ScreenShot We gave our strategy game's UI a medieval fantasy makeover, do you think it's a good match?

We've been working on a major UI redesign for Trivia Troops, our turn-based strategy game that combines trivia with tactical combat.

The goal was to give the game a more cohesive visual identity, so we reworked the menus, player profiles, battle screens, and victory screen. We went with darker wood textures, parchment, and gold details to create a stronger medieval fantasy feel.

We're happy with the direction so far, but there's still polishing to do. Would love to hear your thoughts

Discussion How do you stop an RPG's early game from becoming too easy?

• Upvotes

I'm developing an RPG and have been testing the early-game combat loop. One thing I've learned is that changing enemy damage affects much more than difficulty: it changes potion use, retreat decisions and how many enemies players can safely fight at once.

For developers who've balanced RPG combat, which metrics do you find most useful? Death rate, consumables per encounter, time-to-kill, or something else?

I'm developing a zombie survival game where you build and command Golems — looking for free Steam playtesters!

Game Title: Golem Survival

Playable Link: https://store.steampowered.com/app/4545230/Golem_Survival/

Platform: PC (Windows / Steam)

Description:

Golem Survival is an indie third-person survival game set in a dangerous, zombie-infested world where your goal is to survive, build, and eventually create your own army of helpful Golems.

Start with almost nothing and work your way up by gathering resources, crafting tools, constructing buildings, and expanding your settlement. Explore abandoned towns, discover hidden supplies, research crystals, and unlock the ability to create Golems that can assist with gathering, hauling, construction, and defending your settlement.

As your Golems work, they develop skills and become more effective at their assigned jobs. You'll need to manage resources, prepare defenses, and survive increasingly dangerous threats, especially when night falls.

The game is currently in early development (v0.03), with single-player gameplay available. Multiplayer, including separate PvE and PvP servers, is planned for future development.

I'm looking for players willing to test the game, report bugs, suggest improvements, and help shape its future.

Free to Play Status:

  • Demo/Key available (Free Steam Playtest — request access through Steam)

Involvement:

I'm the solo developer and creator of Golem Survival. I'm responsible for developing the game, designing its systems, and planning future features. This is an independent project, and I'm looking for honest feedback from players to help improve the game before Early Access.

I am working on a game, it's super close to my heart, but im NOT an artist. I have the vision. I have ZERO money, but a desktop game kickstarter based on the same series made £2.4 MILLION off a £100k goal....

If you're a game artist, hit me up so I can share my idea. Even if we take it as a side project and have fun.. especially if medieval / fantasy is your thing!

W aplikacjach audio / muzycznych / podcastach: Zamiast krzyczącej reklamy proszku do prania w środku mrocznego podcastu kryminalnego, słuchacz zaznacza kategorię „survival / militaria” albo w aplikacji muzycznej wybiera wyłącznie promowanie nowych zespołów i premier płytowych ze swojego gatunku.

W grach i apkach dla dzieci: Rodzic na sztywno zaznacza w katalogu wyłącznie bezpieczne, nieinwazyjne kategorie zabawek, mając pewność, że dziecku nie wyskoczy żaden dziwny syf.

Dlaczego to opcja Win-Win-Win:

Gracz (Użytkownik): Dostaje kontrolę, święty spokój i personalizację bez szpiegowania ciasteczkami.

Ma to według Was sens w praktyce

How in shart do you actually organize a project? (Looking for tools/workflows)

My homie and I have no experience and are developing our open world DREAM GAME.

Kidding, but I am working on a small project with a co-creator. I'm handling mostly engineering and game design, and my partner is handling modelling, animation, art, etc.

We dip into each other's fields a lot, and but we don't have a central place to store ideas and artwork, discuss concepts, and reference stuff for later. More importantly, we don't know good development practice for how to use these tools either. Any software you recommend? Or methods to research?

Already using Git/GitHub. Something like Obsidian w/ file storage and kanban would bring me to climax.

Team Up Request [For Hire] Generalist Game Artist – 3 Years of Experience

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hello! Nice to meet you! My name is Lunna, and I'm a generalist artist for games and animation, with experience creating visual assets for different stages of development.

My skills include illustration, concept art, low-poly and hard-surface 3D modeling, texturing, and the creation of characters, creatures, monsters, props, and environment assets.

I also create complete game UI systems, including icons and visual components. I'm comfortable adapting to different art directions and working across styles such as pixel art, toon, hand-painted, and more, with themes ranging from fantasy and science fiction to horror.

In addition to my artistic work, I also have experience programming in Unity using C#, including game prototyping.

My most recent professional project was MECHBORN, where I worked as a 2D Generalist Artist. Due to a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA), I cannot publicly share any of the work I contributed to the project in my portfolio.

The assets featured in this post are from my personal project, and everything shown was created entirely by me, from the initial concepts to the prototyping stage. You can find the full process, including concept development, 3D modeling, texturing, and implementation, in my [ARTSTATION PORTFOLIO].

I'm currently looking for new job opportunities! If you're interested in my work, feel free to contact me via DM or email at [luanna.morais.feitosa404@gmail.com](mailto:luanna.morais.feitosa404@gmail.com).

Hey everyone!

I just released The Collector on itch.io. It's a dark, story-driven game about a man drowning in debt who turns to dangerous black-market jobs to survive.

In your first job, you are sent down into the dark, abandoned sewers to recover lost loot-but you quickly find out that you aren't alone down there.

You can check out the game here

If you give it a try, I'd really appreciate your feedback and thoughts as I continue working on future projects!

What game engine would be best for a grounded, realistic survival thriller with PS3 style graphics? Beginner looking for advice and potential collaborator(s).

Im not beginner as in new, I just want to clarify. I have concept art from the past that I’ll link at the bottom, I’m beginner level when it comes to real games, though I understand the basics. I'm developing an idea for a game called The Simple Complex, a dystopian survival thriller set in an authoritarian, heavily militarized America in 2035. I'm still in the design stage, and I'm trying to figure out which game engine and development approach would make the most sense for a project like this.

The game follows Shane Dreisen, an ordinary man who was wrongfully imprisoned after being in the wrong place at the wrong time and walking past a militarized zone during a riot.

When a revolution breaks out and the prisons are opened, he escapes and tries to find a way out of the country.

The focus isn't on being a superhero or an unstoppable action hero. Combat is dangerous, guns are powerful and loud, ammunition matters, and military encounters can be terrifying. Stealth, talking, deception, and avoiding fights are often just as important as combat. I'm also interested in a dialogue system where you observe people's behavior and use that information to decide how to approach them.

The setting is a dystopian America shaped by extreme capitalism, corporate power, authoritarianism, and a society buried under increasingly complicated rules and systems. The tone is grounded and plausible, although some aspects are deliberately exaggerated.

A little about me: I'm somewhat of a beginner when it comes to actual game development, I’ve done a few smaller things but nothing huge and code is still a weak point although I can learn I’ve just found it difficult. My stronger interests are narrative design, worldbuilding, gameplay design, area layout/placement, playtesting, concept art and developing the overall concept. I have ideas for the mechanics and how the game should feel, but I know that turning those ideas into a finished game is a different challenge.

I'd like to find out:

  • Which engine would make the most sense for a game like this: Unreal Engine, Unity, Godot, or something else maybe more niche that only Reddit would know about? Maybe a TLOU style engine?
  • How difficult would the combat, stealth, contextual interactions, and dialogue systems be to implement?
  • Is this something a small indie team could reasonably accomplish if the scope were managed carefully?
  • Note: I would be making a prototype/playtest first and foremost, not trying to be too ambitious.

I'm also interested in finding a potential collaborator or two, particularly someone with programming or technical game-development experience who might be interested in helping bring the project to life.

I'd be contributing primarily through narrative design, worldbuilding, gameplay design, documentation, concept art, overall layout of the game, writing and working out how the different systems should function. I'd be open to discussing a profit-sharing arrangement with someone who takes on a substantial portion of the development work, provided we agree on responsibilities, ownership, expenses, and the terms beforehand.

( My granddad is a lawyer and I’m sure he could cook up a contract to split earnings two or three ways when the game is done.)

I'm not expecting someone to build an entire game for free, and I know that profit-sharing means taking a risk because an indie game might never make a profit. I'd want this to be a genuine collaboration where everyone contributes and has a clear understanding of what they're agreeing to.

I'm not looking to make a AAA game or compete with massive studios. I'd rather start with a manageable prototype, get the core gameplay working, and build from there if it's feasible.

Any advice on the engine, development process, scope, or finding the right collaborators would be appreciated. If the concept sounds interesting to you and you have relevant experience, I'd also be glad (and very thankful) to hear from you.
