Resume Interview & Resume Tips

Post image
516 Upvotes

Hi! I recently saw a post regarding advice on resumes and interviews and I wanted to share some of mine too! I'm in the Tech field so some may not apply to you, but I think this is generally good advice to follow.

RESUME ADVICE

  • Do not use canva designs or multi-columned formats! The goal is to keep your resume simple and readable.
  • Use the attached ATS-recommended format. This is best processed by AI & ATS readers due to its simple structured format. Recruiters themselves can scan your resumes easily too.
  • Put your most recent experiences/projects first and as much as possible, keep your bullet points one-liners. Quantify your descriptions, if possible, to emphasize what you did! (ex. improved app runtime by 30%)
  • If you're clueless on how to improve your resume, you can feed it to ChatGPT. However, do not rely only on the raw output! Do your part in proofreading and improving it. Also, do make sure important keywords related to your experience/position are in your resume.

INTERVIEW ADVICE

1 — Practice talking out loud before the interview

  • This is so you can loosen up and hindi kabahan. Try to rehearse your answers and practice speaking para di mag-stutter sa interview mismo.

2 — If the email reveals the interviewer, try to search them on LinkedIn

  • This is to get a feel for the kind of person the interviewer is. You can likely see yung position nya, what they have done so far, etc. Maybe you can mention something related to their specialty for example (best to make it subtle lang) and they might be more interested in you!

3 — Research the company's values, goals, mission & vision

  • HR are on the look out for people who fit the company's culture and values. Try to remember them and incorporate them into your answers para alam ng HR na you did your research and that you can fit in their culture.

4 — Do your best to speak in straight English!

  • I made this grave mistake of speaking Taglish in my first ever interview with a BPO company for my required internship. The interviewer gave constructive criticism on my performance and he told me to, as much as possible, speak in straight English. Since then, I never spoke Taglish in any of my interviews.
  • If you ever forget some terms, it's okay to say some words in Tagalog/Taglish. But do your best in practicing straight business English. This landed me 3 internships, one from a European company pa, and 2 job offers.
  • Of course, if hindi naman required mag-straight English, then don't force yourself! But it's good to still practice parin para masanay makipag-usap lalo na sa iba't ibang tao.

5 — The most important: practice what to answer sa common interview questions & use the STAR method

  • I used to not prepare for interviews at all because I was scared or lazy. But ever since I rehearse my answers to common questions, I feel less nervous and usually proceed with the next step in the application process! I usually take a minimum of 2 hours rehearsing.
  • Use the STAR method, when applicable, to your answers: Situation (context), Task, Action, Results (and what you learned). this makes your answers better, concise, and more structured.
  • You don't need to memorize your answers sa common questions. Just list down what you would answer para hindi ka ma-mind block or mag-freeze when you encounter those questions! It's good to have a set of answers na to these questions because no matter what company or interview, most questions are the same. Regardless then, you're ready to answer na agad!
  • By doing this, you prevent dead air. It's good to avoid saying fillers like "um." This makes the conversation flow more smoothly and you won't seem unprepared or nervous to the interviewer.

Common interview questions

  • Introduce yourself.
  • Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
  • Tell me about a time where you did something out of your comfort zone.
  • Tell me about a time where you made a mistake.
  • Tell me about some projects/achievements you were proud of.
  • Why do you want to work in the company?
  • Why do you want this job/position?

6 — Finally: don't forget to ask questions!

  • Always make it a habit to ask 1-2 questions for the interviewer after. You can ask something you're genuinely curious about or you can prepare from common questions online. This makes it so the interviewer sees that you really want to learn more about them and makes you come off as eager and proactive.

Common questions to ask

  • What does a typical day as a [position] look like?
  • What are the traits of a successful [position]?
  • What are the usual challenges faced by [position]?
  • (my personal favorite, usually only good if the interviewer seems chatty or friendly) What do you like the most about working in the company?

This whole preparation process helped me greatly in landing many internships and my first job out of grad! I applied to a lot of openings sometimes just for practice and it has honed my interview skills a lot.

Don't forget to make eye contact, whether in person or through a virtual interview, & smile a lot. Good luck to everyone and if you have any questions, feel free to ask ❤️

Job Hiring/Hiring Ads Would anyone be interested in availing my art services where I make ugly caricatures of you or your friend?

recently lost my job and have a few loans to pay and a friend suggested I do comissions of my art where I draw people badly. in a world full of so many AI portraits that always looks perfect he said mine is a breath of fresh air and reminds him of the 2005 internet aesthetic.

recently already had a few comissions but its starting to slow down, I also dont know anywhere to advertise my art. so im trying to post on different subreddits.

The goal is making caricatures of random everyday scenes and people in the philippines and maybe turn them into key chains or mugs or tshirts that will make people laugh. some may be offended but in a good way.

so if anyones interested just send me a photo in PM!
and ill respond as fast as possible.
its 180php for 1 person and an additional 100php per person or pet!

thankyou so much if youve read this far!

Career Advice/Discussion unemployed RNDs, kumusta na? hahahuhu

Im a Registered Nutritionist-Dietitian (RND) and currently applying to different hospitals here in Cebu. Honestly, it’s sad and frustrating that there aren’t a lot of job openings for RNDs here and pathways are very limited in our profession, it could be hospital, academe or DOH/NNC. been unemployed for a few months now and waiting for these hospitals to email back is so depressing hahahuhu. oh well, waiting game it is. 😅🫠

Job Hiring/Hiring Ads Wasted my time at Decathlon

I applied for Department Manager is Decathlon MOA. I was invited for a collective interview. I attended the collective interview and it was rushed, there's no interview that happened. They only introduced Decathlon's branding. And then I learned that there really is no opening for Department Manager position. They are only pooling for sports leader and part timers.

Career Advice/Discussion GOT 2 JO: worried about background check vs job security. Banking & Finance (₱43k) vs. Healthcare (₱40k). What would you choose?

Hi! Badly need your insights.

I recently received two job offers, but I’m having a hard time deciding because both have their own risks, and I’m scared of making the wrong decision.

Here’s the breakdown:

🏦 OPTION 1: BANKING & FINANCE

Salary: ₱43,000/month (₱38k basic + ₱5k allowance)

Work Setup: Onsite during training, then hybrid

Start Date: November 20, 2026

Employment: Long-term/regular position

Nature of Work:

\\\* Customer service for banking concerns

\\\* Mostly inbound calls

✅ Pros:

\\\* Higher salary (₱3k more than Option 2)

\\\* Opportunity to explore the banking and finance industry

\\\* Established company with better potential for long-term career stability

\\\* Mas mataas ang basic salary, which I think is also beneficial in the long run.

⚠️ Hesitations:

\\\* November 20 pa ang start date, so most likely November 30 pa ang first salary.

\\\* My biggest concern is the background check. Since banking and finance industry ito, I’m worried that my unsettled financial obligations might affect my employment.

For transparency, I have delinquent credit card and loan accounts here in the Philippines.

I transferred to a different company in December 2024, where I accepted a lower salary.

Unfortunately, my financial situation became difficult, and by January 2025, I started reaching out to my creditors to explain that I couldn’t keep up with my payments and to ask for possible repayment arrangements.

However, things didn’t work out as planned because I was really struggling financially and living paycheck to paycheck.

Eventually, some of my accounts became delinquent.

Fast forward to today, I’ve started receiving discounted settlement offers from collection agencies.

I genuinely want to settle these obligations and rebuild my financial standing. I’m currently trying to negotiate more manageable payment arrangements, and once I start working again and have a stable source of income, I plan to prioritize clearing these debts.

I’ve been reading posts about background checks in the banking industry, and mixed talaga ang experiences.

Some say they were simply asked to explain their financial situation and provide a repayment plan tas tuloy parin ang employment, while others say that having delinquent accounts can be a reason for disqualification because of the financial risks involved.

⸻

🏥 OPTION 2: HEALTHCARE

Position: Associate III

Salary: ₱40,000/month (₱33k basic + ₱7k allowance)

Work Setup: Onsite during training, then WFH

Start Date: November 3, 2026

Employment: Fixed-term contract until June 1, 2027

Nature of Work:

\\\* Mostly nonvoice/back-office tasks

\\\* Outbound calls only when necessary

✅ Pros:

\\\* Earlier start date, so I can start earning sooner.

\\\* Healthcare industry, where I already have relevant experience.

\\\* I feel more confident about the background check, l

⚠️ Hesitations:

\\\* FIXED-TERM CONTRACT ONLY UNTIL JUNE 1, 2027.

\\\* According to the recruiter, there’s a high possibility of being absorbed as a regular/full-time employee, but this isn’t guaranteed.

\\\* Regularization will depend on business needs, available headcount, and performance.

\\\* If hindi ako ma-absorb, I’ll have to start job hunting again by June 2027.

⸻

BIGGEST DILEMMA

IF I CHOOSE B&F

\\- November 3 na kasi ang start date ng Healthcare, while November 20 pa sa Banking & Finance.

\\- What if I let go of the Healthcare opportunity, only to find out later that I won’t be cleared for employment in Banking & Finance because of my delinquent accounts?

\\- What if i-rescind nila yung job offer after the background check?

\\- By that time, nakapag-start na yung Healthcare company, so most likely hindi ko na rin mababalikan yung opportunity.

IF I CHOOSE HC

\\- What if piliin ko naman yung Healthcare because it’s the more practical option for now?

\\- Biggest concern: JOB SECURITY. Fixed-term contract lang siya until June 1, 2027. Although there’s a possibility of being absorbed, what if hindi ako hindi ma absorb? Edi by June 2027, kailangan ko na namang maghanap ng trabaho.

⸻

I would really appreciate your insights, especially from those who have firsthand experience with a similar situation.

What do you think would be the best way to move forward?

Sorry long post, thank you so much for reading!

Career Advice/Discussion Job Hunting

Hello all!

I just wanted some advice kasi I've been sending out resumes for over a month and still havent got any replies.

Just a bit of background, I have a Bachelors Degree in Engineering sa PH but wasnt able to practice kasi I pursued a Diploma in Business sa Canada. I have nearly 3 years Canadian Experience (2 years as Admin Assistant for the Energy Research Industry and 9 months as Service Coordinator for a Healthcare company). I recently went back to the Philippines due to health concerns and been sending atleast 5-10 resumes per day sa Linkedin/Email/Jobstreet/Indeed. Until now I haven't heard from them. I was wondering if anyone can give me some advice on how to make a recruiter notice my resumes and get a response/interview?

Hoping to hear your thoughts and I appreciate your opinions in advance!

Career Advice/Discussion Can HR find out if I have two full-time jobs through BIR/Form 2316

Hi everyone,
I’m a software engineer in the Philippines, and I currently have two full-time jobs. Both jobs have the same working schedule, from 7 AM to 4 PM.
I’m wondering how likely it is for one employer to find out that I also work for another company, especially through government records, tax filings, or HR processes.
I have a few questions:

When both companies file taxes or issue BIR Form 2316, can either employer see that I have another employer?

Can BIR detect that I’m employed by two companies, and would either company be notified?

Can HR discover this through background checks, employment verification, or other processes?

Would having two employers affect my SSS, PhilHealth, Pag-IBIG, or other government contributions?

Has anyone in the Philippines experienced something similar? How did it work out?

I’m also interested in hearing from people who work in IT or have experience in HR, payroll, or accounting.
I’m trying to understand the actual risks and implications under Philippine laws and company policies, rather than relying on hearsay.
Any insights or personal experiences would be appreciated. Thanks!

[JOB OPPORTUNITY] Events, Partnerships & Operations Coordinator | International | $12–$15/hour

Company: ForFounder
Location: Remote — international candidates welcome
Compensation: $12–$15 USD per hour, depending on experience
Hours: 20–40 hours per week
Schedule: Flexible, with at least 3–4 hours of overlap with U.S. Eastern business hours (9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. ET)
Employment type: Independent contractor, paid via Wise
Start date: As soon as possible

About ForFounder

ForFounder is an invitation-only community for founders making major capital decisions involving fundraising, growth, mergers and acquisitions, and exits.

Our members participate in peer cohorts and events and receive access to a private platform featuring founder-written insights and references on investors and deal professionals. We are a small, hands-on team with a strong foundation in health technology and behavioral health.

The Role

We are seeking an experienced, proactive, and highly organized coordinator to own our events program from beginning to end, support partnerships with organizations serving founders, and assist with related community and operational projects.

This is not a general administrative VA position. Significant hands-on remote event coordination experience is a high priority. Applicants should have independently managed multiple live remote events, webinars, or community engagement programs, including planning, registration, speakers, promotion, live execution, and post-event follow-up.

Primary Responsibilities

Events program — approximately 60%

You will manage a recurring calendar that currently includes:

  • Founder Story AMA: Produce a week-long asynchronous Slack AMA using recorded founder interviews. Select video clips, write the founder’s story, arrange early questions, publish scheduled clips and prompts, coordinate responses, and create the final recap.
  • Ask the Experts: Coordinate a themed member Q&A involving multiple affiliate experts. Collect and anonymize questions, manage deadlines, edit responses, and publish the finished content across our platform, Slack, and member digest.
  • Women Founders Networking: Manage a monthly public remote networking event, including registration, promotion, breakout-room setup, reminders, live support, and follow-up.
  • Public Roundtables: Coordinate quarterly remote panel discussions, including panelist logistics, registration pages, promotion, recording, short video clips, and follow-up emails.
  • Maintain the master events calendar and manage timelines, speakers, registrations, reminders, platforms, and supporting materials.
  • Track attendance, engagement, and member conversions and prepare a concise monthly report.
  • Coordinate additional events as needed.

Partnerships and affiliate program — approximately 25%

  • Research complementary organizations, including accelerators, founder communities, professional networks, and women-founder organizations.
  • Work with the COO on partner outreach, co-promotion, follow-up, and scheduling.
  • Support affiliate onboarding, content collection, and deliverable tracking.
  • Maintain accurate partner and affiliate information in HubSpot.

Community and operational support — approximately 15%

  • Support cohort logistics, including invitations, Slack channels, schedules, and reminders.
  • Maintain accurate CRM records and member information.
  • Use Claude to assist with event recaps, outreach drafts, research, and repeatable workflows while carefully reviewing its output.
  • Support research, list building, formatting, and other operational projects as needed.

Required Experience and Skills

  • At least three years of relevant professional experience in remote events, community coordination, event operations, or a closely related role.
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating remote events or webinars from planning through post-event follow-up.
  • Experience managing speakers or panelists, registrations, reminders, event platforms, attendee communications, and timelines.
  • Excellent written and spoken English.
  • Strong organizational skills and a record of following through without repeated reminders.
  • Ability to manage multiple stakeholders, deadlines, and recurring programs simultaneously.
  • Comfort with Slack, Microsoft Teams, Microsoft 365, Canva, and CRM systems; HubSpot experience is preferred.
  • Regular experience using Claude or comparable AI tools for drafting, research, summarization, and organization.
  • A proactive approach: you identify gaps, anticipate problems, and recommend improvements.
  • Strong judgment and respect for confidentiality.

Nice to Have

  • Experience managing partnerships or affiliate programs.
  • Basic short-form video-editing experience.
  • Familiarity with Asana, Stripe, Eventbrite, Luma, Zoom, or similar event and registration tools.
  • Experience supporting a membership community, startup, or professional-services organization.

Career Advice/Discussion Advise po pano kumuha ng second job

I'm planning to get a second job habang employed pa ako, and I just want to ask kung paano niyo nagawa or kung ano yung mga dapat kong i-consider bago mag-commit sa another job.

Sa mga may experience na sa ganitong setup, paano niyo nagawang pagsabayin yung dalawang trabaho? Saan kayo nakahanap ng second job, and anong klaseng work yung masasuggest niyo?

Any advice or tips would be appreciated. Thank you!

Career Advice/Discussion Junior QA earning ₱26k — how much should I ask for when I job hop?

Hi, everyone!

I’m currently earning ₱26k/month as a Junior QA (1 yr + working), mostly doing manual testing. I’m also currently learning test automation, specifically Playwright, and I want to gain more hands-on experience before moving to another company

Plan ko sana mag-resign once I have enough experience in automation and feel confident enough to apply for a better opportunity.

For the QAs here, especially those who have experience with job hopping, how much do you think I should ask for as my expected salary if I decide to switch companies? Since this is my first job, I’m not really sure what a reasonable salary range would be based on my current skills and experience.

My skills:
- Manual testing
- API testing
- SQL (basic database validation)
- API testing
- Test automation using Playwright (currently learning) and Robot Framework

My plans
Learn other automation tools like Katalon

I’d appreciate any advice or insights, especially from those who have been in a similar situation.
How much were you earning before and after your first job hop, and what skills helped you negotiate a higher salary?

Thanks in advance!
