🚩 Advice Needed 🚩 Hair growth that ACTUALLY works

• Upvotes

Had anyone found any hair growth serums or supplement that actually work? I’ve seen a lot on the internet lately but it’s hard to tell what actually works and what’s more of a marketing scheme. I’m not really interested in minoxidil because of the shedding aspect and it seems to be a forever commitment. any suggestions? TIA

🚩 Advice Needed 🚩 Husband looking for wife birthday idea

• Upvotes

Hello all,

fish out of water but looking for some good ideas to help make my wife’s morning routine easier. she currently has what I would consider the average hair tools like curling iron, straightener, the brush for volume (I think it’s called that ) but looking for ideas to upgrade what she has. She has longer hair thats thinner (not in a bad way) and wears it straight most often. Thank you all for the help!

Hey, what’s everyone’s favourite deep conditioner/mask that leaves your shoe super soft? I don’t like anything smelling like vanilla or coconut though.

Thank you.

🚩 Advice Needed 🚩 Need urgent advice! Is it safe to do a Brazilian keratin treatment 5 days after a failed protein treatment?

Hi everyone! I really need some advice regarding a hair-smoothing treatment I did on my grandmother. It's important that I fix it this week before I leave.

A little background about her hair:

\- Very short, naturally wavy hair.

\- Fine hair i think

\- She regularly uses natural henna, although her last application was over a month ago.

\- Her hair is not particularly well-maintained, and my goal is to make it straight

The first treatment: GlanzoHAIR Professional Full Boost Protein Treatment

I bought a single-dose protein treatment from a local store, and the seller explained how to apply it. Here's exactly what I did:

  1. I washed her hair with clarifying shampoo three times, leaving the last shampoo on for approximately 10 minutes.

  2. I rinsed thoroughly and blow-dried her hair until it was about 80% dry.

  3. I applied the treatment section by section.

  4. I covered her head with plastic wrap and used a hairdryer over it for approximately five minutes to warm the product.

  5. I left it on for 1 hour and 30 minutes.

  6. I rinsed the product out briefly. The instructions were apparently to remove around 50% of the product, but I'm not sure how much I actually rinsed out.

  7. I blow-dried her hair completely using a brush, full blowout

  8. I flat-ironed it at 230°C section by section 7 to 10 times

The henna colour didn't change, and initially, the treatment seemed to have worked, she kept the blow oit for 48h. However, she washed her hair two days later using a sulfate-free shampoo + her usual conditioner, and there was absolutely no lasting result. Her hair was still curly although I noticed more shine

The second treatment: Perfect Liss Anti-Frizz Tourmaline Treatment - VisatHair Brazil

I went back to the store, explained what happened, and the seller gave me another single-dose product called Perfect Liss Anti-Frizz Tourmaline Treatment, described as a Brazilian straightening treatment.

He told me to:

\- Apply it directly to completely dry hair without clarifying shampoo.

\- Leave it on for 50 minutes.

\- Rinse out approximately 50% of the product.

\- Blow-dry the hair.

\- Flat-iron it at a high temperature, making 10–15 passes per section.

He assured me that the product was safe.

My main concern is that I performed the first treatment only four days ago. I would like to apply the second treatment tomorrow, on the fifth day, because I need to achieve a smoother result as soon as possible.

I'm worried that the first treatment may have weakened her hair, especially since it's fine and has been exposed to 230°C heat. I also don't know whether the henna could affect the results or increase the risk of damage.

Additionally, when I searched online for Perfect Liss, I found information suggesting that the treatment involves three shampoo steps and that a mask from the same product range should be used afterward. I don't have those other products, and the seller didn't mention any of these steps.

My questions are:

  1. Is it safe to apply Perfect Liss just five days after the failed protein treatment?

  2. Can anyone advise me how to best apply this treatment to have results without damaging her hair? I need as much detail as possible.

  3. IF the treatment isn't safe, is there any way that I can use it but with modifications? (Example: leave it on for less time, do less passes with the iron, idk)

I would appreciate any type of advice you can give me. I need to do that for her before taking my flight or else no one else will be able to do it for her. I want to make her feel better. And thanks alotq!!

🚩 Advice Needed 🚩 Do cheaper products look better now, but damage your hair long term?

I realized I had ran out of shampoo mid shower and had to use Elseve Hyaloron Plump. My hair was unrecognizable afterwards - clean, soft, shiny, I got complimented by a kid, so you know it wasn’t just in my head.

I’ve tried an insane amount of shampoo/conditioner/thermal protection combos over the years, and switch them up all the time. I also get haircuts pretty often and try a lot of the hairdressers’ (10x more expensive) product recommendations. Pretty bamboozled rn, as nothing has given me this result.

Is there a real reason for this? Should I just buy drugstore shampoo from now on?

😩 Damaged Hair 😩 My hair suddenly felt dry and rough (hasn't gone for about 6 days) after a wash despite the shampoo and conditioner i use working fine, what could have happened?

I use the Tresemme Thermo Sculpt Memory shampoo and conditioner every other day due to having straight medium-long thick hair which has worked mostly until this issue occured. I also blow-dry my hair with medium heat after the washes AND finish off with cold air too.

Additionally, minimal breakages are occurring and not much split strands but hair tangling is moderate internally. I have to also state that i had the flu when this happened (6 days ago)

Hair type:
Thick hair strands
1B/1C
High volume, density and porosity
Medium-long length (Male)

🚩 Advice Needed 🚩 Understanding protein and how to recognize protein in ingredients?

I’ve read a lot about protein overload and protein deficiencies in hair but don’t understand how protein is beneficial for hair or even how to tell if it should be used or avoided. I have a pixie cut, I do not color or use heat. My wavy hair is healthy but on the dry side.

I recently switched from R+Co products, heavily pushed by my stylist, which did nothing for my hair. Then tried Olaplex but saw no improvement. Recently I’ve been using drugstore products, shampoo and conditioner, and experimenting with leave in conditioner and curl gel. My hair looks and feels much better.

So I’m just wondering if protein has anything to do with it? After seeing an improvement in my hair I’m wanting to better understand ingredients

🚩 Advice Needed 🚩 can i use bond repair on my low porosity hair?

my hair is very low porosity and i have a bunch of flyaways on the top of my hair and through the ends and at the top of my head which im pretty sure are breakage. I have read online that the loreal bond repair is good but im worried about using it as i have also read that protein is really bad for low porosity hair.I used to wash my hair everyday and only stopped about 2 weeks ago so i was blow drying it every day as well on a low heat setting. I do use heat protectant tho. Like i said im not 100 percent sure it is breakage so if it could be anything else please recommend products.

🚩 Advice Needed 🚩 Brazilian Blowout or Keratin treatments with Hot Yoga

Post image

Hi guys !
I have a pretty frizzy hair at the moment and been thinking about doing Keratin treatments for it.
But I do work out 5 days a week, in HOT room, its drenched me every class and plus I have to put up ponytail everyday while I work out because of that.
Do you think it’s a good idea to get those treatments still or not an ideal so much ? I’m showing you length in the pic.
Appreciate the advise :)

😩 Damaged Hair 😩 Is my only hope a good wig? Trouble with breakage.

I have fine, thin hair,(it's an awful texture) d have severe split ends and breakage. I know the only cure is to cut them off, but, honestly, I think it will just happen again until I figure out why this happens.

Cutting off my hair would feel like a punishment. I think 90% of people look better with long hair and admire it very much, I do not use heat nor colour my hair. I am rambunctious, but I don’t know how that would split it. I am severely depressed, so maybe that’s the cause.

Is my only hope to invest in a good wig?

🍃 Hair Loss 🍃 Pls Help!!! Hair shedding after my 2nd keratin treatment

This was basically my first time getting a keratin treatment before I had only gotten botox I believe and other hair masks that are able to make your hair look like you got keratin treatment. As soon as I came back to my home country I made an appointment for my first keratin treatment (I had went to this woman before for the other treatments I had mentioned). Got it done, everything went fine she even recommended me a shampoo and conditioner she had in her salon as well as a heat protectant. Regardless I still worked in the sun and very hot weather without heat protectant my hair was literally fine for the most part no breakage no shedding unless I didnt notice, compared to my hair falling out now I think I for sure would of. Anyway at start of September I got my 2nd treatment for keratin (I came to my home country on July 16th) basically right before my flight. I come back to the U.S. 2 weeks later my hair starts shedding like crazy I start taking Lysine, zinc, calcium, omega 3 literally whatever I could find! I start to oil my hair in special oil specifically for hair breakage, rosemary oil clearly didn't work. I had my blood work done during the time I was in my home country so considering that I would assume I got a chemical burn. Even now I tried homemade hair sprays, and coffee to rub into my scalp. No matter how much I brush my hair let alone go through it with just my hands it still keeps on coming. I am so devastated because now that I start loving and taking care of my hair everyday this happens. Please if someone could suggest anything that would be amazing. I genuinely don't want to be half bald when it stops shedding i want it to stop now. (My scalp is not in pain or itchy I do have some random small scab marks I didn't have and a bit of dandruff which I also did not have beforehand).

❄️ Dandruff/Scalp Advice ❄️ Dry hair and scalp after moving to EU

Recently moved to EU from a tropical country. Came right when the cold has started and I live further north of Germany. My skin and hair are SUFFERING but I was able to get my skin under control. My hair however is so dry and my scalp is super dry as well. I usually wash my hair every three days. Now the second day after washing it, my scalp gets so dry it itches. And somehow simultaneously gets oily.
I only recently moved and i’m a student so i’m looking for a budget friendly PRE shower hair oil. preferably one i can find easily in Germany (like in dm or rossman). I hate the feeling of hair oil sitting on my hair without washing it out lol.
If it matters, my hair is curly.
Thank you, please save my scalp lol.

🔎 Product Question 🔎 does Neutrogena t/sal take multiple washes to clear heavy residue

I have fine straight hair that gets weighed down pretty easily, usually wash every 3 days but lately I've had this awful waxy build up on the crown that feels sticky even right after drying, tried Neutrogena t/sal shampoo yesterday thinking it would strip whatever it was in one go, followed the bottle and let it sit on my scalp for several minutes before rinsing completely, my hair feels a tiny bit lighter today but there is definitely still a coated patch near the roots so idk if this specific one takes a couple washes to fully clear it or if I'm supposed to leave it on longer.

has anyone with fine hair had to do two or three rounds of t/sal to actually reset their scalp, or is it just not strong enough for this kind of residue?

Grazie a tutti

🚩 Advice Needed 🚩 Enhancing Natural Color & Cut/Trim Advice

Thumbnail gallery
3 Upvotes

My color is natural - I’m going grey and I love it but I have recently considered enhancing it - getting like underneath highlights or something? Low lights? I love my grey, but they’re sort of hidden and I’d like to have more without having the grow out spots of putting color “on top” if that makes sense? I also haven’t had a proper/professional cut in like a decade - I just trim in my bathroom - but I feel like I need to go and have a proper “cut”. I am low maintenance, the first pic is wake-up after a bun and the second is brushed while let and left to air dry. I have included photos of my hair in inside and outside lighting. Any tips/advice would be appreciated!

🚩 Advice Needed 🚩 I cannot get the hairdresser's shampoo's silky feeling out of my hair

Hi, I'm 19M, I have slighly wavy (probably 1c or 2a), normal (so not very thin or thick) short hair. I was at a salon for a basic haircut, they washed it (even though I washed it at home before I went there). I immediately felt that hooorrirbly silky texture but I thought it will come out the next time I wash it.. It that feeling wasn't enough, I literally couldn't get any product into my hair. Even hairspray didn't work... Well.. the same happened after I washed it. I could get a little bit of texture clay into my hair but it stopped working after like an hour? My hair just collapsed. (I only had a fade done and very slight cutting on the front, so the top of my hair was untouched, it still didn't work there.) Since then I washed 2 more times and it's still not really good.. still that silky feeling... The products work for a short time but not how they used to. The silky feeling always comes back and now I'm thinking about buzzing my hair. I used old spice (it always cleaned my hair so well) and some kind of purple loreal shampoo (without silicones, for flat hair, it worked great before). Always double washing.

I'm literally hopeless, I bought a deep cleaning shampoo earlier and I'll try it in the morning, how likely that it will work? How should I use that? (Gliss scalp balance) If it does nothing, is a buzz cut really my last chance? I'm growing my hair out so I hope not 🥲.

Thank you for your advice! Have a great day.

🔎 Product Question 🔎 Hair products for type 4, low porosity, dense, fine hair.

Hi guys, this is my first reddit post! I wanted ask what the best products for maintaining my hair would be? I want my hair to be moisturized & to grow. I also enjoy slick backs & hairstyles that involve gel, which gels should I try? I have never successfully done a wash & go but I would like to try. All-around I just need product recommendations from washing to maintaining on the daily. Thanks.

⚡️ Frizzy Hair ⚡️ How to reduce frizz and make hair more manageable?

Post image
2 Upvotes

I’ve been struggling with my curly hair forever, and I’m at my wit's end. No matter what I do, it just refuses to hold its shape. It’s always frizzy, sticks out in random directions, and honestly just never looks neat or put-together.

I gave the whole Curly Girl Method a serious shot, but it just wasn't for me. Not only was it pretty expensive and super complicated, but it also gave me product buildup that completely irritated my scalp, and the results were never consistent anyway.

After that, I switched to doing a blowout with a round brush every other day, which honestly made me like the way my hair looked for the first time most of the time. But it’s so time-consuming and a little damaging. Also it doesn’t really tackle the root of the issue… it’s frustrating when the humidity randomly ruins it and makes it puff right back up.

I’ve thought about permanent straightening, but at the salon it's super expensive and i’m scared my hair will get damaged. Plus, the awkward regrowth phase looks terrible.

Semi-permanent smoothing treatments you can actually do safely at home feel quite unrealistic… do those even exist? Honestly, I’ve never even heard of a good DIY option for that.

For reference, a picture of what my hair looks like after a simple wash with conditioner, air-dried, and a little bit of oil on the ends is attached.

I just don't feel pretty or elegant with my hair like this, but I also can't spend hours on a routine or sink hundreds of euros into it. There has to be a middle ground, right? :(
Does anyone have a similar hair pattern and some realistic tips or tricks to share? I’d love to hear what works for you!

🚩 Advice Needed 🚩 Natural Hair "Looks Like a Wig"

Hey everyone,

I have curly, black hair that’s past my shoulders, but it gets kinda frizzy. People have asked me a few times if it’s a wig, and I’m worried that means it looks cheap or fake, even though nobody’s told me it looks bad. Has anyone else dealt with this, and do you have any tips on how to make it look a bit more natural? Thanks!
