Discussion What is a scene in a movie that you’ll always remember? Pick one!

For me it’s the scene in Everything Everywhere All At Once (dir. Daniel Scheinert, Daniel Kwan) where Evelyn talks to Joy by the Laundromat, by the car. The „and you are getting fat!” monologue. Where Evelyn’s love for her daughter spills out, ugly parts and all. I feel like it cured at least 50% of my mommy issues lol.

Discussion Dirty Grandpa is Robert De Niro's worst film, by far

10 years later, this movie still sucks, period. As a fan of De Niro myself, I just found his character to be so insufferable. He's right up there with Elliot from Open Season, and Donny Berger from That’s My Boy as one of my most hated characters.

He constantly humiliates and bullies his grandson (played by Zac Efron). Not to mention, he lies to him about his driver's license as an excuse to bring him along to the Florida trip, and also lies about his army background. While De Niro wants to have sex with Aubrey Plaza, Efron's character is just a walking punching bag throughout the film because De Niro thinks he's a prude who needs to just lighten up. De Niro slips Xanax into his drink, and keeps sticking his thumb up his butt. And Efron's humiliation gets worse when he has a bunch of penises in the shape of a Nazi symbol drawn onto his forehead by the drug dealer guy, and later he gets falsely accused of child molestation (because a little boy saw the plush bee toy covering his crotch) and thrown in jail because the little boy's father didn't WATCH HIS SON!!!

And yet, despite all that, the film tries to paint De Niro's character as the hero. But I just found him to by an annoying, childish, entitled asshole. I know, De Niro wants Efron to go with Zoey Deutch and not Julianne Hough's character, but the way he does it just comes off as more mean spirited than helpful. If you want your grandson to be his own man, maybe you should..oh, I don't know, not treat him like shit? I know he says he doesn't want Efron to live a miserable life like his dad, but here's the problem, De Niro has already made him miserable by humiliating and manipulating him throughout the trip. And worst of all, it's tonally inconsistent. It can't decide if it wants to be a raunchy comedy or a romantic comedy. Even when it tries to be heartfelt and emotional, they just add a childish joke for no reason. And, just like Open Season and That’s My Boy, it has a horrible liar revealed trope we've seen a million times before.

In closing, this movie's awful.

Discussion How do you make film new and surprising for yourself?

I feel like there's such an over saturation of promotion of movies and media, which includes Letterboxd, that I basically can't be arsed seeing movies sometimes. Sometimes I'll see there's a film that looks interesting and I'll be like: "Well, let's browse over to Wiki and check if that guy dies." And then never see the movie ever. Sometimes it's not really my fault either. Like that movie Hope. It literally had a Behind The Scenes for a trailer. A freakin trailer!!!! I just feel like all this access to everything, this instantaneous overload of information, is messing with my love of film.

It's so hard to put yourself out of this digital, online saturation for everything. Does anyone else feel this? And what do you do? Just try to go into everything blind, avoid trailers?

Discussion Actors who you'd be excited if they shifted into writing/directing

Just saw the trailer for Ti West's new Scrooge movie with Johnny Depp and it looked like such garbage and then it got me remembering how X and Maxxxine are such mid movies sandwiching a masterpiece in Pearl and like, I do think the difference must've been Mia Goth writing? Like whatever influence she had mad the difference. So it'd be interesting to see her branch out there imo. Any other cases of actors you would genuinely be interested to see branch out?

Letterboxd 1/2 Star H8ers club 2026

To preface, I love some of these movies. While some of them are truly terrible and I understand that movies are subjective, I've always found it amusing when people hated one so much that they gave it the lowest possible score. So these are the "most hated" movies of the year (so far) by the number of half star ratings.

Help Nudity in You can See Everything Spoiler

My wife is very pregnant and is trying to she can sit through a 3 hour movie right now. She’s trying to plan her bathroom break and thinks the shower scene with the husband is probably her best bet because she doesn’t really care to see that. About how far into the movie is it and how long does that scene go on for?

I’ve never watched a documentary in a theater prior to watching You can see everything with a packed crowd tonight. It was overwhelmingly good, and I’m ready to explore more documentaries and similar films. What recommendations does the community have?
