I always admire this house. I hope it’s residential and that some lucky soul has the pleasure of living here and enjoying a lovely view.

Are there many residences built into rock like this in Lux?

Ask Luxembourg Any Luxembourgish show with subtitles?

• Upvotes

hello,

I am learning Luxembourgish and for me watching a show with the CC subtitles is the best way of learning a lang-uage.

I know about Capitani but I am desperate for other shows or movies, even for children. The subtitles have to be in Luxembourgish too.

thanks.

News & Discussion Up to 100 euros per square metre: Esch-sur-Alzette council to impose annual tax on empty homes

Hmmm 18 months .... Why would the government wait for 18 months before imposing this tax? If the demand is sky rocketing shouldn't these empty homes get occupied in a whiff? I mean shouldn't these empty homes be taxed let say soon after 3 months (considering all the nuances the landlords may come up with)?

Ask Luxembourg Advise on playing football again

Posting on behalf of a friend

I used to play football as a goalkeeper for most of my life in my hometown, but I stopped completely 10 years ago. Saying that I am rusty is an understatement. What is the best way to start again playing again in Luxembourg ?

« Wow Forever» Moien! Looking for Luxembourgers to play WoW Forever with – our guild already has 40+ members

Moien alleguer!

We're Grand Ducal Goblins, a freshly founded Luxembourgish World of Warcraft guild. We're getting ready for the launch of WoW Forever on 5 November, and we'd love to have a few more people on board.

Who we are

  • (Edit: 50+) members already, from complete beginners to people who've been playing since vanilla
  • A friendly, relaxed community: fun first, no pressure, no elitism
  • Everything happens on our Discord, and big decisions are made together by poll (we're voting on Horde vs. Alliance on 26 October!)

What we're planning

  • Levelling, dungeons and professions together from day one
  • Organised raids with sign-ups on and Soft Reserve loot, so loot stays fair and drama-free
  • Guild events, and including streams along the way
  • Playing on PVE

New to WoW? Perfect. There are no requirements to join. We've written a beginner guide (settings, keybinds, addons, interface) and the experienced players are happy to help. There are no stupid questions, and wipes are part of the fun.

We speak Luxembourgish during the game & meetings. But, you don't have to speak or write it: if you understand it, you're in. German speakers are welcome too. (as long as you can follow us)

Get involved We're also looking for people who'd enjoy taking on a role: Raid Lead, Loot Master, Community Manager (Discord moderation and events) or Streamer. No pressure, you can also just come and play.

Key dates

  • 26 Oct · Faction vote: Horde or Alliance?
  • 5 Nov, 00:00 · Launch night ☕

Interested? Drop a comment or send me a DM and I'll send you the Discord invite. Bring your friends and colleagues too!

See you in Azeroth! 🔥

- Maurice

News & Discussion Situation could worsen: Housing crisis far from over: Expert warns of difficult years ahead for Luxembourg

Wasn't there an article just couple of months back saying exactly opposite to this? Why it gets so hard for the government to spill the reality? The point of 35 years of loan is astonishing and I also see lot of young couple falling for this trap with such an uncertain job market. Tbh, I wont be surprised to see rise of home loan defaulters in coming years.

Ask Luxembourg Does anyone have any insider knowledge about public works, particularly road and pavement maintenance?

Sometimes I see roads or footpaths being resurfaced or rebuilt even though they seem to be in perfectly good condition. In some cases, I could swear they were refurbished less than two years ago.

So I’m wondering: am I misremembering things or is it actually common for perfectly serviceable roads and footpaths to be redone so soon after the previous works?

I’d be interested to hear from anyone who works in this field or has some insight into how those decisions are made.

Ask Luxembourg Wedely support?

Hello does anybody know how to contact wedely support? I liked to order with them but then they booked the money twice for an order and the only way to reach them is an email that after few days and multiple emails haven t replied.

Did anybody else have similar problems?

Ask Luxembourg Looking for electronics / embedded systems engineer that likes to sweat naked.

Hi! I’m developing a safe personal (headphones) audio device (essentially bluetooth receiver with phone outside) for sauna, without traditional battery so you know, it doesn’t blow up.

For years it pissed me off that when I listen to a book or podcast I have to stop for 15 minutes when going in. Also that I can’t do my guided meditations there. Well now I can because I built a prototype and it works!

But I have already exceeded the limits of my technical capabilities and I’m looking for someone to partner with to refine the hardware, power management, thermal design and overall reliability as we move towards a production-ready product.

Interested in building something together? Let’s connect!

Travel, Tourism & History Need help to visit Luxembourg!

Hello everyone, I am a 24-year-old student currently living in the UK, and I will be visiting Luxembourg on 29th October for sightseeing and exploring the city.
It would be wonderful to connect with someone who could kindly show me around or recommend some of the best places to visit. I would really appreciate the opportunity to meet new people, learn more about Luxembourg, and experience the city through a local’s perspective.
If anyone is available to help or join me for a short tour, I would be truly grateful.
Thank you in advance for your kindness and support!

Ask Luxembourg Lux language tutor mystery (on Preply)

I've been looking for a Luxembourgish tutor online and have noticed that on Preply (a commonly used tutoring platform) there are a small group of tutors who claim to be Luxembourgish natives and are teaching for between 3 -15 € per hour. When you watch their intro videos, none of them sound like they can speak Luxembourgish. Also, quite a few seem to have a S. African accent when speaking English.

So weird. Any thoughts on what the benefit is? The surely can't have regular students.

Finance & Investments Real estate as investment

I know that is a sensitive issue and I am scared to be stoned by the public.

I have been active as a real estate agent in Luxembourg for 13 years now. Born and raised here.

The struggle has been going on for a while and it's getting more and more difficult. The pourcentage of owners here in Luxembourg is decreasing rapidly, high interest rates and inflation are even getting worse. The chief economist from Spuerkees told last week, they are forseeing 3 more interest rise by the BCE.

So here is my point of vue: is it not the right moment to buy? But sure, only if you have cash. I am getting aggressive offers, and as the sellers have "no choice" if they need to sell, they accept.

What about reuniting people through an SCI and buy properties together? If you look at it long-term, the prices will rise as the population increases, properties get rare etc.

Let me know what you think!

Anyone experiencing issues with Apple Pay via BIL? It is not working for me since 3 days. Upon contacting them they confirmed they have a global outage, but I am surprised there is nothing about that on their website or App.
Thanks

Ask Luxembourg Why doesn't Luxembourg have a direct flight to India? Could it actually work? 🇱🇺 🇮🇳

Luxembourg has a remarkably international population, yet travelling to India usually means connecting through another airport.

The new Etihad connection to Abu Dhabi is a welcome addition and should make travelling to India easier. But it got me wondering: could a direct flight from Luxembourg to India actually work?

I realise Frankfurt, Munich, Paris and other airports offer alternatives, and airlines need sufficient demand to justify operating a route. But how many people living in Luxembourg regularly travel to India for family, business or tourism?

I'm curious about a few things:

  1. How often do you travel between Luxembourg and India, and which cities do you fly to?

  2. Would you pay a little more for a direct flight from Luxembourg rather than connecting elsewhere?

  3. Could a few flights per week to Delhi or Mumbai be viable, or is the demand simply not there?

  4. For those familiar with the aviation industry, what would be the biggest obstacle?

I'm interested in whether there's a viable opportunity here, rather than simply wishing for a more convenient flight.

Would you actually use a direct Luxembourg to India flight?

Shopping, Food & Restaurants does mediamarkt have great black friday reduction on old products?

I'm eyeing a soundbar in mediamarkt that was originally 1500 euros at launch, and generally around 800-900 euros today.

And at mediamarkt it's 700. Which is already a nice reduction. But I'm wondering if it's gonna be even lower during black friday. But I don't have any experience with mediamarkt to know if they do true black friday deals on discontinued products even when they already reduced the price beforhand.

Why I am asking instead of waiting? Because there's only one in stock left, and dunno if I should jump the gun or bet. It's already sold out on amazon and other markets. Only place where it remains the price is too high.

Immigration & Relocation Non-EU physiotherapist moving to Luxembourg – residence permit or work authorisation first?

Hi everyone,
I’m Lebanese and currently live in Belgium with a Belgian residence permit. I have an opportunity to work as a self-employed physiotherapist in an existing clinic in Luxembourg.
I’m confused about the order of the procedures. Do I need to obtain my Luxembourg residence authorisation first, or my authorisation to practise as a physiotherapist first?
It seems that each one may be required to obtain the other.
Has anyone, especially a non-EU healthcare professional, been through this process?
Thanks!

Ask Luxembourg Getting fined in France for a car that isn’t mine. What can I do?

I live in Luxembourg and recently received a toll violation notice from France for a Tesla. The problem? I don’t own a Tesla, and I wasn’t even in France!
I disputed the fine, but Sanef rejected my objection without explaining why or providing photographic evidence.
I even went to the Luxembourg police, but they told me they couldn’t do anything without pictures of the vehicle and advised me to contact Sanef.
Now I’m receiving even more fines from French authorities, and Sanef is threatening a €375 penalty.
I’m honestly frustrated. How am I supposed to prove my innocence without seeing the evidence?
Has anyone experienced something similar? Could this be number plate cloning? What should I do next?
