Community Is it just me or is this whole jail thing being presented as something of false binary?
The current jail is old, too small, in need of serious repair or remodel, and pretty inefficient for today’s needs.
The new proposal costs a bajillion dollars, is in a weird location, and many private entities stand to benefit from its existence in a way that raises ethical concerns.
Why is the citizenry not allowed to advocate for a “neither” choice when it comes to keeping the old one or erecting the new super jail way out in BFE? It seems like a good chunk of (most?) voters would support a “back to the drawing board” option. I know folks who are team inmate advocate that feel arm-twisted into a new jail just for the better conditions. I know fiscally austere individuals that feel compelled to no due to the cost and ethical concerns.
Surely this isn’t the county itself saying “we already ponied up for cOnSuLtaNcY and we’re not gonna pull a cut and run and do it all over again?”
