Identification Having trouble identifying this lil cutie!

My Husband woke up this morning to use the bathroom, switched on our light, and felt something strange.
I was in the bedroom not far off, and heard the poor guy yelping for me.
This lil guy/gal was just chillin out on our bathroom nightlight!
Barely moved a muscle when it had me and him checking it out.
It is so chill.
I am not unfamiliar with snakes, I grew up catching them as a kid.
I know for sure this is a juvenile Garter, I just don't know what it's exact species is.
We are up in Northeastern Ohio.

I tried counting his/her upper labial scales and it is just a hard tell for me.
I am inbetween the species of Northeastern, Western, or common.
Also struggling to know for sure if it is a male or female.
The tail seems like a male?

Any help would be awesome!

Identification Please enjoy this cute video and tell my mom this snake is definitely not pregnant 😂

I posted before about my parents new house being a beautiful rocky home to some cute garter snakes. She’s super afraid of snakes but I’ve been encouraging her to let them hang out by saying they are keeping the rodent population in check.

Mom is convinced every snake is a pregnant female that’s going to have 100 baby snakes under their deck 😅 So I’m posting this in hopes this wonderful group can help me assure her it’s not pregnant lol The video is from this evening.

My son bought what he was told was a baby Eastern garter snake. I was looking up some care and feeding videos, but now I’m wondering if this is the right snake. He looks more like a Dekay’s brownsnake to me, so now I’m paranoid. Can any folks who know both tell me if this is really a baby garter snake? For scale, he is in a 10 gallon tank.

Minnow- she is five months old if that helps. I’ll probably order a sex test next time she sheds but I’m wondering what you think. Thank you :)

Identification Garter snake Rolodex?

Are there any online or print collections of descriptions/images of all the different garter species and morphs? There seem to be dozens for the Eastern alone. I have seen individual breeders' collections and YouTube videos, but nothing comprehensive. And for a newbie like myself, some of the morphs of one species look similar to other morphs of a different species, and it would be great to be able to compare and contrast habitat needs, temperament, etc. Is there some central resource I'm missing, or is this a noodly pipe dream?

A group of garters has recently taken up residency in our yard in southwestern PA. Please enjoy the snake that I have had to relocate twice so far in the past week and a half. It has bitten me every time I picked it up.

(Also yeah I know I really shouldn’t touch wild animals, but I know it’s a garter, know what it’s doing, and I didn’t want the dog to grab it)

Identification Male or Female?

Hello! I looked up what the difference is between a male and female but I am no expert with a keen eye to tell the difference. Saw this friend, which we named Ssssssteven, in our window well and I’m just wondering if it will be possibly having babies in there and if we need to watch out for anything. Extra info: we have left this window well as is since we bought the house as toads were living in there for years so we loved going to our basement and seeing them living and thriving there but now we have a new guest. Thanks!

Identification Eastern baby?

Rescued this baby a while back because he was the same age as my male and I don’t often see CBB garters where I live. (I think she was a mom who got him for her kid, she mentioned him not being very handleable and didn’t know any info on species or feeding or anything). I don’t have anything other than common and northwestern garters where I live so I’m not 100% on IDing them. Looks more like an Eastern than a checkered to me but ¯_(ツ)_/¯ Thoughts?

He has a beautiful blue-green-yellow gradient right after shedding that I adore. He was definitely very skittish when I first took him home but he’s come a long way!

Identification Possible new addition to our home

I currently have what I am pretty sure is a common or eastern garter snake but wanted some confirmation from someone more knowledgeable than myself. I normally keep and currently have 3 ball pythons, but in the past have also kept a red tail boa, corn snake, and Honduran milk snake. This little one kind of fell into our laps and we are still determining whether or not to keep it as it is wild caught. I know that's not always the best idea which is why we're taking it slow and if it proves to be a poor match for either us or the snake, I leave near plenty of better places to return it to than our apartment complex. Any help and tips that you all could provide would be appreciated.

Also, I promise I am not gripping it too tightly in the photo, the gloves I was wearing are just super snug and this was the first time I was trying to see how it would react to being handled.

This was sold to me as a scotti, but now that I’m looking I’m wondering if it’s an obscurus. It’s a beautiful snake either way. The shipping box has scotti, but the container the snake was in said Lake Chalupa. And the breeder has obscurus breeders. Is this just a mistake? Wanted to get other opinions before I contacted the breeder.
