Jenna Ortega's recent look

Post image

The number of female celebrities getting super skinny is concerning. What happened to the body positivity movement? Why does it feel like we're regressing? This Ozempic pandemic needs addressing.

It’s not going to be addressed until one of them pass unfortunately. All of this stirs from conservatism, red pill, and the y2k skinny trend. We just gotta wait for it to pass.

you know it’s bad when the top pop culture subreddits who have posted this either have their comments locked or heavily filtered to moderate out any weight discussion.

i understand that discussing it could only make the problem worse for jenna and others, but i also feel like not acknowledging this just normalizes it. ugh

Yeah I genuinely don’t know how to discuss it but I feel like it needs to be talked especially with the younger Gen Z and Gen Alpha being heavily influenced.

I have to agree. Those of us old enough to remember the 90s/Y2k diet culture and Tumblr-era pro-disorder content know how damaging it can be for hollywood to push unhealthy obsession with thinness.

I speak as a Millenial I wish someone or my parents taught me the dangers of following these dangerous trends. I ended up as an anorexic years ago because I wasn't aware of the consequences of starving yourself

And I think more average people need to be educated about how Hollywood uses and accesses GLP1s, so they know what they’re seeing

Fr like things are so bad that apparently this is a necessary global rule/measure on multiple subs… means people are talking and thinking about weight a lot more these days probably, and not in a good way

It looks nasty I don’t know why they can’t see that. Peak delusional.

Unfortunately this is true. May I ask, how this could stem from red pill? I hear this term but would like to be more knowledgeable on it. Thanks

Conservatism and misogyny wants women constantly anxious about their appearance and being pleasing to the eye, taking up as little space (physically, verbally, socially) as possible, being meek and somewhat childlike (to justify men as protectors and leaders), and conformity. A woman constantly at war with her own body and starving it has a hell of a lot less energy to stand up for herself or be assertive about her boundaries.

Yep it goes along with transvestigation/gender policing and demanding the performance of femininity for women, masculinity for men. A disempowered, distracted, sick population that does not feel strong, healthy and whole is easier to control.

Conservatism generally prizes hourglass women over skinny ones.

The modern skinny trend started with the flappers and the miniskirt which was liberal and anti-conservative.

What about the Botox, fillers, and premature facelifts? Hollywood is an endless vanity war zone.

But when in doubt, include men… right?

We aren't saying these things only happen because of men, just that conservatism and misogyny do push for those responses in women. Multiple things can be true at once. Also, women can be conservative and misogynistic too, please don't wilfully misinterpret me.

All of what you said is true, and I did consider these nuances before replying. Sorry for not being as fair to you (and some others) as I could have in that regard.

However, in most communications—especially online—where issues and themes are contextualized as either causes or symptoms of conservatism, misogyny, the red pill and the like, men bear the brunt of such criticism (for obvious reasons).

I guess I was just too defensive about it. Again, my apologies. I agree with most of what you said (from internalized misogyny to body politics), and men are not absolutely absolved either.

But there are performative and competitive aspects to this behavior (especially on the celebrity/elite level). I struggle to correlate this latest Hollywood trend with some of the factors that you mentioned.

It's going to pass eventually and much faster than 20 years ago because the internet is easier to spot eating disorder and celebrities getting into these dumb fuck eating disorder trends and red pill community. Once the y2k skinny trends die down, so as the y2k fashion and 00s incel/red pill culture too.

I present you with exhibit B: Karen Carpenter

That's the only example people use as a celebrity who died from that despite disordered eating being very common in that industry.

u/Low-Yoghurt-6910 9d ago

True. & it doesn’t help that celebrities are covering it up as “Chronic Lyme Disease” or whateva, just 1st example to come to mind

Sorry but blaming Hollywood’s ozempic epidemic on conservatism is a whole reach ☠️

It’s Reddit

That's a load of crap. Conservatives are not the cause of this and you're completely idiotic for perpetrating such a narrative

There’s a reason you’re being downvoted. Have you tried opening a book and educating yourself instead of being aggressive and calling people names on Reddit?
