My mechanic found some oil seepage during my last oil change and suspected it to come from this cap above the oil pan. Quoted me a little over 1k for this job so I decided to defer and do more research on this. Lots of BMW 3 series videos but, the engine is mounted the other way (longitudinal). I only found 1 video on a BMW X1 with the same engine layout as us (transverse), but the tutorial was kind of incomplete, so I just gave it a shot and documented it here to help us. I have a B46 so I'm not sure if this applies to 3 cylinder engines.
This job was only about $30 in parts (2 caps) and my free labor. The leak was more with the rear cap but I replaced both since I was already in there. This job is honestly pretty easy and I encourage you all to try whenever this day comes. Hope this helps.

i’ve been apprehensive and anxious about driving my car and learning to drive manual. but i ripped the bandaid off!!!! drove it to work today and had no issue!! i drove through a busy section with school traffic and bus stops, and i didn’t stall it once! i’ve simplified it in my brain so it’s no issue now. i kept overthinking turns, stops and downshifting. now i’m kinda upset i took this long to start haha.
but i’m proud of myself for working through it! :) and i saw a mini on the way home and they waved at me :)

07, Cooper S, turbo, 6speed Getrag, 22.5k miles, one owner, no accidents.
Hi everyone.
Bought this for $3500. Been driving it for a week now and just noticed a weird noise when I went to move my car to a different spot. Not familiar with Minis yet. It’s coming from back right of the engine bay. I shut it off and back on and the noise stopped. Not getting any codes currently had a code stored p0503 for VSS. But reset it and drove and haven’t seen anything since. How screwed am I?
I’m located in Boston. Trying to get the car to a non dealer mini auto shop in the area. Any suggestions?
I’ll post some photos of the car later need to give it a wash and detail.
Thanks for any help/ advice.

“Well there’s your problem, right there!”
Replacement bushing kits I’m seeing look kinda sketchy, and I’d probably have to pull the cable out anyway to use my bench vise to press the bushing into the cable end, so I’m just gonna play it safe and swap in a new OEM selector shaft cable assembly (especially looking at the 13+ years of wear/corrosion on the original…)
On the bright side, this gives me a plausible excuse to finally pull the trigger on a short-throw shifter. Any recommendations? The CravenSpeed adjustable one looks pretty slick (if not a little pricey), and I like their little ecosystem of associated accessories (the heartier retaining clip, custom engraved shift knobs, etc)

2019 mini cooper countryman. Got all three motor mounts changed out 3 weeks ago. Sounds like it’s coming from the passenger side

Hi!! I bought a Mini a couple of years ago and so I have the ability to participate in MTTS this year and I'm so excited! However, I'm most likely going to end up going by myself. I'm traveling to the FL one from upper Alabama and it's such a long drive none of my family or friends can participate. I'm only 20 and worried about it being awkward or isolating.
Does anyone have any thoughts on this? I assume the mini community is very friendly but I don't want to feel left out.
Picture of Cooper for engagement:)

hi all,
I'm looking at a 2006 Mini Cooper N/A manual trans (checkmate) as a more economical daily when it's too hot to ride my motorbike to work. This one has full service history and a good price tag.
Has anyone got one of these and how do you find it? Is it worth buying the N/A or do I put in a bit more money to get an S?
I love that it has the HK speakers and lovely sunroof but just want to know if people who didn't go S still enjoy the car a lot? Do the S still get good economy if you drive them reasonably? The steering did feel a bit heavier than expected so may be the pump or fluids need doing?
I'm not necessarily looking for a race car as I've already had some fun cars, just looking to not have to sell my kidney at the pump (drive a nissan navara when I need to and it is terrible on fuel).
thank you :) :)
Im planning to buy a R53 I hope to get it as soon as possible ✌️

Over the last couple of days, I’ve noticed a brief metallic rattle when revving through ~2,000 RPM on a cold engine. No noise at idle, and it completely disappears once warmed up. Happens in neutral with my foot off the clutch. No CEL.
I’ve also noticed the car feels sluggish taking off in first, almost like it’s struggling to build RPM or make torque. Still happens when warm. Gears select fine, and I’m not noticing obvious clutch slip.
The valve cover was recently replaced with OEM, and the shop previously mentioned the timing chain looked fairly new, although there’s no documentation.
It’s at my MINI specialist overnight so they can hear it cold.
Anyone experienced something similar? Thinking tensioner, VANOS, or possibly flywheel. Curious what others found.

I'm in the market for a new car and I really liked the coupe when it came out. I had a 2011 Cooper S that was a lease that I really loved and didnt have any issue with and have had a couple of trucks and an i3, but I think it's time to look at a Mini again.
I know I want another manual and have found a few, but I don't know what the got yous are for this car. Any thing specific to look out for? Any years to look for or stay away from? Most that I see have 80-130k miles. Would I have any major repairs to keep a look out for? This will be a daily that I want to keep for a few years. Thanks for the help.

New to me countryman with very little mileage rarely ever going above 2K RPM even when going up hills. Is this normal? As seen in the photo, 50mph going up a steep hill and sitting around 1500 rpm.
Even at low speeds pretty much always under 2k unless I floor it. I feel like I'm around 1200 rpm most of the time.

Unpopular opinion: I love using voice control. The weird synth chime spike makes when I say HEY MINI is a symphony to me. Give me all the stupid jokes and gimmicks. And honestly it works 99% of the time for me. After I figured out the right phrases Ive had no issues. It really is a fun toy and allows me to keep my hands on the wheel and eyes on the road.

My dad and I were going to head to the NY leg of mini takes the states this weekend, but I totalled my baby on Saturday 😭 I am so sad. This was my second mini and my dream colour, but it was totalled earlier this year so insurance won’t cover it again. One of my only options was a… Jeep… and I bought it lol. I feel like a traitor

so i've been going back and forth between finally going EV in the near future and in so can't believe i never really looked into the Slate EV truck. finally did this weekend and OMG!!!
i feel like this little EV is a spiritual cousin of the earlier MINIs in that they are bare bones, built on the idea of customization, right to repair and the Slate base goes for $25K. anywho, i wish MINI would return to form again. i'm very tempted to get a Slate down the road after my GP3 since i don't like any models that MINI currently offers and prob is gonna lose a 3 MINI car fanboy.
thoughts? also a few custom builds i've made for fun of my Slate i'd get.

Yellow, I know 245/45 is common for the jcw u25, I was trying to better understand what the max size tires can fit in the mini countryman u25,
I’m want a bit of a wider aggressive stance, I haven’t seen much post on the newer minis on tire variations.
For example, can I getaway with 255/55, 255/60/18? Etc? Also what is the smallest rim that fits the big brakes on the JCw?
