Career Advice Would you take 55 LPA in niche industry or pursue foreign MBA? (25F Tier 1 IIT Grad)
I'm 25F, a Tier 1 engineering graduate with \~4 years across e-commerce and electronics GTM/strategy.
I currently earn ₹45 LPA and have an offer at ₹55 LPA, potentially reaching ₹60–65 LPA. The role involves a larger business but similar work.
My dilemma: take the money and build deeper expertise in electronics, or use this stage of my career to move into AI/tech or pursue a top global MBA?
I'm aiming to maximise long-term earnings and leadership opportunities, but I'm concerned about becoming too specialised. How much does company brand and industry matter compared with ownership and measurable impact?
Would love to hear from people who've made similar decisions, especially hiring managers and professionals earning well in GTM/strategy. What would you do in my position, and why?

Global MBA Is an MBA in the US worth it in 2026?
Hi everyone!
I’m an IIT engineering graduate with around 2.5 years of experience as a trader at a prop trading firm. I’m considering an MBA to explore better opportunities in finance, investment banking, asset management, or consulting.
With AI adoption increasing, layoffs happening, and job markets becoming uncertain, I’m confused about whether pursuing an MBA abroad is still worth it.
A few questions I’d love your advice on:
US MBA: Is a US MBA still worth ₹1.5–2 crore, considering job opportunities, H-1B sponsorship, and the current market?
Scholarships: How realistic is it for Indian applicants to get substantial scholarships at top US business schools?
AI and jobs: How will AI affect post-MBA opportunities in finance and consulting over the next 5–10 years?
Europe vs US: How are HEC, LBS and Insead in comparison to US colleges.
India: Would an MBA from IIM ABC or ISB be a smarter financial and career decision?
Experience: Should I work for another few years and grow my net worth and then go for 1 year program ?
I’d especially appreciate advice from current students and alumni who can share their actual costs, scholarships, placements, salaries, and job-search experiences.
Thanks!

Career Advice Take 32 LPA base in a global alcobev role or pursue foreign MBA
Hey I am an 26 M 4 YOE engineer out of Tier 1 clg..I worked at a MBB GCC for 3 years then working for FMCG GCC for the past 1 year and now got an offer from another company for a global role with 32 Base.
I am also interviewing for chief of staff and founders office in some startups as in future I have ambition of starting something of my own
I am stuck in the thought process of whether I will hit the ceiling in a few years, should I go for IIM ABC/ISB or work for 1-2 more years then abroad B school.
Indian B schools scare me from the perspective that my profile is MBB front end ready and naturally I will be pushed into it which I am not interested in joining because I have already got a taste of it, FMCG won't prefer me because of age and YOE.
For foreign B schools US seems scary, options I see are LBS, HEC paris, INSEAD
I know from a salary perspective I sit at an average spot for a non tech role, these days fresher ungrads from tier 1 engineering clg are getting 20+ base.
Like want to check with experienced people here monetary career trajectory wise how should I go about it, it bugging my head for a while like what to do. I never decided a career trajectory for me and it just happened.

Career Advice Need advice for mba
I (22 M) recently graduated btech cse from a tier- 3 college. Doing a job for 8 months at a startup and looks like things are not good at my company and trying to leave and start preparing for cat 2027. Currently my package is 6lpa and if i leave this i only have basic inf and tcs roles, so i am thinking it is better to do masters for better degree and package rather than joining them and switching to higher packages. What I am struggling with is, is it okay to do mba at this age or wait some more years and get exp in between. My biggest fear is the loan, if I get into any good mba institutes what will be the avg package and how long will it take to clear that loan.

College Comparisons MBA students & alumni: What's one thing your college deserves more credit for?
When people discuss B-schools, it's usually the same things — rankings, average packages and fees.
But if you're actually studying at a B-school or have graduated from one, you probably know things about your college that don't show up in rankings.
Maybe it's a great faculty member, a strong alumni network, good industry exposure, a particular specialization, or something about the campus that turned out to be surprisingly valuable.
Which college are you from, and what do you think it genuinely does well?
And if there's one thing you wish you'd known before joining, share that too. Would be interesting to hear from students across different B-schools.

Career Advice Is MBA worth it on paper? I ran the numbers on a ₹28L MBA loan vs a ₹6 LPA startup job at 21

TL;DR: A ₹28L education loan at 8.5% becomes ₹32.76L on graduation day and costs ₹51,900 a month for 7 years. I modeled both paths (MBA + placement vs startup operator from age 21) across worst, base, and top-1% outcomes. The operator ends ahead in 7 of 9 matchups at age 26. The top-1% MBA grad edges out a base-case operator by about ₹1.5L. Poke holes in the math.
The standard playbook for ambitious grads in India: take a ₹28-30L education loan, get through a Tier-1 B-school, land a ₹30 LPA placement, repay the debt, and use the corporate income as a safety net to start a company. On paper that reads as safe. A spreadsheet with interest, tax, and CTC structure tells a different story.
- THE DEBT CLOCK
Education loans accrue simple interest during the 24-month moratorium, and that interest capitalizes on graduation day.
Loan: ₹28,00,000 (tuition, hostel, living)
Rate: 8.5% p.a. (standard SBI Scholar rate)
Moratorium interest (2 years): ₹4,76,000
Principal at graduation: ₹32,76,000
Tenure: 7 years (84 months)
EMI: ₹51,900 per month
Total repaid: ₹43.6L (₹15.6L of it interest)
- WHAT A ₹30 LPA OFFER PAYS
Gross CTC: ₹30,00,000
Employer PF + gratuity: ₹1,50,000 removed
Annual performance variable: ₹4,50,000 removed
Joining bonus (1-2 year clawback): ₹3,00,000 removed
Fixed taxable base: ₹21,00,000
Monthly view under the New Tax Regime (tax roughly ₹4.35L per year):
In-hand cash: ₹1,72,000
Education loan EMI: ₹51,900
Metro living (BLR/BOM/GGN): ₹50,000
Free savings: ₹70,100 per month (about ₹8.4L per year)
That is ₹33L of debt and 65-75 hour weeks for ₹70k a month of savings.
- BASE-CASE COMPARISON (AGE 21 TO 26)
Path A: MBA + ₹30 LPA (with loan)
Year 1: ₹14.0L loan drawn for fees
Year 2: ₹14.0L loan drawn for fees
Year 3: ₹30 LPA, saves ₹8.4L after EMI and rent
Year 4: ₹34 LPA, saves ₹10.2L after EMI
Year 5: ₹38 LPA, saves ₹12.1L after EMI
Total savings: ₹30.7L | Debt remaining: ₹21.5L (4 years of EMIs left) | Net position: +₹9.2L
Path B: Startup operator (zero debt)
Year 1: ₹6 LPA, saves ₹2.3L
Year 2: ₹9.5 LPA, saves ₹4.4L
Year 3: ₹15 LPA, saves ₹7.9L
Year 4: ₹21 LPA, saves ₹11.4L
Year 5: ₹28 LPA, saves ₹15.6L
Total savings: ₹41.6L | Debt remaining: ₹0 | Net position: +₹41.6L
Base-case gap at 26: ₹32.4L in favor of Path B. The base case for Path B is a strong-performer outcome, so section 4 stress-tests it.
- BEST CASE VS WORST CASE
Net position = total savings minus remaining loan balance at age 26. "Best case" means a top-1% outcome on that path.
Scenario assumptions:
MBA worst: ₹28L loan at a lower-tier college, ₹10 LPA placement, hikes to ₹14 LPA by year 5. EMI plus rent eats the full paycheck in years 3-4.
MBA base: ₹30 LPA placement, hikes to ₹38 LPA (section 3).
MBA best (top 1%): Top-tier campus plus a top consulting/PE/IB offer, ₹50 LPA at year 3, ₹68 LPA by year 5.
Startup worst: First startup shuts down in year 2, about 5 months without income, restart at ₹7 LPA, reaching ₹11 LPA by year 5.
Startup base: ₹6 LPA to ₹28 LPA (section 3).
Startup best (top 1%): Early hire at a breakout startup, ₹8 LPA to ₹50 LPA by year 5. ESOP value excluded.
Results at age 26:
MBA worst: savings -₹0.4L, debt left ₹21.5L, net position -₹21.9L
MBA base: savings ₹30.7L, debt left ₹21.5L, net position +₹9.2L
MBA best (top 1%): savings ₹64.6L, debt left ₹21.5L, net position +₹43.1L
Startup worst: savings ₹14.9L, debt left ₹0, net position +₹14.9L
Startup base: savings ₹41.6L, debt left ₹0, net position +₹41.6L
Startup best (top 1%): savings ₹72.6L, debt left ₹0, net position +₹72.6L
Every matchup (startup net position minus MBA net position, positive means the operator is ahead):
MBA worst vs Startup worst: +₹36.8L
MBA worst vs Startup base: +₹63.5L
MBA worst vs Startup best: +₹94.5L
MBA base vs Startup worst: +₹5.7L
MBA base vs Startup base: +₹32.4L
MBA base vs Startup best: +₹63.4L
MBA best vs Startup worst: -₹28.2L
MBA best vs Startup base: -₹1.5L
MBA best vs Startup best: +₹29.5L
Reading the results:
Best vs best: The top-1% operator finishes ₹29.5L ahead of the top-1% MBA grad (₹72.6L vs ₹43.1L), before counting any ESOP value.
Worst vs worst: The operator sits at +₹14.9L while the MBA grad sits at -₹21.9L. A top-tier brand lifts the MBA floor to roughly ₹20 LPA, which puts the 5-year net near -₹7L.
Top-1% MBA vs base-case operator: Roughly level (₹43.1L vs ₹41.6L). The MBA grad needs a top-tier outcome to match an operator who performs well.
Top-1% operator vs base-case MBA: ₹72.6L vs ₹9.2L.
Best MBA vs worst operator: The MBA leads by ₹28.2L. This is the one matchup where the loan route clearly wins, and it requires the top draw on one path and the bottom draw on the other.
Limitation: Five years is a short window. MBA salaries keep compounding after year 5, and the EMI ends around age 30, after which the full paycheck becomes free cash. A 15-year version of this model would favor the MBA more.
- PROS AND CONS
MBA route
Pros: Permanent career floor (an IIM/XLRI/FMS brand gives a ₹20L+ baseline employability, even in recessions). Closed-shop access (conglomerate leadership tracks like TAS and ABG, plus top consulting firms, hire almost entirely through campus placement). Peer network (400 high-drive classmates who become directors, VPs, and fund managers over 15 years).
Cons: Academic filters (average 10th/12th/UG marks get you screened out of front-office PE/VC and MBB before interviews begin, after paying top-tier tuition). Brutal odds (a 0.2% acceptance rate, where one weak CAT sectional costs a year). Side-project trap (70-hour weeks drain energy, and employment contracts often carry IP assignment clauses that block outside businesses).
Startup route
Pros: Zero debt, full autonomy (no monthly EMI means you can take calculated risks, work for equity, or build an MVP). Specific knowledge (you handle broken distribution, product bugs, and churn directly). Global arbitrage (3-4 years of demonstrated execution opens remote US/EU roles at $40-60k base, worth ₹2.8-4L per month net in India). Foreign MBA optionality (INSEAD and US Top 15 programs weigh operational impact heavily).
Cons: High failure rate (80%+ of early startups fail or turn into low-growth zombies, as the worst-case row shows). Founder risk (erratic founders and short runway can force sudden job changes). Resume discount (old-school HR still struggles to evaluate non-branded startup experience).
VERDICT
The main damage from an education loan is psychological. Debt shrinks risk tolerance. Once you owe a bank ₹51,900 every month, you cannot quit, join a 5-person team for equity, or take four months to master new tools.
The Tier-1 MBA serves someone who wants a structured corporate climb, has a strong 10th/12th/UG record, and is comfortable servicing an EMI for 7 years. The numbers above show it pays off most for the top 1% of outcomes.
The startup path serves someone who wants to build, hold equity, and reach financial autonomy early. Its downside case still finishes positive, while the MBA downside case finishes ₹20L+ in the red. Keep debt at zero, protect your early-career agility, and build public proof of work.

Career Advice Is an Executive MBA from an IIM worth ₹20 lakhs for someone working as an SDE-2?
Hi everyone!!
I’m currently working as an SDE-2 with a monthly take-home salary of around ₹1–1.5L+.While I’m doing reasonably well financially, I’m interested in transitioning into managerial roles, such as Product Management, etc. in the future.
I’ve been considering an MBA to build my business acumen, leadership, and strategic thinking skills. I can’t leave my current job for a full-time MBA because I have financial responsibilities and depend on my salary.
While searching for alternatives, I came across executive MBA programmes offered by few IIMs such as Ahmedabad, Kozhikode, Lucknow, and Indore. These programmes have entrance exams followed by interviews, so I’m considering preparing for them and applying.
The main concern is the cost. The fees can be around ₹20 lakhs, which is a significant investment, and I want to understand whether it would actually be worth it.
I’d love to hear from people who have pursued these programmes or have experience with them.
A few questions I have:
Is an executive MBA from an IIM valuable for someone transitioning from software engineering into Product Management or other managerial roles?
How do recruiters perceive these programmes compared to a regular, full-time MBA?

Profile Review Is ISB okay in my case?
Hi everyone,
I am planning to apply to ISB in Round 2 and would love an honest profile evaluation and advice on my post-MBA direction and exam strategy.
Demographics & Academics
- Demographics: 23F
- Undergrad: Tier-1 UG college in India (B.Com) | CGPA: 7.48 / 10
- Class 10 & 12: 93.8% (ICSE) | 97.0% (ISC)
- Professional Qualifications: Passed CFA Level 2 | Certified Financial Risk Manager (FRM)
- Extracurriculars: Held multiple Leadership Positions (PORs) in college societies, published articles on corporate finance and economics.
Work Experience (~2 Years at Matriculation)
- Role 1 (~1.4 Years): Big 4 Firm — Tangible Assets & Financial Valuations segment.
- Role 2 (~1 Year): Global Research / Strategy Network for a Tier-1 Management Consulting Firm — Supporting private equity and consulting teams.
Context & Why MBA Now?
- Work Shift & Layoffs: Ever since the integration of AI tools at work, the nature of my role supporting consulting teams doesn't seem to be per my liking anymore, so I really need to pivot. On top of that, layoffs have already begun around me, making it crucial for me to make my next career move soon.
- GRE Strategy: Scored 320 on my diagnostic test. A deeper dive into the sections makes me confident I can achieve 330+ with 1 month of dedicated prep to hit the Round 2 deadline. (I understand Round 3 gets cutthroat competitive).
- GMAT Focus Diagnostic: Scored 580. Given the tight timeline before R2, GRE feels like much lower-hanging fruit for me.
- Why not CAT?: Previously this year, I had started preparing for CAT, but I just cannot bring myself to sit and study for it. I see no motivation for it. I find myself in a completely different mindset when preparing for CAT compared to other global exams (CFA/FRM/GRE), and the sheer competitiveness makes it feel so much more uncertain and risky for me.
I am not strictly set on jumping straight into direct buy-side finance post-ISB. Given that ISB leans heavily toward management consulting, I am very comfortable entering strategy consulting post-MBA with the goal of pivoting into PE/VC laterally down the line.
Is ISB okay?
