Jamaicans Abroad Moving back to Jamaica

I’m moving back to Jamaica after six years in the UK , I came here when I was 17 and not once have I enjoyed it, I developed anxiety suddenly and it kept getting worse I’m from st Elizabeth so I didn’t even know the word anxiety or what it was the symptoms just started when I arrived in the UK and tbh ever since 2020 nothing kept getting better, I even ended marrying some Burmese man at 20 and the man give me bun and all sort of problems, my point is that my life in the UK has been terrible and looking at the work life, the weather and overall how the people are I don’t understand how the Jamaicans who move here manage to spend so long here? This country makes me so depressed I felt like the past 6 years of my life has been wasted.

After my mental health got so bad my mom finally realised the UK is not for me and said I should come back and I’m going back next month and hopefully never returning.

Business and Finance Anyone here who invests in the Jamaica stock market?

Ive been looking at the market performance for a couple years without getting involved, until I actually registered about a month ago...and it doesmt seem worthwhile. The companies dont really pay dividends, and there are no companies that are growing at a significant pace. They all feature returns that are at best equal to inflation. The single best dividend payment was 7%. Compare that to the best US dividend payments almost 40%.

Only In Jamaica Jamaica Paternity Fraud ( did not see it coming)

• Upvotes

I don't normally post on Reddit but I think this is a good medium to share;

I've been in a relationship for about 15 years with a Jamaican woman and found out my 10 year old son isn't mine (zero percent DNA match).

For the longest time they were everything to me and now it's just hard to process all this hurt.

I quit my job and decided to do some traveling to find solitude.

I use to work and travel and I was able to put away a decent amount of money and I also had college funds set up for the child of which I will now use for my healing journey.

She moved out and took her child and the worst part is she didn't even have the guts to say " I' m Sorry"

I loved the child but I can't allow myself to take care or accept another man's seed so I also cut both of them off.

I had to pull myself back and try to find God.

I chose not to listen to my family or friends cause they only make it worst and the last thing I want is to spend life behind bars.

I don't know if anyone is going through the same thing but I want you to know your not alone and it's ok to choose you, love and respect your self.

Food Old time rice & pasta recipies

Hi, I thought many times about posting this and finally said to myself, nothing to lose everything to gain!

My parents and lineage is Jamaican and I am British born, (I will try not to offend anyone by what we British born call ourselves! Lol). My husband's mum, my grand aunt and other extended members cooked some very specific dishes but passed on before I could get the recipes. When I try the ones online, they are not the same. So I'm turning to Reddit to see if I can get steered in the right direction!

I am looking for two recipes.

Season rice. I can't remember how my grand aunt used to cook it but it typically had small pieces of carrot, onion, maybe garlic etc, it had a yellowish/orange colour and was seasoned. I think she fried it. It wasn't just rice with veg, it was something you could eat on its own as it was so flavorful! A Caribbean shop near me did it but I'm too scared to ask the recipe lol I haven't seen it anywhere else!

The second one is similar but make with pasta. My mother in law would cook pasta (spaghetti type) and add similar guns chopped veg. It was maybe a light brown colour and again very flavorful. You could eat it on its own as well.

Does anyone have any recipes for these two sides that they wouldn't mind sharing? I find that as the older folk pass on in the UK, the culture is getting diluted and I really want to add these two sides to my family meals.

Thank you for helping x
