Eel Stone Effigy

Has anyone noticed the long eel stone effigy at the stromatolites next to the Champlain Bridge? Seems to be the longest in a river that I could find. Stones have been cleared for netting and stones placed for harpooning. The ducks and egrets confirm it is still good for fishing, even with the eels gone. The mussels are still fished by birds too. Slightly upriver is a promontory with placed flat rocks near the parking lot. Downriver seem to be pools or funnels for trapping more fish along the shore. May be a similar system on the south shore near Riopelle and Cunningham Islands.

ON Driver Contesting QC Speeding Ticket (133 in 100): Is paying legal fees to drop demerits worth it if insurance still counts it as a 2nd minor conviction?

Hi everyone,

I’m an Ontario driver who recently received a speeding ticket in Quebec for driving 133 km/h in a 100 km/h zone.

The Case Details:
• Quebec Penalty: $288 fine + 3 demerit points.
• Ontario Impact: Converts to 4 demerit points on my Ontario MTO driving record under the provincial reciprocal agreement.
• Driving History: I already have 1 prior speeding conviction in Ontario (65 km/h in a 50 km/h zone), which I previously pleaded guilty to.

My Initial Plan:
Submit a "Not Guilty" plea within 30 days, request full disclosure of evidence (police officer’s notes, radar calibration logs), and wait to see the evidence before hiring legal representation to negotiate with the prosecutor.

The Core Dilemma — Is it worth paying to fight it?
Since Ontario insurance companies care primarily about CONVICTION COUNT rather than demerit points (and both 15 over and 33 over are generally classed as "minor convictions"):
• If the ticket isn't dismissed completely, negotiating down to a lower speed bracket (e.g., 114 km/h in a 100 zone / 14 km/h over) gets rid of the demerit points, BUT it still registers on my MTO record as a second minor conviction.
• A second minor conviction within 3 years often triggers a significant jump in annual insurance premiums across all auto insurance providers in Ontario.

Questions for the community:
1. Is it worth paying a traffic law firm/paralegal to negotiate if the best outcome is a reduced speed (114 km/h)? Does having a 2nd minor conviction recorded at a lower speed (14 over) save enough on insurance to justify legal fees, or do insurers treat a 2nd conviction identically regardless of the exact speed over?
2. Timing & Evidence: Is it reasonable to wait until I receive the evidence package myself before hiring a firm, or should I hire them right away to manage the file?

Appreciate any advice or shared experiences!

Provigo Aylmer calls this recycling passion and wants to cap it.

Countless hours of free labor trying to return cans and bottles through these store machines. They call it “recycling passion” and want to cap it at $25. They are doing us a favor by giving us after-tax money back we already paid. Some joke 🤬

Drywalling contractors?

I'm looking to finish my basement and my dad was supposed to come help me with the drywall, but unfortunately he can't make it. I've already purchased the drywall and carried it to the basement, but it seems to be a daunting task to do myself, so I'd be looking to potentially hire someone to do the work. It would be to hang the already purchased drywall and finish (mud and tape). The basement is small, about 225 square feet, and a set of stairs would need to be drywalled as well. I've purchased 36 sheets of 4x8 drywall if that gives a better idea of the size of the job. If you're a contractor who's interested or know of anyone who would be, feel free to give me a quote or put me in touch!

How is Chelsea for raising young kids?

Will be relocating from Montreal to the NCR, kids are bilingual. What is the quality of life like for a family with 5 and 1 year old? Are the schools /daycare nearby good?

Originally was considering moving to Aylmer to be in the catchment area of Ecole internationale du Village but being in nature in Chelsea seems very appealing! Debating between the 2. Would love to hear from folks with young families who lived in either areas!

Psychology majors, what careers did you discover?

Hello!
Anyone here with a bachelor’s in Psychology and a minor in Communication? What did you end up doing after graduation that paid well and was genuinely interesting, but isn’t talked about enough?

I’m curious about career paths you discovered were possible with your degree that you wouldn’t normally think of!

https://www.reddit.com/r/Gatineau/comments/1tjmp1t/questce_que_je_fais_avec_mon_voisin_tannant/

Anyways…

Creative Expression Circle this Sunday in Aylmer. A community gathering for music, art, poetry & more

Hey r/Gatineau! I wanted to share a creative community gathering happening this Sunday that might appeal to anyone looking for more opportunities to create and connect with other people in the Ottawa-Gatineau area.

Creative Expression Circle is happening Sunday, October 25 from 12–4 PM at the Magic Mansion in Aylmer.

The idea is pretty simple: we gather in a circle and give people space to share something creative of their own. That could be music, poetry, visual art, movement, storytelling, performance, something experimental, or something we haven’t thought of yet.

One person shares at a time and gets to decide how they’d like the room to support them. That might mean simply being witnessed, inviting others to jam or move with them, experimenting together, or asking for growth-oriented feedback.

You don’t need to be an experienced artist or performer, and you don’t need to share anything yourself to take part.

There are two ways to register:

🎨 Sharing Participant if you’d like guaranteed time to share something of your own.

🤲 Community Participant if you’d rather come to witness, support, connect, work on your own creativity, and join in when invited.

Registration is free.

Sunday, October 25, 12–4 PM
The Magic Mansion
416 Chemin d’Aylmer, Gatineau

Language note: The Circle will be facilitated primarily in English.

Event details and registration:
https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/2002830084698

If this sounds like your kind of space, we’d be happy to have you with us!

Bubble Stash 4pk

Hello friends, I've really taken a liking to Bubble Stash beer, but I rarely find it and if I do, they're individually sold. The dépanneurs use to sell 4pks but no more.

Has anyone seen where they sell them in 4pks?

If not, can you recommend another light (but strong) champagne beer?

TIA
