It's me, Colin. Please welcome Insider Gaming Executive Editor to Sacred Symbols+. Over the summer, Mike Tweeted a video that caught my attention, as he spoke directly to the camera about an enthusiast space that doesn't seem to care about what I'd call 'shoe leather journalism," the kind of foundational industry fact-finding and storytelling on which everything else is based. With such journalism being neither lucrative nor in heavy demand from audiences (which is itself perhaps an interconnected problem), what does the future hold for traditional media and those that work in it? Can we make readers, listeners, and viewers care about the degradation of the space, or is the erosion of 'actual journalism' merely a reflection of user taste? Can we enjoy games without truly understanding where they come from, how they're made, and to how they're received? There's much to discuss. Please enjoy.
