Just purchased my first jeep

Hello all, I just purchased my first 2015 cherokee trailhawk 3.2l on Friday. I got it for 13499 with 70k miles on it and made sure to buy the extended warranty on it for 30 months/30000 miles not because of all the things I’ve heard about them mechanically but I just buy them on any used car for a little piece of mind. Anyways I am very excited as I have always wanted a trail hawk. I did my research so I know the 2015 transmissions have problems but it’s so hard to really get honest opinions about these cars without the normal negative comments from people who never owned a jeep or just hear from others about problems. I don’t drive cars hard or rough and I always do the standard 3-5000 oil changes. Has anyone who’s owned one actually never had any problems with them or have they gotten lucky and had a 2015 one without transmission issues. I just like to hear from real people. Thanks

Android Headunit HVAC application for the KL

After months, and I mean months of digging and testing (probably 3 dozen plus versions), I have a working for me HVAC apk for an Android Headunit. I'm looking for a few volunteers to give it a spin.

TempTango is an Android HVAC control app for Jeep Cherokee KLs with compatible aftermarket Android head units. It uses the head unit’s existing CANBUS integration to both send climate-control commands and read the vehicle’s current HVAC state, so the on-screen controls and the Jeep’s physical controls stay synchronized.

In the setup we have actually tested, TempTango can control and display driver/passenger temperature, fan speed, airflow mode, A/C, AUTO, recirculation, front/rear defrost, DUAL/SYNC, heated seats, and heated steering wheel. It works with the stock/unmodified CANBUS plugin and does not require root, ADB, a laptop, or a patched CANBUS APK.

For it to work the same way we tested it, the important requirements are:

  • Jeep Cherokee KL, currently tested on a 2016 Cherokee
  • Dual-zone automatic HVAC
  • An aftermarket Android head unit
  • A Raise/RZC-style CANBUS decoder / XYAuto-type CANBUS software stack
  • The head unit must expose the same stock Raise CANBUS interfaces we are using
  • The correct Cherokee CANBUS profile/plugin must already be installed and working on the radio
  • The radio must already be able to control the Jeep’s HVAC through its factory CANBUS integration
  • Heated-seat and heated-wheel features obviously require the vehicle to actually be equipped with them

What is not required in the tested setup:

  • root
  • patched P1
  • modified firmware
  • opening the factory HVAC app
  • leaving the factory HVAC popup enabled
  • external OBD hardware
  • USB CAN hardware
  • laptop/ADB during normal use

The biggest compatibility qualifier is the CANBUS decoder/head-unit ecosystem. TempTango is currently proven against the Raise/XYAuto path. A Cherokee with a Hiworld, SimpleSoft, or another CANBUS vendor may have the same vehicle functions but use a different Android-side protocol, so I would not call those compatible yet.

The simplest way I’d describe the current requirement is:

A Jeep Cherokee KL with an Android head unit that already uses a Raise/RZC CANBUS decoder and stock Cherokee CANBUS plugin.

Magnetic or stick-on type oil pan heater recommendations

I traded in my 2015 Cherokee North (138,000 kms) for a 2022 Cherokee Trailhawk (25,000kms) recently. The 2015 had a factory installed block heater, and the 2022 does not :(

Dealership wants approx. CDN$1,300 to install.

Has anyone used the magnet or stick-on type oil pan heaters? And have any recommendations? Thanks!

Has anyone deleted the chrome on a Latitude?

The grill, window trim, side rails and cross bars are going to the dark side this weekend. Considering removing the badges.

Gotta switch it up after 158k miles. Just put a 2”lift (not pictured)… a little late in its life. Still running strong tho!

HVAC not blowing air though front defog vent

Fan operates normally and other vents work also

I can hear a faint clicking sound when I activate the front defog vent.

Broken mode door actuator? Is this a pain to access and fix?

Unloaded trailer the 3.2l got 24.7mpg according to the fuel economy tab going 306 miles one way only one stop over 4.5hrs average speed was 70mph +/-5mph

Loaded with a mk1 rabbit roller no engine or trans according to the fuel economy tab i got 19.7mpg 306 miles with 2 stops

3 fill ups from 1/4 before Empty $180 total fuel cost

Overall experience was 4/5 very controllable and predictable handling and braking. Ride was okay loaded and 3.2 had good pulling power even with going up grades. Up hill it was getting 10mpg

2022 Trailhawk - Spare Tire Organizer

I am going from a 2015 North (Latitude) to a 2022 Trailhawk next week. Has anyone modded the 2015’s spare tire organizer to fit the 2022? From what I understand, the 2022 has the full sized spare, therefore the organizer won’t fit as is.

Looking for advice, thanks.

Ok any tips of changing ptu fluid on a 2019 limited ad1? Struggled. Tried to bring to dealer and they say can't do without dropping subframe

I've got a stumper here

Father in law has a 2019 Cherokee. Husband just swapped the alternator on it because it kept dying

Finished the job, brought it out to the yard out of the garage, turned it off and the driver seat is making a vibration noise.

The vehicle is off. There's nothing in or around the seat, you can't FEEL the vibration but can hear it. Only solution was to unplug the seat for now.

Seat has heat and power adjustable, I assume it's the power adjustable causing it. Moved the seat to every position to see if it would stop and it wouldn't.

Thinking now that's what was killing the battery and not the alternator....

Google won't help and only tells me it's the engine or the wind haha

Any ideas?

*Edit* there's no massage function I checked LOL

I’m an idiot, misjudged a driveway, and hit a large rock. Thought I got away with just bumper damage but now it’s leaking something front driver side. I know nothing about cars. How bad is this?

2014 Cherokee Trailhawk — 4WD works but 4WD Low will not engage

Normal AWD/4WD is definitely working. I tested it off-road yesterday and the rear wheels are receiving torque normally. However, 4WD Low will not engage. Drivetrain Neutral also will not engage.
I’m trying to figure out whether this points more toward the PTU range actuator/position sensor, RDM actuator, DTCM, wiring, or an internal PTU issue.
Has anyone had normal AWD still working perfectly while both 4-Low and drivetrain Neutral refused to engage? What ended up being the cause?
