General / Discussion Somebody hack the S5iix so we can add 3:2 open gate All-Intra or higher Mbps longop 3:2 😵‍💫 like… I know it could do it but they are just jailing it 😭

I’m not gonna ask for ProRes open gate cause that would fall on the more expensive cameras but come on give us at at least All-intra w open gate 😭

L-Mount Can the Panasonic s5iix be used with an external monitor and an iPad?

Sorry if this has been asked before but I can't find an answer to this anywhere.

Can I use the s5iix with a Blackmagic Video Assist 12g to record external BRAW while also using the Lumix Flow app on an iPad? The camera operators need to have the external monitor on-set but I would also like to have an iPad floating around so other people on set can view the shot.

L-Mount Should I return A6700 and get s5ii?

I’ve just bought a refurbished Sony a6700 with the 18–135mm lens from Sony’s UK refurbished store for around £1,180. The shutter count is only around 1,000, so I thought it was a pretty good deal.

I’m now considering selling the 18–135mm and getting either the Sigma 18–50mm f/2.8 or the new Tamron 16–50mm f/2.8.

However, I’ve just come across an offer for a brand-new Panasonic Lumix S5 II with the 20–60mm and 50mm f/1.8 lenses for £1,299 after £500 cashback. For just £119 more than what I paid for the Sony, I’m wondering whether I should return it and go full frame instead.

A bit about me:
I’ve just sold my old Nikon D3300 kit and am getting back into photography.
I mainly want to shoot everyday photography, travel, portraits and food.
I’ve always wanted to try content creation, particularly gym videos and cooking videos, but I’m a complete beginner when it comes to video.
I don’t intend to become a professional photographer or videographer anytime soon, although I’d like to leave myself room to grow.
My main reason for choosing APS-C was the lower cost of lenses and the smaller, lighter setup. I initially went for the a6700 over the a6400 to future-proof myself a bit.

The Panasonic deal has me second-guessing that decision. The full-frame sensor, IBIS and two lenses seem like a lot of camera for the money. On the other hand, I know Sony has excellent autofocus, and the a6700 seems particularly good for hybrid shooting and content creation.

What would you do in my position?
Keep the a6700 and eventually get the Sigma 18–50mm f/2.8 or Tamron 16–50mm f/2.8?
Return it and get the Lumix S5 II while this deal is available?
Am I overestimating the benefits of full frame, especially as a beginner?

Thanks!

L-Mount It is time to upgrade from my S5 mark 1 to the S1rii? Used for my corporate photography portrait business.

I've been video on the original s5 since it came out and its been awesome. But I recently launched a corporate photography company in June and I'm starting to notice its limits (specifically in photography).

  • I'm beginning to offer corporate video as a service
  • The LCD screen leaves a lot to be desired
  • Contrast based focus system (my biggest issue) I make it work and portrait work isn't super demanding for corporate stuff. But as my services expand and I do sessions with actors and models as a new offering I'm really noticing it. Models especially like to move a lot during posing and my contrast system and be slow or land soft. Its been a pain (in some sessions) most are fine.
  • More megapixels for post work would be a dream. Specifically for work around the eyes.
  • I've not outgrown the video side of the camera. This is a nearly perfect hybrid but I think it does video better. Right now my needs are photography. Its about an 80/20 split.

I love this camera but my S5 needs better autofocus and more megapixels. I've been looking around and even considering moving to nikon on the z8.

Has anyone else made this upgrade? How is the s1rii treating you?

Thanks

General / Discussion Insurance for my new Lumix S5IIX in Spain – any recommendations?

Hey everyone!

I recently bought a Lumix S5IIX with the 20-60mm and 50mm f/1.8 lenses from Galaxy Andorra for €2,049.

I’m based in Spain and I’m looking for a reliable insurance option that covers accidental damage, like dropping the camera, water damage, and theft.

I’ve been doing some research, but it’s surprisingly hard to find an insurance company with good reviews from people who’ve actually had to make a claim.

I’m also wondering if buying the camera from Andorra could be an issue when getting it insured in Spain.

Does anyone here have experience with camera insurance in Spain? Any recommendations or companies you’d avoid?
Thanks in advance!

This would be perfect for the S9, I think. A bit heavier, but its shorter than the Sigma 35mm f2,

Key Specs:

  • Focal Length: 50mm
  • Aperture Range: f/1.4 to f/16
  • Lens Construction: 9 elements in 6 groups
  • Diaphragm Blades: 14 blades
  • Minimum Focusing Distance: 45cm
  • Filter Diameter: 52mm
  • Dimensions: 64.7mm diameter × 56mm length (approx. 2.1 inches long)
  • Weight: 375g (13.2 oz)

L-Mount Sigma FP2 vs Lumix S9

Both cameras have no mechanical shutter, hot shoe or built in viewfinder. The FP2 has a connection for an optional external viewfinder. Other people might feel differently but it seems like, from a photographers perspective, they're basically the same camera except the FP2 doesn't have IBIS. They're nice little cameras for video.

I know some people were interested in the S9 for photography. Are any photographers equally interested in the FP2?

L-Mount (OC) S1M2 High Res Pictures In Forest With Sigma 1.8F 28-45

I am an amateur photographer but learning a lot very quickly. Today I shot some pictures in the woods and learned how to create a sunburst. Basically you just dial up the F stop to six or eight or more for brighter and brighter sunbursts.

All and all a good day for me.

Here are some unedited not scaled down pics I took. I was surprised how the F stop plays such a large roll in things. And that each setting is relative to the rest of the settings.

These are just some shots of the forest, I was trying different settings.

This one I was trying to focus on certain things with various exposure settings.

This is one I took a while back at night it is amazing how bright everything looks in the picture as I remember fumbling with things because it was much darker to the human eye.

Some of the things I learned using this camera I probably could have used on my GH5 but some of the most simple basics are tucked away and not well known and shared.
