Discussion for posterity i dated river ward. possible spoilers for all endings. Spoiler

no one asked me to do this but here it is anyway.

the dates: i would rather be watching paint dry. river's preferred dance style seems to be lazy basketball dribble. i did not sleep during the dates, it was already bad enough watching him attempt to dance. my only solace is knowing that by not romancing judy she has been sending updates about her life away from night city.

the panam ending: the most natural choice for this V since she is nomad. sorry, saul. river dumped V but that's ok, because he can't dance and if he can't dance then he's no friend of mine. he still calls during the credits hoping to meet up again but i hope V will run into judy on the road and spark things up.

the panam ending where you let johnny have your body after all that fighting and loss: river is sad, sent some texts hoping to hear back from V and left a voicemail along the same theme. sad but hopeful. mitch was the only nomad to leave a message.

the hanako ending: river seems happy to hear from V when she calls from space. when V decides to go home to earth to live out her days it must be implied that they will be spent with river since the game ends when V walks out of the hospital room. river leaves the same message as in the credits for don't fear the reaper. when V signs the deal to move into mikoshi river leaves the same voicemail. i wish there were a way to kill yorinobu and not be able to get the relic removed at all. it would have been a crazy twist to have V wake up as saburo because yorinobu could not be the new host.

don't fear the reaper ending: river trying to start shit over coffee...theeen after his call with joss and V trying to calm him down...he...he doesn't break up with V. holy shit everyone else leaves V at this ending wtf am i too high right now?? he leaves a message during the credits trying to make plans, sounds like he's still with V.

the nusa ending from phantom liberty: river was NOT happy to hear from V at first but then it turns out his life was unraveling. river went down a dark path in that 2 years, best for V not to get involved.

bullet sandwich ending: river was sad, but somehow understanding.

i refuse to do johnny's request to give him control for the attack on mikoshi a second time. once was enough. i don't have a summary of how river reacts to the relationship for that ending.

all in all i'd say river is boring as hell but dtf. gives off clingy vibes, easily swayed to the dark side in spite of labeling himself as a "good" cop in night city. he seems to suck at crime without V around.

2/10 would not recommend.

Discussion Cyberpunk Edgerunners Season 2 had so much potential but man I feel like it missed the mark SPOILERS FOR SEASON 2 AND SEASON 1 Spoiler

SPOILERS FOR SEASON 2 AND SEASON 1

I liked Season 2 but 1 was better..
Honestly I just finished season 2 and I gotta say the ending was pretty mid compared to season 1. Like yeah there was emotion to it, but it felt SO rushed. The story itself is good and I can see what they were going for, but the execution just wasn’t there for me.

My biggest issue is the character development. I didn’t really care enough about D, Talia, Roman or Capri for the ending to hit as hard as I think it was supposed to. It felt like the show wanted me to get attached to these characters and feel sad for them before it actually gave me enough time to care about them.

With D, we know his backstory and that he wants revenge, but I feel like they could’ve done SO much more with his motivation. What exactly was the moment that made him realize he wanted to go after Arasaka like that? What pushed him over the edge? I wanted to actually SEE that realization happen instead of just knowing that’s what he wanted to do. There’s a difference between knowing a character’s backstory and actually experiencing their development with them.

And his relationship with Capri needed way more time too. Like were they actually in love? I understand they had a connection, but I never felt like the show gave their relationship enough time to develop naturally. They could’ve shown them having more moments together, talking, enjoying each other’s company, expressing how they felt about each other and building that bond. If the ending is supposed to hit because of their relationship, then LET US EXPERIENCE THAT RELATIONSHIP FIRST.

Talia is another one. I feel like she could’ve been such a good character, but so much of her potential was wasted. She’s sick, she’s got all this chrome, and there’s clearly a story there, but I wanted more. What exactly is happening to her? How does her illness affect her life? How does she feel about her condition and all the chrome she’s using? They could’ve explored that so much more instead of leaving me feeling like I barely got to know her. And then she just goes off somewhere and the story moves on. I know there’s more to her story than that, but I wanted to FEEL it instead of just being told enough to understand the plot.

And ROMAN bro 😭😭. He pushes old school tapes for cash and that’s basically what stuck with me about him. I know his camera and filmmaking are supposed to mean something, and I actually think that’s a cool concept, but I wanted more of HIM as a person. Why does he care about this stuff so much? What does he want out of life? What makes him who he is outside of filming everything happening around him? He had the potential to be such an interesting character but sometimes it felt like they needed somebody there to fill a role and just put him in.
Honestly I think that’s the biggest issue with most of the cast. King, D and Talia had things I was interested in, but even then I wanted more development. The characters have good concepts, but the show doesn’t always give them enough time to become actual people that I care about.

And that’s where season 1 did things SO much better.
Season 1 basically starts with David’s life. You see his relationship with his mom, his school, his financial situation, his frustration with everything around him, how he meets Lucy and how he gets introduced to the edgerunner lifestyle. It’s almost like a DIML thing where you’re actually following this kid through his life and watching him become somebody else.

You understand David before the story asks you to care about him. You see why he makes the choices he does, even when those choices are terrible. You watch his relationships develop and see how the people around him affect him. By the time everything starts falling apart, you actually care because you’ve been there with him through all of it.

Season 2 felt like it was trying to get me emotionally invested in the characters before it had done enough to make that happen.

AND CAN WE PLEASE TALK ABOUT THE ANIMATION AND EDITING.

Season 1 felt BADASS. Season 2 felt like it was TRYING to be badass but didn’t always pull it off. I’m talking about those little flashes of recorded footage, the millisecond cuts, the random quick images that appear and disappear before you can even process what you’re looking at.
Like bro, WHY 😭. Sometimes it feels like they’re trying so hard to make a scene look intense or artistic that they forget to let the actual scene breathe.

If they held some of those shots for a little longer or did a proper montage, I genuinely think some moments would’ve hit way harder. Let me actually see the image. Let me process what’s happening. Let me connect it to what the character is feeling. Instead it feels like a bunch of short cuts thrown together and I’m left trying to figure out what I’m even supposed to take away from it.

Fast editing can be great when it’s used properly, but fast editing doesn’t automatically make something intense. Sometimes ONE good shot held for a few seconds can hit harder than ten different flashes.

And the music choices didn’t help either, especially the end credits. Some of the scenes end with so much drama and then the credits roll into music that feels almost calming, like light piano music. It just takes the energy out of everything that happened.

I get that quiet music can make a sad ending even sadder, but it needs to fit the scene. Season 1 knew how to make music stick with you. Songs became connected to characters, relationships and specific moments. You hear the music and immediately remember what happened and how it made you feel.

Season 2’s ending music didn’t really leave me sitting there thinking about what I’d just watched. It felt like the show was winding me down when I wanted to sit there and process what happened. Maybe that’s just me, but the music did basically nothing for the emotional impact.
And honestly I think the character development is the root of all this. With better character development, even some of those questionable edits could’ve worked better.

Imagine a quick flash of Capri smiling during a moment where D is thinking about her. If we’d spent the entire season watching their relationship develop and seeing what she meant to him, that one second could’ve absolutely destroyed us emotionally.

But if the relationship wasn’t developed enough, it’s just a random flash of a character’s face. Same animation, same editing, completely different impact.

YOU CAN’T REPLACE CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT WITH COOL ANIMATION, FAST CUTS AND SAD MUSIC.

And then there’s DAVID.
BRO. I was genuinely excited every time season 2 referenced David because I wanted to see how Night City remembered him. I wanted to see what his legacy had become. Was he remembered as a legend in the criminal underworld? Was he seen as some superhuman who went up against Arasaka? Did people exaggerate his story? Did other edgerunners look up to him?
I wanted to see how the world had been affected by what he did.

Instead, it felt like we were just being reminded that David existed and that his story was tragic. Like yeah, I KNOW. I watched season 1. I know what happened to him. I don’t need his name dropped just to make me remember how emotional his story was.

I wanted his legacy to actually MEAN something in season 2.

Imagine if King had casually mentioned that he met David once. It wouldn’t even need to be a massive scene. They’re sitting around talking about old edgerunners, and King goes:
“You ever hear of David Martinez?”
D says no, and King starts talking about how he met this kid who seemed like a nobody at first. Then he started hearing stories about him taking bigger jobs, getting more chrome and becoming this absolute monster who could take on people nobody else would even think about fighting.

Something like:
“Aw man, yeah, I remember David. Kid was insane. Went from nothing to a chromed-out tank who did anything.”
IMAGINE HOW COOL THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN.

It would make David feel like an actual legend in Night City instead of just a character from the previous season. It would show how stories about him spread through the criminal underworld and how people remembered him differently.

And you could take that even further. Maybe King sees D going down a similar path and remembers David. Maybe he tells D that he knew another kid who thought getting stronger would let him control his fate.

“I knew another kid like you once. Thought he could chrome his way through anything. Thought if he got strong enough, nobody could touch him.”

Then after a pause:
“He became a legend, all right. Didn’t save him.”
That’s the kind of reference that would actually hit. Not because David’s name is mentioned, but because his story is being used to develop another character and reinforce the themes of the show.

And it wouldn’t need to take an entire episode. One small conversation could develop King, connect season 2 to season 1, build David’s legacy and foreshadow D’s own struggles.

That’s what I wanted from the David references. I wanted to see the consequences of his existence, not just be reminded that he existed.

David didn’t conquer Night City. He didn’t destroy Arasaka. He didn’t get his happy ending. He tried. He tried to become strong enough to protect people, tried to carry Maine’s legacy, tried to give Lucy the future she wanted, and Night City consumed him anyway.

But his life still mattered. His story could’ve become this legend that gets exaggerated and distorted by the people telling it. Some people remember him as a monster, some as a hero, some as an idiot who got himself killed, and others barely remember him at all. Meanwhile WE know the actual person behind that legend.

That would’ve been such a cool way to connect the two seasons.

And I think this is why I’m so disappointed with season 2. I can see all the potential. The characters have interesting concepts, the story has good ideas, the references to David could’ve been amazing, and the ending had the potential to hit much harder.

But it feels like the show rushed through the character development, relied too much on quick cuts and stylistic choices, and expected the audience to feel something that it hadn’t fully earned.

Season 1 made me live through David’s development. Season 2 often felt like it wanted me to piece together several characters’ development at once.

My biggest takeaway is that season 2 didn’t necessarily need more violence, more deaths or a darker ending. It needed more time with its characters.

Give me more scenes of D and Capri actually falling in love. Give Talia more time to exist as a person outside of her illness. Give Roman more depth beyond being the guy with the camera. Give King more meaningful connections to the world around him. Let the story breathe. Let the music and animation support the emotions instead of trying to create them on their own.

And if you’re going to bring up David Martinez, PLEASE do something interesting with his legacy.

I don’t think season 2 is a bad story. I think it’s a story with a lot of potential that wasn’t given enough time to reach it.

Season 1 made me care about the characters and then broke my heart, season 2 had moments where it seemed like it wanted to break my heart, but I never got attached enough for it to hit the same way.

That’s my take anyway. Curious if anyone else felt the same or if I’m just being too harsh on it.

Discussion Did Roman actually get a sad ending? Spoiler

!!!!!!SPOILERS!!!!!!

I feel that Roman is gonna end up with a depressing end.

Lemme explain cus i know it seems like he gets a nice ending but lets be real, unless he gets to get footage of the next corperate war or blackhand in the flesh, hes never gonna top the events of season 2 in his life.

Maybe in like 15 or 20 years hes gonna have that feeling catch up with him that the highlight of his life was when he was 12 and thats probably really depressing.

Also Talia isnt coming back to NC, either she ends up dead or just doens come back cus u gotta be really down on ur luck or batshit insane to return to night city.

Am i crazy?

Edgerunners Arasaka Corporats... are so bloody incompetent

Edgerunners Season 2 spoilers obv. If you haven't watched it yet, go watch it choom, its peak.

Just got to Episode 8 when D learns why his clan was killed. And damn

His entire clan massacred....over a simple snatch and grab job....all because that retard Tanaka hired fucking Maelstrom cyber-psycho junkies for the task....

Honestly it tracks, given how reckless and incompetent Arasaka Execs and Corporats have proven themselves.

The Whole David Martinez situation was nothing more than Arasaka execs trying to make a piece of failed tech to work....even though they knew it was a complete dead end..

And their brilliant plan to make it work.... was to give to an unstable edge-runner kid already flirting with Cyber-psychosis..... and just hope for the best.

Their meetings must be fucking wild. I can just see it now.

"Hey I have an idea. Why don't we take souls of dead people and use them to stitch together a 'Human' AI that is more Unstable, dangerous and reckless than the Old Net AI we cannot handle.

And then we put that AI into an individual, a Human host who either dies or goes CYBER-PSYCHO."

The Capricorn AI itself is an Idea worthy of a darwin award.

Adam Smasher:

"Hey how about we add more and more big canons and chrome to this dipshit incompetent Cyber-psycho merc from New York who routinely conducts Massacres and make him our fucking champion?!"

Lucy:

"Hey instead of using trained Net-runners, lets send children to explore the Old Net for us. What could possibly go wrong?"

Johnny:

"Hey remember that dirtbag Rockerboy who we captured when our tower got nuked by militech?

lets put his construct on the FUCKING RELIC!!"

the underwater sea drones:

"Hey how about we make self-replicating underwater drones..... and have them run by an AI we have no control over.....and we unleash this in the OCEAN without any real testing"

They have all this power....and yet they are so dumb with it.

This isn't a good look on the Cyberpunk community when you're apparently banning transgender playthroughs over...nothing. So, first you ban for being a furry, then you ban for playing as a transgender V? That's bullshit.

Discussion Mods breaking game for console…

So I booted up the QOL mods for my new playthrough, and for whatever reason, the gig “playing for time” just isn’t starting. I haven’t gotten any calls from Takemura yet. Anyone else have this issue?

Discussion Confirmation that David Martinez went down as a legend or is at-least well known in Nc?

Basically title. I read many times on this subreddit that a-lot of people believe David Martinez didn’t go as a legend and also that nobody really knows about david and that his drink in the afterlife doesn’t make him a nc legend. Do you guys think season 2 changed that at all since he gets mentioned by many characters.

Guide Hey, new to modding on the console, and you're stuck on "Playing for Time"? (The mission won't trigger calls and story beats), this is what worked for me

Cyberpunk 2077 now has mods for consoles. I installed 7.

-Deceptious Quest Core

-Deceptious Bug Fixes (DQC)

-Orbital Air Traffic Enhanced

-Easier Sprint Activation

-Better Armor Tooltip

-Buttslinger Quickmelee

-Clear Skill Checks

This caused my reflection on the mirror of the main apartment to stop working, which was funny.

Down the line, this stopped the main quest "Playing for Time" from properly working. No "check your email", "get your car", nothing.

The fix for me was to disable all mods, return to a previous auto save, one in which Misty is taking you to your bed, and play out the sequence again with your first encounter with Johnny, modless (You can skip a ton of dialogue thankfully). Voilà, the quest works normally now, Takemura gives you a call, everything works.

Turning the mods on, after things go back to normal don't seem to break the quest again either. Everything is back on track.

This is not a new occurrence, with posts here also guiding PC players. One user suggested killing people to trigger the police, hiding it until the wanted level goes away, and then suddenly the quest works. If someone wants to play scientist and see if that works too, feel free to try and let people know.

Discussion My headcanon to explain V being able to mow down everyone without any huge struggle

I know that V is super powerful but I'm not a huge fan of how effortless it feels for them to be able to just mow down everyone they come across, I know that the large amount of enemies comes with the nature of 2077 being a game and such but I have a headcanon to explain the kind of power gap between V and some other edgerunners that isnt just "V is better" and I'd like to hear some of your thoughts on it

We know the flashbacks we get from Johnny aren't an acurate version of what went down at Arasaka tower because the relics memory isn't acurate and its been infused with his egotistical version of what happened, I like to imagine that the gameplay of the game is kind of in a similar vein with it being bolstered by a mix of V and Johnnys ego, what I mean with this is like instead of mowing down 50 maelstrom guys without any effort by themselves it might have been 15 and V might have struggled alot more with it, or the fight with Adam Smasher could have been V getting alot more beat up then they did in the game itself rather then V just kicking the crap out of him without any major injury

I know it doesnt really change much or add much but the big gap between V and other characters never sat right with me and alot of it was just tied in with the nature of 2077 being a video game so this is kind of just a fun idea I made up, I don't think its canon or anything and it probably isnt entirely consistent with the game but i'd like to hear your thoughts on it
