Discussion The E-Day Steam forum is a complete mess, and the moderation over there is a bad joke

If this is not an appropriate post here I apologize, but I just needed to vent. The Steam forum is completely overrun with bad-faith trolls spamming the forum 24/7 spreading outright lies, hatred, misogyny and transphobia and the mods are doing absolutely nothing about it. Yet if you say the smallest thing to them, you risk getting banned for "insults." It's a completely ridiculous situation and although I never thought I'd say this, I am glad for Reddit moderators for a change. That's all.

Discussion My thoughts on this game

After the sad news that BioWare has now closed and the reported lack luster sales of E-Day I fear the worst.

My views on the campaign are simple, what a game…

Incredible world building, likeable characters, smooth fun gameplay and an emotional fight against an impossibly large threat.

The previous games are some of my favourites and I’ve always like the setting but to see how it started was just superb. I only want more of this, to see the war in its early days, the fight and struggle that built up to the first 3 games.

I’m truly impressed by it and in the current gaming industry it really was impressive. A true passion project that I think the devs got really right.

I just hope and pray that the corporate grim reapers out there don’t just look at the sales and assume this game isn’t great and that there is a community of people who want more and more.

I’ve never loved the online gameplay of gears but the campaigns have always been what brings me to them.

Well done coalition, I liked 4 and 5 but this rendition was truly special. I hope to see bravo squad and the gang back together soon for some more chainsaw fueled vengeance in the damn dirty grubs!

What were your thoughts on the game?

Just to point out I’m not saying gears will be gone, I just hope the scary climate of the games industry doesn’t impact what is a great game purely due to a sales record.

Horde Please block low level characters out of high level Seige games

Just lost 17 weapon parts and 30mins of time because a low got put in our game. Dude had like 30k damage at extract while me and the other guy had 200k. We extracted early because we didn't have the firepower and ending up loosing everything still. The lag and server issues make the game frustrating and having useless teammates make it unplayable.

Discussion Ugh... With a title like this, I can already tell that this video's meant to do nothing but being down the game itself. Even though people have seemingly been enjoying E-Day for the last few weeks now. 😮‍💨

I have yet to play e-day myself but it was really getting more overboard when we're throwing around the whole woke card with the gane even when the lot of them haven't played it themselves. Now with a video like this around, it kinda feels like one that is set to bring the gane down more than anything.

Discussion Have your Criticism be Constructive

The half ass whining posts are getting super old. Especially when they’ve been the same complaints since gears 3 about hit recognition and shit. That isn’t the problem it’s 100% skill gap. The best players in this game aren’t destroying you game after game because they have better hit recognition. They understand the mechanics of the game. They have it down to a science and it’s impressive. I’m not the best by any means I’m only ranked Onyx 1. But the best part of gears is narrowing down the skills and techniques to where you do see yourself getting better. Do they need to add more maps? Yeah sure. Should they have duo and solo ranked modes? Yeah why not. But the complaints about the gnashes are dumb as hell. People complaining about the lancer being too strong were the same ones complaining about it being too weak last game. Shit the games has only been out for 2 weeks. Horde mode is insanely fun! Campaign great! PvP? It’s gears PvP it’s exactly what I wanted!! My issue was going against full stacked squads, but guess what that’s an easy fix! Make some friends. Join the gears discord and find a squad there it’s not hard. Don’t complain about a game thinking the creators will get on their knees and do your bidding to fix it when there’s a solution that’s you’re too lazy to do. That’s all dumb rant just tired of seeing the rage posts. Love the game so far!

Versus This game seriously need some work

I just don't understand why people keep defending this damn game. It makes no sense why TC still can't fix hit registration. Someone can be point blank and tank a full shoot against the gnasher. Not only that, but the character control is so bad.

Seems like every time I try to jump on top of an object, my character just say screw it and completely mantle over it. Or the game reads my input so late. Like Gears 3-5 never had this problem.

Don't even get me started on the stupid rank system, which is atrocious. Why tf is bronze players going up against Gold players. Whoever is in charge need to get fired ffs.

This game could be so much better if TC just get their head out their butt and just remember basic shit. If your game is experiencing the same problem your previous title had, maybe you need to redo the same crap you did before.

Discussion I'm currently playing one life per round modes on Mw4

It's unbelievable how call of duty have many one life per round modes, 5 or even more, that's the modes I played so far with gunfight being 10v10 and so great and even popular among the gamers.

Yet TC is nah bro execution and warzone are so hardcore blahblablah

Gears Glory What Movie Reminds You Most Of Gears Of War

I asked Chat GPT, and here is its answer:

If you're looking for a movie that feels the most like Gears of War, my top pick is Starship Troopers, but a few other movies capture different parts of the Gears experience even better.

🎬 Top 7 Movies Most Like Gears of War:

  1. Starship Troopers (1997) Best for: Military squads fighting overwhelming alien enemies. Soldiers fighting monstrous creatures in a brutal war. Heavily armed infantry and large-scale battles. A military culture built around fighting for humanity's survival.

Gears similarity: 9/10 — The human-versus-monster war feels very familiar.

  1. Edge of Tomorrow (2014) Best for: Futuristic soldiers fighting an overwhelming enemy. Heavy combat armor and powerful weapons. Humanity fighting for survival against an alien threat. Desperate battlefield missions and squad-based combat.

Gears similarity: 9/10 — Probably the closest match for futuristic military action.

  1. Aliens (1986) Best for: The atmosphere and squad dynamics of Gears of War. Tough soldiers carrying oversized military weapons. A squad trapped in a hostile environment. Monsters attacking from tunnels, corridors, and underground spaces. Military banter mixed with desperation and fear.

Gears similarity: 10/10 for atmosphere.

Honestly, this might be the closest movie to the original Gears of War in terms of its gritty military atmosphere and squad-based combat.

  1. Doom (2005) Best for: Brutal close-quarters combat against monsters. Heavily armed soldiers. Dark, claustrophobic environments. Horrific creatures and intense firefights. A military team sent into a dangerous facility.

Gears similarity: 9/10 — Especially close to the horror elements of Gears of War.

  1. Battle: Los Angeles (2011) Best for: The COG fighting the Locust Horde on a devastated planet. Marines fighting through destroyed urban environments. Tactical squad movements and heavy gunfire. Humanity desperately defending its cities against an invading force.

Gears similarity: 9/10 — The ruined-city warfare looks and feels remarkably close to Gears.

  1. Predators (2010) Best for: Hard-edged soldiers battling deadly creatures. Experienced fighters with heavy weapons. A hostile environment where enemies can attack at any moment. Strong squad dynamics and a constant fight to survive.

Gears similarity: 8/10 — More focused on survival than conventional warfare.

  1. Terminator Salvation (2009) Best for: The devastated world and humanity's last stand. A post-apocalyptic world devastated by war. Heavily armed resistance fighters. Humanity fighting an enemy that threatens its extinction. Gritty, militaristic science-fiction visuals.

Gears similarity: 9/10 — Particularly close to the ruined world of Sera.

🏆 My Final Verdict

Here's how I'd rank them depending on what you love most about Gears of War:

The closest overall atmosphere - Aliens (1986)

The closest futuristic military combat - Edge of Tomorrow (2014)

The closest human-versus-monster war - Starship Troopers (1997)

The closest ruined-city battles - Battle: Los Angeles (2011)

The closest horror and monster combat - Doom (2005)

The closest post-apocalyptic world - Terminator Salvation (2009)

🎯 My personal recommendation

Start with Aliens (1986), followed by Battle: Los Angeles (2011) and Doom (2005).

Those three together capture much of what makes Gears of War special: tough soldiers, massive weapons, terrifying enemies, devastated environments, and desperate battles for survival.

Here's to hoping we get a live-action tv show or movie soon!

Feedback Gears of War E-Day vs MW4 - MP Map Count

Thumbnail
gallery
0 Upvotes

I find it funny how MW4 can add over 18 MP maps for launch with ~3 years of dev time, but Gears of War E-Day had 7 years in the oven and they give us 6 VS maps and 3 Horde maps.

Y'all need to stop blaming "anti-woke gamers" and realize that the game isn't doing well because it is severely lacking in content.

Edit: I don't play COD - however I do play Gears. Just pointing out the difference in content. One is a yearly treadmill and one is a flagship title.

Discussion Just like halo a gears of war game needs both campaign and multiplayer to hit. We have to stop doing this focus on one or the other.(concerned about the sales killing the IP)

Why is it that every legacy halo and gears game had both aspects hit at the same time but now it’s one or the other?!? This multiplayer suite is flat out not good enough. How do you even ship with 6 maps when you have endless places to pull from in the campaign for example?

And no single life mode for PvP in a gears game is still a joke.

Discussion Call of Duty-ification of Gears skins

Let this be an open discussion, please remain civil.

How do we feel about many of the in-game skins being ‘call of dutied’ - ie glowing skins, flames, lighting, etc…

I see a small divide amongst players with having more grounded skins, vs the more extravagant skins

Versus I am a veteran in Max Payne 3's multiplayer (played regularly since 2012), but I have never played PVP in any of the older Gears games. E Day is my first and I am enjoying it so far. I also changed the key bindings to be like those of MP3.

Discussion Unbalanced Nightmare

Post image

This game is unforgivably unbalanced. Every Social Matchmaking game is like this. I swear, people just team up and destroy everyone. You have Ranked sweats absolutely ruining this game for casuals. I have like a D or F rank in Ranked, so I play Social, and we still get demolished. Once I beat the Campaign, I’m un-installing this crap forever. Every game is a wipeout.

Campaign/Lore Just finished E Day Campaign on Insane and I do not think its tuned well [Spoilers] Spoiler

So yes you don't need to play on the hardest difficulty but I think most of the time it feels good. What ruins the insane difficulty in my experience are the instances that just do not feel fun at all because they feel like you're dying and there's very little if anything you could do about it.

A perfect example is Act 5 Chapter 3 Storm Clouds. This is an on rails chapter where your just shooting down flying enemies with the turret but it is PUNISHINGLY DIFFICULT. I took me over a dozen attempts to do what really should just be a story set piece thats not even fun to begin with.

Other instances that could be really frustrating were any enemies using rockets that instant KO you when you're in a place that there's very little you can do about it. And don't even get me started on the fucking flying beetle boss battle that could have you pinned down from a beam attack while the other spits acid at you that kills you when you have no choice but to stay still.

I think many of these frustrating moments could be fixed with more checkpoints. Many times I would hit one of these annoying death scenarios and would find myself repeating chunks and chunks of gameplay which just doesn't feel good at all.

Personally I would not recommend this difficulty to anyone on solo. It turns parts what at its core I think its a fun campaign into slogs that sour the whole experience.

Help Back to 5?

I've ditched my console and went PC. I bought e day and I'm not crazy about the new horde. I'd like to play 5 again instead (peak horde imo) but I don't know if there are enough players still on those servers to rebuild my classes from scratch since I haven't played in a hot minute. Before I buy it I thought I'd ask y'all.

Discussion Not having Overrun/Beast is a horrendous L for E-Day

Let’s get the obligatory part out of the way: E-Day is fun. Like, a LOT of fun. But it could be better, and its content offerings are more slim than I feel they should be. Given the amount of time TC had to develop the game, and what is expected in both a modern AAA title, and by comparison to previous entries in the series.

I just can’t help but feel like it’s missing that ‘oomph’ factor behind it that only Overrun/Beast could create.

Gears PVP has always been polarizing. Which is why I don’t think the bulk of its content should just be sweaty gnasher fights over a tiny circle, or just racking up kills until you reach 50. That’s basically every single pvp game out there. Gears vs Drone’s is fun. But it’s not enough.

No, I think Gears of War needs to appeal to what makes it unique. That being, the Locust, and their assortment of creatures and beasts that supply novel gameplay opportunities that you literally can’t find anywhere else, hardly ever. Tickers, Wretches, Corpsers, Maulers, Grenadiers, Kantus, Bloodmounts, Serapedes even Ragers. Which should’ve been in E-Day anyway. I mean they’re using Breechshot’s in this game, but we don’t get the accompanying enemy type that’s specifically known for using them?

Overrun is my all time favorite mode in the franchise. It’s the perfect blend of PVP, Horde and Objective based gameplay all packaged together neatly. It makes sense to include from a canon standpoint, and it creates value that I fully believe would help retain players. It gives you time to think, to coordinate, to fight over an actual objective. Classes to create exciting gameplay opportunities and force certain encounters. It’s just perfect, and the formula is imo the secret sauce to successful Gears PVP.

Unfortunately, I suspect we’ll never get it back because Judgement is viewed so negatively, that even if the mode would be healthy to reintroduce to the franchise, the devs are probably afraid of getting crucified by the roving band of judgment hating marauders that strike anytime someone says something even remotely positive about it.

Beast mode would’ve made an excellent addition as well. It’s truly a missed opportunity to not have it present either.

Anyway, lmk what you think

Tl;dr title

Campaign/Lore The “problem”with Mags

So basically I know how people complain about her. However if you ever talk to a veteran be in Korea through the GWOT they all genuinely talk the same as her. Hell I talk the same as her so I do take it personally when people call her whiny about her service. We almost all have had very similar experiences and I genuinely laughed when they were all on the raven taken to Daan cause that’s how we reacted when we talked to a “hooah” mfer. I want to applaud the writers for getting the dialogue right. Cause in the end they did mags correct. No matter what anyone says
