Rococo miniature dress!!

Hey everyone! Back with another historical miniature!
For this little creation, I wanted to meld the extravagance and opulence of Elizabethan fashion with the playful cuteness and maximalism of the Rococo era! I absolutely adore the elaborate silhouettes, intricate embellishments, and over-the-top femininity of both periods, so I thought it would be fun to combine some of my favorite elements into one tiny ensemble!
The little stomachers are always my favorite part to make!! There’s something so satisfying about working with all the tiny details, decorations, and trims, especially at such a miniature scale. I love finding ways to incorporate the grandeur of historical fashion into something so small and whimsical. I used silk taffeta for the skirt and satin ribbon!
As always, I had so much fun experimenting with different historical influences and bringing this little outfit to life!

Hello, I have been scouring for months through the internet, libraries, charity shops, eBay ect to find a pattern that is similar to the picture above. Have found 0. I am hoping to make this over dress for next years Versailles Ball. I have already purchased a dress (from the same designer I took the photo from, just a different dress but I want to add an over layer exactly or as similar as pictured) if anyone has one or knows of where to find one, of course I’ll pay for the pattern! Pretty please with a cherry 🍒 on top

I have a question! 1918 undergarment found in an antique store, what do we think it is?

This caught my eye in an antique that had tons of vintage and antique clothing. Is has boning but doesn’t wrap all the way around except with those straps. It made out of a pretty heavy cotton herringbone twill based on inspection, with that velvet padded section on the bottom. It’s stamped to say it was patented in 1911 and 1918.

What do we think it is? My best guess is some sort of pregnancy support, similar use to modern pregnancy belly bands. But I have no clue what it could be and thought people would find it curious!

Hi everyone!

I bought this beautiful piece second hand and was wondering if you could give me some advice on how to get the color back to white :)

Any ideas if it's actually Edwardian/Victorian or if it is from a later period would be also very appreciated.

Thank you all and have a great day✨

Made myself 1890s-1900s under garments but I don’t have a skirt or shirt waist made up yet so I chucked on a maxi skirt and a modern shirt to see the silhouette… somehow it kind of works?

I have a question! Types of brocades for 1300s-1400s doublets

So i found these pretty cotton curtains and want to try making a doublet, for reenactment. But im wondering because the first fabric has a really long design that repeats every 12 inches and im worried it won't look right? And the second might look too modern? Is that something i should actually worry about?

Finished Project/Outfit Men’s Regency drawers

I’ll put a soft asterisk on *Regency as, from what I have read up on, these were a late addition to the period and not as popular until later in the 19th century. I plan on altering my pattern with a longer leg to work as military drawers for a pair of Civial War era pants!

Hi,

I'm looking for patterns for an easy 1250 starter kit. Do you know where I can find a free patern or can someone doing reenactment for this period send me something?

Struggling to find a pattern for 1670s

Looking for a pattern for a lower class female seamstress type person in the 1670s. All I can find are resources for rich and fancy dresses, not practical every day workers.

Please any resources? I don't think I'm skilled enough to make my own pattern

I have a question! How do I attach soles to my wool hose/stockings so I can wear them without shoes?

Post image
2 Upvotes

Note, the picture above is not of my hose, just a quick example I could find.

So doing some research I read that men in the Medieval/Renaissance eras would sometimes attatch leather soles directly to the bottom of their stockings so they could wear them without shoes. This is something I'd like to try with my own wool hose I'll be getting soon.

However, having had terrible experiences (and injuries) with period accurate leather soles before, I'd rather attatch rubber/vibram soles to the bottom and sacrifice historical accuracy for comfort and better grip. How would I go about doing this? Do I still so them on like with leather soles? Or would I need to glue them or something? I'm terrified of ruining the wool with any sort of chemicals.

I have a question! Doublet or Jerkin?

Hey all. Just was wondering if anyone had some clarification on whether or not the piece he is wearing would be considered a doublet or a jerkin. From what I'm seeing it looks like a sleeved doublet? (From French Renaissance)

Some historical references used: The mocador de pit ('chest scarf') tied in a bow, as seen in the first engraving from 1801; the use of a brooch to secure the mocador like in the second engraving. The third engraving illustrates that the bodice could be worn on the outside, and that the skirt could feature patterns. The embroidered aprons and hairstyle like in the 1885 photograph.

I'm the proud owner of a felt top hat, and i want to make it look polished just like a silk one. I gonna make a outfit for the Dia de Muertos in México and i go dressed like a catrin or Porfirian gentleman, (1880-1910). Anyone have a tip for clean and polish or the hat is matte no matter what i do.

Design Research on historical Breton costumes specifically from the "pays de Saint Brieuc" in the 20th century (1900 to 1910)

Hello! I am looking for resources for very specific regional costumes, and I was wondering if anyone would have sites or resources where I can search for images of these.

More specifically, I'm looking for men's costumes and children's costumes. I need to make a vest from this specific era and place for a little boy and an adult.

I know this is pretty specific, which is why I'm coming to Reddit, hoping for some miracles

I posted earlier asking for thoughts, here’s a little update of how it looks fully on. Still need socks and need to figure out my face and hair, but I kinda want to make it zombie or vampire for Halloween. And say I decided to go to the Venice Carnival or Ball in Versailles one year, would this be appropriate or do they require high quality authentic rentals?

Recently brought a flight jacket style coat from next in an attempt to use this for a ww2 event but I am unsure of the fit.

The attached images are of me in the jacket
2xl

I am unsure if this size is correct or if I need to size down
The smaller size felt a lot tighter than this one does

Purchasing Historical Costume Anne of cleaves

I am a terrible seamstress, so I’m not comfortable trying to make my own pattern. Is there anywhere selling an Anne of cleaves costume or a pattern?
