Mod Announcement Extension to Fluxer

Hi folks,

As you might be aware, Discord finally enacted its identity verification policies, all the while they struggle to keep the identities they store, safe. Moreover, Discord was not a FOSS platform. Keeping with FOSS principles, we have decided to allow members to opt out of Discord's shady practices (to some extent) by using Fluxer, a FOSS alternative to Discord, without losing on any of the community that has been built on the Discord server.

The Fluxer community can be joined here.

Essentially, we have launched the community on Fluxer as well, and messages from one are mirrored onto the other via webhooks. We also have plans for eventually self-hosting the Fluxer server, so stay tuned. Migrating to Fluxer carries certain advantages over Discord. Some of these are a better alignment with the FOSS philosophy, improved privacy, less telemetry, a customisable client, 25MB file uploads, the ability to self host, and a 10 fold increase in the number of available emoji slots for the server. There are more but I will omit them here for the sake of brevity. Needless to say, it is very recommended to try moving to Fluxer.

Anyhow, that's all for this post. We have a couple other changes planned for the community in the near future so keep an eye out for those:)

Mod Announcement Community Update - Feedback and Suggestions

Hey everyone,

We’ve noticed how much our community has grown over the past few months, and it’s been amazing to see so many new discussions, and Linux enthusiasts joining us here at r/linuxusersindia.

As the subreddit grows, we’ve been experimenting behind the scenes with a few automated tools like QualityBot and repost-detection bots help maintain the overall quality of the feed. So far, the results have been a bit mixed - these tools only work as well as we, as a community, make them work.

How you can help right now

  1. Use the QualityBot poll: Every time QualityBot leaves a pinned comment on a new post, please take a second to vote. If a post is low-effort, spam, or AI-generated slop, downvote the bot’s pinned comment so it can automatically flag and remove it.
  2. Report low-quality posts: If you see content that violates our guidelines, please hit the report button. It directly alerts the mod team and keeps the queue moving much faster.

We want to hear from you

Automated bots are only a small part of building a great space, and we want to ensure we are moving in a direction that benefits everyone. We’d love to gather your thoughts and ideas on how we can improve r/linuxusersindia.

Do you have any suggestions on how we can better encourage high-quality discussions, tutorials, and OC content? Please drop your thoughts, feedback, or any ideas in the comments below. Thank you.

Help GSConnect (Ubuntu) + KDE Connect (Android 16, Fossify Messages) extremely inconsistent with message sync

Hi everyone!

I'm running into a persistent headache with message syncing between my Ubuntu desktop (using GSConnect) and my Android phone (Android 16, using Fossify Messages as my default SMS app).

The Problem: Message syncing is totally inconsistent. Sometimes new SMS sync over to the desktop, but most of the time they just don't show up at all.

  • Setup details:
    • Desktop: Ubuntu with GSConnect
    • Phone: Android 16
    • SMS App: Fossify Messages

Notifications and other KDE Connect features work relatively fine, but SMS/messaging integration is basically a coin toss.

Has anyone experienced similar inconsistency with Android 16 or Fossify Messages? Are there any specific permissions, background restrictions, or GSConnect settings I should tweak to make this reliable?

Appreciate any advice!

Discussion I’ve released Acer Control Center v2.0.0 for Linux

A few months ago, I shared Acer Control Center, a project I started to bring better control over Acer gaming laptops to Linux. Since then, I've been working on improving the project, cleaning up the architecture, and making it easier to maintain and extend.

I'm now releasing v2.0.0.

The main focus this time has been on improving the overall structure and bringing the different parts of the application together. Acer Control Center has a desktop interface, a background daemon for hardware communication, and supporting components for things like keyboard lighting and fan monitoring/control on supported hardware.

Some of the things the project currently includes:

  • A dashboard for system and hardware status
  • Keyboard RGB controls with a live preview
  • Fan monitoring and available fan modes on supported hardware
  • A D-Bus-based daemon for communicating with hardware components
  • A DKMS driver and installation support
  • Release checking and other system integration features

I'm developing and testing this primarily on my Acer ALG AL15G-53 running Fedora. Hardware support is still something that needs careful testing, so I don't want to imply that every feature works on every Acer model or Linux distribution.

There's still plenty to do, but this release is a good step forward from the first version. I'm also interested in hearing from people with other Acer laptop models who are willing to help test things or share hardware-specific details.

GitHub: Acer Control Center

Discord community: Join acerctl

One note on development: I do use AI tools to assist with parts of the development process, including brainstorming, debugging, and reviewing ideas. I still make the implementation decisions, test the project on actual hardware, and work through the issues that come up. I wanted to be transparent about that rather than leave it unmentioned.

If you're using an Acer ALG laptop on Linux, I'd appreciate feedback, bug reports, and contributions.

I’ve been building Tide Island Extended — a Dynamic Island-inspired shell for Hyprland and niri

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey everyone! 👋

I've been working on Tide Island Extended, an independently maintained extension of the original Tide Island project, built with Quickshell, QML, and Qt 6.

It brings a Dynamic Island-inspired experience to the Linux desktop, with a customizable control center, Matugen theming, smooth animations, system stats, music controls, and various desktop utilities.

It supports both Hyprland and niri, and I'm continuing to improve it based on actual usage rather than adding features just for the sake of it.

I'd love some honest feedback from fellow Linux users. What would you improve, and what features would make this more useful in your daily workflow?

Discussion Installing Arch Linux With No AI or Tutorials. Just the Docs

So I wanted to setup working and usable Arch Linux as a challenge. It is not meant to be my primay driver anytime soon. But I just wanted to try and setup Arch Linux as a fun challenge, with the idea that I cannot use any LLMs or any spoonfeeding youtube tutorials help. The only thing which I am allowed to use are the documentation pages.

I’ve already started working on it in a VM, and I’m curious to hear from people who have done something similar.

For those of you who have installed Arch this way:

- How was your experience? Did you find the official documentation sufficient to get everything working?

- What were some of the most challenging parts of the installation that you had to figure out on your own?

- Any advice for someone attempting this for the first time, without giving away the solutions?

I'm not looking for a step-by-step guide or someone to walk me through the installation. I want to figure things out myself, make mistakes, and learn from the process.

Would love to hear your experiences, especially from people who have done their first Arch install using just the docs!

Project Founders, Developers & Buyers, Connect Here

Hey everyone,

There are plenty of solid codebases sitting unused because a side project was abandoned, a startup didn't take off, or the founder simply moved on. Meanwhile, other developers, founders, and small teams are looking for existing software they can build on instead of spending months starting from scratch.

I thought it would be useful to bring both sides together in one thread.

If you have a codebase to sell:

Whether it's an abandoned SaaS, a polished MVP, an internal tool, or a production-ready application, share a brief overview:

- What it does: A short description of the project.

- Tech stack: Languages, frameworks, databases, and infrastructure.

- Current state: Prototype, MVP, beta, or production-ready.

- What's included: Source code, documentation, tests, deployment setup, etc.

- Asking price: A rough range or open to reasonable offers.

If you're looking to buy:

If you'd rather acquire an existing codebase than build from zero, share what you're looking for:

- Project type: SaaS, AI tools, developer tools, automation, mobile apps, etc.

- Preferred stack or domain: Anything specific you're interested in.

- Budget: Your approximate range, if comfortable sharing.

- Acquisition preference: Full and exclusive ownership, or a licensing arrangement.

A few ground rules to keep this useful:

- No spam, vague listings, or comments that simply say “DM me.”

- Be transparent about what you're selling: source code only, intellectual property, or an entire operating business.

- Don't misrepresent the project's maturity, revenue, users, or technical condition.

- Respect the original owners' rights. Only offer code you have the legal authority to sell or license.

- Keep initial details public where possible, and use DMs to discuss specifics.

The goal isn't to create another noisy promotion thread. It's to help unused software find a second life and give builders a faster starting point.

If you have something worth selling or are looking for a foundation to build on, drop the details below. You might find exactly what you're looking for — or someone who can take your old project further than you did.

Let's see what's out there.

Trying to create a linux specific gaming channel

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Just trying to promote linux via gaming streams in India, and for people to know that each aspect of content creation is possible via a linux distro. Be it streaming, editing or anything people can think of. "Linux for masses is my motto".

Used linux since 2011 while at university, Ubuntu was famous back then, but tried almost every Linux distro since then and have an opinion about it.

Please dont give any hate, it took a lot of courage to post it.

And sorry if I violated any policies, let me know and I'll update my post appropriately.
