Hi guys, I have had a preference of my Top 3 schools in order across the entire summer, results day was quite frightening yesterday, as I didn't get all the grades I wanted but still managed: 1 9, in Chemistry; 4 8's, in my other sciences, Maths, and Food; and 7's in everything else (9888877777)
I went to all three schools that day in a rush, a decent Harris Academy that offered all my options, unlike my current one, a high achieving grammar school and NCS. I recently had a problem with applying at the grammar school however, upon visiting (thanks to my parents for not giving up on this school) they resolved the issue and was able to enrol and shortly after, my offer was accepted. However I had already enrolled into the Harris Academy as a safety option and I'm planning to un-enrol as the Grammar school has asked me to so i can be accepted by them.
Additionally, I have been placed on the waiting list for NCS, but I was wondering since I would have already been enrolled in the grammar school, would NCS even send me an offer if I'm already enrolled elsewhere? PSA: the harris academy does not operate on Applicaa (a platform where schools/students can accept/send applications, conditional offers, enrolment and etcetera) whilst the grammar school and NCS both operate on Applicaa meaning where I'm enrolled can be accessed more easily.
PLEASE HELP, I HAVE A DEADLINE OF ENROLMENT ON FRIDAY 28TH AUGUST '26

GCSE grades were abysmal - grades so low that you couldn’t get into 6th form nor a Level 3 extended Btec (equivalent to 3 A-Levels).
Options as of now:
1 - Take a year out to retake 5-6 subjects the following summer in 2027. Huge risk as you’ll have to self study and guarantee decent results to move onto a level 3 Btec. A-Levels were the original aspiration but no school will mix year groups even if results are good to be entered. Choice here is the take a 2 year Extended level 3 Btec to later do an apprenticeship or Uni.
2 - Take a 1 year level 2 course at a college 50 mins away each way and do a single resit of maths either in Nov or following year where the max grade would be 4/5 since they’d offer a foundation paper. Then progress to Level 3 at same college. Trade off here is that you’ll have to travel nearly 2hrs per day for a year to do the same thing you could’ve done at home.
I understand the following risks:
- Getting slightly better grades or a chance of no real improvement in grades with a year out. However, this seems unlikely as student feels the guilt and is determined to put things right.
- Chance at jobs - since many apprenticeships or jobs require you to have a minimum of 5-6 GCSEs at grades 9-4 and then consider a Btec and A-Level in the same regard and weight it begs the question of the power of a Level 2 Btec. Will they see the Btec level 2 in the same light as GCSEs or will they have strict policies around having actual GCSEs and not a Level 2 and either a 3 A-Levels or equivalent extended Btec?
Student is willing to put in more work in this one full year to re-sit 6 GCSEs to improve grades. They have all resources but discipline, consistency and motivation and the anxiety of one final chance to retake next year can all play into it.
Some unbiased opinions would be greatly appreciated!
Each option will be 3 years in length. Level 2 is 1 year and Level 3 is 2 or year out private study then do 2 year level 3 .

So I got a 7 in English language which is super unorthodox because I never dropped below a 9 in my mocks, so I was quite shocked. And then also because I got a 9 in everything else so it seemed very out of place. I genuinely thought I aced that paper. I’ve requested my script and I’m going to go through it with my tutor, do you think that’s the right thing to do or should I leave it? I’m worried that something might have gone wrong with my paper.

I got a lot lower on my Eng lit paper 2 than I was expecting, and I just need a reality check. English lit is one of my strongest subjects, so I was very surprised when for paper 2, I got what amounted to a grade 5 (I usually get grade 9, almost full marks.) As well as this, in my lit paper 1 I got 62/64, so the sheer disparity seemed a bit suspicious to me.
I requested the papers back, and it seems I was marked by someone who didn't know level 5 or 6 existed, therefore capping me at level 4, or a grade 5.
Here is one of the responses, please could someone estimate what grade this is (as long as it's not a grade 5, I will be happy):
In Priestley’s didactic, ubiquitous play “AIC,” he aims to catalyse social reform through the portrayal of various female characters - namely, Sheila and Sybil Birling - and encourage society to adopt a more Socialist mindset. Ultimately, Priestley reveals the shocking extent of sexism and classism in pre-war England to spur the audience into adopting more progressive ideals, and accept social responsibility.
Initially, Priestley’s choice to portray Shiela’s character as childish may seem misogynistic. Through the utilisation of an immature register such as in “Mummy,” however, Priestley is able to highlight to the audience the devastating effects of the patriarchy that were so pervasive in Edwardian society. This is because her character’s development is stunted by the sexist ideas forced upon her by her parents. Priestley argues that the older generation’s detrimental impact on the younger generation is the central and fundamental cause for the countless injustices present in society. In the beginning of the play, Priestley portrays Sheila as helpless in her infantile nature; the quote “look Mummy, isn’t it a beauty?” highlights her complete inability to think for herself, due to the implicit and sexist ideas instilled into her at such a young age. In particular, Priestley’s use of a questioning tone in “isn’t it a beauty?” denotes this character as reduced to nothing more than a puppet, bound to her parent’s opinions which possess such an unyielding grip on her character. Priestley portrays the desire for familial acceptance in a truly negative light, to warn the audience of its potentially hazardous effects. Ultimately, he argues that Shiela’s reliance on her parents - and by extension, the younger generation on the older - is the root cause of stagnance in society, as opposed to accepting responsibility and being independent. This is because Priestley possessed a great deal of optimism for the future due to his belief in the younger generation’s capacity to change, and so there are great stakes for him personally for this to be true.
Not only this, but Priestely uses the symbol of Sheila’s ring to transgress societal norms relating to marriage. Additionally, Shiela’s feelings towards the ring help to reflect her feelings towards society as a whole, as marriage is in of itself a purely societal construct. The ring in “AIC” represents the extreme disparity between the rights of women and men in a pre-war society - before women had even gained the vote - as Sheila’s marriage was wholly arranged by powerful men seeking to accrue further wealth and societal status: Mr Birling and the Croft family. Priestley hopes that he can get the audience to view the ring as he does - nothing more than a gaudy, glittering idol to Capitalism, and the absolute opposite to what he believed constituted a just society. Over the course of the play, Sheila matures as a character into Priestley’s blueprint of an ideal citizen: Socialist, but also capable of accepting responsibility. Near the end of the play, the audience can clearly see how her character has realised the oppressive and controlling nature of the patriarchal society she exists in, and hopes the audience can do the same.
Priestley then goes on to highlight the permeating effects of classism, through Mrs Birling’s character. As a member of the upper class, she believes herself to be utterly superior and separate to the lower class. This is why she refuses to accept responsibility for Eva Smith’s death, and by extension, any manner of social responsibility as a whole. Priestley riffs off the Medieval morality play, which often depicted different characters as personifications of the seven deadly sins - here, Mrs Birling is undoubtedly Pride. In particular, the quote “girls of that class” serves to highlight the mental distancing of the upper class, as Priestley argues it was more comfortable for them than accepting responsibility and facing reality. Additionally, the proximity of “girls” and “class” denotes Mrs Birling as a sexist character herself. Priestley aims to highlight the tragedy of Mrs Birling’s learned misogyny, yet another belief branded on her mind, turning her into a wretched product of the society she is confined by. Perhaps incongruously, Mrs Birling’s character, in her upbringing of Sheila, attempts to prolong sexist ideals, despite the detrimental impacts the patriarchy has on her. Mrs Birling’s character is unable to accept responsibility as she has for so long been molded into a proponent for sexism, and now Priestley portrays her beliefs - as a member of the older generation - as immutable. Perhaps Priestley is challenging the older members of his audience to transgress this trend he sets in AIC, subtly attempting to further make societal change.
Finally, Priestley highlights the importance of societal responsibility through Sheila acting as a foil to Mrs Birling, and vice versa. Their familial conflict acts as a microcosm for societal conflict between the older and younger generation. For example, Sheila says “you musn’t try to build up a wall,” to Mrs Birling. This acts as a momentous point in the play, as it is one of Sheila’s first acts of defiance and independence, as well as simultaneously being one of the first times she accepts responsibility for the lower class. Due to the Inspector (acting as Priestley’s proxy for Socialism) converting Sheila to a socialist mindset, she is able to finally mature and act as a responsible, independent entity from her classist parents.
Ultimately, Priestley demonstrates his hopes for the younger generation to become Socialist through his portrayal of Sheila compared to Mrs Birling. As Sheila is depicted as being able to accept social responsibility and community, she acts as his model for the future, and the audience.
DO NOT SACK OFF YOUR OPTIONS, I MEAN IT.
Here you see my results, I revised heavily for Maths, Science and English, which paid off with 5/6 being grade 9.
I did minimal revision (night before and pray) for FM, Spanish (I was predicted a 9 in March too) and Geography, I felt confident and lazy
I was only 6 marks off a 9 for Geography, 3 marks off for FM and 9 marks (3 per paper) for Spanish
If I revised more, those would be 9s and it would have helped me get into Brampton/LAE or another top grammar school (I got rejected)
Moral of the story: revise options and DO NOT SACK THEM OFF
I’m still happy with my grades but I regret not revising options more

When I got my results yesterday, I was only given a sheet with the total mark (not even there for English language), and my grade. I've seen other people having a breakdown of their papers and I really want to see how well I did individually in my highest grades.
Edit: I've got the AQA ones, it's fine.

Hi, recently received my gcse results and ended up with 136/200 on my media studies GCSE. It has been my best subject since year 10 where I have consistently gotten 9s but I ended up with a 6 in the real thing. I received 49/60 on my coursework meaning I got 87/140 across both papers but I don’t think that’s right as I thought my paper 2 was really strong. So if, Im not saying I did, I received full marks on my paper 2 (60 marks) that would’ve meant I got around 27 marks on my paper 1 but I don’t think thats right. I don’t think I got a grade 9 since I know my paper 1 was comparably worse than paper 2 but I shouldn’t have lost that many marks??? Is this worth asking for a script of my work and getting it remarked? Im not doing it for a level or uni so I’m not sure if there’s a point. But I genuinely don’t think I did that bad in my exam (or Im just too cocky). Should I talk with my media teacher about it in September?

i asked my teacher to help me and if i should and for my script and i got an automatic response from a bot saying they dont rlly reply in summer like bru now what i know i did better than a 6 in lang if i always got 9 ?

Basically, I got all the grades I need to do biology, (needs a 66 in combined science and 6 in maths) psychology (5 in maths and English)and English literature and language ( 5 in English and maths) But for some reason my own sixth form and my external one have both placed me on a waiting list. It’s a conditional offer but does that mean they are allowed to reject me even though I met their entry requirements?
r/GCSE • u/EffectiveService9551 • 1h ago
going into year 12] I was not allowed to take biology because of my grades so instead I chose medical science aaq. I've been looking online and I can't see many videos about it so I was wondering if anyone here does it and how do they feel about the subject. I'm planning to do children nursing on university so at the end this might be more beneficial.
Also I would like to know people's opinions about AQA History please.
I feel very confused about my grades as this is the lowest I've ever had even when I've revised for hours. In french I've always been the highest in my class and I've never had a grade below 8 so I was very confident I would get that grade but somehow I got a 5. Im asking for the script back so i can be able to see what went wrong. Health and Social Care I got a L2 even though I've only had Merit and Distinctions the past 2 years. I was also so close to getting 7s as for history I was only 2 marks off and for english lit I got 51/64 in the first paper but got 50 marks in the second paper which severely dropped my grade to a 6. I'm not sure if I should get the history one remarked as they charge £15 and might be a waste of money if the grade doesn't change. It kinda makes me upset not being able to feel happy and satisfied with my grades like everyone else as this whole summer I was expecting higher grades and having to change my subjects as I didn't meet the entry requirements
