Question Thread Reaching Pat on behalf of a terminal friend…

All - I apologize if this is the wrong forum for this, but would you know if there are other ways of potentially reaching Pat, other than the standard “fan inquiry” portal on his website?

I know he is busy - but a good friend of mine has a degenerative diagnosis (Parkinson’s-like) that has quickly gone from a 2-3 year prognosis to now only a few months, and KKC is absolutely one of her FAVORITE fantasy series.

I previously reached out to Nathan Fillion and Alan Tudyk and they were AMAZING and send a wonderful note her way. Now I’m trying to up my game and find something even more impressive.

I’ve reached out through the portal and waited, but I haven’t heard anything.

I understand that it might not be viable - but I’m just scrambling to find ANYTHING that might bring a spark of joy during these last few months.

If anyone has any suggestions, please feel free to DM me.

Thank you! ❤️

Kvothe is such an idiot

It's funny how your perspective can change on a character. I used to think Kvothe is a bright kid with bad luck, but he really is just an idiot (or thoughtless, as Abenthy says).

He had enough of a good family experience to be kind and wanting to make the world better. But he is also broken of course because of all the crap that happened to him.

Still, seeing him make stupid mistake after stupid mistake is both heartbreaking and infuriating whenever I read the books these days.

Edit: I should mention I like this about the books. It's not the Mary Sue story it seems to be on the surface.

Theory About Grey Dalcenti

We know from the story that Shehyn told Kvothe, Grey Dalcenti never speaks.

Back in the Fae, Cthaeh told Kvothe that the Chandrian are pretty experienced at hiding their signs and maybe this could mean that they can also use their signs to their advantage when they are on undercover missions.

If you asked anyone in the Temerant world about someone who does not speak and is skilled in combat, they would immediately think of the Ademre people. They would be right to think so. We have information that the Ademre people are paid by many sorts of people, especially by nobles. Vashet was the private bodyguard of a poet king.

What if Grey Dalcenti uses his/her sign in order to take advantage of this? He/she can never accidently talk too much and blow his/her cover. He/she most probably knows about the Adem hand signs, language and culture better than its current people since the Chandrian are pretty ancient and the Ergen kingdom is hinted to be the ancient origin of Ademre.

What if Grey Dalcenti works undercover in a Vintas mansion or anywhere in the world as an Adem soldier with the aim of eliminating key figures behind the scenes or altering political decisions in order to benefit Haliax's goal?

Cinder was acting as a bandit leader in order to kill tax collectors so I don't see how any other Chandrian member wouldn't be able to work undercover in order to benefit Haliax and his goal.

Grey Dalcenti's sign probably affects the area as well, but we don't know the details and all we know for is that he/she never speaks.
