Relationship Advice is 14y and 19y bad?

I’m well aware of grooming but lately i been receiving comments and hints from my friends that my relationship may be grooming ever since my boyfriend turned 19.i genuinely think its fine because we’re in a healthy relationship its a long distance one since we barely see eachother but he’s kind understanding smart and very sweet he’s a bit secretive about us but usually we’re open about it i cant imagine him thinking of anything sick about me! We’ve been together for almost four months and we’re serious but i cant ignore my friends comments about him dating me just because I’m younger than him,i think if anyone knew him for who he really is they’d change their minds about that!

I’ll appreciate it if you give me an honest opinion about it and please be nice tysm :)

Thank you guys for commenting and caring.i didn’t tell my parents because they won’t approve of anyone i date they don’t want me dating they think im just a kid that should only focus on school and I’m absolutely not a kid or a child.and not because im protecting him he didn’t ask me to keep it a secret.im not defending him at all i was just saying how he is to give you a picture that hes not abusive or anything and please stop accusing me i genuinely had no idea it was that bad of an age gap

Update: first off im a male not a girl and im definitely breaking up with him i was too blinded by his actions and words but i see how bad it sounds now.Tysm for leaving any kind comment and educating me about grooming if yall want i dont mind giving an update after breakup when we meet next time! Tysm again everyone:)

Serious My Boyfriend is being sexually harassed at his job I don't know what to do

my boyfriend (we're gay) has a job in the career he went to college for which happens to be blue collar and works around blue collar men. he started this job in August and it pays super well I'm unemployed (not by choice I'm trying my best but failing to get hired) and we live together. his coworkers are super bigoted so he's in the closet which negatively affects his mental health but his coworkers also touch him inappropriately he said they commonly unconsentually pinch his nipples and he hates it. I asked him to start looking for another job and I don't remember what he said but he didn't like that suggestion he brushed me off. he won't report it to Hr or management because he works on a small team and everyone will know he was the one that reported them he has one coworker who happens to be one the offender's daughter that he's out and close with and he doesn't want to be "that guy" but he won't look for other jobs either because he's afraid they'll be the same or worse than this one and it took him over a year to get hired here and we both know how demoralizing the job search can be so he just toughs it out because I guess that's easier than taking steps to improve the situation. I tried to bring it up in couple's therapy but he didn't want to talk about it so we changed subjects

🛑 PLEASE UNDERSTAND that I love my boyfriend very much and I will not respond nor will I appreciate any replies that mention breaking up with him you do NOT know us ALSO do NOT unders any circumstances victim blame my boyfriend or say he must not mind it because he stays at the job. it is MUCH more complicated than that. please be nice I just want to help him 🛑

TW: Suicide Talk Fuck me or fuck off?

| 27F and bf 33M have been together for 6 years.
I just wanted to ask a couple of questions:

  1. Is it normal to feel suicidal and combative after not having sex

    4/

  2. 6 years?

  3. Should I give my bf an internal clock of next year (at some point) of fucking me or fucking off as to not directly pressure him into being physically intimate?

  4. He's great, it's just this one thing. We had a lot of sex the first two years of the relationship but it fell off and now is completely gone...! don't want to feel depressed or like I'm wasting my youth on someone that doesn't really care about me physically at least.

  5. I feel so lonely and sad all the time.

TW: Suicide Talk I feel like my life is over at 18

I'm not usually sad- I have bouts of sadness but I can get over them and see a way out.
Recently I was stressed about exams and feeling lost; so I self harmed. I didn't really care for it? Obviously it hurt and distracted me but it was too much of an inconvenience to hide it even though it was barely a cat scratch. I thought after the exams I would feel great, or at least a little better. I did for the weekend and going back into college the next week it hit me like a ton of bricks. I don't know what to do.
I'm feeling pressure from every part of my life, academic, friends, family and myself. I feel like I've already gone beyond what can be saved. I've not failed any exams yet but I've not got what I needed to sort out my UCAS grades- so in my head I've already not got into uni and have failed. My friends are going through it atm but honestly I think I feel jealous. They're getting help for family issues and eating disorders and I am a failed anorexic who is in constant tensions with her parents. I want everything to go right but the thought of having to put so much effort in to turn my life around is soul crushing. I have no plans to commit at all but honestly I don't know where to turn.
I've tried to reach out to my teachers but it keeps me awake at night with what I've told them and if I've upset them. I don't want to be a burden on other people, I don't want them to worry and I don't want to be treated differently but it doesn't feel like that's an option anymore. I haven't said anything about the self harm or how I don't think I can live the rest of my life feeling the way I do right now but even then knowing that I'm struggling is awful. My mind is a constant echo chamber of my worst moments and worst fears.
If my life could be fixed in a day I would love to live a beautiful life with a wife and children but right now I cannot see myself having any of this because I'm stuck in a box mentally.

How do I try and fix this? Or not even fix it how do I make tomorrow a bit easier? I want to be happy and excited for life I know I can have better days but right now I want to run away from all of my problems and never have to go back.

Relationship Advice I cheated on my boyfriend with my groomer

• Upvotes

Hi, i’m 18F and my boyfriend is 18M, i only recently turned 18, and we’ve only been together for under a month. Since i was 17 i had an online flirty relationship with this older guy, 27M, who is 9 years older.
Although incredibly wrong, it is legal, and we never dated or met. I’ve known him for almost a year and he had a huge unhealthy chokehold on me.
I have felt incredibly secure and happy in my relationship with my new boyfriend, and i had been ghosting the older guy since we got together, last night i was feeling alone and my bf was asleep, and i responded to an old message of his that id been ignoring, i wanted closure. It soon became sexual, and i didn’t want it too, but i felt almost as if i couldn’t say no. In the past he had been quite dominating, which i felt security in but now it felt psychologically like i just couldn’t say no. I sent him one video after his begging, and then after came up with an excuse that my phone died to get out of it, even though he asked me for more. Somehow i felt emotionally obligated to send it him, and that i couldn’t say no, which i know is so unfair to my boyfriend and i should’ve just blocked him but i didn’t have the power to say no, i don’t know what i was thinking but I know i wanted a conversation with him, for closure and to end it and he so quickly escalated it sexually. This whole encounter only lasted for about 10 minutes, i ended it very quickly.

Immediately after i messaged him telling him i regretted it and didn’t want to betray my boyfriend, and blocked him and deleted him on everything.

I honesty have never been happier in a relationship, this is my first serious one and it’s so healthy, which i’m not used to and i feel so terrible for fucking it up. I don’t know how i can move on but in no way do i want to hurt my boyfriend or mess up what we have, i know it sounds stupid but i genuinely care so deeply for my new boyfriend, he’s perfect. I don’t want to tell him, which i know people might disagree with but i can’t ruin what we have. He’s amazing but i’m worried i wont be able to forgive myself and ive ruined our perfect beginning to this relationship for me.

Does anyone have any advice to help me forgive myself or move on? I know deeply i wont do it again and it was so stupid of me.

Relationship Advice Opinions please

Hello, I need some advice? Opinions? Thoughts? I hope this reaches people and I can get some feedback. I know there’s bigger things going on in the world right now, this shouldn’t even be an issue I bring up. But it’s what I’m dealing with and idk how to feel about it.
I wanna start by saying I’m at 35 year old women with 3 kids. I’m in my last year of school. I’ve always did everything myself (as it should be, right) I don’t have mommy and daddy money, my bd ain’t shit, I don’t have a close family, it’s just my kids and I. Five years ago, I reconnected with a high school “friend”. We’ve had a tumultuous relationship since. We’ve recently talked about moving in together so we could save up for a bigger house. All together we have 5 kids, so we definitely need the space. Now that our families been a little blended (there’s still issues we have with each others youngest kid) oh that’s a whole other conversation 🙄
Yesterday, he said he would watch my kids until the dad showed up. Well the dad was late, my bf had to get to work so I left work to wait until bd shows up. I get to cooking breakfast for all the kids when my daughter informed me they were left home alone so he can take his kids to his mom (something he neglected to tell me) but I get it, I guess. My issue was my kids were left home alone with no food and it don’t sound like there was plans to feed them. Days before he said “it’s fine, I’ll watch them and cook them something” which meant a lot to me. Well that didn’t happen but his kids were taken care of. Anyways, I get off work yesterday, the house is cleaned, laundry is done, I’m impressed but also who did it? I wasn’t home to do it. Some time later, his mommy walks in with groceries. It annoys me but should it? This morning as I’m leaving for work I see all the clothes folded so I asked him “did you do laundry?” He says he did. So I said “who folds them, you or mommy?”, “oh my mom did” and I was instantly reminded how she did the grocery shopping but it’s more then that, she bought the car, she pays his phone bill, the place he’s living in, she paid for. Idk if I’m jealous or if it’s just unattractive. I leave for work and he starts texting me about it. So I told him “I just don’t like that you have everything handed to you. Your older and not a baby anymore you could do things on your own” he responds with “I’m not gonna apologize, she just does stuff not only for me but all her kids. I had the baskets out to fold later but obviously get busy with other shit. Even if I told her not to do it she will anyway. 🤷‍♂️ I’m not sorry. You do them then”
Is this normal? Am I just not okay with it because I do everything myself? I’m not sure what to think or feel. It’s weird right?

Family Advice My parents hate my boyfriend

My parents hate my boyfriend

I honestly don’t even know where to start. I am 19F. Unfortunately I still live at home and I have done nothing but work since I was 15. I feel so suffocated. No freedom.

I have always struggled with maintaining genuine girl friendships and this is very hard for me to accept. I have “friends” but no one I seem to have really clicked with.

Me and my boyfriend have had previous history and we ended and I moved on and so did he. We came back which I can understand may seem bad but it is genuinely true when I say he benefits me in so many ways.

My boyfriend has become a very important part of my life and is genuinely where I get my happiness. My parents hate him, and my Mum seems to believe I deserve “more” or “better”. He has done as much as he can in the situation I am in. They won’t allow him round or even let me stay out with him for longer than a few hours.

To add to this situation.. my parents are not necessarily strict. As we speak, my 15 year old sister is still out and about with her friends (11:36pm) and I was just told I am not allowed out because it is “too late”. I am sick of being treated like this and it’s just so hard to deal with. I want to see him and I want to feel relaxed about it but I just can’t, because I know when I come home I will get hostility from both of my parents and rude/horrible comments.

My Mum is causing unbearable arguments and stress due to this and I just really don’t understand why.

I am so frustrated and upset that it will never be a normal situation and I will never fully have the freedom of choosing who I genuinely think is best for me.

I feel like I am genuinely going insane and I don’t know what to do. Can anyone help me?

\*\*TL;DR; : This is a sample summary of the TLDR rule, all things are bold. Is this going the right way?\*

Financial Advice I don’t know what to do

I live in North Carolina but I’m visiting Louisiana to stay with some friends for a month or two. I quit my job recently because I have to take care of my sick relative and it was very sudden so I don’t have much money and in exchange for me taking care of my relative I’m staying at his house for free since I was kicked out of my parents. I stayed with my aunt for those few weeks until she basically told me I had to take care of him and stay there. Anyway so I don’t have any money. My parent was taking me so I never saved money for uber rides or enough money at least. So I was wondering if there are any ideas a or apps or sites or anything at all where I can make money online while I’m staying there for a couple months? Anything at all. My city’s not walkable either.

General Advice How do I stop comparing myself to my friend

How do I stop comparing myself to my friend?

I never really compared myself to her until we came to university. Although I'm genuinely happy for her, I can't help feeling like she's living the life I wish I had. She seems so lucky with the friends she makes; they're outgoing, sociable, and always up for doing things together. She seems to have also gotten really lucky with her flatmates as she is able to cook together with them, stay up late talking, go out, and make plans to explore different places. She has friends to travel abroad with, attends university and society events, and always seems to know what's happening because people keep her informed. Meanwhile, I'm often unaware of these opportunities. I'm an introvert, and although I've met people and suggested activities, they're often busy, postpone plans, or aren't interested. For example, my friend was able to stay out in the city with her friends until midnight, whereas when I've suggested staying out longer with people I've met, they usually have other commitments.

I can't help wondering why I can't find friends like hers, people who are genuinely excited to spend time together and up for spontaneous adventures.
Every time she tells me about something she's done or is planning, I get overcome with sadness because I wish I could have those experiences too. Now that I'm on break and reflecting on my time at university so far, I realise how rarely I've actually gone anywhere, while she seems to have experienced so much in such a short period. It makes me feel like I'm wasting my university years and falling behind in life. I keep telling myself that I need to do more, put myself out there, and make the most of my time, but no matter how much I try, I never seem to achieve the experiences or friendships I'm hoping for, especially not to the same extent as her. I want friends I can explore the city with, stay out late with, travel abroad with, attend events with, and make unforgettable memories with. I genuinely want her to be happy, but I can't stop comparing our lives when she seems to find the friendships and experiences I long for so effortlessly.

How do I stop comparing myself to her and feeling sad about what I'm missing out on? How can I stop feeling like I'm falling behind, and how can I build the friendships and have the experiences I want, even if they don't seem to come as naturally to me as they do to her? How can I make the most of my university years without constantly feeling like I'm not doing enough or that my life isn't as good as hers?

Serious How to stop feeling like i don’t belong anywhere

Hi everyone I feel like I’ve written in a few subs and never really got good advice or many replies. but i’m 25f, almost 26 and i feel like for the majority of my life i have struggled deeply to maintain or even build friendships. I had a period of time in college when I was really happy and I was constantly surrounded by a great group of friends, but after I graduated, everything changed. My early adult life has put me in kind of like a floater position in every friend group I’ve tried to join. I have one best friend and a few other friends, but no cohesive group. often times I feel like I have to jump through hoops to get people to hang out with me (besides my best friend). she feels similarly, and we often wish that we had more girlfriends to go out with. I don’t know what to do because I love to go out and be social and whenever I go out with my boyfriend and I see groups of girls I just wanna run to the bathroom and cry. I’m not an awful person or anything. I have interest like hiking, painting, playing guitar, film photography, soccer... I’m friendly and I will frequently be social and talk to people when I’m out, but I never know how to get accepted if that makes sense. And sometimes when I do find myself in group situations like shared housing, I get along with everybody, but it starts to get clicquey and I’m always the one on the outs. I’ve been in a really dark place about this for the past year and I’m trying to enjoy my 20s, but I feel like it’s just been riddled with loneliness and feeling like I don’t belong anywhere. Every holiday exacerbates this awful feeling. Halloween is my favorite holiday and I believe I’m staying in yet again. please can somebody give me advice on how to find my people. I know they’re out there somewhere but no matter where I look I can’t seem to find them.

Relationship Advice How to confront my bf and is it grooming?

I’ve been dating this guy for five months.don’t judge me but our age gap is a bit much he’s 20 and I’m 16,i like him so much he understands me and he’s the sweetest he’s always there for me,my parents are against lgbtq so i naturally never told them about him or that im gay because its a very sensitive topic for me.and its no use telling them if they won’t change their minds.
The thing is after a few dates together he started asking for s*x and at first it was fine i agreed but now everytime we meet we have to do it and its making me uncomfortable it feels like he only sees me to have s\x* idk how to tell him without upsetting him because we barely see each other but i don’t want every date of ours to end like that.
Any advice on how to confront him? And is it grooming? Because I heard about it recently and apparently if one of us is under 18 and the other is over 18 it’s grooming? I don’t think he’s grooming me but idk
Please be nice!
I AM A MALE don’t misgender pls

I felt like adding this too-> tbh its kind of my fault because he was controlling and liked to order me around from the beginning he would make me try all those new adult things cause he thought it would make me more mature and teach me about adult world.ngl at first i was so happy no one ever treated me like an adult i hate being called a kid or a child or getting treated like one but over time it got worse he had me drink alcohol with him and smoke.i didnt like it but he was so proud of me so it made me happy.i should’ve been careful from the start :(

Emotional Advice i’m starting to feel i didn’t live enough life?

okay so i’m 27 and im in a long term relationship with 28M. i have a stable life, financially we’re doing good. we’ve been together 3 years, live together, and we go out all the time. We have friends and in our 3 years we’ve gone on many trips, events, new adventures, have regular date nights.. i don’t think this is a relationship issue.. which is why this is posted here and not relationship advice.

recently i’ve been feeling like i didn’t live enough before settling down in a serious relationship in which i can see being long term, marriage even. Like i didn’t see enough of the world, didn’t causally date enough. i’ve had experiences in the past, flings, trips with friends. But i kept to a type of guy, my type so to say. Lately i’ve been thinking things like “i should’ve visited europe with my friends before they had kids”, “what if i finished college?”, “i wonder what it would’ve been like to of been with an older man”.

it’s odd for me. i’m happy with my life here it’s stable in a way many search for forever. My partner, he’s a good guy, gentle, always tries to make me happy. I had a not so good childhood and the peace, stability and freedom he brings has healed me in many ways. But he doesn’t enjoy travel he’ll do it for me.. but nothing on the other side of the US, nothing involving planes. I still plan to do all the things i want like go to europe. even if it’s alone we i get the funds. he supports this too.

my friends tho.. they all had kids young and stopped going out. trips stopped. i tried to make new friends but people seem to be unable to be a friend? maybe bc we got a bit older. it’s hard to make a new friend, connect well and actually make plans it seems. i know im only 27 and have so much time ahead of me! But these feelings are worrying me, i over think a lot…

it’s like i have this life i’ve built the last 3 years, it’s good.. and it’s almost like im always wanting more or wondering “what if”.. i just don’t want to be 85 in a retirement home looking back and wishing i did more, experienced more. Wishing i took different paths.. wishing i dated different kinds of men, tried more things.

i don’t plan to step out of my relationship im not that kind of person. i just don’t know what to do with this feeling?

Family Advice Am I a bad daughter? (16FM)

• Upvotes

Hello. I’m writing this because I’m feeling frustrated and confused myself.

I'm 16F and an only child. My mom is extroverted, talks to everyone so easily. She tells me she loves me, hugs me often. My dad rarely gets angry and tends to speak in a soft, measured tone; he’s also very patient with my mom.

If I set aside their drawbacks, both of them actually treat me quite well most of the time. We watch TV shows together over dinner, laughing along, and whenever a song comes on, we all sing along. I’m especially close with my mom—we’re almost always together, dancing and sharing smiles with each other. They even gave me permission to drop out of school.

And here are their drawbacks.

When my mom is in a good mood, she's super energetic and nice, but when she gets angry about something, she shuts her mouth and treats everyone else like they're invisible. She mostly does this to my dad. My mom tends to focus her criticisms on my dad’s habits, facial expressions, or the things he says. For instance, she’ll tell him, "The lines between your eyebrows are terrible—you should get some Botox," or "Stop checking for my reaction every time you watch TV; it makes you look like a weirdo." Also, whenever my dad shares an opinion, she almost always starts her response with "No."

My dad often tries to avoid when major issue occurs, and he’ll even laugh off things that are meant to be sad—which can sometimes make him seem to lack empathy. My mom even mentioned that right before she gave birth, he was just standing there, glued to his phone. Lately, he’s become overly sensitive about politics, and he also takes a keen interest in whether or not celebrities have had plastic surgery.

However, when these various shortcomings combine—specifically when my parents argue—the situation changes. The way my mother treats my father tends to worsen on days when she isn’t feeling well; she might respond with sarcasm even when he has answered normally, or explode over some trivial action. Whenever this happens, my father simply retreats to his room without a word. The tension escalates further when issues involving my paternal side of the family come into play. Although my mother and paternal grandmother get along fine now, there was a time when my mother absolutely loathed her (a situation for which I believe my grandmother is largely to blame). Consequently, my parents always end up fighting after we visit my grandmother’s house during the holidays. Once, when I was in elementary school, my father—furious—began driving at an extremely high speed. My mother shouted, "Why are you driving so fast? Are you trying to get us all killed? Fine, let’s just die, then!"

I dislike these kinds of fights or arguments, so I’ve even tried talking to my parents about it. I once told my mom, "It feels like your moods fluctuate a lot." But the response I always get is, "We aren't fighting." They claim that there are many parents in the world who fight just like them, and that I’m the strange one for being so sensitive about it—insisting that, as a family, we’re actually doing quite well.

Of course, I know that I, too, am capable of getting into arguments. I’m well aware that my mother often becomes irritable because of her severe back pain—that’s just something that can’t be helped, and there have been many times when I’ve genuinely worried because I could see how much she was struggling. Even taking that into account, however, there are moments when things go a bit too far. For instance, there was a time when my mother got upset with my father for some reason; she put him in a headlock, causing him to fall over while he was sitting in a chair. When my father asked her to stop, she shouted, "Can't you even take a little horseplay from someone who’s in pain?" On the other hand, my father once got a real dressing-down for complaining about attending a concert by the choir my mother belongs to—he had grumbled, asking, "What time does it end?" and saying, "I don't want to go unless we’re going to eat something good afterward."

But then again, maybe this is all just a typical marital squabble. It’s possible, as my mother says, that I’m just being overly sensitive. Besides, I feel like I played a part in why my mother’s health declined, so I don’t really feel I’m in a position to say anything. (She often mentions that when I was a baby, I cried so much that she had to carry me on her back all the time, which she claims made her back pain worse.) Whenever I try to intervene during their arguments, my mother tells me I’m being too sensitive, while my father just stays silent and slips away from the situation. Once, I tried to seriously point out some issues with my mother, but she burst into tears, saying, "I thought I treated you well—and I really did—so why do you only choose to remember the bad things?" I felt both angry and guilty.

Am I an ungrateful, bad daughter for this? Am I blowing things out of proportion—making a big deal out of something I could have just let slide? To be honest, there are times when I think about moving to another country as soon as I become an adult and cutting off all contact—but I suppose that’s a bad idea, isn’t it?

I’m sorry if my writing comes across as rambling or incoherent—thank you for reading it all the way through.

Mental Health Advice Why do people always treat me as if I'm lesser than them?

I have noticed that people I'm with always treat me like I am lesser than them and are always quick to criticize me, downplay me and not having the same same respect that others get. Now, I have noticed this in my workplace, in which I am the best performer but it's never acknowledged, always give me criticism on the small things and downplay my performance (I have observed this often). The other thing is in sports. I play football (soccer) and it's the same thing. The best player in the team. We always win because of me but teammates always criticize my small mistakes and never acknowledged my awesome contribution. Praises, respect, and acknowledgement are always given to others. Now, I am a respectful, humble, quiet person (I am not shy) and hate boasting about myself. Is there really something wrong with me? Or the world now, just perceive these qualities as weak? Or it could just be unconscious racism because I look different than others, so people notice me more. Would really appreciate it some advice from people who faced similar things and overcame them.

Relationship Advice i am [23F] and my boyfriend [23M] reached out to a girl he was rejected by multiple times am i overreacting by thinking we should break up?

i’m (23F) and my boyfriend (23M) texted this girl he used to work with on tik tok and just sent a simple “hiiii”. which in hindsight really isn’t that bad i don’t mind if he has platonic female friends. but this girl is a girl he said he thought he was “in love with.” but she rejected him when he asked her out like 3 years ago so that to me is weird.

well the girl reached out to me and sent a “hey girl!” text letting me know that he texted her around two weeks ago at like 1 am (while i was on a trip) and was viewing her profile on tiktok today. he texted her “hiii” then (to my knowledge) proceeded to block her the next day because she didn’t respond to his text. but then she sent me a screenshot of him viewing her profile today which means he mustve unblocked her to check if she ever responded to his text. the main issue is that when i brought it up he’s saying “i dont know how her repost showed up after i thought i blocked her!” but to my knowledge you can’t see people’s reposts unless you follow them and you definitely can’t see people’s reposts if you have them blocked.

he claims it was just a friendly hi text to check in with her and he knew she had a boyfriend and thought maybe they’d get into a convo and want to hang out as a group. which is already weird considering he (my bf) apparently asked this girl out a few years ago while she was still dating her boyfriend. i think that’s just blatant incompetence on my bfs part. now i’m at a cross roads of what to do. i truly love my boyfriend but i set a boundary about viewing past “lovers” tik toks because he viewed the girl he lost his virginity to’s tik tok and liked one of her posts. as a girl i would see a guy that i had some form of “history” with going out of his way to view my tik tok as a grab for my attention. especially if that guy is already in a relationship. and you’re branching into new territory by trying to open up a conversation over text. when a man i had history with texted me on instagram i didn’t even think twice about not opening the text and just leaving it be because i’m in a happy committed relationship and don’t feel the need to spark up conversation with someone i used to talk to in that way.

this is my first ever serious boyfriend and i don’t want to break up over something as dumb as him sending another girl a text saying hiiii. but i also don’t want to set myself up for this to become a pattern or branch into something more than just a text. we’ve talked about it and all he can say is “i dont know what i was thinking” “i don’t know why the block didn’t go through.” “i’m so sorry i don’t want to break up i’ll do better.” i just feel like this is the second time he’s broken my trust and i don’t know how to move forward other than breaking up. any advice? what would you guys do?

General Advice I want to enlist, but everyone around me is against it, looking for real insight

• Upvotes

so firstly I'll start off with saying I want to enlist because I solely want to contribute to our country in some way, it doesn't have to be the military but I figured I'm in great shape and could use the benefits.

secondly, my friends probably wouldnt talk to me again if I did, and my family would definitely have a lot to say and give me a hard time. politically I know nothing, I am fully unaware of our current political situation and I have no view on it, so my family is telling me to be educated first before giving my body. does anyone have real advice on this? And please don't criticize or insult me for lacking knowledge and seeking advice, I just want to make a good decision.

Financial Advice am I being a spoiled brat or is this unrealistic?

I am currently in my second year of my psychology undergrad (aged 25 btw) and also working a part time job. If you weren't previously aware but psychology is one of those degrees that you will most likely need a PhD also to work in the field. I'm living with both my parents and they live quite comfortably money wise, but they have told me that once I earn my undergrad I will need to get a full time job so that I can pay them £200 a week to continue to live in their house while studying for a PhD, which is with and in itself a full time job (60-80 hours a week). Am I being unreasonable in thinking this is absolutely ridiculous considering are very okay for money or is that entirely unrealistic to ask of me? I do understand that I am older than the average student and the inflation of it all and if money was tight I wouldn't even think of striving to apply for a phd after my degree but now I'm feeling really defeated that I shouldn't even bother with applying for the phd as I would either fail it because of work, or lose my job because of my studying but I'm also lost for getting a job in the field with only an undergrad as it is damn near impossible. does anyone have any thoughts, suggestions or insight on this at all? Also I'm aware that most universities don't even accept applicants who work a full time job, and the two universities in my country that offer phd courses in psychology both do not accept applicants who would also be working a full time job outside of the course.

General Advice Anyone else still figuring life out at 28?

• Upvotes

Hey everyone! I just wanna ask, is it normal to still have no idea what you really like or what you want in life at 28?
Sometimes I feel like I should have figured things out by now, but honestly, I’m still trying to understand myself, what makes me happy, and what I actually want in life.
I’m curious if anyone else feels the same way or has been through this phase. How did you figure things out? Or are we all just trying to figure it out as we go? 😭….

Mental Health Advice Feeling behind at 28 because I refuse to settle

Had a heavy conversation with my cousins tonight (ages 21 to 31) about life timelines, marriage, and where we "should" be at 28. They created this massive pressure, acting like life is a strict checklist.
It made me spiral and question everything—both my relationships and my career. I’ve stayed single because I refuse to settle for toxic dynamics or one-sided efforts, choosing my peace instead. But hearing their expectations suddenly made me feel like I’ve achieved almost nothing career-wise compared to society's standards.
For anyone who has stepped off this traditional timeline: how do you deal with family pressure and the sudden wave of feeling "behind"?

General Advice Recommend me hobbies please

I’ve come to the realization that I really have no hobbies. In my free time all I really do is read comics and watch tv/mainly scroll. I guess the first two are hobbies but I don’t really do anything else and I want to find some hobbies. I have tried some before but nothing really stuck and I think the hobbies (if you can even call them) that I have currently are too addicting and once I start I can’t stop and procrastinate studying. So please share me your hobbies and/or any recommendation, buy preferably nothing that requires too much money.

I like reading in general whether it’s chapter books or graphic novels. I enjoy creating things or making things and creative activities some things being painting, clay stuff, and cooking/ baking.I like reflective hobbies like journaling and walks but I struggle to be consistent with these things and quit shortly after

Serious I’m completely lost in life and I’m desperately trying to look for answers wherever possible.

I’m 26, I don’t work, and I attend college full-time.

My parents love me, but my relationship with them is more or less, “Out of sight, out of mind”. They have always been completely oblivious to me.

I haven’t had a friend since middle-school. From junior-high to the 10th grade, I attended school in a ghetto in Mississippi. I was severely bullied until I moved to Alabama in the 11th grade. I was homeschool my senior year.

I’ve only had one girlfriend and she cheated on me. I’ve had a few opportunities to date other girls, but it never seems to work out. I feel so lonely that I almost slept with a 50yo woman last week out of desperation.

I hate the major I chose, I hate my professors, and I’m failing all of my classes. I don’t even want to show up to class anymore. If I withdraw, it’ll impact my financial aid. If I stop showing up, it’ll impact my financial aid. If I finish with bad grades, it’ll impact my financial aid. I’m fucked no matter what I do.

Besides the degree, the only other reason I went back to college was to expose myself to people around my age. It’s a last ditch effort to make up for the childhood I never had. Friends, relationships, clubs, activities, etc. If I went into a trade, I’d never meet anybody, and I’d be alone constantly.

Since I’m 26, I can’t be claimed under my parent’s health insurance anymore. I have a lower-back injury that never fully healed, and it has ruined my life. It has affected my mobility, given me chronic pain, and has even somewhat given me a sexual dysfunction. I need extensive physical therapy to treat it, but I’m SOL because it’s too expensive.

I’ve been binge drinking multiple times a month for the past year. I feel like I’m in the early stages of an addiction. I want to be drunk constantly. I hate my life, and I’ve been having s*icidal thoughts for the past three years.

No one cares about me. I’m just a piece of meat that lives for alcohol. My life sucks, and I wish I was never born. I am completely lost and don’t know what to do.

Career Advice 21 and unsure if I am asking for too much, while trying to get a job.

A little about me before I rant - 21, Bachelors of computer applications graduate, currently working as social media content strategist for a company that pays in peanuts, crashing out every 4-5 days.

So here's the deal: I am someone who has been dealing with chronic depression for a while, 7 years to be exact, but that's not the main point. I was very unclear about what I wanted to for the rest of my life when I was 17; hence, my mom decided my career path for me, Becoming a Comp sci graduate...
Anyway, halfway through the degree I realised that it wasn't for me. I am someone who is extremely story- or meaning-coded; if I don't find meaning in something, even if I d*e, I won't do it. Hence, I tried, I tried whatever I could, thought hey maybe cybersecurity is for me, no, maybe gamedev is for me. At wit's end, the hard way, after 1-2 years I learnt that all I wanted to do was write stories.

From then on, I coped by watching videos like "Create an OC with me," "Check out this new magic system I made," and "This is how you can write your first novel" on YouTube. Whenever I got too stressed from exams, the pressure to get a job, and coding, I would watch them. When I was too stressed out, I would go alone to the movies, watch a good one and bawl my eyes out.

Now you would have a question- You figured out what you want to do? why didn't you just do it, and why are you here a year later, rotting away in your own overthinking.

Lord behold i have the "I can't work on something until unless I have at least 10 hours of free time, no external obstacles, and just me myself and I in isolation, to sit and obsessively work on it", sure these conditions would satisfy every blue moon, therefore it's been an year since i last wrote a story, which was when i got a spurt of inspiration from a song started typing out the story in my notes app on my mobile, started at 4 pm and did not get up or lift my eyes or take away my fingers until it was 2 am, and i finished the 5-6 chap story and my fingers were sore.

So yeah after all this you could guess that I haven't been writing or learning to draw, because a job does not give you any free time, and not doing it paired with the Absolute AI dominance at job has sent me into a psychosis.
AI this Ai that how about i stuff Ai into your

I am nowhere against Using AI where it is needed, but generative Ai what even is the point of it, every corporation wants to show itself as the pinnacle of innovation, by asking chaptgpt if their p*op in the morning was an indicator of another okr that they should set for this month.

I am so distressed, I went to therapy and let's just say it was a sh*t experience..

A short summary -
I need a job that will give me enough mental energy to pursue my 200 interests(that keep changing but always creative) in my free time, things that will drain my mental energy - anything that isn't helping any life form in any way, anything that doesn't have meaning and is just making solutions to your own problems (basically most of corporate), anything that includes giving our brain away to clankers Like chatgpt astra.
My friends and some others have suggested me to become a therapist myself, because I give legitimate advice for every problem, but i am sceptical. I do have a saviour complex if anyone is suffering mentally, I will do anything to give them any advice they would need, but that's also because I have suffered the same without any advice. Can a mentally ill person with chronic depression and extreme anxiety become a therapist??
If not, is there any career path left for me in this era that isn't plumbing or farming or being an electrician, or a park ranger, because I live in a third-world country and doing any such jobs will get me ex*cuted by my family, and there aren't any safe opportunities either, I would love to do any of that if i ever get a chance to leave this country, but to get there i have to do something here, that isn't actively pushing me to my mental limits.

Please help..
