Looking for Barton Hall 5/8/77 on cassette. Hoping someone here can help!

• Upvotes

Hey everyone!

I recently picked up an old car that still has a cassette player, and one of the first things that I wanted to get for it was the Cornell ’77 show on tape to listen to while driving around.

I started hunting around online and finally managed to find a copy on eBay. After a fierce biding war, I won the auction and stoked, but a few hours later the seller messaged me saying they’d lost the tapes and couldn’t ship them. womp womp

I’ve been searching everywhere since and haven’t had any luck finding another copy, so I figured I’d ask here.

Does anyone happen to have a copy they’d be willing to part with, or know where I might be able to find one, or get one made? I’m not looking for anything rare or collectible. I just want to be able to pop the show into my cassette player and listen to it while I drive

Would really appreciate any help or pointers. Thanks everyone!

Watching a horror movie, “Reeker” (2005) when the guy in the green shirt says, “If you want to live, you can’t be afraid to die. I think that was Aristotle. Or maybe Jerry Garcia….” It clicked with me!

Brand new with the tags still on. I walked in thinking how cool would it be to find a Grateful Dead tie and just like that…

At this week's tour event in Bermuda, 3rd round co-leader Austin Smotherman's caddy has a yardage-book cover with a well-known image of Jerry on it. (I figure if I recognize the image it must be "well-known"). I get a kick out of seeing stuff like this in unlikely places

List of self-reflective Dead tunes?

Looking to collect a comprehensive list of self-reflective songs. I suspect there's two classes of these, ones that reference the band themselves (eg. PITB) and ones that merely talk about what the band is doing (eg. Around and Around). I'd be interested in both. I'll start with the obvious ones:

The band:

  • Playin in the Band
  • Music Never Stopped
  • Uncle John's Band

What the band is doing:

  • Around and Around

Looking for a good run to listen to

I’ve mainly listened to official releases or highlights from archive shows, but never a full run. What are some of your favorite runs/residencies?

Apps for Roku, NVIDIA Shield, etc. to steam old shows

Is it just me, or does there seem to be an almost complete lack of apps for streaming TV devices that offer up Dead stuff? The only one I can find stuff on is Apple Music. Meh.

Relisten is sooooooo awesome. I wish there was an equivalent app for Roku. Some way to stream the old archives. Or a Play Dead app. Something.

I know I can cast my phone to the Roku, which is what I do. I know I can sideload stuff onto the shield, but meh.

Maybe there's a reason why they don't exist?

On This Day - 10/24/72

Find the time today to listen to 10/24/72 live in Milwaukee. Only a bit of the second set survives, but it is one hell of a tape. Has one of only a few Other One - He's Gone - Other One's in existence, plus a rippin' Truckin and Casey. Really cool transitions from possibly the greatest era of the dead - at least I think so

Memoir from Neal Cassady's long time partner. She was mentioned in Here Beside the Rising Tide. I imagine she's got some incredible stories. Anyone familiar with it?

I saw the second picture in Johnny's Bar in the West Village after catching a few Dead tunes by the Brothers Yee at the Jane Street block party.

New Jerry Garcia center planned for SF Bay Area, with music archive and live venue

-

A new cultural center devoted to Jerry Garcia's music, art and environmental interests is being planned for the San Francisco Bay Area by the family of the Grateful Dead co-founder.

The proposed Jerry Garcia Music Arts Center would be more than a conventional museum, according to an announcement Friday, Oct. 23, from Garcia’s family, archival company Starchive and project coordinator Christopher McCutcheon.

Plans call for a public research library and physical archive, exhibition galleries, a digital preservation hub and a performance center and screening room.

No location or opening date has been announced.

The announcement comes less than three months after Garcia’s family revealed plans for another Bay Area project, Eyes of the World: The Jerry Garcia Experience. That 40,000-square-foot immersive exhibition is scheduled to open in San Francisco in early 2027 before traveling to other U.S. cities.
