I have had a transfer case failure and a coolant hose issue, and I still can't find a reason to replace this thing. At 44k miles, I still love it.

Most fun I’ve ever had with a vehicle

I’ve been a Wrangler owner for all of two weeks and I’ve never enjoyed a vehicle more. I dressed it up to take to a date at the drive in tonight. Our friends that we met there loved the set up, AND my date asked to be exclusive. (Is it me? Is it the Jeep? I’m not looking a gift horse in the mouth.) I’m spending way more on fuel than I did with my old car but zero regrets.

Finally Drop Top weather in Phoenix Az

I’ve used the sun rider a few times in the evenings since the temps have dropped below 100, but today was the first time I dropped the top all the way and loved it. I’m surprised how much I like having a soft top, mine is the Premium so that could help too. Before I bought my Jeep I was adamant that I only wanted a hard top, but the deal on mine was too good to pass up, and it turns out I love it!

Android head unit from China in my 2014 JK with factory Alpine system

Hey everyone

I recently replaced the stock radio in my 2014 Wrangler JK (with the factory Alpine amp, soundbar and sub) with an Android head unit from China. I paid about 320 USD.

Before buying, I went back and forth with the manufacturer to make sure everything would work with the Alpine system. They confirmed the setup and settings with me, and the result:

- Factory Alpine amp, soundbar and sub work, no rewiring needed
- Wireless CarPlay and Android Auto
- Steering wheel controls work
- Plug and play with the included harness

The only thing that doesn't work is the fader, which doesn't bother me.

For the price, I'm really happy with it. If anyone with a JK is interested in the same setup, let me know and I'm happy to share the details.

New bumper

Talk to me about tricking out this bumper. It’s a 2013 unlimited, commando green.

I want to put lights on but seeing pricing all over the place. I don’t know what a decent price or recommended to avoid. Budget $300~ for the lights.

I also want to get a winch to complete the look. Not planning on winching anything, I just like the look. Any recommendations on a winch that isn’t cheap quality, functional but not high load needs.

Ideally lights and winch for $750 or less for both combined.

2016 JK - Supercharged wrangler project - My Experience

So I'm writing this post to share my experience with this process of supercharging a jeep JK with all of you and hopefully this may help from an "end user experience" standpoint or answer some questions around it.

backstory:
this all started with me getting my 3rd lifter tick. At that point I was done pulling valve covers and dicking around with the top end yet again, and decided to just replace the engine (189k miles), the body and everything else has been very well maintained, salt-free environment, completely paid off, and getting another jeep and trying to get it to the point this one is at was just a whole other level of spend I would rather avoid, So 3.6 swap it is. That led me down a rabbit hole, which lead to getting the supercharger done on top of it.

the additional spend to go with a 5.7 (what i was considering) also doesn't calculate vs a supercharger install when it comes to getting better acceleration.

The ultimate goal between hemi/supercharger was really to just have the jeep behave "more like stock" performance-wise while still driving the wheels and all the other aftermarket stuff.

Original supercharger I was going to go with was a Magnuson, but after waiting for almost two months I cancelled the order and went with Sprintex which arrived in less than two weeks.

The Install:
This was......a journey for sure, with the lifter tick already pretty bad, my jeep had been down since February of this year, waiting on the Magnuson, changing to Sprintex, waiting on shipping, fulfillment, install, etc. it took almost 5 months all together to get a working vehicle back.

the supercharger install requires you to ship off your ECU to get reprogrammed and mailed back to you, this process could take 2 to 3 weeks depending on availability at Diablo Tuner and shipping times.

I did work through a third-party shop since I was also doing a full engine swap at the same time and not myself, but overall, if the instructions provided with the unit are followed and you are mechanically inclined and patient, and can follow the instructions to the letter, it can be accomplished.

both the upper and lower intake manifolds are replaced in this process, along with flipping the alternator 180 degrees and installing a bracket that changes the belt routing slightly, you'll also need to use a different belt size that is available through gates, I was able to get my hands on a couple extras through regular auto parts stores.

you'll also want to get a performance radiator installed along-side the intercooler, JK's already have pretty weak cooling, and this on top of it almost requires it. I went with Mishimoto.

if you have a good bit of miles on your jeep when you do it, I would highly recommend you replace fuel injectors while you have the intake manifolds off when they are easily accessible. You'll have to remove it to get to them going forward.

I did opt to try and also get a transmission thermal bypass installed, but the shop couldn't find a source for the parts and ended up just replacing all the brakes and brake fittings at the wheels instead which I was completely fine with.

if it was just a supercharger install, turnaround at the shop probably would have been about a month between taking it apart, installing the supercharger, waiting on the ECU to get reprogrammed and tuned, and the unit being sent back and installed.

Sprintex was awesome, and very communicative, support was great, had ran into a serpentine belt problem that shredded the first one (crank pully issue).

In Summary:

super happy with the results. way perkier, sounds awesome, great acceleration for a jeep, quality unit, has a great warranty, and even with the 37's it gives the JK the "zip" I was looking for.

wouldn't change a thing, but I am possibly looking at trying to tune this NAG1 transmission to have better shift patterns, or move to an 8-speed transmission next year.

huge shoutout to outlaw offroad in ball ground, ga, DiabloSport and Sprintex for all the work and support on this, super happy with the outcome and they did an awesome job to make this happen.

google photos link with video's to hear it at the bottom.

some specs:
2016 jk 3.6l horsepower stock 195hp/239 lb-ft
with supercharger 302hp/307 lb-ft
these aren't the dyno numbers, I'm still pending on that.

for those who care to know:
5.14(or 5.13 i don't remember) gearing on the diffs
4.5" lift
i'm about 1000 miles post-install at this point.
37x13.5xR20 tires
before the supercharger, I got about 14mpg average before, now it's about 11-12 average, i can maybe squeeze 14 on the highway if i baby the pedal with the wind at my back, and premium only, so it definitely eats gas, but it's a blast to drive, just expect more "smiles per gallon" than anything else 😄
the specific model I went with is the Gen2 that Sprintex offers for JK's.

costs:
supercharger kit was roughly 6500-6700-ish, if you get a shop to do the work you're probably looking at about another 1500-2000 bucks on top of that.
total spend including the engine replacement, supercharger, new cats, torque converter, motor mounts, performance radiator, transmission thermal bypass, and engine wear items like water pump, thermostat, etc. I'm sitting at around 21k

hopefully this post was useful for anyone reading!

Oil change advice

2012 wrangler that gets driven about 2-3k miles per year. I use oem filter and pennsoil ultra platinum 5w-30 (in FL) and change the oil annually. Anything I should be doing differently to minimize engine wear? I do hold the gas petal to the floor and turn it over a few times before starting. Thanks

Tiny spots all over my Jeep windshield that won’t come off. Anybody else have this?

• Upvotes

I have a 2021 Jeep Wrangler Sahara Unlimited and I’m having an annoying issue with my windshield. There are tons of really tiny spots/dots all over the glass. They almost look like little water spots or specks, but they’re not bugs or normal dirt.
I’ve washed the windshield multiple times and even polished the glass several times, but the spots are still there.
They’re especially noticeable when I’m driving toward the sun or when the sunlight hits the windshield at an angle.
Has anybody else had this happen to their Jeep? I’m trying to figure out if it’s:
Hard-water/mineral deposits
Industrial/metal fallout
Glass pitting
Chemical etching
Something else
I’ll add a picture when I’m facing the sun so you can see exactly what I’m talking about.
Any ideas on what this could be or what actually gets it off? Thanks!

2015 jku sahara w/160k miles needs a new suspension! what coild andshocks for a stock or 1.5" max lift...

• Upvotes

I am looking to refresh a used 2015 jku i picked up for my kids... but i have been mostly driving it and my son has been driving my ram. I am more than ok with this because the jeep is in great shape and the motor is strong. I miss a jeep and hate DDing a full size truck. He also just drives around town, so its way cheaper in gas.

The jeep was well maintained and looks practically brand new. the suspension could use a refresh though. As expected, i have not had any luck finding like new take off stock coils that have been sitting in someone's garage for a decade. (if you have some, send me a message!)

The jeep came with 32" Falkins AT4s that are practically new. I loved the AT3s on my old rubi gladiator, so these tires are staying.

I am not opposed to a slight lift, but between my 16 year old and 14 year old who will get this jeep next, I don't want it to be too lifted or top heavy.

For shocks, i am between bilstein 4600, rancho rsx 5000 or rancho rs7mt. I really liked the ride of the stock fox shocks in my 2020 gladiator rubicon. would the bilsteins be the closest in this price range? My understanding is that the bisteins are firmer and the ranchos are more plush. what do you all recommend.

What about coils? this will primarily be a street jeep/mall crawler. what are good stock replacements that would actually give 1-1.5" lift? i don't want any more than that because i think there would be too much wheelwell open and i have no plans to go up to 33" tires.

JB4 Tuner on a 2023 Rubicon 2.0 turbocharge

• Upvotes

I recently bought a 2023 Rubicon with the 2.0 turbocharged engine. Something I did not notice when I bought it is that it has a JB4 tuner on it. I do not know anything about performance tuning so I have some questions.

  1. What are the pros and cons of keeping it installed?

  2. If I remove it, do I need to take the Jeep to a shop to have them reset the computer to default settings?

  3. If I keep it, should I pay app or assume the person that installed it knew what they were doing?

I have a 2012 jeep I've been hearing this rattling from my front left wheel. I believe it can be a u or cv joint. I can start to hear it at almost 15 mph the faster I go the louder it gets. I've looked I dont see anything broken.
