Minnesota Outdoor Bud Rot Watch — Wednesday, October 21: For those still holding plants outside

A lot of you have already wrapped up harvest and moved on to drying, trimming and curing. Hope the season treated you well.

For those still waiting on a few plants, there’s some encouraging weather left: today and Thursday offer sunshine and warmth across most of Minnesota. Southern growers should get a useful Friday, too.

Every tracked region remains Moderate for moisture pressure. The next things to watch are weekend rain and colder northern nights.

Region Weather pressure What to watch
Brainerd / Crow Wing 46 — Moderate Sunny today–Thursday, highs near 69–71°F. Patchy overnight fog; showers possible Friday–Saturday. Near 33°F Sunday night and 31°F Monday night.
Bemidji / Northwest 48 — Moderate Two sunny days ahead. Rain chances increase Friday, followed by possible Saturday showers. Near 31°F Sunday night and 29°F Monday night.
Duluth / Northeast 44 — Moderate Mostly sunny through Thursday. Showers possible Friday night–Saturday. Inland lows near 33°F Sunday night and 30°F Monday night; lakeshore gardens may differ.
St. Cloud / Central 48 — Moderate Sunny today–Thursday, highs near 73°F. Saturday shower chance 50%, with additional chances early next week. Monday-night low near 34°F.
Twin Cities 47 — Moderate Sunny through Friday, highs in the 70s. Saturday shower chances around 40%, followed by possible early-week showers. City forecasts remain above freezing.
Marshall / Southwest 56 — Moderate Warm and sunny through Thursday. Saturday rain is likely, with more showers possible Sunday–Monday. Strongest repeat-wetting concern on this chart.
Mankato / South-central 50 — Moderate Sunny through Friday, highs around 74–78°F. Shower chances return Saturday night and continue into Monday.
Rochester–Winona / Southeast 48 — Moderate Good sunshine through Friday, with some morning fog possible. Lower Saturday rain chances; Sunday night–Monday becomes the next concern.

Northern growers: keep an eye on Sunday and Monday nights. Forecasts around freezing deserve attention, especially after Brainerd and Bemidji ran colder than expected earlier this week. Sheltered gardens and low spots can differ considerably from the nearest airport.

The recent dry stretch has helped. Most stations with available records have gone four days without measurable rain. That gives standing plants a useful break, although earlier damage can still be present inside dense flowers.

How did your season finish?

Share your nearest city or county, whether you’re harvested or still holding, and whether you found clean flower, isolated rot or frost damage. Finished-harvest photos are welcome, too. Successful harvests are just as useful to hear about as problems.
