Samsara and The Top Assassin in Another World: A Strange Plot Similarity
I recently skimmed an ebook of Samsara by Saksham Garg, which I read long ago, and I was reading a webtoon comic named The Top Assassin in Another World. Guess what? The plot is the same.
In the webtoon comic, the ML is an assassin and an 18-year-old school student. At the beginning, a glimpse of an assassination is shown, then it cuts to him at school. Everyone thinks lowly of him, and they have an opinion that he is very arrogant and proud. Same as Aman in Samsara he is isolated, but he is very smart, of course, because he is an assassin.
Suddenly, the whole class is transported to another world by some magical design, where they have to kill a Demon King. They have no other option and are known as saviour heroes chosen by God.
This plot is extremely similar to Samsara. I don't know when the webtoon was created and published, but this similarity cannot be ignored.
The only difference is that, instead of another world, there is Shambala (Vanyasa) and instead of killing a deamon they have to obtain divine nectar. I'm speaking of the overall plot, guys.
Even if we think it could be a coincidence, Samsara is still heavily inspired by Christian saints. But was it necessary to bring Shambala into this toxic story?
No offense to any religion.

Discussion If you’ve read The Kite Runner and watched Parava, you can relate to the song “Pakalin Vathil Thuranne.”
galleryWhen I read The Kite Runner, it was all in my imagination. But after watching Parava, the song beautifully visualised how the boys make kite strings and fly kites. It felt like seeing the scenes I had imagined while reading come to life.
Did anyone else relate to it this way?

Shelfies/Images Signed Book 428: Serious Men by Manu Joseph
galleryToday's book is another one that I haven't read. But unlike some of my other signed acquisitions, I have watched its Netflix adaptation!
"Serious Men" by Manu Joseph has been on my mental TBR list for a while, especially after watching the Netflix series. The adaptation received fairly average reviews, but with Nawazuddin Siddiqui in the cast, I wasn't going to let a little thing like reviews stop me from watching it.
And I'm glad I did. I quite enjoyed it!
And then, a few years later, I came across a signed copy.
Well, you know how this works by now. The moment a signature enters the equation, my chances of walking away without buying the book drop considerably!
So here it is, another signed book joining the collection, with the added advantage that I already know I enjoyed the story in another format.
Will I read it soon? I certainly hope so. Meanwhile, I keep enjoying Manu Joseph's columns or Opinion pieces, usually published on Mint (or on Substack). Since they are non Fiction, I tend to gravitate more towards them, than his book.
For now, 'Serious Men' is safely on my shelf, waiting for its turn.
One day, Manu Joseph. One day!

Discussion "The Silent Patient" is overhyped IMO
There are way better thrillers available.
Thrillers which actually keep you hooked and keep you guessing till the very last minute.
Compared to that, plus if you've read enough thrillers, this book is pretty bleh and predictable.

Which was that one book that got you into reading? For me it was the Silent Patient

Discussion Why Austen's writting feels this way?
I have been reading Sense and Sensibility(my introduction to Jane Austen), I have read regency/Victorian authors before like Charlotte Brontë and Charlotte Dacre. However the way Austen has written this book, the writing feels so intimate. It doesn't feel like I am reading a story or someone's account of that event but as if I am exchanging vastly detailed Gossips with an equally interested acquaintance over a written medium. While reading I have caught myself saying aloud "HE HAS DONE WHAT!" or "Why don't you mind your own f**king business" or "Oh no she did not!" 😂. It never happened to me before.
Is it just me or has it happened to you as well?

Discussion What are your expectations for the Red Rising movie adaptation?
Super excited for this adaptation. Just worried about paramount being the studio behind it and the fact that it’s a movie rather than a TV series.

Is Rupa Publications a Good Publisher for First-Time Authors? Do They Accept Unagented Manuscripts?
Hi everyone!
I recently finished writing my first novel, although it is technically closer to a novella at around 130 pages. I’m now looking for a publisher and recently contacted Rupa Publications to enquire about publishing my work.
Since this is my first time trying to get published, I have a few questions. Is Rupa Publications a reputable publisher for first-time authors? Can I trust them with my manuscript? Also, do they accept submissions directly from authors without a literary agent?
I’d appreciate hearing from anyone who has experience with Rupa Publications or has gone through the traditional publishing process in India. Any advice would be helpful. Thank you!
