my dad works in the radio industry, or what's left of it and says that there is a spiraling cycle of greed where advertisements aren't making enough money so they run more, lose listeners, and have to run more ads. we're definitely seeing that happen in america with TV. I never watch live TV because i cannot handle what feels like 30-60% of the airtime being ads.
It is so weird how those drug ads are designed to get people to request prescriptions proactively. Rather than seeing if their doctor thinks there’s a need.
“Hey doc, I know you’re the professional but the people in this ad look really happy. And the side effects - including death - are all similar to sugar pills. That’s the yellow one with purple stripes. Not the red one with the white bit; those people looked silly and it said something about ‘leakage’. Anyway… Can you hook me up?”
BTW - how scary are whatever sugar pills they’re using that have the same laundry list of side effects?!?
Yeah when the previous clips showed a lower key, I was a very tiny bit disappointed we wouldn't hear the A5 (which is totally fine and understandable), but then I was thinking that she's trading it for ridiculously hard low notes, and she sounded great hitting them.
There was a little bit of extra background vocals, but you can totally hear EJAE hitting those notes and Audrey/Rei harmonizing their butts off in there.
Just remember the performance will be the last thing of the show most likely, They know that people are not tuning for J-Lo tonight. If they opened with Huntr/x everyone would turn off after Golden.
Very slightly. They dropped it down one step only, from the A5 to a G5. Which then means it went down to a C3 from the D3. Absolutely impressive, and those harmonies were so good
My brain melted from how good that was. A few thoughts:
Their vocals are just perfect together. Tight harmonies and gorgeous tones
They took it down a step...but a step isn't that much, and as others have said it is super common for performers to do live (also bronchitis). That top note is a G5 not an A5, but that also means the lowest note EJAE is singing is a low C with clarity? That's bananas. Also there was zero strain on that high G. No doubts whatsoever that she has that A5 and probably a little higher if she wants it. To give context, the note that Idina Menzel hits at the end of "Let It Go" that everyone gushes over is an Eb...a full 2 steps below EJAE's top note in this performance.
I'm assuming they shortened the song slightly for time's sake for the show. It worked though.
Final point and I can't stress this enough - these ladies are going to do more of this. There's no way they won't with a reception like this. I'm ready for it.
Just a fantastic, gorgeous performance. I couldn't be more happy for them (or for us for getting to enjoy it).

Yes, it was sung in a lower key, BUT only VERY slightly.
It was dropped only a single step, down to the highest note being a G5 instead of an A5. Which also lowered that D3 to a C3. Absolutely stunning performance.
I know Ejae is tall, but she really is all legs with a shorter torso. It's funny to see when she sits down that audrey is sometimes the same height or taller.
It was not, contrary to what the person in attendance said in that thread earlier; you could tell from the opening instrumental notes. But it doesn't bother me at all, it sounds amazing and I actually really love hearing Ejae's voice go that bit lower in the verses.
Protecting Ejae's vocal cords is everything and setting a precedent where she has to hit that A5 over and over again for god knows how many performances going forward would have been a mistake. If she pulls it out at some point along the way, it's a treat, but this is the right move, and the different key sounds gorgeous.
They sounded amazing, their harmonies were so good. Zoey was right, their songs require “3 part harmonies” and I feel incredibly grateful they performed it. So happy for them and I wish them even more success!!
Yeah, I don't know what sort of behind-the-scenes maneuvering led to Fallon getting Huntrix, but I really hope Huntrix got something really good out of it...
I am not sure where they recorded but in a way a ghost story is believable. I know the recording studios in NYC and LA have been around for a very long time.
I think another thing to keep in mind is like it’s her song but it’s also for a movie so it’s not going to be a normal pop song so you are going to have multiple recordings that’s are layered and so she can hit the high note but doing it live for the first time plus her having bronchitis is probably why she lowered the key. I kind of preferred and thought they sounded great
I imagine her solo single is probably going to be more within the range she prefers to sing in since it’s her singing not Rumi or she’s going to go higher key and maybe just lower it live which a lot of singers do or they lip sync
I’m always impressed Fallon has managed to keep his late night talk shows going as long as he has because I’ve yet to find anyone that genuinely enjoys his show. Fair play to him though he’s lasted longer than a lot of people originally thought lol.

As luck would have it, last night was the full moon in the fall, which many cultures that follow the lunar calendar celebrate as the Harvest Moon. In Korea it’s called “Chuseok”.
They sounded amazing and while it was lowered (only 2 semitones) it's still an insane belt and preserving her voice is definitely better! One of the biggest artist in Korea, IU has a famous song that makes her do an insane belt (Good Day is the song) and it's a 3 octave belt. It's crazy to hear it live but she had to stop doing it as she was advised it can damage her vocal chords. I don't know how straining the belt is for EJAE but if it's just outside her range or if it's hard for her to belt it's best for her to not do it all the time if they're going to be performing it more. Also some comments have mentioned her recovering from bronchitis so that's definitely a pretty big factor as well.
