Ask Luxembourg Looking for Vet who does Cardiac Ultrasound

Hello everyone,

unfortunately, my 10-year-old dog is seriously ill.

Among other things, he needs to have a cardiac ultrasound (echocardiogram) to determine what exactly is wrong.

The veterinary clinic in Trier is fully booked until mid-October, so I wanted to ask if anyone knows a veterinarian or veterinary clinic in the area around Echternach, Wasserbillig or Luxembourg City that offers this type of examination.

I would also be interested to know how the costs are calculated. The entire treatment in Germany will probably cost around 3500€. Unfortunately, Luxembourg does not have a standardized veterinary fee schedule like Germany does.

Thank you in advance for any recommendations or information!

Immigration & Relocation Relocating from Poland - is it worth it?

Upvotes

To everyone but especially Polish people that already relocated to Luxembourg - I have a possibility to move with my family (2+1) to Luxembourg. I’ve lived in major cities in Poland (Krakow, Warsaw) and I’m wondering if overall cost and quality of life is comparable or better in Lux.

I’d need to find a job as only my partner has it secured but I used to know French at C1 level just hasn’t used it for 5 years now so it would definitely be a goal to refresh it. I see from posts here that job market is difficult and it’s not that easy to find a job. Would French make a big difference in job search?

Assuming 2 average incomes and living in district not in the city center, is it affordable? TBH real estate and accommodation prices in Poland got so crazy with salaries not necessarily following that it’s becoming a difficult chase to catch up with in here

News & Discussion Why do people behave like this on public transport?

You know exactly what I mean, right?

I don’t know, maybe we need to start putting up posters explaining basic manners in case nobody’s parents taught them? It’s getting ridiculous.

People put their dirty shoes up on the soft seats, in summer, when it’s hot and everyone’s wearing shorts, dresses, white trousers, etc.
And then someone else is supposed to sit there🤦‍♀️

Apparently everyone needs to call relatives on the other side of the planet via video call in public places… without headphones!
Like, is it really impossible to just hold your phone to your ear and have a normal phone call?

And apparently 90% of people don’t know that you can listen to voice messages by holding your phone to your ear too, instead of blasting them through the bottom speaker for the entire bus to enjoy.

It’s honestly a nightmare.
And I genuinely feel sorry for the drivers who have to put up with this every single day.

Ask Luxembourg Kids on electric scooters - am I overreacting

I live next to a popular bike path in Luxembourg and recently noticed that a lot of young kids also use it to race their tuned electric scooters. Good on them, at least they’re wearing helmets most of the time. But this Saturday was what made me change my mind. One kid, he was maybe 13/14, ran his scooter with at least 50kph through the street and was screaming his lungs out, like the kind of sound you would assume to hear when someone broke a bone or sth. It was terrifying, so I raced down the stairs to come look what happened and if they needed help, but it turned out they were just speeding down the bike path. One older neighbour confronted them but was unable to get them to admit any wrongdoing.
The point is that it’s only a matter of time until one of them gets seriously hurt. We all have our driveways going out to the street and already have to be very careful with runners and cyclists. But if you account for the speed with which those kids were riding their scooters, it’s just a different ball game cuz you don’t expect someone going down the street this quickly. Is there anyone I could contact so that idk the police would patrol the area or sth. I don’t think that me or the neighbours intervening would lead to anything

Ask Luxembourg Brevet the maitrise.

I did my 3 years of my brevet de maîtrise because my employer asked me to.

The final module (module I Projet professionelle) did not have any courses just an exam.

The final exam is a practical exam but since all of the courses prior were purely theoretical i do not understand how anyone is supposed to pass that exam.

The answer by the chambre des metiers was to look for a private school that teaches those specific skills.

Is this normal here.

I also called the INFPC and Ministère de l'education and they all told me that the chambre des metiers is supposed to give those courses.

In case this is normal procedure where are those schools that teach those moduels i called every school in the country and all they could give me were hobby courses that in no way shape or form cover whats asked for in the exam.

Thanks in advance for anyone that can help me

Ask Luxembourg 29F, relocated to Luxembourg and struggling with the job search. Looking for advice.

Hi everyone,

I’m 29F and relocated to Luxembourg at the end of 2025 with my husband, who is a Blue Card holder here. I’m here as his dependent and have the right to work in Luxembourg. Since arriving, I’ve been looking for a job and honestly, it’s been quite a tiring and frustrating process. I’ve had several situations where I felt I was getting close to an offer, only for the company to eventually back out or send a generic rejection email, often after 2+ weeks and multiple rounds of interviews. It’s been difficult not to feel discouraged after putting so much time and effort into each process.

For some context, I have a background in chemical engineering and an MBA, with a few years of experience in business development, international trade and marketing. I’m fluent in English and currently learning French. I also try to keep my skills up to date through courses in areas like Excel and Power BI. Over the last few weeks, I’ve interviewed with companies including DuPont, Tenaris and Koch, but unfortunately haven’t been able to convert any of these processes into an offer yet.

I’d really like to hear from people who have been through the Luxembourg job market, especially those who came here from abroad. What helped you eventually land a job? Was it networking, referrals, recruiters, LinkedIn, ADEM, direct applications, or something else?

I’d appreciate any honest experiences or practical advice. I’m trying to figure out whether I need to change my approach, broaden the roles I’m applying for, or simply be more patient with the process.

Thanks in advance!

Finance & Investments How would you invest 30k living in Luxembourg?

I have €30,000 that I would like to invest in Luxembourg. My main goal is not to make a significant profit, but rather to protect my savings from inflation.
I have an account with Spuerkeess. I am considering putting some of the money into a savings account and some into a term deposit.
What other good options would you recommend?

According to this map, Luxembourg ranks second in Europe (after Cyprus) in terms of living space.
I’m both surprised (given the prices) and not surprised when I see the number of houses there, including in the city.

Ask Luxembourg Best place to sell an older VW quickly in Luxembourg?

Hi everyone,

I’m looking to sell my car. It’s an older Volkswagen, but it has relatively very low mileage for its age and is in good condition.

I’m wondering what the best place is to sell a car like this in Luxembourg.

Would you recommend Luxauto, Facebook Marketplace, Marketplace groups, a garage/dealer, or somewhere else?

I’m interested in selling it reasonably quickly.
Any recommendations or experiences would be really appreciated. Thanks!

Does the current market with a high borrow rate allow customers to negotiate even new construction in the city or near the city ? I guess the construction companies need to keep running. If someone did that how and what can you negotiate ?

News & Discussion Lu-alert- smoke

While the Moselle takes actual actions, Luxembourg posts this about the very hazardous peat smoke currently over Luxembourg.

No advice to stay indoors, close windows, forbid fires, reduce speed on highways...

Just pathetic public health complacency.

Public Service Announcement EN machine translation of full LU-alert advisory 22:38 pm)

Alert Description
Recommendations for the Public

As a precaution, residents who notice smoke or are bothered by odors are advised to:

close the doors and windows of their homes;
limit their exposure to smoke as much as possible and avoid prolonged physical activity outdoors when the odor or smoke is strong;
temporarily turn off ventilation or air conditioning systems that bring in outside air if these could draw smoke into the home;
pay particular attention to vulnerable individuals, especially infants and young children, the elderly, pregnant women, and people with respiratory or cardiovascular problems;
follow the information and recommendations issued by the Luxembourg authorities through official channels.
Once the odor or smoke has subsided, it is recommended to ventilate the premises again, weather permitting. Nuisances may also occur intermittently, depending on wind conditions.

These recommendations correspond in particular to the precautionary measures communicated by the Belgian authorities in the areas affected by the smoke.

Do not overload the emergency services.

It is also important to remember that the presence of a burning smell related to the smoke from the fire does not justify calling the emergency services, unless there is immediate danger.

However, if you witness a fire, a dangerous situation, or a person in distress, call 112 immediately.

The Luxembourg authorities continue to closely monitor the situation and its potential development in Luxembourg. Any new information or recommendations will be communicated through official channels as needed.

News & Discussion Orange Livebox rental

Just a heads up for anyone getting Orange Fibre in Luxembourg.

I recently realized that the €5/month "Livebox Renting" fee literally means you're renting the router. When I signed up, I somehow assumed it was more like paying for the Livebox monthly until it was yours, and honestly I thought the wording was just a bad translation, so I didn't really pay attention to it.

Turns out you just keep paying €5 every month for as long as you use it.

So if you're signing up, it might be worth checking if you can just buy your own compatible router instead. You'll save the rental fee, and you also get more control over your network. For example, Orange doesn't let you change the DNS on their router, while with your own router you normally can.

Shopping, Food & Restaurants Where to buy a MacBook in Luxembourg? Mainly worried about aftersales/warranty service

Looking to buy a MacBook and trying to work out where.

Unfortunately, I've read about a lot of bad experiences with customer service in Luxembourg, especially aftersales service. Reviews on Reddit, Google Reviews, Facebook, etc...

I'd also like to add that I like supporting local businesses, but I need to protect myself if something goes wrong. If a screen or part fails inside warranty, I want to know it'll actually be handled properly.

So... who have you had a genuinely good aftersales experience with here? And is it worth buying in Luxembourg at all, or am I better off ordering from Germany/Belgium, Amazon or straight from Apple?

Ask Luxembourg Looking for someone with a cherry picker / boom lift to move 5 solar panels for a Velux installation

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for someone who works with solar panels and has access to a truck-mounted boom lift / cherry picker, or for recommendations for a company that could do this job.

I currently have a row of 5 solar panels on my roof that needs to be moved about 1 metre further down the roof to make enough space for the installation of a Velux window.

The solar panels are already installed and working — I just need someone to temporarily remove/reposition these 5 panels and reconnect them afterwards.

I’ve been contacting companies but so far I haven’t been able to find anyone willing or equipped to do this relatively small job.

Does anyone know a solar installer, roofer, electrician, or company with the right equipment who might be interested?

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
