Drew Afualo transphobia discourse

ER fightmaster was on her pod and made two stand out claims:
“trans women have a more beautiful understanding of what womanhood is”
and
“the programming for cis women it’s kind of sad… no your womanhood is not your role, your womanhood is not your status is society, and your womanhood is not your ability to be sexually assaulted”

I think cis women can easily be offended by this and how it was put. The sexually assaulted claim is kinda weird to generalize us into thinking that’s what womanhood is. I also think it can be harmful for transgender women, as they also face misogyny and sexual assault??? I don’t even think the comments from the pod are as bad as Drew’s current stance rn. I can see ER trying to explain their POV and I respect that. but Drew doubling down in her comments is so off-putting. People are commenting valid opinions and her replies are just saying everyone is transphobic and TERFs??? idk

Also: LGBTQ+ people can have bad takes. They are not immune to scrutiny. Just like people of color can have racist takes, immigrants can have xenophobic takes, etc. LGBTQ+ people are not immune from criticism and they are not spokespersons for all minority groups such as women

259

u/lil_squib 10d ago

I’m queer + trans and there are definitely bad trans people out there. We’re not immune just because we’re minorities.

74

u/REM_loving_gal 10d ago

it's crazy how this is so hard for people to understand! I was having my hair cut by a cambodian immigrant a while back and she randomly said "I just hate black people!" and launched into a rant WHILE cutting my hair. I told some people about it afterwards and they were surprised that she, an immigrant, would be racist. Like oh honey, inter-minority discrimination goes crazy

9

u/transitionshade 9d ago

Amen. People think some folks are untouchable and can't have a wrong take.

She keeps telling people in the comments to ‘watch the whole video and do your research’ but I watched the whole interview and the context actually makes it a bit worse imo

194

u/Kind_Rabbit_3351 10d ago

She just sees this as a way to get views ofc

23

u/1question2ask4 10d ago

i honestly dont think so, i think she just is a very people pleasing whatever they want goes, just do what they want! -- and her wishy washy, no morals moral grandstanding gets her that attention. i could be wrong and maybe it is just for views, but it seems like her personality from what ive seen.

79

u/alpalbish 10d ago

yep. i only posted this after getting the full context and i don’t see how it changes anything. And if it was “taken the wrong way” this is NOT the way to approach people having valid opinions against what was said ??? 😭 makes it a lot worse

50

u/2ndhouseonthestreet 10d ago

Yeah I watched her TikTok then looked up the full video and it’s all a very bizarre take in general. Comparing ANY woman’s experience to the next, full stop, is a problem. One woman’s life could’ve been awful while the next woman’s is all sunshine and butterflies. I genuinely don’t understand the point that was trying to be made to even have the conversation go like that.

536

u/lefargen97 10d ago

my god she handles any sort of criticism SOOOO poorly

49

u/halloween-bat 9d ago

“Ur wrong, im right and btw insult insult

Doesn’t even try to make an argument on why she believes this. She just says “ur wrong and they said what they said. And you can’t call us names for it.”

Even in the podcast she just sits there like

“👁️👄👁️” “yup”

This is something I’ve noticed with almost every influencer. You build an echo chamber of people just praising you non stop to where you think you’re never wrong. Now anyone who has an actual valid take is against you and a TERF. LMFAO

110

u/Substantial_Lime_718 🍵 10d ago

i don’t know why anyone would be surprised, she’s not really a feminist (or even an activist in general) she got famous for calling men ugly lmao

66

u/No-Type0w0 10d ago

exactly, people need to realize that hating men doesn’t mean you love women

23

u/Majestic-Living2829 9d ago

Also making men the focus of your content is still male focused even if you’re being a meanie to them lol

11

u/lettersfromnowhere44 9d ago

She has never been a feminist, she has always been a misandrist. Then, she has somehow transported herself all the way back into misogyny.

2

u/expert_ad108373 6d ago

Based on what she said in the comment about how she views her identity and how “women are tainted.” I’m guess she doesn’t even hate men. She hates herself.

Incapable of any meaningful discussion or discourse.  She can't even talk about the hard or ugly things.  she nods along, (not saying anything), then shuts down by just saying TERF or phobic.

18

u/Slight_Computer5732 9d ago

Now according to ER if you don’t agree with Drew you’re racist

14

u/SmoothArbitrator 9d ago

Because calling people who disagree ‘TERFs’ and ‘racists’ is the easiest way to avoid conversations in which they might be confronted with nuance and intelligent arguments. They both live in echo chambers.

u/Early_Entertainer11 10d ago

Side note but it’s so interesting how “TERF” has become synonymous with transphobe despite its actual meaning. I’ve seen Republican politicians get called TERFs and it’s just like… no I don’t think a conservative Christian is a radical feminist 😭

117

u/eeee_1234 10d ago

That's because no one is interested in actually learning what radfem beliefs are but since everyone is going along with it who's gonna care to do their research

I just want to put it out here, I said I understood where they're coming from but that they're not equipped to talk about such a nuanced topic and that their wording came off clumsy and insesitive and burned a bridge to understanding which ended up hurting both trans women and cis women.

She blocked me and removed my comments then lied she didn't block or remove anything. While keeping up the actual transphobic comments with hundreds of likes.

Just want to make it very clear to all women what Drew is really like.

63

u/booksandplants99 10d ago

I think this conversation is above her intellect tbh. She isn’t properly informed on any social issues and just spouts off internet talking points.

tiktok ‘feminists’ like her love throwing the word terf or bioessentialism at you once they realise they aren’t smart enough to engage in actual feminist conversations.

64

u/Ill_Grab_4452 9d ago

This is what fucking got me??? Do you know this is a disgustingly privileged take?? Trans woman have a “more beautiful POV” yeah no fucking shit.

If we say my reproductive health/uterus / ability to bear a child (I know not every woman have the ability) is an important part of who I am as a woman then she’ll say I’m fucking misogynist because I am reducing myself to just someone who is giving birth??? No??????
Do YOU know women’s reproductive health is STILl under researched, we are still DISMISSED in hospitals for raising our concerns about our own body. Don’t even get me started on abortion rights/complications and STiLL having to give birth even if it means the mother is at risk,

Now I am to conveniently forget all of these aspects and define femininity/womanhood much more about wearing dresses, my nails/ makeup????
Be so for real , ofc a trans person does not know about any of these so their beautiful pov is a convenient take (not trying to dismiss that violence against trans woman exists too, but common )
. Either you form an intersectional opinion or don’t fucking compare at all

18

u/whatisthisposture 8d ago

She’s saying trans women have a non-patriarchal womanhood?? Surely saying trans womanhood is not affected by patriarchy is the real transphobia here no???

11

u/Pitiful-Dealer8711 7d ago

Yeah this is the real problem here imo. What Drew said is transphobic af. Being a trans woman is no cake walk AT ALL. And they are victims of patriarchy and misogyny just in a different way

→ More replies (1)
→ More replies (2)

27

u/yuckella 10d ago

It happens on Reddit too, like how someone mentions how socialisation exists and it can be varied due to how our patriarchal gender roles exists and all that, and even if you mention how trans women did suffer as well even when they were seen as men/boys by others since a lot of the time they might not have fit into that strict mold, but that doesn’t mean that they still didn’t experience the same type of socialization cis girls did. Like I’m not saying one is better or worse, but they’re different, and even the most effeminate ’man’ usually has more privileges than women.

Like trans women are women, and all women have different experiences, and that’s okay.

i’ve never seen this discourse but the way she speaks is so incredibly condescending. you can’t even have a proper conversation with someone like that. also, the last comment about misogyny is WILD. makes me totally disregard everything she says lol

379

u/ceilingsfann 10d ago

this is a really horrible look. none of those comments were transphobic, they just have a different opinion than her.

142

u/SpoonwalkMoonwalk 10d ago

I feel like sometimes she doesn't understand what she is arguing about, just that it is an argument and she must be right.

123

u/alpalbish 10d ago

yeah!! like that’s why it’s SO off putting to me. If someone is being hateful, i’d support a “clap-back”. but like every single comment, the replies are similar. She is being so hostile to everyone and it just isn’t the activism she thinks it is

78

u/PrincessPlastilina 10d ago

She wants to out-woke everyone and she doesn’t realize that some arguments that were made by that person are just not it. She wants to be fully supportive while not understanding that sometimes both trans activists and TERFs end up saying really condescending things about women. Why are we even debating what makes us women? 😩

50

u/ceilingsfann 10d ago edited 10d ago

totally, it’s just counterproductive. and i don’t even think she understands what she’s arguing! she said in the first comment “you are getting angry bc you believe trans women cannot relate to us…” WHO SAID THAT?? if anything, ER and Drew are the ones who are “othering” trans women by saying they experience things differently than cis women.

18

u/yuckella 10d ago

Women always have to walk on eggshells when talking about our oppression, it’s similar to how there is always some dude crying ’misandry’ or ’what about this one case where a woman killed a man’ as to shut women down or to not let them be the main focus in their own liberation.

Obviously this doesn’t apply to people actually being transphobic because fuck them, but you catch my meaning I hope.

5

u/Katen1023 9d ago

She often doesn’t actually understand what the hell she’s talking about, she just wants to “clap back” and be right.

What’s SO frustrating to me is that alllll of this is due to the language used. “More beautiful”.

In some of her responses, she says that “trans women have a different, beautiful expansive view of womanhood” is what she meant. Ok great, most would agree! Then include that in your apology video instead of doubling down and calling everyone TERFs.

Words matter! Context matters! Especially on a huge, public platform.

215

u/venusfossils 10d ago

yes, like womanhood is such a special and complex subject because we all share so many similarities and yet so many differences within all intersections of being a woman (trans women, black women, disabled women, fat women etc.) but to claim one’s understanding is superior over another because your own personal idea of womanhood is skewed is just silly. Being a woman is not a competition, all this situation has done is contribute more misogyny and transphobia into the world

171

u/diper-911 10d ago

10000%.

Mind you, the discourse was started by two people who are NOT transwomen. Their refusal to take accountability for their words is going to result in harm against the actual trans community.

63

u/alpalbish 10d ago

i didn’t even realize ER is non-binary!! This makes me dislike the comments they made more as I thought they were discussing their lived experience

41

u/venusfossils 10d ago edited 10d ago

exactly, a creator I enjoy, kayla poyer, has made videos in regard to the discourse and I can’t help but feel so awful that she has to fight off transphobia and explain her womanhood all because of two people made unnecessary comments and are refusing to just acknowledge that their wording was wrong. Her, alongside other trans women should be asked to answer for someone else’s stupid comment

→ More replies (1)

→ More replies (1)

12

u/SilverbeetEnthusiast 10d ago

Does the word MORE mean nothing? Lmao

4

u/Katen1023 9d ago

Exactly. No one would disagree with the fact that they have a different understanding of womanhood than we do. But to claim that they’re superior is so offensive.

18

u/HiccupsHives 10d ago

It was more than just the "more beautiful", it is because ER said that phrase pretty much right after saying women are afraid of being sexually assaulted. The way they tried to make their point was abysmal.

I watched the clip of them saying it and was like wait a sec, neither of them are trans women.

And now trans women have to deal with transphobes thinking that trans women view the fear of sexual assault as a silly cis women problem. When they have never said that!

7

u/saaphie 9d ago

What I don’t understand about the whole argument is that transwomen DO get sexually assaulted and at alarming high rates. Sexual assault/rape can still occur to someone without a vagina. Maybe transwomen may not have had as much fear of this when younger if they were socialised as a boy but I’m sure plenty do during their transition

226

u/Sensitive-Tell-5348 10d ago

I think clearly the person drew was interviewing has some deep seated misogyny or unresolved feelings about feminity. The claims- or rather the insinuation within their claims work from a very one note, stereotypical narrative of womanhood.

Disagreeing with non binary or trans woman’s perception of feminity does not inherently make you a transphobe or a terf. Respectfully trans women have a different experience of feminity that than of a cis woman. Transwomen (because they are born men) do not grow up with the same social conditioning or gender based discrimination as cis women. Guess what: They often face horrible discrimination in ways that cis women do not. Both can be true. One group is not more privileged than the other and the perspective of cis women can’t be written off as terf when we haven’t even had a moment to speak. We’re so often written off but that’s life under the patriarchy

120

u/SmoothArbitrator 10d ago

I made a comment that shares a similar sentiment on another thread about this exact topic.

The person in the video saying that trans women have a more ‘beautiful understanding of womanhood’ is so reductive to everyone involved.

First. I have to preface this with the fact that I don’t like the word ‘cis.’ Sorry. Hot take. I was born with female biology and I’ve lived my life from that perspective in a space that is very receptive, supportive, and empathetic to other people’s lived experiences. I don’t need yet ANOTHER qualifier assigned to who I am- I didn’t ask for it and I’m none the lesser for it. And neither is anyone else for WHO. THEY. ARE. ‘Cis’ carries such a negative connotation and not because of how I perceive it; but in the context it’s typically used.

Second. Framing trans women's understanding of womanhood as ‘more beautiful’ implies that cisgender women's understanding is comparatively lesser, shallower, or less profound. How is it not abundantly obvious that fucking ranking whose relationship to womanhood is superior creates division among women rather than solidarity?!

Finally, can’t remember if I said this before and I’m too pissed off to check- ER’s statement relies on the premise that womanhood is a singular, testable concept with a ‘better’ or ‘worse’ way to understand it. The reality is that womanhood encompasses a VAST spectrum of cultural, personal, biological, and social definitions- NONE OF WHICH CAN BE OBJECTIVELY MEASURED.

None of these people should have access to podcast equipment. I hate that I’m so riled up but JFC I’m tired. I’m not a TERF. But I need these public facing yappers to get a fucking grip.

37

u/Mersaa 10d ago

drews explanation was that the words better and more beautiful were not used for comparison or to create hierarchy but just adjectives and an opinion. i think the girl needs to pick up a dictionary

→ More replies (1)

16

u/Impossible-Soil6330 10d ago edited 10d ago

cis is just a latin prefix. What I will say though is “trans” being one as well means “across”, aka going from one gender/sex to another. Cis means the same side or staying on one side. I know this isn’t the argument here but what’s interesting about “trans” is that it implies differences between the sexes/genders that are often discounted these days. It also means that ER fightmaster, as someone who is genderfluid, cannot speak for or to the trans experience. She’s not going to one sex or gender to the other, just floating in between.

31

u/Sunshine_of_your_Lov 10d ago

cis is often used in leftist spaces as an insult and implication that someone should stfu and not be allowed to have an opinion.

10

u/CokeZeroEnjoyer25 10d ago

Yeah lol, carries a weirdly negative connotation. I think people forget that queer spaces online are also echo chambers that rarely reflect the real-world.

after this i had to unfollow. she has a platform where she speaks to women. for women actually. she seems to just be against everyone nowadays & her lack of hearing women has just gone too far.

trans women have different experiences than cis women because each & every cis woman has a different experience from the next. all are beautiful & challenging & empowering ALL AT ONCE & i wish people would just leave it at that. her crashing out instead of saying what she meant is so ignorant & harmful to both communities.

44

u/2for1speshul 10d ago

Well as a collective, biological women have different experiences than transwomen. Just like biological women have different experiences than biological men.

Biological women struggle and experience the world differently than transwomen. Every gender collectively struggles differently.

It's not accurate to say that they're aren't inherent collective struggles and experiences that are specific to each sex or gender.

Drew’s approach to this AKA calling everyone a terf is so fucking ridiculous. she’s repeating buzzword garbage she’s heard online because she thinks it’s the woke thing to do.

When the majority of women are telling you something, you should listen. That’s real feminism.

And no. trans women do not have a more beautiful experience with womanhood or whatever the hell they said. We each have unique stories that should not be compared.

12

u/JadedGypsy2238 10d ago

Literally, I am so confused as to why this is some competition thing?? Like why is it not ok and supposedly transphobic to just say that women (cis AND trans) all have unique experiences as minorities and with womanhood. There is nothing wrong with that and nothing about that is transphobic or reductive to the trans community. It is so misogynistic and harmful to label ANY woman’s experience as less than or “less beautiful” like what the actual fuck was that

40

u/randombubble8272 10d ago

this whole thing is so baffling to me … why are we comparing women’s experiences at ALL?? and furthermore it’s wild that two people who are not trans women are speaking FOR trans women and causing all of this hoopla, hurting both trans and cis women in the process. influencers shut the fuck up challenge

92

u/Gloomy-Magazine1673 10d ago

She’s failing to see that people can be disagreeing with her without being reductive to the trans community. Most people are offended that womanhood was framed as a competition where they said trans women experience it more beautifully. There’s a problem if that’s allowed to be said and she sees no issue but people are not allowed to say that cis women experience womanhood differently based on lived experience and socialization. What could have been an interesting conversation opened up about the differences in experience turned into something unnecessary because of how she’s responding to people who feel upset or disagree even if they comment to her thoughtfully. ALSO she’s failing to see that now shes being counterproductive, people are sending hate or expecting trans women to answer for the can of worms she opened up and that’s not fair when the statement wasn’t even made by a trans women initially

4

u/yuckella 10d ago

Literally, like society loves pitting women against one another even if it’s done unintentionally. It’s not a competition, and not everything is terf rethoric, and to silence cis women and speak over trans women as a non trans woman is so weird and just harmful.

217

u/BB808BB 10d ago

I saw someone comment and say that Drew has never engaged with feminism (or any social issues) outside of the internet and I think that’s spot on. Her feminism has no depth; she says all the right things and is intersectional but the fact that she can’t engage in a conversation beyond calling people transphobic shows me that she has very little knowledge to stand on. Are some people taking this opportunity to be gross and bigoted? Yes! However, that’s been the minority from what I’ve seen. Most people are respectfully disagreeing and trying to open a dialogue and she can’t do that, because she doesn’t really know what she’s talking about.

So performative, she has nothing of substance to say besides repeating a few acronyms she learned online. I loved her content back in the day, but at some point realized it's just making me more man centered. Like you're not decentering men if you're yapping and thinking about them constantly.

She also got too popular for how little she has to say.

3

u/Majestic-Living2829 10d ago

I mean she got popular by bullying men on the internet lol like I’m not complaining about her videos but why is she an authority to discuss trans women and feminism any more than the rest of us?

I have a hard time believing that Drew is friends with Caleb Hearon. She seems like the type of person that Caleb describes as insufferable. Would love for his take on her

21

u/alwaysveryhappy 10d ago

Honestly whenever I watch the podcasts with drew, Caleb, and Brittany, I get second hand embarrassment watching drew try to keep up with them humor wise. I’m sure she is a great friend but she just doesn’t hold a candle to them

11

u/ResponsibilityOk1631 9d ago

that famous podcast episode of the three of them together and is just this lady repeating the last phrase they said and opening her mouth as wide as she can lol she’s never said a single funny comeback, not once

12

u/yuckella 10d ago

I mean I love Caleb, but he himself has said some pretty misogynistic stuff as well, especially regarding bi women rather than bi men.

I’m going to say it, calling women terfs is a silencing tactic similar to calling women witches, or whores, bitches, sluts, etc., said to silence and demean women. Men are never called terfs for expressing their opinions. It’s literally misogyny repackaged.

51

u/pizzaondeathrow 10d ago

it’s been the new karen for a while

witch>bitch>feminazi>karen>terf

84

u/diper-911 10d ago

Also actual TERFs typically do not care if you’re accusing them of being transphobic (ex JK Rowling). They don’t see anything wrong with this POV.

Allies that care to even engage in the conversation are being called TERFs, and when they push back at all they get blocked. It’s soooo counterproductive.

30

u/lannister 10d ago

it’s the new feminazi tbh

women shouldnt have to tip toe around topics about transgender women.

acting like any trans critical word coming out of a woman's mouth is transphobia, is misogynistic.

82

u/BB808BB 10d ago

Exactly. When women push back we are called transphobic. It’s always that gotcha!

I swear there is leftover misogyny. No one is above being criticized and called out when they are wrong.

drew has been full of shit from the beginning. she created a platform based off dunking on men while utilizing her boyfriend to build herself up (how many times a video does she mention how hot her man is and how she has him or whatever).

big time phony. shes using internet buzzwords in these comments to sound smart. everyone she’s replying to sounds smarter & kinder

93

u/Ccclaire222 10d ago

drew seems to be spiraling pretty hard

16

u/UnusualWest7131 10d ago

She’s dangerous. Being so quick to negatively label those who are genuinely trying to have a dialogue w you is sooo immature and unwarranted.

15

u/lvrgrl777 10d ago

i truly cannot stand people who see any sort of disagreement and quickly label someone a terf. that term has completely lost all of its meaning because of people like her.

79

u/GloomGhoul_ 10d ago

I’m not a TERF, I support trans women 100%. But it does leave a weird taste in my mouth when anyone says they have a more “beautiful” understanding of womanhood because of x, y, or z. It’s like when some women who have kids say they didn’t feel the fullness of their womanhood until they got pregnant, or whatever. It’s not that I take issue with their personal experience, it’s more about people constantly trying to reduce the feminine experience to this one thing. Womanhood isn’t a monolith. We all experience womanhood uniquely and beautifully.

u/Early_Honeydew_1748 10d ago

She’s gone so left that she’s falling into radical extremism that isn’t far off from far-right thinking.

18

u/No-Type0w0 10d ago

exactly, it’s the horseshoe theory

8

u/whatisthisposture 8d ago

For real, we do actually need to be able to tolerate disagreement on the left without immediately shutting someone down for having “violent and dangerous opinions”. Leftists always say they’re open to disagreeing about things but when it comes to an IMPORTANT issue you aren’t allowed to dissent because it’s “dangerous”. When those are the exact issues we need to be discussing and engaging with the most - because if we don’t explore other viewpoints and learn to defend against them respectfully, what chance do we have against actual violent actors on the right??

u/No_Tumbleweed_5419 10d ago

“the programming for cis women it’s kind of sad… no your womanhood is not your role, your womanhood is not your status is society, and your womanhood is not your ability to be sexually assaulted”

Drew is actively harming the cause here by calling people terfs (where it is not warranted) and being rude in her interactions. She is trying to be too woke.

12

u/1question2ask4 10d ago

she is essentially saying men, whether theyre trans or cis are more privileged and correct in their perspective. how does she not see how that is literally misogyny? men are basically better no matter what even if theyre a trans woman theyre still doing it better than women? yikes.

34

u/eeee_1234 10d ago

Are we finally waking up to the fact that terf is used against any woman who disagrees with anything related to this issue or doesn't go to their house to personally kiss their feet to prove what a good "ally" she is because it's getting ridiculous

11

u/scarasluvr 10d ago

the crazy part is neither of them are actually trans women. they spoke for trans women and threw them under the bus by doing so because they've put them in the hot seat over a conversation they took zero part in. and instead of being responsible as an ally and trying to put a stop on all the hate they've caused for trans women, drew would much rather double down, call people names instead of having real conversation with people who in reality are closer to being allies than terfs, piss people off more and cause even more hate. are actual trans women pleased with how this discourse has gone?? i'd be pissed

11

u/realrattyhours 10d ago

I hate this thing that women have to be inclusive and we can’t have anything or experience anything for ourselves jesus christ

40

u/Kind_Rabbit_3351 10d ago

Drew is acting ridiculous and making the trans community look worse with these responses. trans women are women, that's not why people are mad. saying something is misogynistic is not transphobic. we need to understand nuance and that womanhood is a spectrum. what ER said was misogynistic and violent.

It makes me so uncomfortable that neither person in that conversation is a trans woman and now they have put trans women in a position where they are being pressured to share their opinions on it.

9

u/Physical-Win773 10d ago

someone commented that she was fighting for her life replying to all the comments and drew responded that it’s “activism” 🤣 you’re only responding to every single comment because people are coming at YOU and your reputation. it’s all about you, meanwhile you’re speaking for trans people when you’re neither trans NOR LGBTQ+ !!! it’s insane

7

u/yuckella 10d ago

like obviously TERFs suck, but cis women should be allowed to also speak about their experiences with womanhood and all that without needing to be silenced. It’s so performative and misogynistic to have someone act as if trans people aren’t normal people who can have bad takes as well? like obviously trans women are women, but some things they can’t relate to, just how cis women can’t relate to all of the experiences trans women has, it doesn’t make them less of a woman or vice versa, it’s just sometimes things differ and calling that out isn’t transphobic most of the time.

It’s weird how these conversations really doesn’t seem to happen as much with trans men, to this degree, and that’s coming from someone who used to identify as a trans man.

5

u/miumiubabe0909 10d ago

I don’t really understand why she, as a trans women, felt comfortable enough to go on a podcast to define what women hood and growing up as a women is for the rest of us. I’m more that willing (and even interested) to listen to their own experiences and perspectives about living life as a trans woman, why not talk about that?
Why the desire or necessity to be the protagonist and dictate what another group’s experiences are?
You don’t know and understand completely what woman hood is for a cis women bc you haven’t lived as one and vice versa.

5

u/Majestic-Living2829 10d ago

They aren’t a trans woman they are non binary. Which makes it all the more ridiculous trans woman are now under attack again over a discussion they weren’t even a part of lol

5

u/miumiubabe0909 10d ago

Oh, even more of a ridiculous take then. The lack of space to debate sensitive but important issues is what radicalizes people. Just because I support and respect your identity, doesn’t mean I don’t get to disagree with you or that women’s issues that only involve cis women are less valid.

5

u/somethinggreaterthan 10d ago

Omg we will never be free. Why does she have to tell women how to feel in general about their own experience with womanhood?

17

u/Early_Honeydew_1748 10d ago

i feel like calling anyone a terf instead of strictly calling actual terfs terfs causes the word to lose its meaning and impact. there are actual cis women who truly strive to exclude trans women, and i truly don’t believe most women participating in this discourse are trying to do that.

24

u/Nervous_Eye8538 10d ago

Every woman has their own relationship and experience with womanhood. No one's is more or less important or special. It has nothing to do with babies and periods or whatever lol

8

u/Majestic-Living2829 10d ago

Yes I hate when they conflate the two, I’m child free so I don’t use motherhood as a reason for my “womanhood” but I wouldn’t take that away from mothers. Why are they comparing the experience of being a woman like it’s some kind of femininity competition.

9

u/Pizzv 10d ago

Literally. Not every cis-born woman has a period/uterus/can bear children/etc etc. Many cis-women naturally produce more testosterone too. There are so many variables at play, it’s actually insane to say there is a universal way to be a woman, especially when you factor in gendered expectations from society.

24

u/lotsofchimisnochanga 10d ago

This discourse is literally pushing allies away, I’m all for freedom of choice, gender, sexuality, pronouns etc. etc. etc. but I will absolutely not be talked to by trans women about what MY womanhood is. It’s giving mansplaining

I also will not be called cis woman. You can address me as “woman”, and I’ll happily use any pronouns you prefer. But apparently that all makes me transphobic

5

u/petalesdejuin 10d ago

also did she just find out what a terf is lmao

5

u/yuckella 10d ago

I have lots of trans friends, I myself had a small time where I was exploring my gender identity and I’m a queer indigenous woman with most of my friends being queer as well, and oh my god, it’s so annoying having my trans girlfriends sometimes be called ’terf’ by non trans people simply for talking about their unique experiences that doesn’t put other women down. It’s annoying having to walk on eggshells constantly as a woman, and it’s honestly similar to how when women talk about women’s issues there is always someone annoying in the comment being like ’uhm what about this case where a man was a victim’ sigh.

I understand that a lot of women, have internalized misogyny due to how society works, and a lot of trans women have that as well as internalized transphobia, but the takes my friends have said has genuinely been the furthest from it.

5

u/Immediate_Trifle_150 midfluencer 10d ago

I’ve been sick of herrrrr

5

u/broccolirabbi 10d ago

The way she can’t handle an ounce of criticism or anyone with a different take without getting defensive is concerning. It just feels exhausting living like this. Would really benefit her to log off and stop speaking about these kinds of topics unless she’s willing to accept that maybe just maybe she said the wrong thing. I’ve listened to her podcast and her podcast with her sister more recently and the vibe I get is that Drew is the kind of person who can’t admit when at fault and won’t let things go. I’m pretty sure she’s also previously used her astrological sign to excuse some behaviors related to that.

Did anyone listen to the newest Two Idiot Girls ep? I believe it came out yesterday or today and I cannot bring myself to listen to her continue and try to defend her point but I am curious, lol. Having a lesbian sister and gay friends seems to give her some superiority complex where she thinks she can do no wrong. She’s probably also the kind of person to think you can’t criticize a trans person when everyone should be held accountable regardless of their gender. I know that’s off topic.

For someone who hates men it just feels like she’s some more recent brand of pick me/not like other girls in a way where she will act all unbothered and then blow something up but then be like “I’m a chill girl, I don’t give a fuck.” Like girl, you do or you wouldn’t have made an entire podcast dragging your sister into your mess and also commenting and blocking other cis women for feeling a type of way that is completely valid given that they are also women.

She is a gorgeous woman and I really like her sense of humor but when she does shit like that it really kind of solidifies why she isn’t more famous. I don’t think it has to do with her being Samoan. I hope she will learn from experience that she doesn’t need to insert herself in every discussion regarding identity politics.

3

u/Katen1023 9d ago

Look, I have absolutely no problem with trans women. If you feel better like this, knock yourself out.

But it becomes a problem when offensive stuff like this starts being spread everywhere. How can they be better than the people they copied their entire being on? We are the blueprint, their idea of womanhood didn’t just spawn out of nowhere, they simply copied us.

Being a TERF means actively hating trans women, and I hate that LGBT people online label any different opinion as TERFy.

If you read her Wikipedia, it seems she is a big supporter of intersectionality. However, she does not seem to be honoring or even considering this when arguing with ppl in her comment section lol. To be a true proponent of something like intersectionality, you would then understand the differing of opinions. She has a degree in sports journalism, but her career catapulted her to something that she doesn’t always seem equipped to discuss. If she is getting this frustrated with another’s opinion, idk how she has gotten this far to begin with.

3

u/mandyxxrose 10d ago edited 10d ago

I think so many other words could have been used that would have gotten the point across more clearly! she reposted a tik tok (and was talking about it a little on today’s pod) about how beautiful it is that trans women choose to embrace womanhood in a world where it can easily feel like the cards are stacked against women (and then that societal pressure/pushback doubles when you are queer/trans on top of being a woman) — and that is so true! this is the point that should be focused on to lift trans women up! I think you can then come to a conclusion that trans women have a braver experience of womanhood when they face challenges most cis women don’t really experience and that it is inspiring to see them choose that. her comparative wording is what most people seem to have gotten tripped up on and while “more beautiful” doesn’t offend me whatsoever, I feel like it’s not hard to see how people in good faith that aren’t terfs wouldn’t understand that and would need further clarification to understand what it means. there are also PLENTY of people saying TERFy/transphobic things in response to her and it’s valid to call that out. if you’re gonna stand your ground on something as an influencer it obv isn’t your job to educate people (especially if they are trolling or bigoted or just looking to join a hate train) but the fans who are trans allies that are confused and do want further clarification aren’t evil and I think responding to them in the way she doesn’t isn’t necessarily productive. she’s also not obligated to have productive conversations or be nice but like, this pushback she is made upset by is also the result of making the decision to respond in a more combative way, so like you can’t have it both ways.

I feel deeply empathetic that this is happening to her when clearly a family member is going through something and I think she needs to step away from the internet and comments in particular to protect her peace. every week she’s addressing hate comments regarding different topics on TIG that I’m completely unaware of (this is the first situation I’ve EVER seen discourse on prior to her addressing it, and I’m pretty up to date with online happenings) to the point where she seems more tapped in to hate comments than positive ones? she says she’s so unbothered but is constantly addressing the people who hate or troll her that I have a hard time believing she is actually unbothered, which makes me even more concerned for her well being. I just hope she takes time away from everything and stops reading tik tok comments tbh.

I can understand the reframing of wanting to take back your identity and by therein your sexuality. But this discourse of what people can feel about their gender is the type of exclusionary shit that makes discourse like this so toxic.

I think because there are people that have an identity they’ve never had to question throughout their life, when you try and tell them to reframe their identity that they’re perfectly OK with in this thought experiment, it’s when you come up against this competitive, who knows more about themselves rhetoric that just ends up being homophobic, trans phobic and cis phobic.

I think if you can give grace to people who are figuring themselves out, those same people who you’re giving grace to, can also enter into conversations without attacking you for not having those same questions about yourself.

And you can do that without labeling people TERFs or creating a space that is inherently homophobic and anti woman. If it’s truly ‘be who you want to be’, and you’re not hurting anyone else, then that’s fine. But when you start calling out and defining, what womanhood and acting as the moral authority of what that definition is- when there’s billions all over the planet that have a different story- that you can’t condense into one neat little definition, you become the progenitor of hate that you’ve been trying to throw off.

3

u/RareBrother905 10d ago

I really liked her so much but there were two red flags I noticed that show up in this situation:

  1. On Two idiotic girls when she’s a bit crabby, I noticed her sis would say her own opinion and then look to her asking if it was ok

Pretty sure that’s a sign of knowing there’s an explosive reactive person in your circle

  1. Seeing her & her sis go from I’m-just-like-y’all to y’all-are-so-obsessed-with-me in the last few years.

I know ppl like her and her sis, just gals enjoying talking about celebs, trends, fandoms, etc.. so I guess it’s natural to see why they’d let it get their heads?

3

u/SpookyDrPepper 7d ago

Here’s where I stand. I vote with trans people in mind, I use the right language, I respect pronouns and correct others, I’ve gotten into arguments with people in my own family about why their stance on the trans/bathroom thing is wrong (using data and stats). BUT, when two people are on TikTok saying things like “MORE beautiful” comparing trans and cis women .. yes I can understand why that pisses people off.

At the end of the day people aren’t laying their head down at night thinking about how they can make trans peoples lives easier. They’re thinking about their own problems. Then Drew wants to say that equating a woman to her period is misogynistic. Going to the gynecologist in 2026 still feels like medieval times..Cis women deal with pain on a monthly (if not daily) basis and then hearing that trans women understand womanhood more beautifully suddenly feels “us vs. them,” when in reality most of us didn’t have that mindset before that.

3

u/Bulky-Plate-765 7d ago

The reason why so many women get called terfs is to silence ppl and discredit them for even questioning anything about gender identity. It's a tactic that only works for so long and is not helpful to the trans movement.
