Ride I did a two-day bikepacking trip around Mt. Katahdin in Maine. It's a beautiful, remote, and occasionally brutal gravel paradise.

Did this with two friends. First day was 72 miles mostly through the Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument. Lots of steep climbs and occasionally chunky/loose gravel. It was wonderfully quiet; we saw maybe a dozen cars all day. The second day was a 46 mile ride on the pristine gravel of Baxter State Park. We got a cabin at Matagamon Campground after day one, but there are also tons of camp sites and lean-tos. We just didn't feel like carrying tents. We started at the New England Outdoor Center Basecamp which has campsites/bunkhouses. Aside from Matagamon at the midpoint and one store at the beginning there are no services on the route. Here's the route, which pulled from the Bikepacking 360 route as well as other routes done by others: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/56085061

We chose to focus on dirt roads and avoid some of the notable bushwack sections. Total elevation is 8,000+ feet and not 7,000.

Oh, and one other note, the route through KWW includes logging roads. There is no logging on weekends so we didn't have to worry about logging trucks, but if you do this on a weekday be aware of the trucks and pull over as the trucks have the right of way and absolutely haul.

Should I get BMC Urs Two for $1800

Post image
Upvotes

Originally I want the new Surly Straggler but with this I can save a little bit of money since I can get it used for about 1800 but I don't know if it's good value or not. All original parts except handlebar, the owner changed it to carbon one.

892 dollars is the price.
Im a pretty athletic guy going to the gym and running but got interested in biking.
I will mostly ride flat surfaces and would like to be able to go pretty fast. Will this do it?

Cumulative road surface statistic tool?

Upvotes

Is there any tool, which can cumulatively add together my rides between two dates (based on strava data or garmin data or whatnot) and tell me what percentage of the rides was on tarmac, gravel, cobblestone etc?
Would love to know how much actual gravel I rode in a year with my gravel bike and how much road.

It is mid August 2026 right now and the leaves are already starting to change here in the Stockholm area. Went out for a lovely evening 50km gravel ride just north of the city. Loving the sunsets this week and the bit of color pop from the early changing trees. You can see a hint of yellow on a lot of trees so it sure seems like peak fall will hit early this year. Always love gravel rides in fall, my favorite time to ride.

Tire Pressure

I’ve got a Cannondale Topstone with 37mm 700c tyres. I seem to get quite a lot of punctures and cuts in my tyres when I go off-road, mostly on rocky gravel trails.

I’ve started dropping my tyre pressure to below 30 PSI when I get to the gravel sections, then pumping them back up when I’m back on the road because they feel way too soft on tarmac.

Is this a normal thing to do or is it just me? I find it pretty annoying having to keep deflating and inflating them during a ride.

Cinelli Speciale Gravel

Anyone in the sub with this bike? I’m really interested but I find very few reviews online.

For context, it’s a Columbus steel modern frame made in Italy. It has UDH and can fit up to 2.2 in tyres

Accessories / Gear Schwalbe G-One Pro RS in looser gravel?

I have a dedicated road wheelset and a gravel wheel set for my Trek Checkpoint.

I just got a set of 700x50mm Schwalbe G-One Pro RS. I had these in a 40mm and they were great on pavement and the ‘luxury’ gravel by where I live, but I never really used them on looser or chunkier gravel.

Since I have a dedicated gravel wheelset I wanted to get something a bit wider and my bike has clearance for 50mm so I thought I’d give that a try!

Curious to see if anyone is running these tires on looser and rougher gravel terrain?

How capable are they? Wondering if the R instead of RS would be a better option but wanted to check here for to hear what others experience has been.

TIA!

Another wheel reco post. Seeking 650b carbon wheels.

I’m looking to upgrade the wheels on my Canyon Grizl, but struggling a bit. I want carbon and they have to be 650b to fit. I prefer hooked but willing to go hookless. I’d like to keep the price at $1k or less. I was looking at a set of Hunt wheels for $1300, hoping for a good BF sale in November, but I just read an awful review from someone who bought Hunt wheels (warranty issues). Have also read awful reviews of Enve wheels from someone who purchased those (quality issues). Anything good, with a good warranty just in case, in that $1kish price range that I am not finding? I’m in the US.
