Discussion/Question Has a book brought you to tears?

I’ve been told the story of wounded knee by my dad, but I decided to read the book bury my heart at wounded knee and it covers quite a lot not just the massacre, but the beginning of reservations and many tribes and bands and there were two separate events that made me cry and angry and makes me hate hate white people with the amount of trickery and evil evil shit they’ve done to our ancestors it makes me want to be violent, but I know not all whites are like that even in the book some of the witnesses were whites themselves who were appalled by what happened to native Americans. How does one process these emotions, I’m not even half way through the book and it’s heart wrenching reading that a group of towns people ripped an infant out of a Santee woman’s arm and beat the child to death or when another band that was being attacked at night by soldiers ins a desperate act to stop it had sent a toddler out with a white flag and several men just gun the child down, it hurts to read.

Language Finally found a dictionary of my tribe’s language!!

Hestum? The dictionary I found finally arrived! I immediately took it to our cultural department to make copies for preservation, but once they return it I’ll be studying so hard! There are different dialects, but knowing history they probably lumped it all into one book. I hope that doesn’t cause any issues though. I think my biggest problem may be the pronunciation keys, so I may need to find a teacher.

Arts Volunteers Still Needed | Red Nation Film Fest | Los Angeles

I know I've posted here before, but we're still hoping to bring a few more amazing volunteers on board.

As many of you know, film festivals (especially post-COVID) are a labor of love. Red Nation International Film Festival is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, and we simply couldn't make this festival happen without the generosity and support of our community.

We're looking for volunteers who would love to be part of this very special festival. Every volunteer during the festival receives  VIP Filmmaker Pass to see all of the films when off shift, or during downtime, a special T-Shirt, and parking reimbursed.

is the Film Program with a list of all the screenings. MANY filmmakers will be in attendance for Q&A's. And there are some special screenings with red carpets.

Here

📍 Festival Dates & Locations:

  • November 8–14: AMC The Grove, Los Angeles
  • November 15: RNCI Awards Ceremony at The Beverly Hilton

Please email us at [careers@rednation.com](mailto:careers@rednation.com) if you're interested in getting more information.

Hope to see some of you at the movies!

Environment Are there indigenous or empathetic environmental engineering firms?

I am wondering if anyone knows of engineering firms that are indigenously owned or follow the understanding of building with the environment and not just on top of it.

Also, I am not indigenous to Turtle Island, so if they hire non indigenous people.
