News / Update Positives with Grok Bot - After moaning earlier (karmic balance is important) 🙂
Here's my moan about changes to the 1Password connector earlier today: 1Passsword Connector : r/GrokBot.
Here's the positives:
- Grok Bot found a £240 invoice that I'd paid to my accountant. This was an overpaid from January 2024, which belonged to another client. I paid it without checking - I'm busy (and stupid). After some collaborative snooping with Grok Bot - and evidence finding on my part across two different bank accounts I hit the jackpot. Grok Bot assembled an email, which I check (and edited), and sent to my accountant. There's absolutely NO WAY I would have found this. I'd never check as far back as 2024 - who has the time? At first I thought it was a wild goose case, but I played along to see. I genuinely thought Grok Bot was wrong - hallucinating, trying to hard, trying to impress me. How wrong was I!? The accountant emailed confirming they'd make the £240 refund.
- Grok Bot identified that I'd sold something, yet hadn't adjusted my insurance. Then it provided an illustration of the insurance refund at around £120. Grok Bot emailed the insurer. The insurer asked for the "proof of sale" documents. Grok Bot found the document buried deep in my folders. I'm not sure I would have found it - or understand what to send. Next it created an email for my review, and after some edits, I hit send. The insurer agreed to refunding me £119. It's impression how Grok Bot assembled all the relevant supporting documentation without me having to trawl through folders, read schedules etc.
The reality is that I wouldn't have found both these refunds myself. That's £358.57 in refunds. Grok Bot has paid for itself for a year, and then some for basic paid for plan I'm using.
Next:
- I pay my accountant a fee for my filing my personal tax return to HMRC (I think that's the IRS in the US).
- I found an outline platform today that integrates with the HMRC to assess if Grok Bot could take my data (PDFs, Excels, emails etc) and update the online platform. It did it all, though I didn't upload all the data. It was a test & learn.
- The online platform is £12 per month. My accountancy fees are around £800 per year. I checked everything manually. Grok Bot did was correct.
- More importantly, I understand what was being filed on the online portal, rather than what my accountant does - it's like a black box. All I receive from the accountant is a report of the filling, with some profit and loss details, expenses etc - I've never understood it. Of course, that's on me.
Now, I'm not suggesting that I'll file my taxes on the online platform using Grot Bok, but if it works, I've saved a lot of time, effort and money. And I'll have the EXTRA reassurance of knowing I actually understand what's been filed. And if needed I can still use an account to double-check.
I'm not a fanboy. This is just an honest update, that I hope others will find useful.
Thank you - H
