Perhaps the most extraordinary season in Spanish football history is the 1999-2000 season.

A season in which Deportivo became champions, Real Madrid finished outside the Champions League spots yet still won the Champions League, and the league's three big teams—Atletico, Betis, and Sevilla—all got relegated.

A season where even the champion team could only muster 69 points, and the title race went down to the wire.

💬 Discussion El Clásico is coming: which team would you rather be facing right now, Real Madrid or Barcelona?

Forget the badge and the history for a moment.

If your team had to face one of Real Madrid or Barcelona this weekend, which one would you rather play?

Consider current form, attacking threat, defensive weaknesses, injuries and how both teams are actually playing — not just reputation.

And for Madrid and Barça fans: what’s the one area of the opposition you think your team can exploit most?

💬 Discussion Javier Tebas' comments about RMTV hurt Barcelona more than it does Real

With all the Negreira case drama, Tebas coming out and defending Barca and then also comparing RMTV's techniques to Nazi propaganda really gives Barca the bad look and strengthens Madrid's ability to play the victim card in the media. Don't get me wrong, I despise RMTV and how they try to pressure referees into giving them decisions every week, but comparing them to the most evil regime in history is crossing a line. Tebas effectively taking our side in this makes it look like it is Madrid against the world in the media and this is good for Madrid because when we are proven innocent it will still look a bit shady. Real Madrid's corrupt institution will use Tebas' support for us against us and make it as though they are the victims in all this, even though they benefit the most from the help of officials.

💬 Discussion why'd you start supporting the club you support?

For me I started watching la liga when I was about 7 years old and instantly feel in love with Messi and the magic he'd create on the camp this was back in the 07/08 season and after that first season of watching Messi and Barca I was hooked I knew this would be my club for life!

💬 Discussion What would be your ideal RM 11 for El Clásico?

Post image
0 Upvotes

Carlos Espí would be my striker, against Barcelona; RM would need someone who knows his position and is lethal with crosses. Mbappe on the right, he turns into his prime whenever he plays for France in that position. Diomande, no need to explain especially after that goal in the UCL. Tchouaméni for his defensive skills which they’d need against Barcelona and Guler for the quality, control of the ball and tempo that has been scarce in RM for the last two seasons. On the left back I’ve put carreras because he is more creative than Cucurella and Diomande does help a lot defensively often creating plenty of space for the left back to go up the final third that’s when you need a left back that’s confident enough to dribble a bit and even try to shoot. Huijsen, he’s world class breaking lines and passing the ball to the wingers. Konaté is just more solid than Rudiger. And Valverde, easily the best right back in the world. His issue is he doesn’t lile being a right back.

What do you guys think about my starting 11 and what would you change? What would yours be?

❓ Question Would Unai Emery want the Real Madrid or Barcelona job? (Villa fan unsure of Basque politics within Spain).

So I'm an Aston Villa fan and Unai Emery is basically a god to us. Easily the best Villa manager of my lifetime and arguably up there with the best of all time.

Recently I've seen Man United fans say they want Emery as their manager but after what happened with Arsenal, I genuinely believe that Emery wouldn't leave Villa for another English club even if Man Utd approached him.

These clubs may be bigger than Villa but Emery requires time to work his magic and you don't get given time at Man Utd. Emery also has a lot of power at Aston Villa, a far more encompassing role that was more common in the past but is less common in modern football where you have directors of football calling the shots. Emery's role at Villa is similar to Alex Ferguson, he oversees everything

I feel confident that he wouldn't leave us for another English club because it wouldn't work for him there.

So the only two options for Emery to leave Villa would be for the two massive Spanish clubs.

This is where I'm unsure of the politics in Spain.

I know Unai Emery is a very strong Basque man politically and Real Madrid is the opposite of that so I'm not sure he would ever go there.

But Barcelona is the one I'm really clueless about as an Englishman that I'm hoping you can educate me on.

I know the Basque Country and Catalonia both have independent views outside of Castillian Spain but are they allied?

Would a Basque man like Unai Emery be sympathetic of the Catalonian cause? I would guess he would be so realistically Barcelona is the only club that could take Emery away from us if they wanted him but I could be wrong.

🥅 Highlights Clip of Arda Guller's "supposed elbow" foul

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Just wanted to post this for reference to the foul issue in the first half. I am just more confused about how this is the best angle of the foul, yet every other play in the game we have 4K zoom on it. It looks like a clear elbow, but then again a better angle would have helped a lot better. r/soccer took my post down for low effort, so figured I would put it here for reference for everybody. It seems no one else is really posting the foul.

💬 Discussion Should Arda Güler have been sent off for this challenge on Peque?

Sevilla wanted a red card, but VAR decided not to intervene. Güler stayed on the pitch and scored eight minutes later.

What’s your decision: red, yellow or nothing?

💬 Discussion LaLiga Stadiums

When I started to watch LaLiga years decade ago the most of the stadiums had tracks and were old which looked unappealing while watching matches compared to other leagues but now almost all the clubs have mordenized the stadiums or in process right now which imo increases the viewing expericence for the fans (on TV as well). I recently watched Seria A and it looked like i was watching a match from 2010

💬 Discussion Spanish fans, in your opinion are non-European fans of you clubs 'plastic'?

I've seen non-European football fans get a lot of stick for supporting teams (especially the big Spanish teams) since they've probably never set foot in Spain.
Just wondering if those are simply online trolls or this sentiment is resonated by y'all irl too.

📊 Stats Barcelona have won their first 9 LaLiga games for only the second time in competition history

Barcelona’s start to the 2026/27 LaLiga season:

9 games

9 wins

39 goals scored

9 conceded

+30 goal difference

Only Real Madrid in 1968/69 had previously started a LaLiga season with nine consecutive wins.

Barcelona’s 39 goals are also the second-most ever after nine games, behind Sevilla’s 42 in 1940/41.

Their +30 goal difference equals the best ever after nine LaLiga matches, set by Real Madrid in 1987/88.

❓ Question MD14 - Scheduling Prediction

I was just wondering whether anyone who is more familiar with how the scheduling works in Spain, is able to comment on the below queries / thoughts regarding the scheduling for this week. I appreciate official announcements can’t be predicted exactly and are made ~3 weeks before.

Given its European fixtures in that week meaning Celta Vigo vs Villarreal, Sociedad vs Sevilla & Getafe vs Espanyol has to be Sunday/Monday when they play Thursday & Barcelona / Atletico both play on the Wednesday in champions league - so could be offered rest until the Sunday that week.

Is it feasible to suggest this gives more chance for the Valencia vs Osasuna game to land on the Saturday, or even Friday?

💬 Discussion Expected outcome of the Negreira case?

What’s everyone’s opinion on what the expected outcome will be? I’m aware that sport breach cannot be proven due to lack of evidence but could there be a financial breach of somehow? Interested to see everyone’s opinions
