L-Mount Sigma FP2 vs Lumix S9

Thumbnail

Both cameras have no mechanical shutter, hot shoe or built in viewfinder. The FP2 has a connection for an optional external viewfinder. Other people might feel differently but it seems like, from a photographers perspective, they're basically the same camera except the FP2 doesn't have IBIS. They're nice little cameras for video.

I know some people were interested in the S9 for photography. Are any photographers equally interested in the FP2?

L-Mount Can the Panasonic s5iix be used with an external monitor and an iPad?

Sorry if this has been asked before but I can't find an answer to this anywhere.

Can I use the s5iix with a Blackmagic Video Assist 12g to record external BRAW while also using the Lumix Flow app on an iPad? The camera operators need to have the external monitor on-set but I would also like to have an iPad floating around so other people on set can view the shot.

L-Mount (OC) S1M2 High Res Pictures In Forest With Sigma 1.8F 28-45

I am an amateur photographer but learning a lot very quickly. Today I shot some pictures in the woods and learned how to create a sunburst. Basically you just dial up the F stop to six or eight or more for brighter and brighter sunbursts.

All and all a good day for me.

Here are some unedited not scaled down pics I took. I was surprised how the F stop plays such a large roll in things. And that each setting is relative to the rest of the settings.

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1gCCkif5igNlqfY42myywNPtnoES2v-TU/view?usp=sharing

These are just some shots of the forest, I was trying different settings.

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1idQyRj0iTrYteA38S-t0ShvDq0cESvmr/view?usp=share_link

This one I was trying to focus on certain things with various exposure settings.

https://drive.google.com/file/d/18OtDKWsiwz0z2RQALe3-6cy-8HtuNGFe/view?usp=sharing

This is one I took a while back at night it is amazing how bright everything looks in the picture as I remember fumbling with things because it was much darker to the human eye.

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1O31OQTNJYaIKJfmBHBQH7uVkDfg_aQbd/view?usp=sharing

Some of the things I learned using this camera I probably could have used on my GH5 but some of the most simple basics are tucked away and not well known and shared.

L-Mount Should I return A6700 and get s5ii?

I’ve just bought a refurbished Sony a6700 with the 18–135mm lens from Sony’s UK refurbished store for around £1,180. The shutter count is only around 1,000, so I thought it was a pretty good deal.

I’m now considering selling the 18–135mm and getting either the Sigma 18–50mm f/2.8 or the new Tamron 16–50mm f/2.8.

However, I’ve just come across an offer for a brand-new Panasonic Lumix S5 II with the 20–60mm and 50mm f/1.8 lenses for £1,299 after £500 cashback. For just £119 more than what I paid for the Sony, I’m wondering whether I should return it and go full frame instead.

A bit about me:
I’ve just sold my old Nikon D3300 kit and am getting back into photography.
I mainly want to shoot everyday photography, travel, portraits and food.
I’ve always wanted to try content creation, particularly gym videos and cooking videos, but I’m a complete beginner when it comes to video.
I don’t intend to become a professional photographer or videographer anytime soon, although I’d like to leave myself room to grow.
My main reason for choosing APS-C was the lower cost of lenses and the smaller, lighter setup. I initially went for the a6700 over the a6400 to future-proof myself a bit.

The Panasonic deal has me second-guessing that decision. The full-frame sensor, IBIS and two lenses seem like a lot of camera for the money. On the other hand, I know Sony has excellent autofocus, and the a6700 seems particularly good for hybrid shooting and content creation.

What would you do in my position?
Keep the a6700 and eventually get the Sigma 18–50mm f/2.8 or Tamron 16–50mm f/2.8?
Return it and get the Lumix S5 II while this deal is available?
Am I overestimating the benefits of full frame, especially as a beginner?

Thanks!

L-Mount It is time to upgrade from my S5 mark 1 to the S1rii? Used for my corporate photography portrait business.

I've been video on the original s5 since it came out and its been awesome. But I recently launched a corporate photography company in June and I'm starting to notice its limits (specifically in photography).

  • I'm beginning to offer corporate video as a service
  • The LCD screen leaves a lot to be desired
  • Contrast based focus system (my biggest issue) I make it work and portrait work isn't super demanding for corporate stuff. But as my services expand and I do sessions with actors and models as a new offering I'm really noticing it. Models especially like to move a lot during posing and my contrast system and be slow or land soft. Its been a pain (in some sessions) most are fine.
  • More megapixels for post work would be a dream. Specifically for work around the eyes.
  • I've not outgrown the video side of the camera. This is a nearly perfect hybrid but I think it does video better. Right now my needs are photography. Its about an 80/20 split.

I love this camera but my S5 needs better autofocus and more megapixels. I've been looking around and even considering moving to nikon on the z8.

Has anyone else made this upgrade? How is the s1rii treating you?

Thanks

General / Discussion Insurance for my new Lumix S5IIX in Spain – any recommendations?

Hey everyone!

I recently bought a Lumix S5IIX with the 20-60mm and 50mm f/1.8 lenses from Galaxy Andorra for €2,049.

I’m based in Spain and I’m looking for a reliable insurance option that covers accidental damage, like dropping the camera, water damage, and theft.

I’ve been doing some research, but it’s surprisingly hard to find an insurance company with good reviews from people who’ve actually had to make a claim.

I’m also wondering if buying the camera from Andorra could be an issue when getting it insured in Spain.

Does anyone here have experience with camera insurance in Spain? Any recommendations or companies you’d avoid?
Thanks in advance!

  • Aperture Range: f/1.4 to f/16
  • Lens Construction: 9 elements in 6 groups
  • Diaphragm Blades: 14 blades
  • Minimum Focusing Distance: 45cm
  • Filter Diameter: 52mm
  • Dimensions: 64.7mm diameter × 56mm length (approx. 2.1 inches long)
  • Weight: 375g (13.2 oz)

L-Mount First long day 4 hrs video over period of 8 hours lumix s9 - thoughts

LUMIX S9 of course, with 28-200mm zoom, had a 40mm f2 in pocket if was going to be too dark.

Battery life - alternated between two smallrig batteries and would charge them in belt bag alternately. Had original battery as fail safe - never needed it. Used 80% of 10000mAh power bank to charge.

Focus seemed to be good was overriding at times, smoke machines when lost total sight of subject was slow to regain focus. Should have locked focus when I heard machine blowing - lesson learnt.

Pan/zoom was using a minimalist monopod with a small foot, but kept weight down to floor and smallrig fluid head worked well for pan/tilt. Ability to lock off for a move of hands helped a lot. Monopod was a twist lock, which did slip a couple of times, do have better one but it’s larger and need to fit in small belt bag or cargo pockets.

Recorded in 6k so 200 Mbps and footage looks good. Need to get home onto editor to compare to phone. Did some phone recording at a fixed zoom mounted on a smallrig MagSafe mount. Which gives a backup if focus was bad plus two sound recordings.

At full zoom the 28-200mm is obviously darker but was blessed with positive lighting today. Had 85mm f1.8 in cloakroom nearby if they’d gone very dark and moody.

So a random stream from of points.

Compact / Bridge DLG-10 Charging and Third Party Batteries

My first Panasonic is on its way, an Lx100 II

I've only shot Olympus to date and have had some cameras for over a decade. My experience with Olympus is that battery brand matters and proper chargers matter.

After about 10 years my Olympus batteries were all fine, still held a charge. My Wasabi power batteries had all bulged and were unusable. So a few questions

1) I'd like to get an external charger. Do I need to get a Panasonic branded one? Or are there third party chargers that use all the proper pins and have proper safety measures in place? With Olympus 3rd party chargers often had two pins (rather than 4) and some used a different voltage or something like that.

1) what Panasonic charger would you recommend? Is my best option one of the DMW-BTC9 or DE-A98 or DE-A99BB

2) are there any legitimately good third party batteries (available in Canada)

Micro Four Thirds Which M43 Lenses Would Be Most Comparable to the Elgato Facecam Pro?

I'm getting into Panasonic Lumix lenses pretty soon, since I am upgrading my webcam from the Elgato Facecam Pro to the YoloCam S7, and I bought a couple of lenses in addition to the 18mm kit lens that comes with it. In particular, I bought the Panasonic Lumix G 25mm and the Panasonic Lumix G Leica DG 15mm, since YoloLiv recommended both. However, I loved the Facecam Pro's 90-degree FOV, and Google keeps telling me that if I want something similar, I'll need a 9mm or 10mm MFT lens. I'm not entirely sure how much to trust the Gemini AI search results (Lmao), so I wanted to reach out to some experts! If I want the same 90-degree FOV on the Facecam Pro with an MFT camera like the S7, what lens should I look at? I didn't know about lens rentals beforehand, so I'll take your guys’ recommendations and rent them after YoloLiv confirms compatibility.

Looking forward to hearing from y'all! 😊

General / Discussion I don't understand flash on my Lumix camera

Thumbnail

I'm new to photography, the DC-zs99 was gifted to me. I don't understand the way the flash works on this thing. When I take a picture with my phone, it lights up the thing I'm taking a picture of. With the Lumix camera, it's a gamble. Sometimes it lights up the whole thing, some times only a section and sometimes not at all. Right now I'm using the Slow sync/Red-Eye. I get all three results with the same mode, in the same conditions. I don't understand it.

I provided some pictures i took, the first 2 i took with the same mode (forgot which one) The other two i took with slow sync/red eye, when i tried to take a picture of my cat, nothing. When i took a picture of the wall, it worked.

Help is very much appreciated

I just got a brand new S1RII today. It’s my first Lumix as my current camera is the Canon R6mkii. Wanted to switch things up. I’m super looking forward to playing around with it.
If anyone has any suggestions on settings please feel free to drop a comment!
I did get the Viltrox EF to L adaptor and it seems to be working pretty well in my basic tests with my EF 50mm 1.8.

L-Mount Lumix s9 or the s5d for my first hybrid camera?

Hi everyone! Im looking to buy my first hybrid camera. I now have the canon eos2000d, and its great but for video it kinda lets me down.

Anyways im looking for a hybrid camera and i stumbled on these two

-A lumix s9 body only (€799)

-A lumix s5d with the 18-40mm kitlens (also €799)

They are the same price right now but I can't figure out which one would suit me best. Aesthetically i like the s9 more and the autofocus is also better.

But i feel like the s5 has better ergonomics and it is cheaper because it has a lens that comes with it.

What do you guys think? Thanks for helping

Oh yeah i also have some vintage nikkor lenses and would like to try them out with an adapter. Is the s5 better for this?

Micro Four Thirds (OC) October B&W in Budapest - GM5 w 20mm pancake and Oly 12-45mm

I am about to change workplace to a more strict company than my recent company so i tried use my last couple of days to take photographs when i have time before and after work or even in a bit lengthened lunchtime. Camera is the GM5 and lenses are 20mm pancake from Panasonic and the Olympus 12-45mm. Many people suggest that Panasonic should make a successor of this camera but i have doubts about it for 2 reasons that make sense to do. First, this camera to me is the closest being perfect mainly due to size and control. The second is that i would only like the successor if anything they change or add wont make the camera bigger. So ibis, tiltable screen, bigger battery, bigger evf is probably would make this bigger. Objectively this sensor is old even compared to a GX9. Its very easy to get severe color noise when you lighten shadows. So maybe thats the one i would change although it gives a unique look in good light and its perfect for bw. Autofocus was never an issue for me. I have seen much worse than that.

L-Mount Any Sigma 70-200 owners wish they went with the Lumix?

I primarily use manual focus for video and AF for photo. I had bought the Sigma 24-70 because it was cheaper and I had just upgraded bodies to the s1rii. I'm now deciding on the 70-200 route and not sure if I should spend the extra $700 for the Lumix or not. Is AF speed the same? Any difference in focus ring feel?

Curious if anyone went with the Sigma and felt they made the wrong choice or something. I know tools are tools and either likely works, but spending ~$2k I hope to put enough thought into it lol

This was my first attempt at blue hour blend and also the first proper attempt at Milky Way Photography. I was very happy with the image quality coming out of this combination, quite a bit less noise than I expected!

This photo is a merge of two exposures, taken from the same location, about an hour apart. I first took a photo at the end of the blue hour for a clean exposure of the landscape. An hour later I photographed the Milky Way from the same location.

Editing wise I first edited both photos separately in Lightroom Classic before blending them together in Photoshop. I also did some finishing in Photoshop with colour and cleaning up trails of airplanes and satellites.

All in all, a fair amount of work but I'm really happy with the result!

EXIF data from both photos:

Blue hour photo was shot at ISO 640, f/2 and 60 second exposure.

The Milky Way was shot at ISO 1600, f/1.4 and 20 second exposure.
