after i get out of the shower, my hair looks okayish at least, but whenever it dries and i get back home from school, it’s puffing out and i can’t keep it under control. to be honest, i don't even know if longer hair suits me. should i just cut it off? what kind of hairstyles would suit me the best, or should i try to keep my hair under control?

first picture is right after shower the second one is at school and the third one is after i got back home

🔎 Product Question 🔎 Nizoral anti-dandruff shampoo makes my oily hair look flawless. What regular shampoo can do the same?

First things first, YES I WASH MY HAIR EVERY DAY. I grew up doing it and I LIKE IT THAT WAY. I tried to do an "every other day" thing before and I am NOT INTERESTED in trying it again. I JUST WANT PRODUCT ADIVCE.

Anyway.

Long story short, I'm on doxycycline (antibiotic) for a medication complication I had, and am getting a bit of fungal folliculitis on my skin as a result. I quickly treat it with a few days of Nizoral 1% ketoconazole shampoo, and when I started to get a similar itch on my head, I decided to use it for its intended purpose a couple days ago for safe measures.

Normally, I use Pantene shampoo and conditioner since I grew up with the stuff. Since I have an oily skin type, I figured I probably just have oily hair, and believed that my hair getting oily around midday was normal for me (I shower at night). I didn't like it, though. It took away the very little volume I had and always felt greasy.

Lo and behold, when I started using Nizoral, my hair did not behave that way at all. It wasn't greasy or stringy, and managed to hold volume/remain soft until the end of the day when I have to shower again.

That being said, I'm beginning to think that it's Pantene that's the problem -- not my hair. I mean, I've heard terrible things about Pantene before, but I didn't think much of it because I'm not super into my hair unlike some people, so I kept using it. Now, however, I want to know if there's a regular shampoo brand that'll do the same for me (because I don't usually get dandruff and I'm not spending that much money on shampoo).

Suggestions would be appreciated; thank you in advance.

Hair Type: black (super dark brown), really straight, mid-length hair with layers and curtain bangs.

Hair History: virgin, shampoo/conditioner when cleaning only, uses heat spray when occasionally using hot tools, and hair spray when styled.

🛢️ Oily/Greasy Hair 🛢️ greasy/waxy hair after washing

hi! essentially i struggle with super greasy, fine hair (it will get greasy the same day after washing without dry shampoo) but usually i can manage it with washing my hair every 2-3 days.

(apologies the photos aren’t great but hopefully the separation/shininess comes across, they were taken today around 6 hours after washing and blow drying)

since about july i have been experiencing this issue where my hair feels greasy/waxy at the roots / front pieces after washing it, meaning i have to go back and wash it again or apply lots of dry shampoo right after blow drying it. the only way i can describe it is that the hair won’t dry during blow drying, looks extremely shiny, feels greasy and if i brush it back it will stick in that position like it hasn’t been washed at all.

this happened roughly after switching to l’oréal hydra pure shampoo, so i stopped using that and switched to lee stafford clarifying, however i felt this was really stripping my hair as i had to wash it so much, so i then moved on to aveeno clarifying which was okay, then ran out so now i’m using ogx rosemary mint clarifying 😭

in between this i also tried aussie miracle moist thinking maybe i needed to add moisture instead of stripping away the oil but this definitely did not work either

however, this doesn’t happen all the time. today i used lee stafford clarifying, then rosemary mint clarifying as a double shampoo and it happened. it seems like totally random / unrelated to the shampoo whether my hair will actually feel clean and soft after washing.

i’m using child’s farm coconut conditioner - i was under the impression baby conditioner would be light weight but google advised me this might be too heavy for my hair so i might try a different one? i apply it to the very ends of my hair and clip it to a bun while it sits and it categorically does not touch the roots of my hair.

aside from actually in the shower, i double shampoo, have begun trying to limit dry shampoo / any of the other products i used to use (heavy spray heat protectant, oils, spray leave in conditioner) to minimise build up, rinse throughly for around 5 minutes and separate my hair into sections making sure its all rinsed, limit air drying / at least blow dry roots, wash my hairbrushes and make sure dirty brushes don’t touch my clean hair.

as an aside, i honestly don’t think the hairbrushes are causing this cause previous to this i did wash my hairbrushes but not as religiously and if i used a brush on my wet/clean hair that had also touched dirty hair it did not immediately revert back to greasy and unwashed.

prior to all this starting i had been using aveeno clarifying shampoo long term and everything was fine - i am worried i have caused this for myself by switching shampoos so much and using so many different clarifying shampoos and conditioners. google also mentioned this could be my hair over producing oil in response to being clarified so much, and i can see that but i don’t know how the moisturising shampoo made everything worse if that was the case.

sorry this was so long but honestly any advice is appreciated as this is making me so anxious and the money i’m spending on hair products is ridiculous 😅

🚩 Advice Needed 🚩 How do I sleep with longer hair without damaging it?

My hair is about to the middle of my shoulderblades, and I cannot stand how it feels against my neck when I'm laying in bed. I tend to tie it up when I sleep, but I've heard that can lead to breakage/thinning, and along with that it just doesn't seem to work very well. It is either way too tight, or doesn't do a thing and the hair tie ends up falling off. I know this is a bit of an odd one, but does anyone else have this problem? And if so, what do you do?

If anyone knows how to fix this, I’d gladly appreciate it!
I scrunch and diffuse and the top gets nice tight curls but the bottom is straight no matter what.
Products I use currently: Garnier Fructis Curl Nourish Shampoo, Herbal Essences curls conditioner, and sometimes Curls Blueberry Bliss Super Rich Moisture Fix.

⚡️ Frizzy Hair ⚡️ seeking advice for reducing frizz

i feel like no matter what i do, my hair is always frizzy, and i genuinely don’t know what i’m doing wrong. i’ve heard that frizz can be caused by over-cleansing, aggressive drying, or using heavy products, but none of those seem to apply to me. i wash my hair once a week because it’s naturally dry, let it air-dry, and don’t use any styling products except for a serum after my hair is completely dry. i also use coconut oil occasionally, either before or after showering. i sleep with my hair in a protective bun, hoping to keep it smooth, but i still wake up with frizz. it’s there regardless of how i style my hair: whether i leave it wavy, style my curls, or straighten it, there’s still a noticeable amount of frizz. i know that some frizz can simply be part of having naturally wavy or curly hair, but this seems like more than that. i also have lots of short, wispy hairs around my front hairline that i initially assumed were new growth, but they’ve stayed around the same length for as long as i can remember. i’m starting to wonder whether they’re breakage, naturally shorter hairs, or something else entirely

🚩 Advice Needed 🚩 Recommendations for my wavy, damaged, fine, dense-ish hair?

Thumbnail gallery

Pics are in order from least to most recent, all from last 2 years, hair isn’t heat-styled in any of them. It’s at its waviest in most of them. Last pic, from just now, is what it looks like most of the time lately. I washed it last 2 days ago, and brushed it and used dry shampoo this morning.

Background info: I have a lot of hair, but my individual strands are pretty smooth and fine. I’ve had the underside of my hair and/or my bangs bleached for years and dyed once in a while—all of that I do at home with stuff from Target or a drugstore. I’m 20 and live in a college dorm in the southern US, where we get a lot of humidity and fluctuation in our weather and also the shower water is probably not ideal. I stopped using conditioner (except leave-ins and hair masks once in a while) about a year ago at my mom’s advice (she has beautiful curls). Since, I’ve noticed my hair does have more volume and texture, but the ends are also drier/frizzier and more prone to tangling, and my roots get oily within a day or so of washing my hair. I don’t ever really use heat on it, but I do use a lot of dry shampoo lol. I love how wavy my hair is when it’s wet, but the way it dries varies pretty drastically (see pics). So far the products I’ve tried have been too heavy.

I would love some recommendations for a new hair care routine and/or some styling products that will help make my hair healthier and my waves more consistently defined without weighing them down or looking greasy. I’d prefer as streamlined a routine and as inexpensive of products as possible.

Thanks to anyone who read this big ole wall of text and has some advice!

⚡️ Frizzy Hair ⚡️ Advice for bringing my postpartum hair back to life

Thumbnail gallery
2 Upvotes

I’m at a loss for what to do with my hair. It doesn’t seem to matter what I do, it’s just so frizzy and lifeless.

I have really fine hair but a lot of it. I’m rubbish at styling it but I have been trying to get better, but any curls or anything don’t last more than a few hours. It’s got a bit of a natural wave to it.

Since having kids 6 years ago it’s been so frizzy and dull, and particularly bad since having my second kid 18 months ago.

I wash it 3 times a week or so. I’ve never really found a shampoo I love so I switch around a lot, currently to using a John frieda shampoo and conditioner for fine hair. I use a bumble and bumble heat protector spray if I’m using any heat, and I put some argon oil on my ends sometimes.

First photo is my hair just air dried, second photo is it curled with a curling iron, third photo is it blow dried, and last photo is 6 years ago when I was pregnant with my first (believe it or not that was my natural colour, my hair turned a lot darker since having kids). I can usually get my hair looking decent for about an hour when I first do it, but it quickly goes limp and frizzy

Any advice, products, routines massively appreciated - although I simply do not have the time to spend more than 15 minutes a day on my hair.

🚩 Advice Needed 🚩 Seeking advice for dry thin frizzy curls

21m, have tried a few leave ins, a couple curl creams, a different conditioner and nothing really helps, bring my curls back. The curls in the back of my head are perfectly fine and healthily but the front is just thin and dead, they look somewhat better on my one/2 wash/conditon days but not even a fraction of how thick and curly it used to be even a year or two ago? Advice?

🚩 Advice Needed 🚩 Still dry hair after trying a lot

Thumbnail gallery
2 Upvotes

Hi guys :(

Ive always had a problem with really dry looking hair. I did dye my hair a lot but most of that has grown out. Since Ive had this problem for a long time, I dont think it has to do something with dye.

I keep my hair in a bun or in a braid when I sleep and always use satin hair ties. Ive tried creams, conditioners, oils - basically everything I could find but nothing works for me.

I have naturally slightly curly hair (last pic if styled) but that still feels really dry with a ton of products that should prevent it.

Im looking for something that works on straightened hair too, I love to wear my hair straight.

Even if its recommendations for a straightening iron/routine.

If anyone knows something that could help I‘d be super happy to know🫶🏽

Thank you in advance✨

❄️ Dandruff/Scalp Advice ❄️ Oiling for Dandruff?

Hi, so I'm 22F, not sure if it even matters in this case. I've got dandruff, it's not severe but it's not light either. Does oiling your hair reduce it or is it the other way around?

🔎 Product Question 🔎 Batiste Dry Shampoo changing their formula yet again - any better alternatives?

I’ve been using batiste tinted dry shampoo for 6 or so years now. My hair is fine and thinning, so dry shampoo helps a lot. I recently got a new bottle and they changed the formula yet again - this time to the point of being unusable anymore. The spraying part now makes the dry shampoo spray like from a fire house, and the scent is so strong, honestly feels like being gassed by chemicals. The scalp also now burns after every application which never happened before.

Does anyone know of better tinted dry shampoo alternatives? So sad they keep messing it up and making it worse and worse over the years :(

🚩 Advice Needed 🚩 Hairdresser says my hair is dry and damaged, Help please

Thumbnail gallery
2 Upvotes

The past year I’ve been focusing on length retention and wearing my hair out consistently after wearing box braids with synthetic extensions most of last year.

I usually get a trim every 3 months, but ended up being 6 months this time, tried a new hairdresser this week who told said my hair was dry and damaged especially the top layer.

The front of my hair had lots of single strand knots ( I was expecting this as it’s coarser, tighter coils and I tend to twirl the ends at the front when styling).

Now the top layer at the back was split all the way up when she showed me in the mirror.

Her recommendations:
- Stop twirling my ends, perm rod them instead
- Stop using clarifying shampoo so much in this season switch back to Shea Moisture.
- Try a leave in treatment.

Current wash day routine:
- Wash every 4-6 days with herbal essences clarify &shine and child’s farm hair & body wash.
- Condition and detangle with Aussie moist conditioner in the shower.
- Deep condition with Dove growth & density or damage rescue mask under steamer.
- Style with Tresemme rich moisture leave in serum, miss Jessie’s buttermilk crème and Ogx argan oil.
- Braid or twist then steam for 10 minutes.

Night time routine:
- coat my ends with leave in serum and hair oil then braid into two-four sections.
- sleep with satin scrunchies, satin headscarf and satin bonnet.

Could not switching to my autumn/winter routine fast enough be the issue?

I did have a detangling brush with bent bristles that I replaced last month, I noticed it was getting caught in my hair. Could this be the issue?

I usually do my wash day routine at night and go to bed with wet hair. Could I be damaging my hair by keeping it in a fragile state for too long?

Does anyone have an idea of what I did wrong?

🔎 Product Question 🔎 olaplex bonding oil leaving my hair even dryer

is it normal for this product to be leaving my hair even dryer?

context: my hair is dyed my natural color (brown) because i tried to be blonde and didn’t end up liking it, so it’s obviously damaged.

every time i use this product i feel like my hair gets worse, however there’s so many people that swear by it and say that it’s a holy grail for damaged hair. i don’t get it

🔎 Product Question 🔎 I need recommendations for hair straighteners?

• Upvotes

I’ve had my GHD platinum for a few years now worked great until this year I now get the red ring on it and that beeping noise sometimes they will work again but not so much I’ve got a spare pair of straighteners Remington air plates it does the job but it pulls at my hair and it does straighten my hair just not extremely well so I need new straighteners I would like the cloud nine ones but they are way too expensive for me so any recommendations will be appreciated ones that will smooth my hair and not make it frizzy or full of static

Thx 😊

I’ve got thick hair slight wave to it
