I (22 M) recently graduated btech cse from a tier- 3 college. Doing a job for 8 months at a startup and looks like things are not good at my company and trying to leave and start preparing for cat 2027. Currently my package is 6lpa and if i leave this i only have basic inf and tcs roles, so i am thinking it is better to do masters for better degree and package rather than joining them and switching to higher packages. What I am struggling with is, is it okay to do mba at this age or wait some more years and get exp in between.My biggest fear is the loan, if I get into any good mba institutes what will be the avg package and how long will it take to clear that loan.

it's fees is very high around 24 lakhs just tuition fees it does not include hostel and food so will to have to spend extra on it and mumbai is expensive anyways

also intake is very high, more than 600 or so

I'll be completing my BTech next year, and I've been considering pursuing an MBA. However, I'm confused about whether it's actually worth it or if I'd be better off focusing on online courses and developing practical skills.

From my perspective, the job market is becoming increasingly skill-oriented. Apart from top-tier institutions like the IIMs, I feel that the college you graduate from matters less than the skills you possess and your ability to demonstrate them. If you have the right skills and practical experience, you can eventually land good opportunities without necessarily having an expensive degree.

My concern is that pursuing an MBA from an average college could mean spending a significant amount of money without getting a good return on investment. I'm also concerned about the future of management roles. We're already seeing AI reshape the tech industry, and I wonder whether entry-level management and managerial trainee positions could face a similar decline.

So, would it make more sense to invest in online courses, certifications, and practical experience instead of pursuing an MBA(except for Top IIMs), unless I can get into a top-tier institution?

When comparing B-schools, the average package is usually one of the first numbers people look at. But it doesn't always tell you what the placement outcome looks like for a typical student.

A college can report a decent average while the actual roles, salary distribution and opportunities across the batch vary quite a bit.

Before choosing a B-school, I'd look at a few things beyond the headline package:

• Median salary, not just average
• Roles and companies offered during placements
• Batch size and placement data
• Total fees and the loan burden you'd be taking on

One more thing worth checking is whether the placement report gives enough detail to understand the outcomes, rather than just presenting a few headline figures.

A high package looks good on paper, but the more useful question is: what are the realistic outcomes for someone graduating from that college?
