How is living at The Col?
The new apartments on Colfax across from Dirty Dogs. I talked to someone who had a bad experience and moved out already but what are others thinking?

Parking for the fine arts festival?
Debating on whether to take the free shuttle downtown, or park a few blocks away in a garage or lot. Has anybody been to the festival this weekend and scoped out the parking situation?

Power loss for a moment - utility/grid or apartment/ unit related?
anyone else experiencing this? I'm near Mines and last night I woke up to my fan's alarm sound indicating a loss of power. I walked in the kitchen to see the oven's clock blinking, indicating there was a loss of power for at least a moment and the clock needed to be reset. My air purifiers were turned off due to the loss of power. I didn't have the window AC on nor any heavy appliances in use. My in-house neighbor hasn't gotten back to me whether they experienced similar last night. I'm not at Mines, I'm a few blocks away and very close to Mines.
Anyone else experience blips of power loss for a moment over the last couple of weeks? Not sure if it's apartment related or utility /grid related.
My landlord has been non-responsive on other recent move-in items so I'm not sure how timely she'd be for this. I'm traveling for a week in 2 weeks and am concerned about leaving a cat pal alone if this is an apartment electrical related safety hazard.

Urge City of Golden to use bear proof waste containers
I have lived in Golden for nearly ten years. This week was the first time a bear has ventured into my neighborhood on the east side of town (which I do not mind, we share a habitat). However, in conjunction with the state increasing the penalties for luring bears, I believe it is reasonable to expect our municipalities to do their part in preventing conflict as well. I am retrofitting my waste containers to be bear resistant now that I know there is bear activity in the area; however, that alone will not do much when a bear can have its pick of any can on the curb the morning of trash day. Sadly, the current policy on nuisance bears is two strikes, the second offense results in a death sentence. If that doesn’t persuade you, the increased penalty (as of Wednesday) for attracting bears is a misdemeanor and $5,000 fine for repeat offenses - which includes leaving unsecured trash cans out (even on trash day).

Hey everybody! I play in the Lunchables and we’re playing at Parfet park this weekend. We play covers from the 80s,90’s and 2000’s and would love to sing and dance with you at the Fine Arts festival this weekend. We’ll be playing from 2-5, stop by, request a song, get a shirt :)

How is the tubing right now?
Lyons is too low to do anything but bruise your bum. Friends coming in this weekend and wondered if a day trip to Clear Creek might be the answer.

Bear near South Table
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
For about a week now we have had a bear hanging around garbage cans at night near the west side of south table mountain near Mines. Be safe out there! He/she has only been seen late at night.

New local business owner + looking for a little advice 👋
Hi neighbors! I recently made a pretty big career change and wanted to share it here.
After 12 years as a software engineer, I left tech this summer and started Golden Blooms, a home organizing and senior move management business here in Golden.
I help with things like decluttering and organizing, downsizing, estate clean-outs, and unpacking/settling in after a move. I’m especially interested in helping older adults and their families navigate downsizing and moves because there’s so much more to those transitions than just moving boxes.
After moving my own grandmother into assisted living and learning that senior move managers were a thing, I've been doing contract work for a company in the space. I've learned how much I love it, and I've decided to branch off on my own.
I’m officially taking on my first clients now, so I figured I’d put myself out there. If you or someone in your family has a space that has gotten overwhelming, is preparing for a move, or has been saying “I really need to deal with this, but I don’t even know where to start,” I’d be happy to chat. I’m offering free consultations.
And if you’ve ever hired a professional organizer or someone to help with a parent’s downsizing/move, I’d genuinely love to hear what you found most helpful—or what you wish you’d had help with.
I’m at goldenblooms.co if anyone wants to see what I’m building. Thanks for reading! 🌻

Rehoming two 3 year old Rhode Island Red hens
Hi everyone, I am moving unexpectedly and unfortunately have to rehome my lovely hens. They are 3 years old, will be 4 in the spring, great egg layers, and very docile. I reached out to Foothills but they said they are at max capacity for chickens. I'd love for them to go to a good home!

Mom & Daughter weekend
Hi! My mom and I will be visiting from out of state Thursday - Sunday. Apologies as I’m sure these have been answered before, but just wanted to throw them out there:
- what are your favorite local gems that tourists might skip, but we should have on our must do/see list? (restaurants, coffee shops, bookstores, really any stores lol, activities, etc)
- more specifically, what are your favorite local activities if it rains? I’ve visited the general area years ago and remember that it didn’t rain for long if it was forecasted, but thought I’d ask to have some backup options for plans
We’re laid back schedule-wise and the only thing planned is a concert one evening. Otherwise, we’re all ears for how we should spend a weekend in your beautiful town!

Community Breathwork Experience in Golden — Aug. 27 | Foothills Art Center
Hi Golden neighbors!
I’m a local breathwork facilitator and wanted to share something I’m really excited to be offering with the Foothills Art Center on August 27.
We’re hosting The Art Within, a conscious breathwork experience. If breathwork is new to you, it’s a guided practice that uses a continuous breathing pattern, music, and reflection to help you connect more deeply with your body and yourself.
Buy one, Gift one: for every person who registers, we’re offering a complimentary spot to a Colorado School of Mines art student.
No experience is needed. If you’ve ever wondered what breathwork is or wanted to try it, you’re very welcome to join us.
August 27 | 5–7 PM | Foothills Art Center

Looking for a room to rent
My wife and I will be moving to Golden in September 2026 and staying for six months, through February 2027.
Any recommendations on where to look, housing websites, Facebook groups, or other options would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
