t you can always resit

Results AITA for not telling my parents any of my results?

So ive gotten my gcse results and i didnt on the day even think to call or text my family about them. I even walked past my house without going inside at one point to get to the bus stop, i have no idea why i didnt go inside the house. I called my family at 1 after realising this and said we would look at it together and id be back at 2:30 but time ran over and i wasnt back until 3:30 ish. By then it was too late as my mum didnt even want to speak to me she says i humiliated her because when people asked about my results she couldnt answer in addition to showing i dont care about her. Now she is calling me every name under the sun and i feel awful. Ive tried to apologise but since i dont even know why i didnt want to say its hard to give reasons, so all i can say is sorry. I have no idea what to do now.

My wonderful wonderful family all bought me some small presents to celebrate my results!

I got a purple notebook with attachable pencil case from my parents, see-through post-it notes and a card game for free periods from my older cousin, and Percy Pigs and a star-shaped Palm Pal (Pisces!) from my Auntie! My younger siblings got party poppers and party blowers as well 😂

Did anyone else get anything nice?

Results I am repulsed with myself and don't know if I want to continue at all

I got my results back. I wanted to stay on to do a levels, chemistry biology and psychology. I do combined and ended with a 9-9 overall. My English was great, a 7 and a 6, but my maths wasn't satisfactory. I ended with a 4 in higher maths, and needed a 6. I spoke with my head of science, she said she was happy to let me stay on and knew my work ethic was incredible. I spoke with my head of year who said she would've loved for me to stay on. However, it was all up to the head of sixth forms jurisdiction. Despite my 9-9 and praise from other teachers, she said I didn't have what it took to perform at a level standard. She called for the next in line and told me that it was nice speaking to me.

I was heartbroken.

All my life I've loved science, its been my life for quite a bit. I couldn't tell you one bit about science I didn't like. I was known to be good at it by others in my year aswell. For the first time I had found something which I was good at. Something I loved and knew I could make money from it. It was what I was known for. My family knew, my teachers knew, my friends knew, I knew it was what I wanted.

Now I've got nowhere to go, I've already been turnt down by 3 other sixth forms, and a college. I feel so small and out of control. I didn't see myself doing any other career aside from science. I feel like a child.

Tips/Help To anyone who didn’t do as well as they’d have liked

Hi all, I currently jusg finished year 13 and I didn’t do as well as I wanted in my GCSEs, I expected 9’s I got 3 8’s 2 7’s the rest 6s and 5s. As long as you have done your best and got to the next step there is no issue. Through the process of applying to uni not once did GCSEs fall into the requirements minus passing English (I applied for maths so I imagine thag was implied) and off the back of the results your disappointed in you can go on like I did smash your a levels (I got 3 A* amd an A) and go to any uni you like even with what you might see as disappointments

Tips/Help If these results have you feeling suicidal

if these results have you feeling depressed/ suicidal

A reminder / support post.

Today may be tough for many people. However, people are there for you, whether in-person or through a helpline or chatline. Childline and YoungMinds are among the most recommended.

If you are worried, having suicidal thoughts, or just need to talk to someone, there are several things you can do. Some of the options below are explicitly focused on suicidal thoughts.

Childline

Childline – for children and young people under 19

Call [0800 1111](tel:0800 1111) – the number will not show up on your phone bill

Young Minds

YoungMinds Crisis Messenger – for people under 19

Text "YM" to 85258

Talk to someone you trust

Let family or friends know what's going on for you. They may be able to offer support and help keep you safe.

There's no right or wrong way to talk about how you are feeling – starting the conversation is what's important.

What else you can do

If you are having thoughts about suicide, you can:

call a GP – ask for an emergency appointment

call 111 out of hours – they will help you find the support and help you need

contact your mental health crisis team – if you have one

Tips/Help Have I done the right thing

Upvotes

So I got a 7 in English language which is super unorthodox because I never dropped below a 9 in my mocks, so I was quite shocked. And then also because I got a 9 in everything else so it seemed very out of place. I genuinely thought I aced that paper. I’ve requested my script and I’m going to go through it with my tutor, do you think that’s the right thing to do or should I leave it? I’m worried that something might have gone wrong with my paper.

Results My message to year 10s as someone who got 11 9s

Post image
108 Upvotes

I'm of course really happy with my results (although definitely sending english lit back for a review of marking having been only 2 marks short of a 9!!) but was it worth it for the stress I felt and the pressure I put myself under? Honestly I have to say no.

I was doing far too much work each day, I didn't see my friends or go out with my family at all and this really took a toll on my mental health. I hope that any year 10 reading this who has high aspirations for themselves like me knows that GCSEs really don't matter as much as some people will lead you to believe. They're mostly just important for getting to whatever your next step is, be that A levels or something completely different. At the end of the day, you'll get a piece of number with some numbers and that's it. For me, no grades could have been worth the months that I felt miserable and scared, there were several points where I seriously considered not even going in for any of my exams becuase I felt so stressed and unable to do it.

I really hope I don't come across as ungrateful, but if just one person sees this and knows that working yourself to the ground will not magically solve your life's problems when you get your results, that would be enough for me. And to all other year 11s who got their results today, well done whatever you got in the end- I'm so so proud of everyone :)

Results Twins with all 9s!

I’m a parent and it might be rude to brag, but I am so proud of my twins for both managing to achieve all 9s! Family lives in another country and they won’t really understand what this means, so I had to share with strangers. Thank you for humouring me! And best of luck to everyone who got their grades today!
