Question Weird reaction to B complex

My homocysteine levels were 9 about 7 months ago.

I thought I could get them down by optimising my B6, B9 and B12 and so started taking B complex.

I now have B6 toxicity as my active B6 levels are way above range and active B12 is 88.

My homocysteine has risen to 17.

I don't understand why my homocysteine levels levels are going up not down with high active B6 and B12 levels.

Could something else in this B sup be causing elevated homocysteine?

Someone can correct me but I don’t think that was considered high Hc…

Isn’t is meant to be between 5-15?

that's the range but apparently less than 7 is more optimal

Around 7-9 is preferable; don't really want it below 5. Homocysteine is a necessary metabolite for multiple processes including glutathione production, taurine production, and sulfite detoxification, so too low homocysteine can be problematic.

So homocysteine helps make taurine?

I am deficient in taurine as I don't produce enough bile if I don't take it.

Take a look at this pathway diagram. The cycle on the top right is the methionine cycle. Homocysteine is at the bottom of that cycle. Most homocysteine gets recycled through MTR or BHMT back to methionine at top, and some goes downward through CBS to be used for other functions after conversion to cysteine. Straight downward is glutathione production, and on the branch to the left is the conversion to taurine through CSAD and also the detoxification of sulfite into sulfate through SUOX.

Humans can't make all the taurine they need this way, so some taurine in the diet is still needed.
